55 books674 followersVairamuthu was born to Ramaswamythevar and Angammal of Mettur in a middle-class family. When he was four, the village gave way to Vaigai Dam and the family moved to Vadugapatti village, a farming community in Theni near Periyakulam.
The ambience of the village is said to have inspired him to write poems. According to him, Tamil and Rationalist movements of the sixties stimulated his poetic zeal. The speeches of Periyar & Anna, the writings of Karunanidhi and the works of eminent poets like Bharathi, Bharathidasan and Kannadasan and the life in the countryside shaped the young poet's thinking. At the age of fourteen, he was inspired by Thiruvalluvar's Thirukkural to write a Venba compilation of poetry, strictly adhering to the Yappu grammar rules of Tamil poetry.
He joined Pachaiyappa's college in Chennai where he was acclaimed as the best speaker and poet. While in his second year of B. A. and barely nineteen years of age, Vairamuthu published his maiden anthology Vaigarai Megangal. It was prescribed for study in Women's Christian College. Thus, he achieved the distinction of a student poet whose work was taken into the curriculum while he was still a student.
His second work, Thiruththi Yezhudhiya Theerpugal, in pudhu kavidhai (free verse) form was published in 1979. He made his film debut in the succeeding year when he set lyrics for Bharathiraja's Nizhalgal.

It's an eye opener to what this society has given to achieve the current illusionary perfection. The author has written the book full of blunt truths without straining the readers soul. Felt like breeze of nostalgia.

சின்னச் சின்ன உணர்வுகளையும் அழகாக எடுத்துக்காட்டிய கதை, பல வருடங்களாக ஏங்கியிருந்தவர்கள் சந்தித்த தருணத்திலும் அதற்குப்பின் நடந்த நிகழ்வுகளிலும் உணர்வுகளின் ஆழத்தை வெளிப்படுத்துவதில் சற்றே பின்னடைந்திருந்தது.

காதலின் லயம் என்ன தெரியுமா?
அதன் பயம்.

திரை கடல் ஓடியும் திரவியம் தேடு. Just for the love of a Girl. It was typical love story, the problem is it was aged but I can still accept it. Nowadays nobody wants to step out of there comfort zone to break their fear, not only girls ends up pick Some one as A choice even men’s do the same. one thing that they are realising or not I don’t know. But This problem you will face for surely.(I swear they never express in-front of anyone) When they were alone they used to be fine. But when they are with there choice, they feels lonely and alone. You might thing am wrong. I gained this experience from the lady’s and gentlemen’s of my life Mom/dad, aunty/uncle, sisters/brothers, friends. You can’t find this loneliness in lovers (pure). Look closely to your family how many thing that they have done “together” you will find hardly something, they never work together, either men make choice of some or woman. then they ask for a approval to proceed. we’re else you can’t find it in love coz it works simply together.

Love is simple. If we expect to carve it with our family or society then it’s complicated. Only one question I will ask IF! (Not happening anyway) if someone fall in love with me. “What makes you fall in love with me?” If the answer is simple it lead you together till the end. if he or she want to split her/him the answer remind them why not, coz it unique & phenomenal she/he found for him/her that makes them together. “One day she grab my shirt and say I fell in love for your eyes” whoa! Wait man it’s called day dreaming! நெல்லிக்காயைச் சுவைத்துக் கொண்டே வந்தால் அதன்
துவர்ப்புக்குக் கீழே எங்கோ ஒரு சொட்டு இனிப்பு ஒட்டியிருக்
குமே அதுதான் காதல்.

கதையின் பெயர்: காவி நிறத்தில் ஒரு காதல்

பல வருடங்களாக காட்டிற்குள் அடைந்து கிடக்கும் மனிதன் ஒருவன், வெளியுலகை நோக்கி வரும் போது ஏற்படும் நிகழ்வுகள் தான் இக் கதையின் சாராம்சம். பல ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன் திருமணம் செய்ய முடியாமல் போன தன் காதலியை பார்க்க வரும் காதலனின் பயணம் இது.
வெளியுலகத் தொடர்பு அற்றுப் போனதில், நாட்டில் ஏற்பட்ட மாற்றங்கள் அவனுக்கு வியப்பை அளிக்கிறது .அதேசமயம் அவனை மற்றவர்கள் பார்க்கும் போது பைத்தியக்காரனாக பார்க்கிறார்கள்.
தன் காதலியைத் தேடி ஊர் ஊராக அலைந்து, அதனால் பலதரப்பட்ட மனிதர்களை சந்திக்கிறான் அவன். அவள் பட்ட துயரங்களை எல்லாம் அவள் சென்ற இடத்திற்கே சென்று உணர்கிறான்.
சங்க கால பெண் போல் சித்தரிக்கப்படும் அப்பெண், பின்னாளில் சந்தர்ப்ப சூழ்நிலைகளால் எவ்வாறு ஒரு போராளியாக மாறுகிறாள் என்பதை அழகாகக் கூறுகிறார் ஆசிரியர்.
சாதாரண பெண்கள் மட்டுமில்லை தீவிரவாதியே ஆனாலும் அவளை சுற்றிலும் என்னாலும் ஆபத்து சூழ்ந்து இருக்கிறது என்பதை அழகாக இக்கதை மூலம் உணரலாம்.
பல இன்னல்கள் கடந்து காதலியை அவன் சந்திக்கும் வேளையில், அவளிடம் தன்னைப் பற்றி கூற இயலாமல் தவிக்கும் நிலை கண்ணீரில் ஆழ்த்துகிறது.
இவ்வுலகில் சிக்கி வாழ்வதற்கு காட்டிற்குள் தனியாகவே வாழ்ந்து விடலாம் என்று வாசகர்களுக்கு தோணலாம். எதிர்பாராத திருப்பங்களுடன் நிகழ்ச்சியான முடிவுடன் அமைந்துள்ளது இக்கதை. படிப்பவர் அனைவரும் இறுதியில் கண் கலங்குவது திண்ணம்.

"காவி நிறத்தில் ஒரு காதல்" நாவலின் விமர்சனத்தின்
முன்குறிப்பு: ஆசிரியர் மீதான குற்றச்சாட்டுகள் குறித்து அடுத்த பகுதியில் விவாதிப்போம்
இந்தப் பகுதியில், நாவலின் கதை மற்றும் அதன் உள்ளடக்கம் பற்றி மட்டும் பேசுவோம்.
இந்த நாவல், இளங்கோ என்ற பெயர்கொண்ட ஒரு சாமியாரின் கதையைச் சொல்கிறது. அவர் தன் இளமைக் கால காதலியான மதுபாலாவைத் தேடி அலைகிறார். மதுபாலா, பூலான்தேவிபோல் சமூக அநீதிக்கு எதிராகப் போராடும் ஒரு போராளியாக மாறியிருக்கிறார். இந்தத் தேடல், ஒரு பரபரப்பான சினிமா போன்ற காதல் மறுமலர்ச்சியாக முடிவடைகிறது.
இந்த கதைக்களம்தான் நாவலின் முக்கிய அங்கம்.
நாவலின் இன்னொரு முக்கிய அம்சம், 90களின் ஆரம்பத்திலேயே நகர்ப்புறமயமாக்கல் (urbanization) குறித்த பிரச்சனைகளை ஆழமாகப் பேசியதுதான். நகரங்களை நோக்கி மக்கள் திரள்வது, அதனால் ஏற்படும் சமூகப் பொருளாதாரப் பிரச்சனைகள், தனி மனிதர்களின் மனப் போராட்டங்கள் போன்றவற்றை நாவல் படம்பிடித்துக்கிறது.
PS. Sai Pallavi's 'Virata Parvam' has also very similar storyline except genders reversed!

I don't like viramuthu for his scandals but i have read this in raani weekly when it came now once again read it after so many years, this novel is one of the good but how he got himself in the scandals and bootlicking the dmk head is embarrassing for his stature.

Not the best of Vairamuthu. Still, it makes an interesting read. His description of various places is very opt.

A sweet love journey with more twists with predictable end but the female character Madhubala it's just awesome. What a strong lady and a boldness in her character. The conversation between the both pivotal characters in 1st & 2nd half is beautiful. Edhugai Moonai qustions about life and love was brilliant.
