Things are heating up in Gotham City's underworld and the Penguin wouldn't have it any other way. With his hands tied by the Hang Man case, can Batman stop the fowl felon from starting a gangwar?

Such an action packed issue! Immediately starting with an all out turf war on the docks between penguin and the Falcone crime family as their grip continues to slip. Caught in the fire is Edward Skeevers, responsible for getting the Falcones' illegal merchandise into Gotham, and Anthony Zucco, responsible for the ground transportation. The art continues to be astronomically beautiful, especially in the action scenes, and as Batman swoops in to subdue the shooters and end everything in a mess of flash bangs. Edward and Anthony slip away after Edward caught a bullet in the leg. But the one thing that stays on batman's mind...is his old friend..Harvey Dent. Every holiday a police officer has been murdered with a hangman's game, written out on Harvey's legal papers, pinned to their bodies. The clues would lead to the murderer being Harvey...but batman's instincts would say otherwise. And tonight he is getting a chance to talk to someone he thinks has answers...the penguin. I absolutely love penguin's design, the almost inhuman teeth and wail as batman beats him for info. The dark knight has definitely gone off the deep end a bit.
Alternatively, because of Batman's inability to work with others right now, Gordon has created a special secret task force within the GCPD to investigate this case. Assigning each of the detectives he really trusts to a previous victim. Everyone is on the clock to catch the hangman as more holidays roll around. We know he can trust this group as Gordon claims he has someone inside the Falcone organization already who would flip on them if they could. As they are meeting on the roof, suddenly an object falls from above! It's the penguin, all gift wrapped in ropes for their arresting pleasure.
But speaking of the Falcone family, there has been a shift in dynamics, as Mario has completely shut Sofia out of it! He claims she has used their name for illegitimate activities for too long and he is putting a stop to it, and is even forcing her to stop using the Falcone name. But as Mario shuts her out and Sofia thankfully leaves without shooting him, it seems that Mario is working with a mysterious shadowy benefactor who knows exactly where she will go next.
Tonight is St. Patrick's day and Barbara Gordon and Janice Porter just met in a bar. Barbara, Jim's wife. Not Barbara, Jim's daughter, to make that clear. After we saw Jim and Barbara get back together, it seems they are trying to patch things up. But one thing that is interesting is how Porter shifts the convo over to Gilda Dent and how Barbara was friends with her. She really seems interested in knowing if she is still alive. With the surprise revelation that Porter is with Harvey right now, there isn't a chance that she is...no. She couldn't be Gilda, could she? Stolen identity and a bit of plastic surgery, after seeing her murder there really aren't any lengths she wouldn't go for Harvey, right? But probably not, that's absurd...but still...hmmmm. Either way, Jim interrupted them before they could continue the conversation and then he was interrupted by a very drunk officer Merkel who quickly ran off after remembering his own wife to get home to. As Jim takes a seat and Porter heads off, he starts talking about his old friend Merkel and how he always covered for him and Harvey...oh no...he always covered for them. Jim runs outside but Merkel is no where to be seen.
Suddenly the air is pungent as we jump down to the sewers where Harvey and a bunch of the other rogues have setup shop. Joker is there visiting Harvey and questioning him on all the pawns in play now that "Pengy" has been put on ice, and what Joker can't stand are plans moving around him without being in on the joke. As t he two get into a standoff with their guns place against each other, Harvey beats joker down...remembering back to the time joker broke into his house on Christmas Eve and hurt him. Two-face is in control here and that is how it is staying.
As the issue comes to a close we go to Harvey's former home, to find that Merkel is hanging in the back yard with the deed to Harvey and Gilda's house and a game of bloody hangman pinned to his chest, reading out "A jury of your peers." Batman is on the scene, but suddenly his world lights up as the special task force Jim put together surrounds him and orders him to put his hands in the air. Suspect number one: batman!

I need to see this storyline adapted to film. It has this really cool black and white 'noir' feel to it that suits Gotham and its cast of characters to a T.
