Raised beneath the big Montana sky, Matt Malloy was never meant to be a jet-setting businessman. But he'll do anything to protect the family ranch he shares with his brothers. Coming home after a two-week trip to Italy, Matt wants nothing more than to shed his suit and tie for a well-worn pair of jeans and ride his horse up to the cabin for some alone time. The last thing he needs is a big-city lawyer invading his privacy-even if she is the most beautiful woman he's ever seen . . .
Vanessa Kettering has devoted her life to her work. As a passionate animal rights defender, she doesn't have room for anything else. But from the moment she meets Matt, she's taken with this rugged cowboy's lazy smile and tender touch. When a raging storm traps them inside his cabin for the night, one steamy kiss leads to another, sweeping them away with a force that's as wild and untamed as the land he loves. But when the morning light comes, will she lose her heart?
New York Times bestselling author R.C. Ryan has written more than ninety fiction novels, both contemporary and historical. Quite an accomplishment for someone who, after her fifth child started school, gave herself the gift of an hour a day to follow her dream to become a writer.
The Lost, an anthology of stories by J.D. Robb, Mary Blayney, Patricia Gaffney, and R.C. Ryan writing as Ruth Ryan Langan was published in Fall 2009. Ms. Ryan’s story, “The Legacy,” is an exciting tale of intrigue and other-worldly adventure.
In a career spanning more than twenty years, Ms. Ryan has given dozens of radio, television, and print interviews across the country and Canada, and has been quoted in such diverse publications as the Wall Street Journal and Cosmopolitan. She has also appeared on CNN News, as well as Good Morning America.
I'm throwing in the towel around 45% mostly out of indifference. The characters are Teflon People. Bad stuff has happened to them but nothing seems to stick and they all come off as rather bland. The heroine reads naive at times and for a lawyer working on animal rights issues seems pretty clueless (especially about hunting regulations). The conflict, such as it is, revolves around her father, a district attorney, prosecuting a Big Bad who, in turn, threatens the heroine. But it takes forever for that conflict to even show up, and now at nearly 50% nothing has happened other than the hero spotting a strange car near the family ranch.
It's a romance with a big family dynamic, lots of relatives and colorful secondary characters. If you're a fan of small town romances you may dig this. It's not bad, I just was fluctuating between bored and uninterested. Your mileage may vary.
There's not much that makes me happier than cracking open a new cowboy book—with the exception of closing one and finding myself completely satisfied with what I've read. And that's what happened with Matt, the first book in R.C. Ryan’s new series.
I've read one other series by this author—the Cooper Creek Cowboys series—and enjoyed it immensely, despite some misgivings about the repetitious use of a conflict/drama trope. And although I could say possibly have said something similar here, Matt’s climax read differently, felt more tense, and I ultimately found myself very pleased with the round-up.
And it all had to do with the characters.
I really enjoyed both Matt and Vanessa. Matt for his family-orientated strength and resilience, and Vanessa for being brave and not relying on a knight in shining armor. They were likeable, sturdy characters, and their slow-burn romance was a real pleasure to read. Even through the edge of-your-seat moments, I found myself smiling and swooning over this pairing—a coupling that may have been quick in terms of time-frame, but that never felt rushed or contrived.
Plus, happily, there's a slew of secondary characters that make each moment that much more engaging. Gram Gracie—a fierce and independent woman who loves and is loved greatly by Frankie. Matt’s younger brothers, Luke and Reed, whose banter was amusing and whet my appetite for more. The Great One, with possibly the best nickname of all time. And Colin, who I truly hope we will see in his own story…perhaps with a certain new doctor?!
With all of these wonderful characters, and a heaping of sexy and suspenseful story, this book was much more than I expected. From Matt and Nessa’s first meeting to their sweet (if shorter than I might have liked) ending, past the drama and pain, Matt proved to be an excellent foundation for a new series of hot cowboy books that I can't wait to crack open. Like I said, there's not much that makes me happier than that. ~ Beth, 4.5 stars

Matt Malloy was raised on the family ranch in Montana. As Matt’s taken on the majority of the roles that require business management for the ranch, he finds himself traveling quite a bit and can't help but want to enjoy some solitude out in one of the many rustic cabins on their land. Peace and quiet until one gorgeous, animal rights lawyer shows up.
Vanessa Kettering has devoted herself to her passionate defense of wild animals, leaving little time for a social life. With an opportunity to interview Matt’s Grandmother, Vanessa ends up trapped by a raging storm with Matt in the cabin. Vanessa wasn't planning to find love out on the wild frontier, but when the storm is over, will the morning light reveal love budding on the horizon or heartbreak waiting to happen?
Who doesn't love a cowboy with a heart of gold who will do anything to protect his family and their ranch? I sure do! Add in the love of a wonderful woman, amazing, funny supportive friends and family, a bit of intrigue and peril and you have a winner in my book! I love the protective nature of Matt, his brothers, uncle, grandparents, and the rest of the ranch hands. I can't wait for the rest of their stories—I'm hoping for Colin and Anita, but I'll settle for Luke! ~ Missy, 4.5 stars
You know that moment when you finally pick up a book by that author who’s covers regularly catch your eye and then kick yourself, repeatedly, for not doing it sooner? For me, that was this novel. I read this book from cover to cover in a single sitting, completely riveted throughout.
Ryan writes so naturally. Everything comes to life in a way that allowed me to walk through this fantastically picturesque setting and become a part of the tale. The story was both suspenseful and full of romance. The characters were vividly real and completely endearing. I love how we got to know all of the characters well while the story of the main characters shone through strong.
This is one novel that is a must read for all those who enjoy a bit of suspense with their romance, for those who enjoy romance so deep and sizzling that it makes your toes curl, and for those who love a good cowboy to drool over.

When I started reading Matt by R. C. Ryan, I expected the main female character, Vanessa Kettering, to be the typical city girl thrown into country life. To my pleasant surprise, that wasn’t the case. When she is forced to spend a little more time than she expected with Matt Malloy and his family at their ranch in Montana, things getting pretty interesting. We not only see that she isn’t your typical city girl that is usually portrayed in books like Matt, but we also get a bit of suspense thrown into the mix after her life is threatened.
I liked the main character, although I can’t say that I really had a connection with them. Vanessa and Matt are mature and likable. I didn’t find anything extremely interesting about either of them. However, Matt’s two younger brothers are my absolute favorite. They were both hilarious. All of the characters were very well developed and the story line was good.
Although I wasn’t super impressed with Matt, the first book in The Malloys of Montana, I am pretty interested in reading the next books in the series because I loved the brothers and feel like they have great stories ahead of them. Matt will be enjoyed by many readers; it just wasn’t my cup of tea. I’m glad I had the chance to read this book because I love reading from new-to-me authors.

I really enjoyed this read - and it definitely holds great promise for the new series too. The vast Montana scenery and lifestyle adds an element of both wildness, but also freedom to the setting - and makes the plot twists achievable.
The Malloys are people who fall in love almost instantly when they find the right person - yet there are four bachelor men currently unattached. Matt is the first one to fall, and we follow his progress with both drama attached, but also with some really quiet, reflective sharing moments. I liked the family times, and the cook's story being shared - his amazing skills as a chef made me hungry. There were a few places where I wasn't convinced that the complexity of the plot was necessary, as the love story was doing fine on its own - but it was a good read, and I look forward to reading Luke's story, which is previewed at the end of the book.
I won this book from goodreads and I just loved it. I have read some of this authors previous books and liked them so much. This book follows the Mallory family with the emphasis on the three grandsons of the patriach Frank Mallory, they own one of the most sucessful ranches in Montanna, it is there that Matt he oldest meets big city animal rights lawyer Vanessa. Vanessa gets shown around by Matt and the two of them are instantly attracted to each other. It isn't until Vanessea's father who is the top DA for cook county chicago is trhing a very important case and her life is threatened to intimadiate him from persuring the case that Matt and Vanessa allow themselves to explore their feeli gs for each other. Of course Vanessa is taken and Matt and his family go to great lengths to get her back. These books paint such a vivid picture of the land, family and animals tha t are written down that it makes me want to up and move to a ranch. The sense of family and the romance ia just truly exceptional.
I love a good cowboy romance. So when I saw this book at a local Friends of the Library sale, I decided to pick it up and give this 'new to me' author a try. I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Sure, it was a pretty slow burn, but I loved all the characters and the suspense.
Matt Malloy is kind of the 'man in charge' of the Malloy ranch. And it's a big ranch he's responsible for. Not to mention his whole family lives on said ranch (his grandparents, his great-granddad, his uncle and 2 brothers). It's certainly a big family that is so loving and enjoyable to read about. Matt is out in his isolated shack when he agrees to meet with the animal rights lawyer who has just flown in from Chicago to meet with his Gram Gracie. He's expecting some old man, but he's met with a beautiful young woman instead, Vanessa (Nessa). They hit it off and end up getting stuck in the cabin for a while due to a storm.
Fast forward and Nessa learns she can't fly back to Chicago after all since there's some bad men after her to get back at her Chicago D.A. dad who is prosecuting their (mafia?) boss. So she agrees to hide out at the Malloy ranch and let things settle down before returning to Chicago.
Matt & Nessa keep their distance for a while and it's nothing more than stolen moments and kisses for a lot of the book. But when they do finally get the chance to be alone, it's hot! I do like that they took the chance to get to know one another. And their 'love' happens over the period of a few days I think, which seems a bit far-fetched. But I guess when you're spending nearly 24 hours together, it could happen.
I loved how Nessa embraced her time with Gram Gracie. She didn't flake out over being in the wilderness, but showed that she was tough under those prim suits. And then when things get really bad in the end of the book, she shows just how much grit she has to keep fighting for her life and those she loves.
Matt was definitely a fierce protector. Things didn't go as planned for a while there, but he kept coming back like a phoenix from the ashes. I admired him an awful lot and thought he was a well-rounded character. He wasn't perfect, but he left a lasting impression with me.
The ending is cute and I can't wait for more from the Malloy family.

Review:
A delightful contemporary romance which kept this reader engaged throughout. Even to the point of forgoing sleep…it was that engaging. I can hardly wait for this series to continue!
The tale begins in the prologue where we learn of an accident one dark icy winter evening that killed twelve-year-old Matthew Malloy’s parents (Patrick Malloy and Bernadette). From that moment on, Matthew (Matt) along with his two siblings (Reed and Luke), grandparents (Francis Xavier Malloy and Grace Anne LaRou – daughter of Nelson LaRou), and Uncle Colin’s life was permanently changed. Matt was no longer the wild child around town – and as an adult he has assumed the role of leader to his two younger brothers as well as running the family business – the ranch.
He trained himself to be disciplined and deliberate, steering the family business in a safe direction, always weighing both sides of an issue before making a decision that he knew would affect his entire family.
What I wouldn’t give for a ranch cook like Yancy Martin or at the very least, his recipes. Yancy has been on the ranch for MANY years (35 in fact), having come to the ranch when he was but a wee lad (I will leave that for you to read about – but suffice it to say – it broke my heart a little bit). Needless to say, he is a valued member of the Malloy family.
Grace (affectionately known as Gram Gracie) is the matriarch of the family and her passion is the wild mustang. She occasionally roams the property in search of the elusive white mustang stallion. During these pursuits, she photographs/films the lives of the mustangs (including births).
Nelson LaRou is known as Great One (great-grandfather was just too long so it was shortened to Great One). He is portrayed as the commanding director of Hollywood (which he was until his retirement) and a bit gruff. However, you definitely get the sense that he loves his three great grandsons (as well as his daughter of course).
Vanessa (Nessa) Kettering, an activist and lawyer from a wildlife federation, has come to the ranch to interview Gracie. As Gracie is unavailable, Matt is charged with handling the interview. It is certainly evident from their first meeting that there is chemistry…. the sparks were flying. Vanessa’s father (Elliott Kettering) is a high powered attorney with a high profile case against DePietro. While Vanessa is in Montana, at the conclusion of the current trial, Elliott received a threat stating:
If his office continued its prosecutions of this case, he would lose his most precious possession.
Needless to say, the Malloy family steps-up and offers Nessa a safe place to stay until a verdict is reached and DePietro is convicted and put away. This certainly sets the stage for more interaction between Matt and Nessa. At one point in time Nessa wondered and ruminated:
She was attracted to him. She trusted him. And she was enchanted by his family. Plus, because of him, she was living her dream. But that didn’t add up to love. Did it? Hadn’t her father once joked that every young woman he knew fell in love with the idea of love at least once in her life before finding the real thing?
Let us not forget the sexy and hot parts….and there were a few. Never let it be said that cowboys do not have manners:
“You have the most amazing body.”
“Why, thank you for noticing, ma’am. It’s all yours. Do with me what you want.”
She gave a tortured laugh. “That’s really generous of you.”
“Anything for my lady.” He shucked his boots and jeans and dragged her close, pressing hot, wet kisses to the sensitive hollow between her neck and shoulder….
The whole storyline following the conclusion of the trial while deliberations were occurring was very intense. This portion of the story was a page turner for sure. Additionally, I really enjoyed the storyline where Gracie and Nessa go off in search of Mustangs. I loved their interactions, especially since Nessa is in definite need of female parental figures in her life. They just meshed in all the best ways.
The road to happily ever after in this story was definitely thrilling, heart stopping, intense, sexy and at times, down right fun. Thank you, R.C. Ryan, for a grand introduction to your writing. I will wait with anticipation for the next in the Malloys of Montana series.

MATT is R.C.Ryan’s book One of the Malloys Of Montana series. Matt Malloy and Vanessa Kettering are thrown together in a sizzling romance with danger lurking in the beautiful wilds of Montana. R.C. Ryan is brilliant in describing the characteristic of a small-town romance, family, and wild mustangs. MATT is good, wholesome story about a cowboy falling in love with a city slicker and risking his life to save her.
This is the first book I have read by this author and I enjoyed it very much. It was about a young business woman from D.C. who came to Montana to interview Grave Malloy about her photographs of the wild mustangs running the hills of Montana. Since Grace was out in the wild, she asked her grandson Matt to meet with her and the story begins here and it really is great.
I enjoyed this book about Matt and Vanessa. Vanessa was a big time lawyer who came to the ranch in Montana to speak to Matt's great grandmother who is a wildlife photographer. Before she could leave to come back, her father notified her their was a death threat to her life due to a case he was working as a DA. This story had a beautiful setting and was well written with a good story.
plot: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ it was incredibly cheesy, predictable & hallmark worthy, but I love a good love story and at least their love was pure
writing: 1⭐️
unfortunately the writing got more and more repetitive every time I turned the page and it was like all the sentences from Vanessa’s mentality mirrored Matt’s exactly.
I adore books and series with cowboys and ranch settings, so I'm thrilled to be catching The Malloys of Montana Series at its beginning. Matt is a great series opener, taking the time to introduce the large and loving Malloy family while also providing a sweet, suspenseful love story.
Matt Malloy is the oldest of the Malloy brothers, of the famous Malloy ranchers in Glacier Ridge, Montana. His parents died when he was just twelve, leaving Matt to take on a role-model position among his brothers, and his grandparents and uncle helped raise them. Matt is extremely loyal to both his family and to their land, and their family is highly respected by pretty much everyone they've come in contact with and dealt with, even on an international basis. One day after arriving home from a trip away for the family business, Matt agrees to an interview with an animal rights attorney in place of his grandmother to discuss wildlife issues for an animal rights group out of Washington DC. Matt is not expecting a female attorney, and certainly not one that is as sure of herself as Vanessa Kettering.
The meeting is to be conducted off-site from the main house, near a cabin in the wilderness part of the ranch. When a storm comes and leaves the two stranded and unreachable by vehicle or plane, they're stuck together for a while, which means that they have a chance to get to know one another beyond animal rights. When the storm is over and Vanessa is ready to return home, she learns some bad news: her father, a prominent Chicago criminal attorney, has received a threat on her life from one of the criminals that he is prosecuting, and Vanessa is in need of a safe house until her safety is secured. The Malloy's make an offer for her to stay at their ranch because it is more comfortable and the brothers know they can provide security for her on their remote land. Vanessa accepts the offer since staying will enable her to be able to study the wild animals that she represents in her line of work (plus she can see more of the handsome Matt Malloy). She accepts their offer, never expecting to fall in love with Matt, and also fall hard for the family and for the land.
*************************************
Matt and Vanessa had a great attraction right away and their romance developed slowly; I liked this because it felt authentic to Matt's slow and steady cowboy temperament and also to the ranch lifestyle. Vanessa fell for Matt's family almost as hard as she fell for Matt, and I can understand why - they're great. She fit in well there at the ranch.
This secondary cast is great. Matt's brothers, Luke and Reed, are funny, loyal, and hard-working, and I'm eager to read their own stories as they are awarded books of their own in this series. Matt's grandparents, Gram Gracie and Frankie, were so much fun: Gracie is the only woman on the ranch, so she's fierce, independent, and well-respected. She can hold her own in the hills among the animals. Gracie studies the wild horses and has built a respected name for herself in the animal world. I think that she is one of my favorite characters in this book. She was a good support for Vanessa, particularly since Vanessa lived with only her father back in Chicago. Yancy, the family's resident chef, was also a lot of fun.
I was surprised at how suspenseful this book was - I don't often read romantic suspense and may not have picked this one up had I known it was categorized as suspenseful - if this were the case, I would have missed out on something good. It wasn't crazy-suspenseful or nail-biting, but Vanessa is hiding out from criminals that have threatened her life, so there are some scenes (particularly toward the end) that caused me to turn off my audiobook and read in print because I can read quicker that way - I had to KNOW what was going to happen and what was coming next and the audiobook was slowing me down in the suspenseful parts.
I'm excited about this new series. Matt is not a bossy alpha male (he's super gentlemanly and respectful, like the rest of the Malloy family) and this is not an over-the-top too-sexy, makes-you-blush read. This is a rugged, works-outside-on-the-land cowboy romance with plenty of swoony scenes and lots of kisses and doggone it, I'm ready for the next book RIGHT NOW. I recommend Matt by R.C. Ryan for fans of contemporary romance stories, particularly cowboy romances, ranch settings, and readers that enjoy great family relationships.
Audiobook Notes: The audiobook format of Matt by R.C. Ryan is published by Hachette Audio and is 9 hours and 33 minutes, Unabridged. It is narrated by Loretta Rawlins who is new to me as a narrator. I enjoyed listening to Ms. Rawlins bring this story to life, particularly when there was talk of riding horses into the wilderness or in the hills, and I think she did a great job voicing Vanessa Kettering and Gram Gracie. If I could change anything about this book, I almost think that I would wish for alternating POV's with a male narrator voicing Matt Malloy's parts since the book is named for the male lead BUT Ms. Rawlins did a nice job and I would certainly recommend this audiobook to fans of listening.
I read book 3, Reed, first. I am glad I went back and started at the beginning of this series. I really like Matt and Vanessa. Both were strong and caring people. I felt the whole story had a realistic feel. I love this family and enjoy the banter and love that is shared by everyone.
Great book so happy that it’s a series. Storyline was wonderful with intrigue and romance. Characters were wonderful, funny, and interesting. Thanks for the great book can’t wait to start the next one.
Holy shit this book was amazing! I fell in love with all the characters. Great story, lots of suspense, romance, and kindness from a big loving family. I wish the end would have gone on a bit longer into their story.

I LOVED how it was a suspense thriller disguised as a cowboy romance. It was a super enjoyable read. The family dynamic was so much fun and not something you see very often. I liked how the characters were pretty fleshed out, they weren't just cardboard cut outs which was nice.
My biggest issue was the dialogue. The dialogue was super stiff and it felt like the author was trying to write dialogue for a Victorian era historical fiction rather than a modern day cowboy romance. It really pulled me out of the story quite a bit, especially near the end, it felt so unrealistic. If the dialogue had been more natural, it would have brought this story leaps and bounds where it already stands.
Reviewed @ Confessions From Romaholics Review copy kindly provided by publisher in exchange for a honest review I like to mix it up once In a well and delve into sub genres/genres that I wouldn’t usually stray into with my reading. I love my cowboys don’t get me wrong, but I never seemed to find a book that screams to me . Until I discover Ryan by chance and utterly enjoyed reading my first book by this author
The Mallory’s of Montana are close knight family that have been through lot and as a result become stronger and wiser. Family comes first for this family and they do anything to help one another. Matt is the oldest of the brothers and would do anything to help his family. So when he gets asked to show a lawyer for his Gram Gracie. He recently agrees as it for family reasons and instead opens a can of worms. Vanessa Kettering is the last person he expects to come out and invade his privacy. She everything not he expected in a good way and she knows how to handle herself. Sparks flaw quickly but these two are ones who aren’t going to rush things. They are more to sit back and see where things are heading and that what I loved about this novel.
Ryan let things flow naturally and made this relationship seemed plausible give the actual timeframe and allowed to discover the world that she create and the endearing characters that only enhance the book.
Like Gram Gracie, the matriarch of the family who step and make sure her boys keep in line. A fierce independent woman married to Frankie who take no nonsense from her father The Great One to Luke and Reed the youngest members of the family. All had a role in this story and it became a testament of the family and showed why Matt was the man he was . It hard not to see why and this why this book isn’t just an entertaining read
It is a heart-warming story that happens to have a sexy romance and suspenseful story. Readers will easily fall in love with Matt and Nessa as they discover their story and watch true unfaltering love unfolds. With a good slow burn romance that keeps on giving. As their relationship only grew as they were thrown into the deep dealing with the developments that kept on the edge of our seats
Ryan has kicked off with a home run with the first in her new series and starts of her new series strongly with a story that you won’t forget in a hurry.
Matt Malloy has just spent two weeks abroad traveling and working and is looking forward to returning to his roots, where he belongs and is most comfortable... he has a log cabin calling his name and he can't wait to get to it, and enjoy the peace and tranquility that only ranch life can provide. But his plan to submerse himself into nature just hit a little snag... a snag in the form of a beautiful city girl in dire need of help. The last thing Matt wants to do is get tangled up in her problems, but when your Gram issues an order you hop to, and do as she says...
Vanessa Kettering knows she is completely out of her element the minute she arrives in Montana, but she knows in order to accomplish what she has set out to do she must embrace it to the best of her abilities. Coming the the Malloy ranch and seeking their help in her mission to save the wildlife she so desperately wants to protect is her sole focus...that is until she set her sights on the rugged and oh so sexy cowboy sent to meet with her!!
After reading the synopsis for this story I instantly knew it was a story I HAD to read, the mere mention of Matt Malloy and I was intrigued and dying to get better acquainted with him. A couple pages into his story and the man had my undivided attention and had me on mission to discover what I hoped to be was his well deserved happily ever after, and I am happy to report I found that and SO much more! (Most importantly more Malloy Men to acquaint myself with!!) It has been a while since I have read a story from this author, and after a few pages into it, I was quickly reminded why I enjoy her books so much, her well crafted, and oh so dreamy, cowboys always find a into your heart and leave you fully satisfied!!
If you like small town western romance stories, with a handsome cowboy at the helm than look no further, Ms. Ryan's cowboys are just what you need, they are sure to leave with a happy heart and a smile on your face!!

She is ready to go back home and she get a phone call that will change her life but she never expected this family to step in and help her. But will they be able to help her and will she be able to keep her heart in tact and stay alive? I really had fun reading this book it starts off perfect then its like a roller coaster and your sitting in the back you can't see whats coming but you know its going to be good when it happens. The book is a real page turner and has you on the edge of your seat the whole time. I loved how even though there seemed to be a handful of character is flowed perfect and it was not hard to keep up. You truly end up falling for each one and walking away feeling like you just met up with friends. I can wait to read more from this bunch and find out what other fun adventures they will take you one. I am really pulling for all of them and the Love they share is just genuine. I will say there was one small part in the book that just didn't seem to fit and that the author may have been trying to hard, but it was such a small part it doesn't take away from the book. IF you are looking for a fun adventure to take you place this book doesn't disappoint. *Some strong language

It’s always interesting when an author puts a city character with a country character and author R.C. Ryan knows how to blend the combination into a tantalizing tale. Narrator Loretta Rawlins is spot-on in her interruption of the characters along with their actions and emotions. Her mannerisms and accents enhances this delightful story. Matt Malloy loves life on his family’s Montana ranch. He tends to try to fix the family’s problems since the death of both of his parents. But he’s unprepared for a big city lawyer visiting to talk with his grandmother about animal rights. Vanessa Kettering is a dedicated animal rights defender that stays busy between Chicago and Washington D.C. Never one to back down from anything, Vanessa finds more than she bargained for when she winds up having to talk to the grandson of the woman she was hoping to interview. Between an angry storm and death threats from criminals her father is working to put away, Vanessa finds there’s more to the wide open country of Montana than she ever imaged. A sweet love story, MATT is also about family loyalty, a cross knit small community, and finding one’s place in the world. The characters are well-developed and likable. The bantering among family members brings out the realism of the story. Through the author’s rich descriptions, the Montana landscape comes alive on the page and through the narration. The small town atmosphere is genuine and heartwarming, while the family bond among the Malloys and the Ketterins is refreshing. MATT is a delightful tale of suspense with a touch of romance and a nice helping of good old fashion western flare. A fun start to an intriguing new series. I loved this story so much I want to move to a ranch in Montana! Matt has taken on being the mom and dad to his brothers after his parents died young in an car crash. He and his brothers and his grandparents, great grandfather, Yancy the cook and the ranch hand Burke all live on this Montana ranch which is so big you could get lost for weeks. Matt has just gotten back from Italy where he was selling the beef that the ranch produces when his Grandma Grace calls to ask him to take an interview with a lawyer from Chicago about wildlife preservation. He figures I am already at my cabin I will have Burke bring the guy here spend an hour and I can go back to my solitude, but what Burke brings is not a guy but a beautiful feisty woman named Vanessa. Well they don't really see eye to eye but a storm shows up and she is stuck there for the night. During that time Matt is able to explain some of the land and animals to her so when they get back to the ranch she can go home with a better sense of things. Well a knock on the door ends that as the sheriff explains that he has come to take Vanessa to a safe house until her fathers trial is over as the criminal has threatened to do harm to Vanessa if he is found guilty. Matt and his family insists that she will be safer hidden up on this ranch than a safe house and Vanessa agrees. As Vanessa and Matt grow closer so does someone else, can Vanessa's dad get a conviction and can Matt and his family keep her safe? This story shows how strong and determined people can be and also what a loving family should be like. The story can be read as a standalone but I can't wait to read what will happen in the next story about Luke. Reviewed on Behalf of Once upon an Alpha
In this brand new series by RC Ryan we get to meet the Malloy family. The cast of characters is pretty big in size and mostly male. Matt Malloy is the oldest of three brothers. When his parents died in a car accident he changed from a carefree 12 year old boy to a responsible young man who looks out for his younger brothers and eventually the entire ranch. When his grandmother asks him to meet a lawyer to discuss the wild horse's on their ranch he of course accepts. Anything for his family. Vanessa Kettering might be a city lawyer but she doesn't have a city attitude. Her love of animals leads her into a career defending them and the Malloys. I loved the characters in this series. Of course you just get bits and pieces of the secondary characters in this book so there is much to look forward to in future books. Matt is this bigger than life cowboys who took his family tragedy and instead of letting it be a negative influence on his life he made sure he was there for his family. He looked out for his brothers and did the best he could for his families ranch. There doesn't seem to be anything he can't do. Then Vanessa "Nessa" comes into his life and turns his life upside down. When her life is placed in danger he and his family step of to protect her. Loved this book. It's fast paced and full of sexy cowboys and the banter between the family is fun to watch. There is fun and drama and definitely some suspense. Exciting to the very last page.
Matt and Vanessa's story is the first in a new series of cowboy/Montana men books by the author RC Ryan. This is also the first story I have ever read by this author so I was really excited going into it as I love discovering new authors. (I also LOVE cowboys).
The story was a little typical - handsome country boy meets beautiful city girl and they have instant attraction to each other. The build up to the actual relationship part was a little bit slower than what I usually like and the plot felt just a bit... pushed? Forced? Im not sure what the word is im wanting to use here. I will stop short at saying contrived because I dont feel that strongly about it. But I will say that im a fairly slow reader and I would occasionally get bogged down in the wordiness of it all. There seemed to be a whole lot of "stuff" going on that didnt necessarily need to be included (my opinion only). The story was good, as was the plot line. It could have stood on its own without all the extras.
I did really enjoy the characters though. Both the main ones - Matt and Vanessa, and the secondary characters, who I hope to see a lot more of in the sequels. The author brought out several of their personalities and I think it will be interesting to see their stories develop in the series.
I give Matt 3.5*** WickedGoodStars and will look for the sequel (which im fairly certain is Luke) coming soon!

Matt Malloy is one of those heroes that I just immediately connected with and loved. He loves his family, he loves his ranch, and he loves spending time in the wild outdoors to reconnect with his roots. And that’s exactly what he does when he gets back from his nearly three week business trip overseas. But he wasn’t counting on having company, and especially not a city girl like Vanessa Kettering.
I thoroughly enjoyed MATT. Not only was the book well-written, but both characters were compelling and engaging, and the storyline entertaining and exciting. I loved getting to know Matt and Nessa, and seeing how much they grew and changed throughout the story. They had excellent chemistry between them and the author did a fabulous job of showcasing that chemistry in the very best of ways.
MATT is a breathtaking and heartwarming contemporary romance that I not only adored but one hundred percent loved. It captured my attention from the first word and kept me reading until I reached the last word. It was a satisfying romance with a mega-hot, mega-brave cowboy hero and an equally strong, equally brave heroine.
I loved every single word of this book and cannot recommend it highly enough to anyone who loves an outstanding, uplifting western romance read.
