First, I want to say that I love, love LOVE, the cover!
The story took place in the human realm and in Creepy Hollow. The descriptions of the settings and action scenes were more than I could have hoped for, they were so detailed. The way the author described Creepy Hollow, all of beautiful colors,
the tall trees, nature, and paranormal creatures, was very realistic, like Creepy Hollow actually existed. I was super impressed.
The main character is Violet [but goes by the name Vi] She's 17-year-old, whose independent, intelligent, and hardworking. She was in her fifth year in training to become a guardian; she learns to protect humans from the paranormal creatures. It was important to her to graduate at the top of her class, as her mother had done before her. Another significant character is Ryn, who was Vi's competition. Ryan was confident, he knew he was attractive. And then we have Nate, the human boy, who was able to see past Violet's faerie charm while she was battling a creature; protecting him. They end up falling for each other.
The Faerie Guardian is a fast-paced, and action-packed story! It was really captivating story, it really pulls the reader in! I definitely could not stop reading! There were many features that made this story enjoyable. I liked the setting of Creepy Hollow, how the author presented this new world and especially the characters in the story, learning about the many different types of paranormal creatures for example, Faeries, Pixies, Sprites,… etc. I just had to find out what was happening next. I definitely recommend it. Can't wait to read more, from this author.

First off I love the purple cover!!! But the book sort of fell flat for me. Sooooo many people love it and I was loving it in the beginning and then just. . . nothing. I don't know what happened.
I give it three stars for holding my interest in the beginning and I love Violet's character. She's makes a pretty good faerie in training to be a Guardian. She's pretty bad to the bone for being only seventeen but I guess age doesn't really matter in the fae world.
I do have the second book and will read it a little later and see if it doesn't pick up for me. There is nothing worse than liking a character but not loving the book!

"The Faerie Guardian" started off on the wrong foot with me. It's not really the fault of the book or the author. I mean, I'm the one with the thing against first person/present tense presentation. But it is first/present, and I couldn't stop myself from groaning inwardly when I started reading it. And this example is pretty typical of the stuff I've read using first/present, so it did nothing to distinguish itself for me. But, you know, I get that that style is popular, right now, so I can hardly fault the author for choosing the style. I'm just not into it.
So the main character is a "fairie" girl, and I say "fairie" because she's just like a human teenager down to the pop culture references that, as far as I can tell, she shouldn't have knowledge of. In fact, she seems more conversant in pop culture than she does in the culture of her own people. In fact, in her narration she refers to other fairies as "fairies," as in "the fairie stood there," which would be like me saying, "the human stood there," which is not a thing I would ever say nor have I ever heard any human say. Awkward. All of that to say that I had a hard time buying the protagonist as anything more than a human teenager with some convenient magic. And that doesn't even touch that the purple-haired fairie is named Violet.
The other main issue I had with the story also started right up front along with the first/present stuff. Violet is in a boy's room to guard him from a snake fairie thing, and, of course, she sees him sleeping. And, of course, she is smitten by him just from watching him sleeping. Maybe this is just a disconnect because I'm a guy, but the whole romance angle seemed more contrived than realistic to me. There was just no reason for it and it felt out-of-character to for Violet to react that way. I mean, there's no indication that she has a habit of instantly falling in love with sleeping boys, so I need something more from the story than that she arbitrarily had feelings for this one boy because she saw him asleep.
From a technical standpoint, the book was fine, and I can see why people like it (and based on the other reviews, I see that most people do like it); it just didn't appeal to me. The writing is fine. It's well edited. But it's not my story. This is one of those where I can see that it's (probably) good, but I don't like it. This is the first book in the Creepy Hollow series. It is also the introduction of the main character, Violet, of the first trilogy. Violet is a Fae guardian in training and in her last mission she finds a human boy,Nate, that can actually see her and to top that he somehow manages to come with her to the Fae world where no humans are allowed. After that a crazy adventure begins, saving kids, discovering Nate's past and Violets own history in the Fae world are only part of it.
When I think of this book one thing comes to mind: non-stop action. Vi gets into so many adventures/troubles and has to fight her way through them. She is so kick-ass, I truly found her the perfect MC. Also, I fell in love with Ryn, her nemesis, he started out as a simple-minded jackass but ended up being my favourite character of the book.
My only issue was with Nate, Vi's love interest. I found his character a bit simple. I could not, for the life of me, figure out what Vi saw in him, especially since she was pretty awesome herself. I hope we get to see more of him in the future and maybe see another side to his character because so far he's been a bit one dimensional.
So, if you are up for a wild Fae ride, with a lot of magic and crazy situations, like a labyrinth and a Masquerade ball you are in for a treat. Also, I listened to the audiobook for this one and it was great, the narrator did an amazing job.

I had this book recommended by my book bestie. And I wanted to LOVE it. And it was good. But it was also predictable. I was calling things before they happened throughout the book. To save it though, the book did become unpredictable at the end, but it was like the last 20% and that was the best part. Actually I thought the book ended a bit prematurely. And it had all this bonus material at the end, but what I really wanted was more of the book doing what it did in the last quarter. So there was that.
I thought the main character was funny, but I never really bonded with her. I thought her relationship with Nate was a little rushed. And then the relationship that transpired at the end of the book was one I had long waited for, but I was left a little unsatisfied. Actually, when all was said and done I was surprised that I really wanted to keep up with series, because it seemed to get better as it went along. This is definitely a fun read. Well done. And with some great details. A few tweaks and it could be a four star in my book.

The story itself was interesting but it's the writing that put me off. I don't have anything against it being in present first person but for some reason it didn't work that well. It was the story itself that made me read further. Some of the obvious plot holes and stupidity on the mc's part had me rolling my eyes quite a bit but the book still had me surprised towards the end and I'm curious as to what will happen next. One of the bigger problems I had with the book was that I didn't feel connected to anything or anyone. Whether it be that someone was betrayed or someone made up, it didn't matter. In the end books are supposed to make you feel something (imo) and this left me feeling just *meh*.

Protagonista della storia è Violet, una fata forte e determinata, indipendente e intelligente, che ha il compito di proteggere gli umani dalle creature magiche pericolose. Lei ci viene descritta come una fata divertente e forte, che usa le perdite che ha affrontato nella vita come uno strumento per guidarla e renderla più forte e che possiede una forza da non sottovalutare nel mondo Fae. È una ragazza che aspira a diventare un Guardiano, che ha lottato duramente per arrivare dov'è, che ama sentirsi viva quando combatte, e che di certo non desidera assolutamente che un ragazzo umano distrugga da un momento all'altro tutti i suoi sforzi e i sacrifici, tutti i suoi sogni e i suoi piani. Tutti i suoi anni di addestramento non avrebbero potuto prepararla all'incontro con un umano come Nate, e quello che si rivela un errore diventa in realtà qualcosa di inaspettato, avventuroso e pericoloso. Nate è un personaggio divertente ma unidimensionale e non ben definito, che è in grado di vedere oltre il fascino fatato di Violet e che rivela un passato più importante di quanto appare. I like the world building that Morgan has accomplished in this rather short novel. Faerie works kinda like the Tardis, the large training facility is a tree from the outside but once you enter It's just like a regular building, except for the magic clouds in the lobby that is.
Vi is a likeable lead character and Ryn is pretty good as her bad boy nemesis. Nate is less well defined but he really appears off screen for most of the 2nd half of the novel. I'm intrigued to see where the story goes so I'm off to read book 2.

I wasn't sure I was going to get into this one at first, the similarities to the Iron Fey series made it kind of lag for me for awhile. But Vi grew on me, snarky tough-as-nails guardian that she is, and I ended up really liking her in the end.
All of her years of training couldn't have prepared Vi for meeting and falling for the human boy Nate who happens to stumble into the faerie paths. He's not supposed to be there, and it's putting a huge kink in her plans to earn the title of the top guardian in the Guild, but there's just something about him. The more time they spend together, the more the mystery unravels about who he is and what is going on behind the scenes in her own world that she was completely unaware of. Turns out Nate is more than meets the eye, Vi has enemies she never knew about who want to use her special power, and her former best friend-turned- nemesis Ryn may end up being on her side for the long haul.
There were some great action scenes and a lot of original magic elements to this story that I really liked. The fae world Rachel Morgan created was beautiful and captivating, and I liked the Guardian concept because it gave the plot a dangerous edge. I wasn't 100% sold on Nate and Vi together, I mean they are young and just starting out their relationship but I didn't really feel a spark. There was more tension between her and Ryn from the very start, and I found him far more interesting as a character. After the dust settled, I was left very torn over the boys. I hate love triangles, and I don't know where this is headed, but I have a feeling there's more to Nate's actions than we're seeing. I'm still Team Ryn either way, though!
Overall, this was a fun read and I look forward to moving on to book 2 to find out where things go for Vi and the other guardian fae!

Wow! First of all, this is so not my genre. How ignorant of me, assuming all Faerie books would be sweet and girly. How stupid of me as a writer not to consider the possibilities... Rachel I adored this book, devoured it! A very talented author, who works magic with words and scenes. I loved it from page one, action... action.. action... romance... action...romance and some sad and broken scenes, conflict and magic. Everything to keep you on your toes all the way through. I didnt want it to end. I still dont want it to end. Characters were spectacular, the world was amazing. Why I loved this book so so much besides of the obvious mentioned above. I write what I want to read, and here Rachel reminded me of every little element I create to keep readers enticed and begging for more. Well I am begging for more.The plot was brilliantly put together, there was attitude, violence, love, sorrow, guilt and attitude and more attitude. I cannot say enough about this book, just read it!

Such a fun book!I loved the characters,the story,the writing-everything was amazing.The main character,Violet,is very funny and charming.You will love her from the very beginning. The whole world of faeries is extremely well explained and you can immediately imagine it in your head.There are a lot of twists in this book,and one moment that will pretty much make you go:
The thing that blew me away was the fighting.I usually don't enjoy reading fighting parts,I pretty much get bored,but the fighting here is freaking amazing!It was almost like I am fighting the bad guys myself.Loved the fight between Vi and Ryn,that was INTENSE.
I would recommend this book to every fantasy/young-adult lover out here.You won't regret picking this one up.

Vi is a faerie guardian in training, but her skills are put to the test when a routine assignment goes wrong: a human boy can not only see her, but follows her home. Not such a bad predicament? Ah, that's only the beginning. Enter an evil villain who turns out to be a lot smarter than than initially expected (and/or hoped), mysteries from the past, and a kick-butt heroine, and you'll barely be able to catch your breath.
The story quickly drew me in. I'll admit that a few times it was so fast paced that I kinda figured if the main character, Violet, had had--oh, I don't know, enough time for a twenty minute shower--she might have figured out things that were relatively clear to me. There was also a little character inconsistency on her part that did bother me: for someone who was completely centered on being the top of her class, she is pretty easily convinced to break a law...and then go on breaking it again and again and again and then go beyond even that...you catch my drift. You do understand why she did it, but it didn't feel fully convincing to me. Still, it wasn't enough to take away from the enjoyment of the story as a whole.
The story is set up in three parts, reflecting the initial novella serial that preceded this volume. As such, each third of the book has it's own twist and turns / story arc and climax or cliffhanger--though, thankfully, the very end was not a cliffhanger! A fun read, with some deeper themes (forgiveness, trust & betrayal) that make it well worth the time it will take for you to rip through this.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! To be honest, I found the beginning a little slow but Nate's betrayal kicked the story into hyperdrive and that's when I become really engrossed!
Rachel has also managed to capture the 17-year-old perspective. The dialogue is very "teenish" which validates the characters, rather than being annoying. A fantastic debut novel... Moving on to book 2 now!

I’m hooked! Well and truly. Never a dull moment, super creative and intriguing world-building, excellent characters, high stakes, an unexpected plot twist, a snarky kick-butt heroine, swoony boys, and lots and lots of cool magic! Now excuse me, I gotta go dive into book two!!

Book #1 in the Creepy Hollow Series
As we are reading this as a group on our blog, I really didn't have any expectations when I began this book. I loved the new cover but had the old cover on my Kindle since I got it a while back ago and just hadn't read it yet. The new cover is way better than the old FYI. I also haven't read many fairy books which I think helped me a bit because I had nothing to compare it to. I enjoyed the book overall though. The writing style is done well and I love the descriptive nature of some of the scenes. There are several note worthy quotes throughout which are always a plus for any blogger and avid reader and a few funny scenes.
There weren't many typos I saw which is always a plus. The characters are well developed and leave the reader wondering what next and they have depth which I as a reader look for. I am not a fan of characters that are predictable and do the same old thing over and over. These characters never left me hanging or made me feel bored. I liked the setting and the background the author has created with this book. It's original to me and I find that refreshing. One of the best things I noticed about this book is how the author set the book correctly in regards to the age of her characters and what was going on around them. It is a Young adult book/teen book and it reads as such which is great for the author. That doesn't come off that way sometimes.
The only downsides I saw within this book were I had to refrain from skipping ahead a few lines every now and then because it would get a little too descriptive with the surroundings and I had to refrain from doing so. Also the beginning was a little slow for me, but that might be because I'm not as knowledgeable about the fae genre as I should be. Besides that it was a really good read. It was easy to go through and a quick read. So 4 stars out of 5. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Really good! I love stories with faeries and this was a great one. Very interesting ideas about how their world works and the world building was spectacular. It wasn't weird or choppy, it was perfect. I enjoyed the whole story and was excited to finish and start the next book. I did think the story between Violet and Nate could have been developed better, it would have been nice to have more details regarding their interactions. It would have made this a 5 star for me. Just because their relationship happened quickly doesn't mean it needed to feel so rushed and skipped over. The betrayal was fairly obvious, but when it happened it was so tragic. So sad!! And the way it ended...closing one chapter and opening another. It was fabulous!!

I got this book to read on audiobook. The audiobook was decently done but not wonderful. The main heroine has a very chirpy voice which doesn’t match her character all that well. Additionally a lot of the male voices sounded similar (particularly Nate and Ryn).
I really didn’t like the beginning of this book. The story was just too simple and too silly; the beginning is all about Nate following Vi into faerie and getting her into trouble and the chaos that follows when she tries to get him back home. I thought Nate was incredibly unlikable; he came across as selfish and chauvinistic and I truly did not understand what a strong girl like Vi saw in him. I almost stopped listening to this a couple hours in because I just could not stand Nate.
The book got a lot better in the second half when Vi starts to unravel the mystery around Nate’s mom and the strange eye tattoo Nate ends up with. Here we get introduced to a lot more of the politics in Faerie and the story gets tons more interesting. Also Nate gets a lot less page space and Ryn gets a lot more (I loved Ryn).
I absolutely loved Ryn’s character and really loved the dynamic him and Vi had going on. Ryn comes off as a jerk early on, but as you learn the complicated history between him and Vi things get more and more interesting.
In the second half of the book there is a also a lot more discussion about powerful magic items and a plot to collect them and this was very engaging.
The action scenes are well done and I enjoyed most of the characters (except for Nate). In the end this ended up being a decent book despite the rough start.
Overall an okay read that has a lot of fae magic, romance, and action. I would recommend to those who enjoy paranormal YA reads. The book started rough but got better towards the end. I am unsure if I will continue with the series or not; I’ll have to think about it a bit.

This book was a huge let down for me. I saw this while browsing on Overdrive for an audiobook to listen to, and I thought it sounded great. I was very wrong.
I could barely keep focus on this book. The storyline was dull and boring, the characters were boring, and I just couldn't connect to them.
There really was no point to the entire book from what I can see. Everything was just kind of random and all over the place. I also didn't care for any of the characters at all. Violet was annoying, and the instalove in this book killed it for me. It literally revolved around it.
There was also barely any backstory for half of the things they talked about in parts of this book. I just could not understand most of it, but that could be because I kept losing interest.
Overall, I don't think I'll be continuing with this series. I really wanted to love it, but I just didn't... Not much more I have to say about it.

The Faerie Guardian instantly intrigued me with it's beautiful cover and vivid descriptions. I love how immersed I felt in the faerie realm and how the author's writing style seemed to really bring that world to life for me. Of course I always enjoy a spunky strong heroine and Violet filled that role perfectly. Another thing that I liked about the authors writing was that it gave us some back story throughout the book without it ever feeling forced or like a history lesson. I never like giving away too many details about story plots when writing reviews but I will say that I was a bit surprised by some of the things that happened and am anxious to continue the series to find out what is still yet to come. Overall it was a great easy read that I highly recommend!

This book started out alright, but the pace really dragged! I listened to the first half, and it seemed to take forever to get through it, and when I switched to reading it properly it got even worse! Have to say that I did lose interest in this one, and was glad when it was finished.

Advise to myself: Quit reading free digital copies of first books in series. You'll wanna know how it continues and you'll visit Amazon to get those books, even though you had promised to save up some money on your savings account. Did I already tell how incredibly horrible I am with book bans? Well, this is why.
I discovered Rachel Morgan through City of Wishes and I was really curious to see if this book would be just as great. And the answer is yes. I have to admit, after reading the first 100 pages I had a few doubts, especially when it came to the kinda insta-love, but that problem was kinda solved during the rest of the book. I don't wanna spoil anything, but I really enjoyed what Morgan did here!
And although the Fae world isn't as layered and complex as the world in City of Wishes, I really enjoyed the amount of detail Morgan put into bringing this world to life. Her descriptions were vivid and she really thought about everything, from customs, to schools, to houses, to routines and everything. And she also manages to make it seem normal through Violet's eyes, while our world seems so weird.
On top of that there's Morgan's writing style. Her dialogues seem and feel so natural, which is truly a form of art. Morgan's writing style flows very nicely anyway. It's easy to read and it makes it possible to rush through the book while reading every word. Which is nice, because the book is quite addictive, especially because there's so much action in there.
And I might have ordered the paperback with all three stories in it. I can't wait for it to arrive so I can read on!
