Chase Cooper is looking for more. Between his life of playing doctor during the week and cowboy on the weekend, his love life is becoming boring. He has women, but he wants more. And now he as the bright idea of reaching out to his former high school best friend to see if there are any sparks. But when the invite to his ranch is delivered, Julia is the one who opens it. The twin. The one he had a crush on. The one he thought hated him.

Julia knows she shouldn’t go. That he never meant for her to get the invitation, but something makes her want to live a different life, even if it’s just for a few days. She never imaged a man like Chase would want a simple girl like her.

I really enjoyed this one. I liked the premise. The old friendship, former crushes and the whole misunderstanding of attraction. Toss in a hot doctor who plays cowboy. Yep. I’m in. All the way.

Another quick, contemporary romance read that was heavy on the feel good moments and light on the drama.

3.5 - ”In my world… the woman screams first.” Stars!

Slow Ride is a quick, sexy read. I flew through this one in my lunch hour, so if you are looking for a little escapism from your work day, I recommend you give this title a try.

Nothing beats a good Second-Chance romance, especially if the girl in question is your old school friends twin sister. Chase and Julia, were hot together, and this novella hit the ground running.

”I’ve waited too long for this, wanted you for too long.”

Julia is a little wary as she always believed that it was her twin sister Chase always had the hots for, but as the book progresses you come to see it was always the other way round. One misunderstanding back in school and both of them were left with the wrong impression. Chase wants Julia for the long haul, but can he convince her to stay, especially after he reveals the main reason he owns a Dude Ranch with his best friends Jag and Mac.

This is my second book by this author and once again she didn’t disappoint. Looking forward to reading more from the Playing for Keeps series, when Wild Ride releases in October 2015.

Slow Ride… does anyone else start singing that as soon as they read those words? I know I do! However, we aren’t here for the song, we are here to talk about the brand new novel Slow Ride by Cathryn Fox. This book starts a new series called Playing for Keeps, it does have an HEA and it can be read as a standalone. Although if you’re like me, you’re probably going to want to find out what happens with our main hero’s buddies. So you’ll be reading the next two. This story in particular is told from a dual third person point-of-view. I also want to note that it took me about two and a half hours to read it, probably less but I’m giving it some leeway. So it’s perfect from a commute, car trip, or plane ride where you’ve got a few hours to lose.

Jumping straight into this book, as I said, it’s short, so there might not seem like a lot of content to go over, but there is more than you’d think. Mind you, I’m going to try to keep this short because too much of it is spoilers and I don’t enjoy those.

Our heroine is a woman named Julia, she’s always felt she was in the shadow of her supermodel twin. Yeah, twin, and they look exactly alike, but she still doesn’t think she’s anywhere near as good as her sister. In high school that was an issue, the one guy she liked, well she pretty much told him he wasn’t her type. Why? Because he’s her sisters best friend! So she grows up, years pass and Julia becomes her own woman. She’s a successful lawyer and firmly on her own to feet.

Coop, our hero in Slow Ride, gets talked into inviting his high school best friend to his dude ranch by his two best friends. One night of drunkenness leads to the three of them wanting to find out if the one who got away is the one for them. Problem is, for Coop, it’s not his best friend, and it never was. He’s always had a thing for Julia, but you don’t take your best friends sister! It’s in the code! So he instantly regrets inviting Julia’s sister out.

It’s a complete shock to both Julia and Coop when she steps off the plane and they see each other. Not what they were expecting and on Julia’s part, she can’t wait to leave again. But Coop doesn’t want her going anywhere, it’s finally his chance to explore what might have been years ago. After some fast talking on Coop’s part, Julia decides to stay for the week. Hah, she needed a vacation anyway. Things transpire from there.

This book is definitely a second chance romance. I liked the characters, and it mainly focuses on these two, what they are going through and a bit of outside situations. You don’t see much in the way of co-stars, and the book is relatively fast. For me, it was a short read, as I stated above. That being the case, a very solid three stars. If it’d had a bit more content, I think I’d have enjoyed it more.

What a fun and sweet read!!! Slow Burn was just the perfect sexy and sweet read to get lost in!! If you are a fan of second chances and taking risks then this book is for you. In Slow Burn, Ms. Cathryn Fox introduces two high school "friends" get their chance at love and romance. I use the term friends loosely since technically they weren't friends since the hero, Coop was best friends with Julia's twin sister, Mari. Fast forward to ten years later, Coop gets his second chance to finally admit to Julia that she has always been the girl on his mind. Julia always assumed that Coop only liked and wanted Mari and had blinders on when it came to her but as it turns out she was wrong. When Julia arrives at Coop's ranch, she didn't expect the same feelings she had for Coop ten years ago would be just as strong. As Coop and Julia begins to spend time with each other, feelings begins to intensify and it is up to Coop to make Julia see that she is the only person he wants. Will Julia be able to let Coop into her life?

Slow Burn was the first book that I have read from this author and it surely won't be my last. I thoroughly enjoyed this quick, light, fun, and sweet read!!! This book was well-written and had lovable characters. So if you are looking for a quick romance escape then I highly recommend Slow Burn by Cathryn Fox!!! There is nothing like a hot sexy cowboy and attorney to heat up those e-readers.

Amazingly good read!!! Read this book in two days. Julia is always being mistaken for her twin sister, so when an invitation to a Dude Ranch comes it’s not clear who it’s for. She jumps on a plane anyway. Coop is happily surprised to see the right-wrong sister show up. His friends plot to bring a missed chance to the ranch for one week. Julia never planned on staying. Coop never planned on Julia. Plus he has a little family situation to deal with. Can they make it work?

Happy Book Birthday to Cathryn Fox for Slow Ride! He’s looking for love. She’s looking for trouble…

What a fun quick and easy read. I loved both main characters Coop and Julia. Coop is Julia's sister best friend and Julia has been into him for a long while but she thinks he into her sister. Which is not true. Coop has been into Julia since forever but hasn't made a move because she's his best friend sister. And there is an unspoken rule of not dating your best friend sister. Plus he also thinks he's not Julia's type because of an incident when they were younger. So with a mix up Julia instead of her twin sister ends up at Coop's ranch. And that's when the fun being! Those two had awesome chemistry and I enjoyed seeing them get together. It took Julia a little bit to realize she was what Coop wanted and not her twin sister. She's was so use to living in her sister's shadow. Not much drama in this book just some good sexy scenes and lots of sweet tender moments. 4 stars for me!

This book is a rewrite of a previously released version, Cowboy's Way, by Entangled Publishing under the short-lived FLAUNT imprint. It has been completely rewritten, re-edited and re-covered and will be released under the super sexy Brazen imprint on September 28, 2015.

If you liked the first version, you will absolutely LOVE this one! The author, Ms. Fox, a very talented, steamy writer has shown amazing grown in her craft over the past two years. When you merge this growth with the editing savvy of Candace Havens, the outcome is a definite winner.

Blurb:

He's looking for love. She's looking for trouble...

As a successful doctor and weekend cowboy, Chase Cooper enjoys a full life with plenty of female company. But lately, something hasn't felt right. He's been distracted. Antsy. Damn it, he's been lonely. With an eye on settling down with a nice girl, Coop invites his high school best friend down to his ranch to see if maybe she's the one for him...

Instead, her twin sister shows up. The one who loathes him.

Julia Blair is already halfway to Coop's ranch when she learns the invitation wasn't for her, but her vivacious twin sister. She has two choices: slink back home, or see just how far this farce will go. One glance at hotter-than-sin Coop, and she knows she's playing a dangerously hot game. Because what this cowboy wants, this cowboy gets...

Would I recommend this book to first time readers of this author? Absolutely.
Would I recommend this book to readers of the previous version? Most definitely! You won't be sorry you gave this "second chance" love story a second chance of its own.

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book was cute. I mean, cute may not be the best word to describe the hero. I just can't help that feel this way about the book. It was a cute story. Sweet. Lovely. Fun. I have read from Cathryn Fox before, so I know what her books are like. Sexy, steamy, sweet, and always romantic. Slow Ride is a sweet story about two people who have always wanted each other but thought they the other wasn't interested.

The hero is a great character, and there was no question that he and the heroine were meant to be. The heroine herself was someone that any reader would easily want to know. While this story is actually simple, and the plot has been used and recyled many times, the author still manages to capture any reader's interest throughout the entire book. It's a light, quick read, but it will surely provide hours of escapism and entertainment.

The best thing I love about Brazen books is that they are quick reads. I can easily finish them in less than a day. If I am so engrossed in the story, I can even read an entire book overnight. I believe that Slow Ride is among those Brazen books that are a cut above the rest. I would definitely recommend this, and I will be excitedly waiting for the other installments.

Loved Coop and Julia's story. Julia is the twin of the girl (Mari) who Coop was good friends with growing up. Of course everyone thought that Coop and Mari were in a relationship, but Coop really wanted Julia, not Mari. Fast forward 10 years, and the 3 co-owners of the Dude Ranch decide to invite the girls that got away for a weeks stay at the ranch to see if they could get the passion they so wanted years ago. Julia assumes Coop meant to invite her twin Mari, but it was her all along that he wanted. Great story, full of sass, steamy love scenes, and a little heartache to top it off. Well worth the read. I was given this book for an honest review.

Slow Ride is the first novella in Cathryn Fox’s Playing for Keeps novella series. The series focuses on three best friends who reminisce about the one high school girl who got away and their plan to get her back.

In high school, Chase Cooper was captain of the soccer team and Mari Blake was head cheerleader. The two were always hanging out together, sneaking into each other’s bedrooms. While everyone thought they were an item, they were merely just best friends without benefits. The actual object of Chase’s affection was Mari’s twin sister, Julia. Unfortunately, Julia was his best friend’s sister, making her off limits. They ran in different circles and the one time the two were actually alone together, Julia told Chase in no uncertain terms that he was not her type. Flash forward ten years and Chase and Julia are about to get a second chance at a love story that never was.

While I enjoyed Slow Ride, I did have some issues with it. I will not deny this was a hot little novella, but the issue of Julia not knowing how far Mari and Chase went and the extent of their relationship, but still sleeping with him bothered me. They’re sisters, that’s a line you don’t cross without getting clearance to do so first. Due to the length of the story, I wasn’t able to form a true connection with the characters. Julia and Chase seem like nice people but what really got them to this point in their lives?

Slow Ride is a happy for now story. I would have preferred to have a happy ever after ending. But, I like the premise of this series and I’m looking forward to reading Wild Ride and Sweet Ride.

Rating: 3.5

Slow Ride is the first novella in the Playing for Keeps series by bestselling author Cathryn Fox and was originally published in November 2013 under Entangled Publishing's Flaunt imprint with the title Cowboy's Way, the first book in the Weekend Cowboys series. This new edition has enhanced material but since I never read the original release, I can't compare the two and my review is exclusively based on this new release. The story intrigued me from the moment I read the blurb and this was a fast-paced tale of two people, Julia Blair and Chase Cooper, who had a thing for each other in high school but never quite believed the other saw them as anything more than the connection they represented to Julia's twin, Mari.

I was expecting the story to go one way and was pleasantly surprised with how everything played out. Coop was always this confident guy, but being around Julia made him falter, almost as if having the girl of his dreams in front of him caused his brain to short circuit and made him stumble over his words, as was the case when they were in high school and when they saw each other again on the ranch. Julia allowed herself to let loose and though she saw it as her trying to be more like her twin sister, it felt more like her embracing that side of herself that she always kept on lock-down because of being the no-nonsense person she is and trying to be her sister's opposite. I really enjoyed Slow Ride and it receives 4.5 stars, rounded off to five stars. ♥

I one-clicked this first installment of the series after reading Anna's review (@Herding Cats & Burning Soup) of #3 in the series. I liked the idea behind the series - 3 guys hatching a plan to try to catch the one that got away. Slow Ride was a fast, hot, and fun read.

Coop had a girl as one of his best friends in high school. Oh, everyone believed they were more than friends, or at least friends with benefits, but Coop actually had the hots for his best friend's twin sister. There were two problems with that. 1) being the best friend's twin, Julia was off limits. And 2) Julia claimed Coop wasn't her type. That couldn't have been further from the truth. Julia had the hots for Coop but knew she couldn't compete with her sister for his affections.

The two meet under dubious circumstances - the guys' plan - and Coop and Julia get reacquainted during a week working on a dude ranch. I enjoyed the rekindling of feelings, the closeness they develop, and their smexy times. My only complaint was that since this is a novella, they story felt rushed. And I would have liked a little more openness between them sooner.

Overall though, it was a quick, sexy read. And I'm eager for the other guys' turns with their ladies. ;)

Are you looking for a hot, sexy novella? Then look no further than Slow Ride by Cathryn Fox. When this book was originally released in 2013 under a different title, I really liked it. This version is slightly different and equally as engaging. The main characters, attorney Julia Blair and sports doctor and part-time cowboy, Chase Cooper, are likable, real and have a ton of chemistry.

Julia and Cooper have known each other since high school. In fact during that time, Cooper was best friend's with Julia's funny and outgoing twin sister Mari, even though they both secretly harbored a crush on one another. Now years later, Cooper and his two buddies are feeling nostalgic and decide to contact the women that "got away" for a chance of happiness. Cooper and his friends own and operate a dude ranch.

Julia arrives at Cooper's ranch completely bewildered. She knows that Cooper was expecting Mari, not the quiet, conservative Julia. As luck would have it, Julia is the one who Cooper really wants. Their relationship starts out very casually, but by the end of the week, they are madly in love and experiencing the best sex of their loves.

This is an extremely steamy novella. I just loved how Julia and Cooper came together, while slowly sharing their secrets with one another. If you are looking for a quick-paced, well-written, sexy novella, give this book a shout.

Chase Cooper and a couple of his other high school friends decide to contact girls from their pasts and invite them to the ranch for a week long vacation with them. Chase always had a crush on his best friend Mari's twin sister Julia, but not only was she off limits but she also said he "wasn't her type". He decides to send his invite to his best friend Mari but Julia gets it and shows up instead.

I really enjoyed this one but I wish it was just a little bit longer. This is a pretty short story. I was able to read it pretty quickly in one sitting. The story takes place in just a week's time so I think instead of skipping a few days, it would have made the story a little bit stronger to talk more about their time together even if it would have added more pages. I still enjoyed this one though, and I would definitely read the others in the series.

This was a fun and quick read and I really enjoyed it! Coop and Julia are great characters. Coop is Julia's sister best friend and Julia has been in love with him for a long while but she believes he likes her sister instead. The truth is Coop has had feelings for Julia since he can remember but he doesn't want to spoil his friendhsip with her sister. There was also a silly incident when they were teenagers and he thinks Julia doesn't like him at all. But instead of her sister, julia ends up in Coop's ranch.

The chemistry is awesome and when they are together I devoured the pages. i couldn't get enough! LOved it!

This book was a really fast past novella so there wasn't too much substance. While I enjoyed reading it, I also felt like there wasn't much to the story to make me overly invested in the characters. Chase and Julia's story is basically people with a past getting their second chance at love, If your looking for a hot and sexy short read then this book is for you. As for me I like books that make me emotionally involved so I'll have to give this a 2 out of 5 stars.

This was a very short story, but an entertaining one as well! This is my first exposure to this author, and while the story is very short, she made it feel like it was a lot longer! Coop and Julia were believable main characters, and realistic as well. Julia's jealousy of her sister Mari's popularity was a nice touch. I could see the beginnings of the other stories in the series in this book as well, but it was extremely understated. The focus was on Coop and Julia here! I got it for a steal at $0.99, but I think it is well worth double that at least!

This is a fun short read with great characters. Fox managed to not only tell a great romance, but also build well-developed and relatable characters in a short number of pages. These characters had me pulling for their HEA and wondering how they would end up getting it.
