Một lần nọ, bố bạn Nim quyết định ra khơi để tìm hiểu về những sinh vật phù du trong ba ngày. Ba ngày ở một mình quả là hành trình dài ra phết với Nim, không thua gì chuyến đi biển của bố cả. Tuy được thỏa thích vui chơi nhưng Nim không quên làm những công việc quan trọng thay bố đâu nhé: nào là kiểm tra hộp thư điện tử và tấm năng lượng mặt trời, nào là chăm vườn rau, xem hướng gió! Cô bạn hồn nhiên và cứng cỏi không hề biết rằng, thuyền của bố đã gặp nạn. Cùng lúc đó, có hai sự kiện bất ngờ xảy đến. Liệu Nim sẽ nghĩ ra kế hoạch táo bạo nào để cứu bố? Với hai sự kiện không lường trước, bạn ấy sẽ xoay xở ra sao?

Đã bao giờ các bạn muốn sống trên đảo, cùng một cậu giông mào, một nàng sư tử biển và một cô rùa? Mỗi ngày trôi qua có hàng đống trò chơi: để xem nào, chúng mình bơi, chúng mình lặn, rồi trượt xuống thác nước đánh tùm nữa chứ; và những bài học lý thú cũng nhiều vô thiên lủng, “học về các vì sao, leo lên vách cao ngắm chim trong tổ (...) học tiếng của loài cá heo, học về những con cua bé xíu trôi ra biển xa trên những ngôi nhà bằng dừa (...) học cả cách nhìn mây trời và lắng nghe tiếng gió”.

Chúng mình sẽ không nhầm Đảo của Nim với Đảo hoang của chú Robinson Crusoe đâu! Đây là nhà của Nim cơ! Ực, xem kìa, bạn ấy uống nước trong những quả dừa. Chẹp, ăn bánh mỳ nướng trên Bãi Đá Rít nóng quanh năm. Lại còn câu cá và nói tiếng gừ gừ của sư tử biển. Đỉnh thế không biết!

Nào các bạn, hè này chúng mình sẽ cùng Nim hét thật to và tha hồ thót tim trong những cuộc phiêu lưu hết sảy nhé!

Thế cơ mà, điều hay ho nhất là chúng mình sẽ biết rằng trẻ con cũng làm được ối việc quan trọng ơi là quan trọng! Trẻ con có thể cực kì tự lập và can đảm để bảo vệ những điều quý giá - như gia đình và hòn đảo của mình í!

I’m an author, but I could never have started writing books if I hadn’t loved reading them first. Reading isn’t just one of my favourite things to do; it’s one of the most important things in my life. I can’t imagine a world in which I couldn’t read, every day. That’s why I always read to my children every day, just as my parents used to read to me. Stories can be exciting, sad, funny, scary or comforting, but the most amazing thing about them is that they take us into new worlds and teach us something more about ourselves, all at the same time.

I was so excited to see another book about Nim after having read the first one. Yay for Nim!

This one takes Nim off the island - and everyone else too. As usual Nim is amazingly resourceful, and her animal friends seem to understand her and each other perfectly. In case you were missing the message about the destruction tourists do to the environment in the first book, you get beat over the head with it a bit here. But in a good way. If anything, hopefully it will make kids think a bit as they travel with their parents about what's right and what isn't when visiting faraway places.

I loved the game of Spider. I loved how the children really band together on the cruise and form solid bonds with each other. I love how Nim learns to love all the places she goes, and that living in a cave on an island isn't necessarily the only 'right' way to live. I think she's going to be a really well-rounded individual as she grows up.

Overall, I still enjoyed this book immensely and couldn't put it down. To lovers of Nim in the movie versions, the books are a must-read. I wish there were a whole lot more about Nim and her world to read. :)

And that's how you find out about the sequel of the book you had read a million years ago.... with my childhood being long gone I really enjoyed this story that took me back to my carefree years!

An appealing, joy-filled book series, similar to Pippi Longstocking tales, in the overall optimist, carefree, creative tone of the main character and her two young sidekicks. For early chapter book readers, this second book in the series shows what happens when Alex and Nim have a brief, emotional clash which sets a series of events in motion leading each of the Nim's Island protagonists (both human and animal) to set out on separate and unexpected journeys to New York City. The charming maps and illustrations add to the joy of the story, as do the beloved animal characters Selkie, Fred, and Galileo (along with some new animal friends they meet throughout their travels).

The characters, settings and events were fairly realistic, apart from the animal smuggling operation. Nim's naivete as a very isolated island girl encountering the very different lifestyles of a modern cruise liner and New York City sights was heartwarming to experience. This book should be turned into a movie every bit as much as others have been, as it a perspective few within westernized nations could help but learn valuable lessons from.

In the companion to Nim's Island, Alex has moved to the island with Jack and Nim, but it's not paradise. Nim gets mad at Alex and says something she shouldn't--and Alex decides to leave. Nim feels incredibly guilty about this and goes off to mope. But suddenly she realizes that Selkie's been kidnapped! By the evil Troppo Tourists! Nim goes after her and soon becomes a stowaway on the cruise ship where she meets new friends and discovers some disturbing things. The way to Manhattan is paved with challenges and Nim's determined to save Selkie and get Alex back.

Delightfully adorable book. I may have even liked this one more than the first. It's fun to see Nim experience new friends and so much new food. She's still brave and spunky, and an adorable heroine.

I liked this better than Nim's Island. It had a little more action and suspense - more like the movie version of Nim's Island. I hope they'll make a movie of this one too.

Very cute! If you've read the first book or have seen the movie Nim's Island. You will enjoy reading Nim's adventure of saving her friend Selkie and finding Alex. Looking forward for a third book.

Nim's Island is one of my son and I's favorite books, so we were thrilled to see there was a sequel. In one word, these stories are delightful. Every child should read about Nim and her friends, to learn about compassion, diversity, how a friend can be found in any shape or age or even species. Great storytelling and unforgettable characters!

This was such a fun little sequel to Nim's Island. I loved the 100% kid solutions to things, Nim's sensitive heart, and how she hates seeing animals getting hurt. I thought the disagreement at the beginning was a bit petty, but still, it's a kid's book so it's pretty simplistic. Also, them getting to the publishers took way to long. O.o

Câu chuyện về một cô bé mạnh mẽ, sống cùng bố trên một hòn đảo xinh đẹp, bầu bạn cùng sư tử biển, rùa biển và giông mào :))

Tuy sống trên đảo nhưng hai bố con không bị tách biệt với thế giới bên ngoài. Họ vẫn dùng máy tính và điện thoại, vẫn đọc sách và thi thoảng gặp người đưa nhu yếu phẩm. Người cha say mê nghiên cứu tự nhiên và các loại sinh vật phù du. Cô con gái nhỏ mê đọc sách phiêu lưu, và ước ao được gặp tác giả cuốn sách để bày tỏ lòng ngưỡng mộ…

Mình rất thích cách tác giả miêu tả về cảnh thiên nhiên trên hòn đảo đó, vô cùng đẹp và đáng yêu, mà khi đọc người ta sẽ phải thầm nghĩ “thiên đường chắc cũng chỉ đến thế này thôi”. Cách cô bé Nim xoay xở để sống tốt trong những ngày bố Jack vắng nhà cũng thật tháo vát và dễ thương. Và hơn hết thảy, mình thích cách họ sống tuy hơi biệt lập với bên ngoài, nhưng vẫn giữ được thói quen văn minh như là đọc sách.

I wish I had found Nim's Island along with this companion piece, maybe I would have enjoyed it more.

I really don't get why Nim calls her father by his given name.

Anyway, Wendy Orr is very good at making me feel anxious. I felt anxious over them taking Selkie and Nim trying to save her. The entire thing was belly churning to me. I'm sure as a young kid reading it, I would have seen a fun adventure. Now I see a desperate father who has no idea where his little girl is. Strange how one's age changes the book.

Anyway it all ends happily ever after,so that's always a plus for me.

Cute book. Fun sequel. The Troppo Cruise company is back, this time kidnapping Shelkie. Nim has a fight with Alex and Alex decides to leave island thinking that Nim and Jack are tired of her. When Nim finds out that Shelkie has been kidnapped she goes after the cruise ship with Fred and is rescued by a boat from that ship. Once onboard she tries to figure out how to rescue Shelkie while making sure that no one realizes that she is a stowaway.

What a fun sequel to "Nim's Island!" I read it aloud to our family while we traveled via ferry between Canada and Washington, which added to the fun! We hope there's going to be a book 3!

This is completely a kid's book...things happen very conveniently (but not so easily that there's no tension for the kids, adults, however, won't find it the most griping tale). Thanks for a fun story, Wendy Orr!

This is the sequel to 'Nim's Island.' Just as exciting as the first book with the nemesis being a 'professor' that collects rare animals to sell. Of course, Selkie is abducted, so Nim has to save her and goes on an adventure. Not as good as the first book, but I wouldn't be surprised if this one became a movie, too with how it was written. Kind of a kid-power story.

Nim at Sea was so fun and such an improvement from Nim's Island! I really enjoyed the adventure and I wish I was half as brave as Nim. Loved Nim's character and the animals (who can resist Fred and Selkie's cuteness?) were especially well described and had a personality of their own. Really really liked it! :)

This was a great sequel! I loved seeing Nim interact with other kids. And I liked that the Troppo Tourists get to be individuals now. The bad guy is one person among the employees of the Troppo Tourists.

Just as cute as the first one--with a bit more action--though I wished it had taken place on Nim's little island again. But there were monkeys in this one ;P so it's a trade-off... I read this book on my Kindle and still enjoyed the hilarious illustrations.
