Ink To Bear

Rate this book
Big and built, Gus is one werebear most other shifters and hybrids steer clear of; unless he’s got the ink out. Then, they, along with humans, line up for the chance to see him work and maybe, just maybe, get a little ink of their own. He’s made a name for himself as a traveling tattoo artist, but he’s a loner and his only rule is to never stay any place long enough to learn names.

But then, he sees her...

Bex is alone now. No family since her mother passed. Few people she would call friend. And she’s just sold the last remaining link to her childhood. None of it seems real and yet, it’s all too much reality for her. She wants to start her new life and she wants out of her small hometown.

Her way out comes in the form of a broad shouldered, tattooed biker, offering take her anywhere she wants to go, even if it means going over the infamous Tail of the Dragon mountain pass and through territory that isn’t always friendly to his kind.

She’s never been on a motorcycle. She’s never been this close to a shifter. She’s never done anything reckless. Can she trust him to keep her safe? More importantly, can she trust herself and her feelings when she climbs on and wraps herself around him?

This could have been a very good full-length book, as there were some aspects of Bex's life - like, who was her father and what she was/could be - that could have been expanded and explored in an interesting way if there were more pages in the book. As a novella, it was good but slightly unsatisfying.

Southern Shifters: Ink To BearLissa Matthews

Reviewed by SFF Dragon

Gus and Bex start out as two people taking a journey together, and discover home is really a person on the way. I loved it.

'Ink To Bear' by Lissa Matthews is a stand alone paranormal romance novella and part of Eliza Gayle's multi-author Southern Shifters Kindle Worlds series. I was given a copy by the author in exchange for an honest review and I absolutely loved it. I really didn't want to put it down.

Gus, werebear, loner and always on the move tattoo artist, is drawn to the woman he sees going into the bank. She radiates defeat and pain and he wants to see her smile so he approaches her when she comes out and offers to take her home on his bike. He's searching for a saviour, a place to belong, and he thinks she might be it. His bear definitely thinks so.

I really felt for Bex, now totally alone in the world having lost her mother to cancer a few months ago and sold the home she grew up in because it holds too many painful memories. Now she's about to begin her life again by opening a B&B in Dandridge, Tennessee. When she's approached by Gus they hit it off and after thinking about it for a few hours, she accepts his offer of a lift. He makes her laugh and she hasn't done that in so long. He made me laugh too.

The journey they share is so much more than just a trip through The Dragon, it's a journey filled with emotion and the growth of their relationship. As they get to know each other and share their life stories, bags of donuts and some steamy bits, they each find a kindred spirit. They are soul mates and by the end of the book there is a HEA for them and neither is alone anymore. I loved this book and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Ink To Bear (Southern Shifters: Kindle World)
by Lissa Matthews

Gus is a big bad-ass bear shifter. Most people just take one look at him and walk the other way. That is fine with him. He doesn't form many friendships and no long relationships. He has no desire to. He is a very sought after traveling tattoo artist and this life suits him just fine. At least it did, until a woman catches his eye. He sees her as she walking into a Bank and he does the most unusual thing.....he waits for her to come back out. He has this overwhelming desire to see this woman smile. So he sets out to make her do just that, as much as he can.

Bex has just lost her mother and the only home she has ever known. Losing the home was her choice. She can't stay in her hometown. Too many bad memories. She is moving on and opening a B& B in Tennessee. She finally loses it at the bank and when she leaves, all puffy eyed, she comes face-to-face with a big, tattooed man....Gus. He offers to take her to Tennessee and she does something so unlike her, she looks him up and accepts and gets on a motorcycle.

You can figure out a lot of things while riding a motorcycle.

I fell in love with Gus from the moment I read the blurb for this book. He is just one of those souls that you know needs to find the one meant for him.

I am enjoying the Southern Shifters and look forward to reading more.

As she is leaving the Lawyers office she spots a sexy tattooed man. Gus sees this sexy curvy woman who looks like she has been crying. So he ask her what is wrong?. Bex explains to him she has just lost her mother, and that she is moving to Tennessee. Gus offers to take her to Tennessee for some reason he wants to see her smile. Bex thanks him but says they do not know each other. Gus tells her that's ok he will be around for when (not if ) she changes her mind lol. Bex does not know why she is drawn to this Man. What can I say but I just loved this one. This is also the first time for me in reading this author. Not alot of bear shifters out there but I encountered them years ago and they are fascinating. This one she has spiced up to the point that I had drool coming down the chin. With how he is drawn to his soon to be lady is swoon worthy reading. Bex herself is going through changes and when she decides to follow her heart and go along with Gus after their initial meeting her ride will take her to heights she has never been. His profession has earned him a rep that caused him to even cross her path. Oh and that name for that mountain pass-gotta love it. Both have a interesting story as they get to know each other also, hers really so. I found that too by the time I reach the end though I wanted more of their story with a little pouting because it was over too soon for me. Sneaky author sucks you in but does not spit you out.

I actually liked this short story, it was just enough to be an enjoyable read and made me want to read more in this shifter world. This was Bec & Gus's story. I absolutely love Gus he is exactly a big ole teddy bear shifter, he's large and intimidating but sweet as can be. I really enjoyed the fact that these two met as strangers on the street. I liked that it was a random meeting, seems to make it real. These two were really meant for each other as their interactions with each other were well matched. It was good that Bec got to explore and spread her wings and that Gus was there to support her. Lucky girl, who wouldn't want a supportive hunky, sweet bear of a man. Can't wait to read more of this world and this author.

I was gifted this book by an awesome angel.. thank you, you made my day.

After reading the blurb for this book, I was hooked. I had to get it any way I could.. only problem, I live in Australia... Enter my Angel :)

I loved that the male character is intimidating, alpha all the way, bad ass with tattoos to spare. He's the kinda guy who will happily rip everyone a new one one second then purr like a kitten to his mate the next.

This is a great read. If you have never read a shifter / paranormal book, have a look at this one. It's short, it's sweet, it's sexy.

There are tattoos and muscles people.. MUSCLES!!! ooooo and a bikes gotta love the bike :)

Buy it.. please... its awesome
Thank you

Gus is a traveling tattoo artist without a home or bear clan. One look at this girl in the town he is in and he can't walk away without getting to way his bear is yelling home.
Bex's mom just died so she sold the family bed and breakfast so she sold it to move on with her life. One look into Gus's eyes and she feels the connection she can't explain. She trusts him.
Gus offers her a ride on his bike on the tail of the Dragon mountain pass.
Just hours later she takes him up on his offer. Reckless or not she just has to spend more time with him.

Wow what a great story. It's my first time getting to read one of lissa Matthews books. I loved this book, loved the characters they were great and so much fun!

Bex is left alone in the world after her mother passes and she's struggling to find a place that feels like home. Gus is an in demand traveling tattoo artist that's never found a place to call home. Can a chance meeting grow into something lasting?
This was a great story, from giggles to heat flashes. I've never read this author before but this sounded like a fun read and it definitely was. The connection between Bex and Gus is so effortless and it just works! I love the way the author takes you from laughing at their interactions to bam! Hot and heavy, with seamless style. I loved it from page one till the end!

I was given a complimentary copy for an honest review by author Lissa Matthews.

Rebecca, Bex to her friends, sold her mothers B&B after she died and now she is going to open a new B&B where she lives. Gus travels and does tattoos but does not really have a home. Gus offers to take Bex to her place so he can get to know her better and make her smile. Together they travel to Dandridge Tennessee where Bex lives and learn they have a lot in common to want to be together.

Great story line flow from start to finish. This is a short story with 2 wonderful characters.

This is for any mature paranormal romance book lover.

I didn't want to put it down. I was actually sad that it had to end. Gus is a big tattooed man that is respected and popular as a tattoo artist but never settles in one place. Bex is suffering from the loss of her mother & the sale of the bed and breakfast, the only link to her mom. She meets Gus when she leaves the bank and the adventure begins. These two heat up the sheets during their trip on his motorcycle. I cant wait to see what Lissa Matthew writes next.

I was given this e-book by the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. My conclusions are my own. I was not compensated in any way.

Oh my gosh! I just finished this book and I'm so impressed! I absolutely loved the book. This I the first book I've read by Lissa Mathews but it won't be the last. Her characters are so well written that you understand and empathize with their feelings. You completely understand where Bex is coming from. And her bear, Gus, is one of the hottest characters out there. A lot of women will be dumping their old book boyfriend and making him their new one! I was lucky enough to receive this book in return for an honest review and I honestly recommend it to all the shifter lovers out there. Get it, you won't be disappointed!

I really felt for Bex, she was left all alone in the world. That is until she meets Gus. Gus is big, tattooed and intimidating to those around him. He comes into town briefly for work and can not help but be drawn to Bex. Bex has sold her mother's B&B and is leaving for another town. Gus offers her a ride to her new home. Bex also feels compelled to spent time with Gus but is unsure why. They are quiet fun to read their interactions together. I really enjoyed their story and will be looking for more Southern Shifters books.

This was a quick love story between a woman who has no family left, and is disconnected from people and a bear shifter who is pretty similar. They have an immediate attraction, and she immediately trusts him. She trusts him enough to take a trip with him on his motorcycle. They meet some of the people from the Southern Shifters stories, but this is mostly about them. They fall in love and it gets really sexy. I enjoyed it.

This is a Southern Shifter Kindle World Novella. I have never read anything by Lissa Mathews before. I was not disappointed, the story is about Gus who is a bear without a home, and Bex who is not fully human and not fully shifter. Will these two find what they desire?

"Romance" novel with the typical insta-lust turned love that we see in every book of this genre, complete with a bear shifter for no apparent reason. The setting was kind of cool -- in the south without being over-the-top stereotypical Southern.

I don’t like to give spoilers on the books that I read. I believe the blurb on the back is enough for you to decide if you will read the book or not. If you choose to read, enjoy!

Southern Shifters
Ink To Bear: Kindle Worlds
by Lissa Matthews
I was given this ARC to read and to give a honest review, this is my opinion.

I enjoyed the Southern Shifters and I'm so excited to read more of the series. The storyline is about Gus a bear shifter and his Rebecca his mate. I'm in love with Gus, he is just how I imagine my mate to be. He is a shifter that you know will find the one meant for him. Most people look at him and know to go another way and as bear likes being by themselves that's ok with him. He is a great traveling tattoo artist so people come to him and he likes it this way. But he spots Rebecca as she walks into the bank and he waits for her to come out. He knows he just wants to make her happy.

Bex (Rebecca) is a shifter but she has no idea, her mother just died and she has no idea what to do. But she has knows she can't stay in her hometown too unhappy. She decides to move on and maybe open a BED and Breakfast in Tennessee. When she breaks down in the bank and leaves she runs into Gus. He's big tattooed and he offers to get her to Tennessee and she agrees but this unlike herself she hasn't ever ridden a motorcycle but it's something about Gus that feels she can trust. As their wold is shaken up by the Alpha wolf looking to find a way to help his species be survivors.

This was short but a AWESOME start to a spectacular series.

Title: Southern Shifters:
INK TO BEAR
Kindle World Novella
Black & White Series Book 1

Author: Lissa Matthews

Ohhh I've been waiting for Southern Shifters and let me tell you I am not disappointed. This is my first book with Ms. Matthew but I know for a fact it will not be my last. At the very beginning I was hooked and couldn't put it down.
Gus is a WereBear who has made a name for himself as a sought-after traveling tattoo artist. He stays as long or as little as he wants than he's on the road again. Just him and his motorcycle free to ride the wind. But than again no body would screw with this bad ass biker. Gus was basically a loner and he like it that way. That was before he met
Bex short for Rebecca she was perfect and Gus couldn't take his eyes off her, all he wanted to do is make Bex smile. So he asked her if he could take her to Dandridge, Tennessee where she has bought a Bed and Breakfast and was going to fix it up. As they traveled they both learn more about each other, the more they learned they realized they were meant to be. This is truly a love story. I was gifted this ARC for an honest and truthful review.

I don't quite understand the world created here. I think many shifters dislike humans? And some humans know about shifters, but not all?
Gus' thoughts lead me to believe shifters usually only mate with other shifters?
And other than shifting, I'm not sure if there's anything else which makes a shifter superior to a human...
I can't make statements with this story, as everything I think has a question mark at the end. It's just all so dense and vague.
The book is badly in need of editing: too many unnecessary words and unstructured sentences.
The plot line is almost non-existent: I don't know the point of the story. There's a second book, but this first has to make sense and feel like it's going somewhere for me to want to continue on.
There were times I was left utterly confused after finishing a paragraph: I think I know what the author wanted to say, but the wording was all wrong, leaving me flummoxed.

Rebecca/Bexa is distraught after the death of her mother. So she decides to leave the small town behind and start a new life away from the town she grew up in. She is all alone, but dead set on starting a new life away from here.

Gus is a bear shifter famous for his Ink and is in town to do some....He never stays in one place, he likes living the life of a Nomad, he has never found one place he would like to call home. When he sees the beautiful, but sad girl he decides he would love nothing more than to make her smile, so he sets out to do just that. Has Gus finally found home in Bexa?

Can't wait to read the next book and am on my way to do just that and see what happens to these two lonely souls.

I received an ARC of this book for an honest review

I absolutely loved this book, I have read a few of the Southern Shifters books and this book fits into that world perfectly. Of course I fell in love with Gus he is just so hot, a BIG, Tattooed, Bearded Bear shifter yum, and Bex she just broke my heart, I could totally understand why she sold the B & B. I will admit another reason I truly loved this is because I KNOW the area this series is based in, The Dragon's Tail is a real road, Bryson City and the surrounding mountains are absolutely Gorgeous. Lissa did a great job describing the feeling you get from the area I can't wait to read book two.

Lissa Mathews draws you into her bear shifter story from the first page. The characters are so well written that you totally feel where they are coming from. We meet Bex who just lost her mother and is selling the B & B. Bex meets Gus who offers to take her home on his bike. Will Bex and Gus find that they are better together then not? Great read and I can't wait for more.
OVERALL IMPRESSION OF THE BOOK

What a great story of finding love.... and a hot shifter

Oh, boy! That was an excellent story, it had it all, but a short amount of time. Sweet Bex is lost in this world with grief and not fitting in. But it takes one look meeting a behemoth of a man, sexy, tattooed, and all yummy to know he's different and she wanted more. Gus and his bear, know they have to keep a smile on this beautiful sweet girl.... his girl. I hope to hear more on Bex and Gus!
