Sasano grew up in an all female household and loves pretty things, including Koga, a schoolmate in another class. What happens when Sasano no longer has to stare at Koga from windows but can be beside him?
3.5* This is very sweet story! Also the drawing style is so beutiful! Is light romance between classmates, Sasano has a crush for a boy but he really don't know how to approach him because he is pretty popular. But one day, they finally speak and this other guy develops a special atraction towards Sasano too! So he start to follow him to his class and try to make friends there!
While well drawn, with some subtly beauty combinations of grays, this BL suffers from an identity crisis. There are enjoyable moments throughout, but it can also be confusing at times. When I got to the end of this one-shot, all the pieces didn’t quite add up to a holistic experience, and instead I was left wondering about some of the parts.
It starts out from the perspective of Sasano, who was raised by his mom and sisters after his dad died. As a result, he likes cute, girly things, albeit he’s self-conscious about this. Sasano’s character and motives are clear from the start, but I can’t say the same for his love interest, Koga. Koga’s motivations are vague, at best; while we get to know him because the point of view switches from Sasano to Koga in the middle chapters, he never really comes into focus. We’re given a few tidbits about his past near the end, but it comes too late to give us clear idea of who he is.
It’s not unusual for a manga to jump from one scene to another without much transition for the reader. Typically, though, there’s a rhythm or reason for these jumps. The jumps in “Please Stop, Your Dazzling” are irregular and confusing.
Interestingly, two of the secondary characters, blunt Sugiyama, and the tall, handsome Hibiya (who is a big sweetheart), have an almost instantaneously interesting dynamic. The author clearly likes these characters, because the narrative takes a detour to spend time with them - which only made wonder why she didn’t make these two the main characters and Sasano and Koga secondary characters. (Of course, something may have been lost in translation, but the translation closely tracks with the visual narrative).
I don’t love it, but don’t hate it. There are plenty of signs in this BL that the author has some strong ideas. Together with her polished and effective artwork, maybe her next BL will be more cohesive.
I enjoy the art style, so I wanted to like the story but... it’s a mixture of the panel progression, storyline, and English translation, but I can’t follow or get interested in the dialogue most of the time. Something about the dialogue feels clunky and awkward, and there’s not enough transition panels to make the story smooth?
Unfortunately, same issue with the sequel, although I do like the characters in the sequel a bit more.
this is seriously one of the cutest things i have ever read the art style is amazing i also love that there's no conflict. it's just about a guy falling for another guy, confessing and the happy end. with them being cute and adorable in between. that's honestly quite refreshing. i couldn't stop smiling the whole way through
