Engaged to gorgeous, wealthy Matteyo “Mattie” Dillinger, ours was a love so powerful, so real, I physically ache now that he’s gone. I hate the judgement I see when I tell people about Mattie. Disbelief. Pity. Fear. Skepticism. I need no reminder he was murdered. I was there. I watched him struggle to take a breath—felt the last rise and fall of his chest. And it changes nothing. Everything I’m saying is real.
It has to be real.
Doesn’t it?
I’d know if I was losing my sanity.
Wouldn’t I?
Mattie’s death has torn my world apart. He left me everything, but nothing is what it seems. The more I learn, the more I believe he’s been lying to me all along. I’m tortured by visions of him whenever I close my eyes. He’s in the twilight—some mysterious place between sleep and wake. He needs me to find him, because if I don’t, we’ll be divided forever.

I really hate that this isn't a longer story. Hopefully there will be more of this world to come. Amy is one of the best writers of otherworldly love stories.
Argh... why is Amy Bartol torturing us?! Fantastic novella but I need more; what happened to May? Is Clyde ok? How does Violet fit into Mattie’s future? I’m so intrigued about this world. Give us more Amy Bartol!
This was really interesting! I loved the unique feel of the aliens involved and how there was an easy to understand complexity to their nature. It’s definitely one of those stories you wish had a series to go along with it. I did have a bit of trouble taking the proper nouns seriously though. This is also the longest story in the book.
3.5* I adore Amy Bartol's writing, and I really did enjoy this....I just wanted more! I want to know more about The Divided...the worlds they come from, their abilities....and I want to know more about Matt and Violet.
I really enjoyed this novella. I don't want to put any spoilers but I was satisfied with the storyline and I'm kind of hoping Amy makes a second part, lol.
I loved this short story...too much for it to be so short 😂 I was devasted when I realised that that was all we were getting as I was ready to settle down for the epic adventures that the books from this author always take us on. There were so many directions that this story could have gone in, I hope this book is picked back up and continued. I’d still recommend as it is written beautifully.
Favorite Quote: "You speed, you fail to maintain a proper distance from the vehicle in front of you, you demonstrate improper lane changes, you talk on the phone while you drive, and you drift." I frown. "I don't drift." "You drift. I will drive."
An unusal quick read. It's unlike anything I've read before and gives you an idea of what else there is in the world. It's fast paced and action packed. Worth a read.
This book was incredible! It's a short story about a girl who has lost her fiance in a very traumatic way. While I would have loved for this story to be a full-length book, that is purely selfish reasons... It was soo good that I wanted more, more, more.
Even though it were a short story, I never once felt like the author rushed me through the paces. She managed to build a three-dimensional world with complex characters in under 100 pages.
If you like Young Adult, Paranormal or any well-written novel, this one is an absolute must on your TBR!!
Another amazing story by Amy Bartol! I really hope The Divided becomes a series because it was over way to fast! Amy weaved a unique alien tale packed full of all kinds of yummy with complex and awesome characters! Give us more Amy!
