This was great. A wonderful romance, with neat action--the bad guys are other shifters, a dragon, a gargoyle, some witches and some pixies. Mina Carter created a special new kind of shifter/magic worker (a Werelock) and also raised an issue of what can happen if a young shifter (pre-shifting age) gets injured--how their inner animal can help. Totally cool. I really enjoyed it.

Holy hotness! Another amazing, fun, and oh so sexy read from Mina Carter.
This was full of action, suspense, and lots of fun paranormal creatures. I loved Renae. She was very feisty and so strong. Surviving on the run from her abusive ex she never gave up and didn't surrender to him. Hale.. OMG I love me a bad boy with swagger and he definitely had that in spades. Attitude and snark he was very yummy. They made for a great couple.
A very interesting world this series takes place in. I definitely plan on checking out more of these Southern Shifters.

short but satisfying shifter read. This was a fast paced paranormal read and I enjoyed the characters. I'll definitely be checking out more of this writer's work.

It has everything you could want in a paranormal romance and left me with a smile on my face. I loved it and want more.
'Werelock', written by Mina Carter, is part of Eliza Gayle's Southern Shifters Kindle Worlds series of stand alone books, novellas and short stories. I was given a copy by the author in exchange for an honest review and I absolutely loved it. I really couldn't put it down and read it in one sitting. Now, I want another one. I love Mina Carter books, have read a lot of them, and this is a terrific addition that I will be reading again and again. Set primarily in Deal's Gap, North Carolina, this paranormal romance novella is something a little different, and very special.
Werelock and bounty hunter, Hale Roark, who doesn't know he's a werelock, is the best in the business even though he's always had a problem bonding with a familiar, and he's tried with all sorts of creatures, but he's powerful enough without one even if he is alone and looked down on by others for having 'muddy' blood. He feels the strong and feral beast that lives in his blood and makes the most of the added power, but he doesn't know what it is, and he can't shift. His current target is Renae Brogan, and should be easy, but things really aren't going to his plan....
Renae Brogan, is a freelance photographer and damaged werelion, alone and on the run from her psycho ex-husband, she's hiding out in Deal's Gap, a place of sanctuary and refuge for the weird and wonderful of the paranormal world, and she feels at home in her small rental house. When she discovers a strange werelion scent in her home, she does the sensible thing and makes a run for it. Caught by Hale, she makes a few discoveries about him....
I loved this story of true mates Hale and Renae as they make discoveries about themselves and each other as well as fight for their lives together. It has everything you could want, including love, magic, humour, steamy bits, mayhem, bad guys like werelions, dragons, gargoyles, and pixies to fight, and the HEA we all expect. It also has a seriously drool worthy car that I really, really want or I would if it hadn't been destroyed. I'd love to read more about these two and hope there will be another book which includes them in the future. This really is a book you should read and I highly recommend it to everyone who loves an absolutely cracking paranormal romance.

Renae is hiding from her ex-husband and his pack and afraid for her life. She is a lioness shifter, half breed with a bad leg and limp from a past accident. Her ex husband has been sending bounty hunters to catch her but his attempts were unsuccessful until Hale.
Hale is a powerful warlock who used his magic to track his "prey". He didn't have difficulties to find Renae however when he met her everything changed.
Renae was Hale's familiar and his job shifted to protecting her.
When Logan, Renae ex husband, sends a supernatural team to catch them Renae finds herself fighting for her life and saving Hale at the same time. Recognizing Hale as a werelock she unlocks his inner lion.
I really wanted to like the book because the story had me hooked from the moment Renae discovered that Hale is a werelock.
The premises of the book started well. A werelock is a new concept on the shifter market and peaked my interest because these days I want freshness and innovation from the authors. After reading some of Mina Carter books I for one know that she can write and deliver great ideas.
How these ideas are put in delivering the book it's a different story all together.
To me the most recent books (from MIna Carter and other authors) are orientated and dominated by sex and sometimes there is nothing but one sex scene in a very, very, very short story. Sex aside there was not much here. I wanted to know more about this new breed of werelocks, about Hale, family history, how and why Renae married Logan and not mated.
In a nut shell the depth or any type of dimension lacked from the story and its characters.
The lack of development killed the whole story and the rating is 2.5 instead of less because of Hale the werelock. To bad I didn't get to know him much.

This book is an amazing addition to the "southern shifters series!". The story line is spellbounding!. Plus you will love the characters!. This story is about a young lioness shifter who is in hiding from her abusive ex. husband. When she left her ex. and his pride she found a way to make it on her own with Photography. One day after coming home from taking photo's she senses someone in her house. Hale Roark is a werelock and one of the best trackers in the bounty hunting business. He has been hired to bring Renae back to her ex. Hale is sitting in Renae's living room waiting for her. After Renae senses him she takes off in the woods behind her house. Hale spots her and chases her down. By the time he catches her she has turned into her lioness. Hale finds out two things first she is a familiar to his warlock self plus she is mate to his animal self. Now he is determined not to let her ex. have her!. Can Hale protect Renae from her ex.?. Hale Roark is a werelock and a bounty hunter. Renae Brogan is a crippled lioness, a nature photographer and trying to hide from her ex in Deal's Gap, Tennessee. Lance Brogan is Renae's ex and the violently abusive bully alpha of the Brogan Pride who has hired several bounty hunters,including Hale, to bring Renae back for punishment.

Mina Carter has a hit on her hands with this tale of Renae an abused werelion on the run from her violent ex husband and of Hale the werelock hired to bring her back home. The chemistry between the two explodes right away as they find in each other the things they each thought they would never have, familiar and mate. The two have quite a battle on their hands in order to survive the evil plans laid out by Renae's evil ex; yet with a bond as strong as that of Renae and Hale, how can a HEA not be in the works.
This is another of the wonderful Southern Shifters books set within Deals Gap, and like its fellow Kindle Worlds entries it is a work that I highly recommend!

Love the Werelock!
Since I've read way too many UF/PNR books, I've always wondered what would happen with a serious magic user that is a shifter, when it's not something that is already mixed in to that universe. Mina Carter does a great job with her Werelock. He fits perfectly in this mini world that she has created within Eliza Gayle's larger universe.
I'd recommend this to any Carter fan, any fan of the Southern Shifters series and anyone wanting a taste of a slightly violent look into the PNR world!

Hale Roark is a warlock, at least that's what he thinks he is. Renae Brogan is a lion shape-shifter who is running from an abuse ex. Hale has been hired to track her down and bring her back, but he doesn't know the whole story. He's an expert bounty hunter, but he never thought he'd be facing down dragons for this woman!
Werelock is a fun, sexy read with a lot of humor thrown in. It is a short story, but there's a lot of information packed into those few pages, so hang on for a wide ride! I really enjoyed this story, and I'm looking forward to Ms. Carter's next hot offering! ;-)

Must Read
You must read this book, it was amazing and learning about a new shifter called werelock. It was hard to put it down the farther I read? The characters were awesome; they had depth and easy to get caught up in their emotions. Very well written and keep them coming.

Loved this!
The characters had attitude and sass in spades! It was A series story line, but the banter and attitude of the characters still made me smile and chuckle along the way!
A few typos, but the story was so fun I didn't care.

Great Read
This story is well written. There is a lot of violence towards the end. There is sexual content that is well written. The characters are developed throughout the story. It's another great story to add to her collection.

Wow this book was awesome. I loved it all of it, from start to finish! The storyline was interesting and had lits of action. The characters were strong, stubborn and full of sass. I just loved everything about this book. I highly recommend this read!

Liked enough things for two stars but wanted to give it just one .
I really wanted to like this ,I once saw myself a fan of Mina but now? I'm honestly not sure... I've absolutely LOVED some of her books in the past ,like the two books in the Reaper "series" ( do two books make a series? And the one book in what was supposed to be a series about soldiers turned into Zombies ( was an awesomely good read) (soo LOVED it!) I was really disappointed their haven't been more,but the. Most books seemed to become soo sex driven their sometimes nothing but one long sex scene,with the stories soo short if you took out all the sex their barely be anything else, or their dominant stupid make who do nothing but treat the woman like crap and order her around, or endless short story part works,good stories like the zombies or the Reaper with strong interesting characters with a fun and interesting story where the sex and action and everything is in balance sadly is rare and far in between and this story definitely was NOT one of the rare ones,not for me any way ;(
It started off kinda good I liked the idea behind it and I thought the premise was original a Werelock ? Was a Cool idea but it felt rushed one minute and lacking the next dual p.o.v s on minute and then nothing but her for over 2 chapters or more,one minute she can barely blink with out Hale finding her and the next all these evil creatures are constantly on top on him and she's fighting for her life all alone? One minute Hake is this powerful Badass and the next he's a useless lump she's constantly getting the crap beat out of her and the he steps in almost last minute to save the day but "let's" her kill her evil coward of an ex and then basically it's all over? W T F ?!?!?
At the beginning of your almost over whelmed in page after page of backstory ,soo much soo it's like you get more inner monologue than outer dialogue ( which I HATE) then little to no story/relationship between them....
Girl on the run for ages alone does a great job of protecting herself and staying under the radar the guy finds her, realizes she's his familiar and maybe his mate ... And somehow he now constantly leads them to her,is useless when she needs him most the pops out at last minute to help save them both,with no development in between of the story etc. in between...
Soo much to work with but soo little done.... A real waste of time and money ... Our and hers..
This could been soo great ,why couldn't the relationship and their story have had a chance to develop? Both their stories and the relationship was soo interesting ... A shifter who's a mate and a familiar for a Werelock ,of all things? That alone could made an interesting story but to go from them finding each other to overwhelm ping them constantly in a very over kill kinda with evil creatures bent on their destruction was too much and depressing ... From insta love to over kill to almost killed to the end..
It was like a bad microwave meal, over cooked and under done all at the same time :(

I loved this story, it was a very enjoyable read.
Poor Renae had suffered so much but had the strength to run from one horrible situation. I loved how she came into her own at the end and made the ex-husband pay, poetic justice to one nasty piece of work.
Hale was one very yummy hot alpha male and I liked his behaviour towards Renae.

Exciting and interesting story
I love this story! Broken people make the best storylines! The plot was well written with a story arc that included many exciting chase and fighting scenes. There are twists that will surprise you and a love story that you didn't see coming.

I really loved this book. Mina Carter always makes her characters real and their situations are always interesting. I recommend all of her books to everyone who loves a great story.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book!
It's a fun read! Mina Carter is, as usual, able to make me laugh and smile while reading a very good story that is definitely not your typical shifter romance. I'll be looking for the next book when I leave here. Now! 🐺
It's a fun read! Mina Carter is, as usual, able to make me laugh and smile while reading a very good story that is definitely not your typical shifter romance. I'll be looking for the next book when I leave here. Now! 🐺

This was a really short book. She was running from her ex-husband who was abusive he was a warlock or werelock and was a bounty Hunter and he had come after her because they had lied about why she was running. He was werelock but he was also part lion and had just discovered that she is his mate and his familiar .. when he discovers this he knows that he cannot let her go and she figures out that he's her mate also. But of course they have to go through a lot to get to the good end.

I always enjoy reading Mina Carter stories. Her characters are always fun to read.

Cute shifter book. Liked both the main characters. Wished for more of an epilogue. Love the author.
