Highland Destiny; The Complete Collection

Rate this book

The Highland Destiny saga, a tale of betrayal, murder, and magick spanning two continents and hundreds of years. Join four couples as they race against time to discover the lost secrets of Druidry, even as the members of the dark Bresal Etarlam sect work to destroy all that is light in order to claim the Druid legacy as their own.

Highland Shift (Highland Destiny #1)

Elena MacFarland wonders what everyone else knows about her new farm that she doesn’t, and whether she’ll live long enough to find out. Betrayed by her fiancé and the powerful Worthington family, Elena fights back and negotiates a comfortable settlement with one small caveat: she must live in Scotland for two years. One kidnapping and two attempts on her life later, the darkly arrogant Scot, Faolan MacGailtry declares himself her new protector and moves into her farmhouse. Major problem? He was present at all three incidents. Elena decides to follow the adage to keep her friends close and enemies closer - but which is he?

One by one, Elena uncovers Faolan’s darkest secrets: his Druid heritage, his connection to her past, and finally, the deadly curse that is powerful enough to destroy them both.

Highland Pull (Highland Destiny #2)

Waking up next to a dead woman was a good indication that Dr. Gabhran MacLachlan was in bigger trouble than he’d realized. Recognizing this as a trap set by the dark Druid Master, Gav races from Edinburgh to New Orleans, to find Alysone, a mental patient who claims to have awakened in a reality that isn’t hers. Her story, so close to his own, may be the necessary key to unlock his Druid memories and prevent him from shifting realities once again.

When Alysone disappears, Det. Miranda Close is less than thrilled to discover her new landlord and would-be lover is the missing woman’s doctor. Raised in the magick of New Orleans and already familiar with the darkness coiled within Gav, Randi’s belief in the supernatural may be all that saves her life when they are pulled hundreds of years into his past, and only one of them remembers the truth. When realities shift once again, Randi realizes they are pawns in a much larger game.

Highland Push (Highland Destiny #3)

Using the spell of time shifting, Alexander MacLachlan says good-bye to his beloved brother, his brother’s wife, and his own darling Alysone - necessary sacrifices for the survival of Druidry. With his family far in the future preparing for battle, Alex must fulfil his destiny: find the Worthington heir, then kill and be killed.

Thrust forward to a time not her own, Alysone and the others discover precious few light Druids remain to offer their protection to Scotia and the world. As the time for the prophesied battle grows nearer, past meets present, and they realize someone besides Alexander is manipulating events.

In a race against time, they must discover the lost secrets of Druidry, even as the members of the dark Bresal Etarlam work to destroy all that is light and claim the Druid legacy as their own.

Highland Destiny (Highland Destiny #4)

Although Professor Andi Cunningham knows Druidry and magick are real, her dream to recreate a twelfth century Scottish castle is destroyed when the Druid who claimed her heart wards her from the land. Now Andi’s deeply hidden Druid powers have been awakened by her new husband, Liam - Ian’s descendant and the son of the Master of the Bresal Etarlam, who wants her untapped power as his own.

Ian Worthington, the ancient warrior displaced by time, knows sacrifices must be made for the good of the order, including his own heart. However, as prophesies are revealed, he discovers sending Andi away for her protection may prove too costly for them all. When Ian convinces her to return to finish her work on the castle, both sides in the Druid conflict are pleased.

With both Ian and Liam keeping secrets, Andi must uncover the darkest secrets of her Druid heritage and the connection to the past, before the upcoming battle destroys the balance of power forever. All that’s at stake is the fate of the world.

Highland Shift.
★★★★★
Elena is of to start a new life in Scotland, after a bitter break up. Her old boss (her boyfriend's father) has paid her off with the title to a farm in the highlands.
When a very large sexy Highlander pushes his way into her life, Elena is not at all sure she should trust him.
Faolan has found out the farm that once belonged to his family is changing hands. He needs to find out if the woman taking it is working for his enemies or is as innocent as she seems.
When the attacks start to happen the magic flares to life.
Faolan is a Druid and wolf shifter. So he needs to keep Elena from finding out. Elena discovers some very strange things on the farm and will investigate them.
A magical romance, that grabs you on the first page and doesn't let go. Lots of mystery to keep the brain thinking, and some hot sex scenes.
Loved it.

This series definitely has to be read in order.
Gabhran left Scotland in a hurry. Now he is in New Orleans. The darkness that invaded him at the Beltane is causing him an anger management problem. The magic in New Orleans makes him feel welcome. But he has come for a reason. There is a woman that has told her doctors she has memories of other times. He has often felt the same.
What he doesn't know is he has been followed by a very dangerous Druid.
Miranda is a New Orleans detective. Her new landlord is setting of all sorts of alarm bells in her mind. He is handsome, sexy and good company sometimes. Other times she sensesa darkness about him.
So how will a Druid cope in the city of Voodoo.? Will the interference of a Voodoo Queen improve things or make them worse. ?
This story is a lesson in why you should not play around with time travel, it can confuse things. We skip about in time and somebody has personality problems.
A fascinating read that keeps you enchanted all the way through.
I'm glad I have the next book because I can't wait to read it.

In this part of the series Alex has sent all his family through the stone circle into the future. He must stay to carry out his part in history. His love Alysone is pregnant and he has had to send her away. He hopes she can be happy in the future.
Ian has always admired Alysone. He knows she will always love Alex, but Alex is seven hundred years in the past. He is prepared to be second best.
In the present time the Druids and their families must prepare for battle. With three pregnant women among them this needs to be secure.
They need to reclaim the lands, and rebuild from scratch.

The more I read of this series the deeper I get. There are so many wonderful characters. The bloodlines are so important, but some connections have been hidden.
Lots of magical shenanigans going on. Some for good some not. .
I'm glad I have the next part of the story ready to read.

The last of this part of the series, this story brings all the different factions together in a magical battle. There are some who seem to have their own agenda. Its very hard to know how it will all end. The castle is nearing completion, the births are imminent. Outside forces are to play a big part in the ending.
A wonderful .climax to an incredible series. Until our author tells us there is no way to know how it will end. ( I don't think she knew herself, until the Fae told her ) .
A series that MUST be read in order.
WARNING once started it's impossible to stop until the last book is read.

I have to say, getting to read this series in its entirety in one fell swoop is the best way to experience this epic saga of paranormal perfection. There are about 1100 pages, and when I got to the end, I was so in love with this story, I read it again. It is that good. This is one of the best series I have read this year. I cannot say too much about how amazing this collection is. If you love Druids, voodoo, witchcraft, Fae magic, and time travel, you will feel as though you hit the jackpot with this book. The characters are fantastic, as the story goes on, you learn more and more about these highlanders and their families. Oh, did I mention there are also almost vampires in here too? Yup. it is all in here.
The saga begins with Elena. In the first book, Highland Shift, she has gone to Scotland through a deal with her former fiance and his father. She has been cut loose from the law firm she worked for. Apparently, her only worth was helping the son get through the Bar. But she didn't go quietly. In her settlement, she is paid for five years and gets a house in Scotland which will be hers in she is still in it after 6 months. The former fiance and his father have set it up to kill her so they will inherit the house. Plans go bad when the mysterious highlander, Faolan MacGailtry, saves her life. Little does Elena know that she is so far from her former life in Arizona, but now she is knee deep in a prophecy that she is a part of. And she learns that she has magic in her as well. This is a great read that introduces you to the complicated Druid world. If I could give it more than five stars, I would. It is awesome!
The second book is Highland Pull. This is Gabhran and Miranda's book. This book is full of time travel between the 14th and the 21st century. It starts with Gabhran learning that there is a woman in New Orleans who seems to be in a time with no memory. He also feels like he shifts through time about every five years, only to start over yet everyone else seems to think he has been there all along. Being a doctor, he goes to New Orleans to talk with Alysone. She is in a mental hospital because she has no memory. While he is there, he meets a spitfire cop named Miranda. She goes by Randi. Gabhran feels darkness in himself, but he doesn't know why. They have their issues, but are drawn to each other. This book is where the voodoo and witchcraft plays a big role. i don't want to give away anything. There is someone else in the shadows trying to get Gabhran to the dark side of the Druids. Gav is not completely aware of his magic. When Randi's cousin, a powerful witch/voodoo priestess, tells her to stay close to Gav, they are both sucked back to the 14th century Scotlans where Gav has new memories of Randi. She has to get him to remember, but things go sideways on her and she gets trapped there.
The third book is Highland Push. This is Alysone and Alexander's book. The main players in the saga are revealed in this book and the light Druids are working towards the battle between light and dark and the future of the world. In this one, Alexander has been presumed lost at sea. Alysone, or Lissa, has loved Alex for as long as she remembers. But in the 14th century, a Laird doesn't get involved with the servants. There love is consummated before he left, leaving her pregnant. Randi figured out that she was the woman Gav was seeing in New Orleans. When Alex inadvertently sends her to the future with Gav, he is stuck where he is because he has to protect the timeline and complete his part of the prophecy. But nothing is ever going to be the way you think it is going in these books and this is the book we learn about the darkness and the near vampires. This is probably my favorite book. There are so many pawns and time shifts and plotting going on to gear up for the final battle.
The last book in the saga is Highland destiny. This is Ian Worthington and Andi Cunningham's book. In this one, Ian has pushed Andi out of the castle building, he thinks she will be safer. He realizes she is his soulmate, but he screwed that up royally when they had sex, he thought she had no morals and seduced him when that wasn't what happened. But now, the evil Liam has his clutches in her because he wants her magic for the dark druids. He manipulates her with some help from his father. The battle between light and dark is upon the group and everyone has their part to play. There are forces beyond the groups range that are also influencing events. I don't want to say anymore, so go buy this set and settle in for an incredible journey through the highlands. This set is one that must not be missed. It is an amazing journey.

Review of Highland Destiny The Complete Collection by Laura Harner

Highland Destiny is an exciting saga that takes us through history and across the globe from America to Scotland. It’s a story that encompasses several families and their connection to druidism. Magick and myth become real in the world Laura Harner creates, and it is easy to believe it is just as real outside of the books. The characters feel real, with their own strengths and weaknesses, and each one has an important place in the story. It's great to read characters that come right off the page! I felt for them during their struggles and celebrated their victories with a sense that I, as a reader, was an important part of the books.

This series is a must read! It's sexy and intriguing, and easy to fall into. I had a fantastic time reading it, enjoying the twists and turns that each book in the series brought to the table. I read each of the four books with baited breath, unable to put the series away. I’ll admit to staying up late to finish an extra chapter or two.

One of the best things about this compilation is that when one book is done, you can jump right into the next book and continue the journey. While we get to know certain characters in the different books, the characters’ lives intersect and flow throughout the series.

In Highland Shift we meet Elena and Faolan. Elena is fresh from a break-up and moving to Scotland as a part of a settlement. She is drawn to Faolan immediately, but his disarming charm wears through when he becomes a regular part of the scenery. With all that is happening, she has reason to suspect his presence, but can’t resist her feelings for this unusual man. Through a series of attacks and adventures, Elena and Faolan learn they have a path to follow.

Highland Pull is the second book in the collection. In it we get to know Gabhran and Miranda, as well as a few other key characters in the storyline. Gabhran, or Gav, goes to New Orleans to find some answers to the his problem. His reality is constantly changing, and it seems something else has control over his life. Miranda is a police officer that suspects him of a crime, yet finds herself irresistibly pulled to his side.

Highlander Push, the third book, tells the story of Lissa and Alexander, who we first encountered in Highland Pull. These two lovers have had their lives constantly ripped apart in spite of the strength of their love for one another. Time plays a vital part in their story, history and the present each presenting their own challenges.

The fourth book, Highland Destiny, introduces Andi and Ian and the challenges they face in coming together. There is always something standing between them, and it’s up to them to struggle past each of their obstacles. This is also the culmination of the story, where all roads have been leading them. There is betrayal and murder, the twists keeping even the characters off-balance. No one knows what the end result will be, but they all are working toward their one goal. To survive.

This is an exciting, beautifully written story of good versus evil, light against dark, with shades of gray. Laura Harner has a gift for introducing tension, then building and maintaining it. I absolutely loved this collection and look forward to reading more by Harner. With a break in between for sleep.
1. Highland Shift is a standalone series opener with an HEA. Elena McFarland is an attorney from Phoenix, until recently engaged to Marty Worthington, son of Martin Worthington, her boss. After coaching Marty through passing the bar, he broke their engagement and her employment contract. Elena wades through threats and heated negotiations, and she is given a farm in Scotland as compensation. All she has to do is live there for six months before receiving full title, that and stay alive at least that long.
2. Highland Pull finds Martin Worthington's younger son, Liam, in New Orleans pursuing Gabhran MacLachlan, a Druid and physician they want to bring over to their cause to overthrow the light Druids. But Liam finds there is other strong magick at large in the French Quarter, and deep in the swamp.
3. Highland Push travels back to the 1400's where Alexander MacLaughlin has been manipulating time in an effort to protect the people he loves. Stephen Worthington, a jealous younger brother to Alex's best friend, Ian, makes his move against his father, the Laird, and Ian to seize power for himself and become Druid Master.
4. Highland Destiny is the conclusion to this part of the story of light vs dark. Martin Worthington, Master of Bresal Eterlam, uses Liam's wife, scholar of ancient times Dr Andi Cunningham, as a mole to gain information about the castle she is helping to reconstruct on the footprint of the original castle on the Gailtry farm. And both sides prepare for a battle on Beltane, when the Bresal Eterlam will face off with the light Druids who are fighting to preserve not only druidry, but also mankind.

WARNING: once you begin, you will be hooked and lose sleep.
You will not want to do anything else until you know what happens next.

From America, a bad break up, and basically a bribe, send Elena off to Scotland to heal her wounds. She has "inherited" a farm. There she meets Faelin, a man with dark secrets of his own and many suspicions about the new landowner. Thus begins this steamy erotic series which is a combination of paranormal, magical, shifter time travel romance and magical, cursed, fantasy thriller.
There are innumerable elements and levels to the plot twists which flow well into each other.
Well developed charters, both primary and secondary. This first novel is a race between survival and breaking a moon-tied curse.

You will be glad to be able to jump directly into the second book. This time rushing from Scotland to New Orleans, U.S. to compare Alysone's story with his own, and memories of a different time, Dr.Gabhran MacLachlan has no idea what will be in store for him. His druid past comes up against New Orleans witchcraft, voodoo, and the dark spirit we all feel as we are engrossed in the story.
Detective Miranda Close grew up with New Orleans voodoo culture and has psychic powers of her own. Something about Dr. Gab, her landlord, triggers her senses. Good at her job, Randi also shows vulnerability.

In the third selection, it is not just country hopping. It is real forward time travel to save the Druids. Again the characters are well developed and the plot threads flow together extremely well. The story is complex, dangerous. And exciting.
By book four this series turns into all out fantasy adventure.
It continues to be emotional, complex and thrilling. You can't stop reading until the final page. At times it is hard to tell who is good or evil.
A great ending...or is it?

I received Highland Destiny: The Complete Collection as an ARC and fell in love with every character the more I continued to read. I was mesmerized from the start in Highland Shift and Elena & Faolan. Again with Highland Pull, Gav & Miranda. Then Alexander & Alysone in Highland Push, love withstanding the test of time. Finally; they all were brought together with Andi, Ian and Liam in Highland Destiny. One by one they are all timeless but together it becomes epic.
