When a woman walks into Samantha Sweet’s pastry shop, claiming to have amnesia, it’s a puzzle that seems to have nothing to do with Sam’s new commission for a fantastic one-of-a-kind order of chocolates, although "Jane Doe" seems to know a lot about that. Sam calls Sheriff Beau to solve the mystery of who this stranger is and where she belongs.
But Beau’s attention is occupied by other things: nearly his entire force is out sick with some kind of flu bug, and now a murder far from Taos requires his full attention.
Nothing is fitting together, until suddenly it does. “Jane’s” forgotten memories become vitally important as Beau and Sam work to piece the puzzle together in this latest installment in Shelton’s internationally bestselling series.

* * * USA Today bestseller Connie Shelton is the author of two bestselling mystery series featuring Charlie Parker and Samantha Sweet. She's known for a light touch when it comes to sex and violence in her stories, but is much more lavish with food and chocolate. She and her husband and two dogs live in northern New Mexico. My love of books started with weekly trips to the library as a child and from the moment I learned to read I can't remember a time that I didn't have at least one book going. For the past 25 years, that list has grown to include what I'm reading and what I'm writing at any given time.
I began writing my Charlie Parker series when my husband and I lived on Kauai, then continued them in my home state of New Mexico. Charlie lives in Albuquerque and manages to travel to a variety of locations, wherever her investigation business and her husband's helicopter business take them. My second series featuring Samantha Sweet, the 50-ish woman who breaks into houses for a living, is set in Taos, New Mexico.
In addition to reading and writing, I've traveled quite a lot, taught writing courses, and been a speaker at a whole lot of mystery conventions and writing conferences. In my spare time I also love to paint, draw, cook and spend time at the beach.
What can I say? This series keeps getting better and better. This time we are going to celebrate an anniversary, deal with a woman and the murder of a video game designer. This series is fun to read and even more fun to be able to call the characters friends.
"You never know where fate will take you, she mused, but if you’re open to the possibilities, exciting things really can happen."
This could be the theme of the entire series, as Sam starts her bakery business in her small bungalow kitchen in Taos, New Mexico, and by the end her dream of having a successful bakery has come true.
On June 26, 2018, I started book #1 in the Samantha Sweet mystery series. It was a free book I got from Amazon via BookBub. From then on I couldn't stop reading, paying $4.99 a piece for the rest of the series #2-10 plus the prequel "The Woodcarver's Secret" which I will read next. Assuming that I finish the prequel today (which I have no reason to doubt) I will have read all 11 books in this series in one week at a cost of $49.99! I have never done such a thing before but it was worth every minute and every penny!
Since the last book was published in 2015, I have come to the sad conclusion that there will be no more Samantha Sweet mysteries. I am already in mourning at the loss of the characters, Sam, Beau, Kelly, Zoe, Jen, Becky, Julio, and more.
This book #10 begins with a woman who wanders into the Sweet's Sweets Bakery with several injuries but claiming she not only doesn't remember what happened to her she has no idea who she is. In the meantime a detective in Albuquerque contacts Beau, Sam's husband and the Taos County Sheriff, to do the sad task of notifying next of kin of a man found dead in his hotel room in Albuquerque. How the two plots come together is a masterful piece of writing.
Thank you Connie Shelton for giving me such enjoyment in binge reading this great series. A caveat: I definitely recommend reading the series in order.
UPDATE: Just discovered this was NOT THE END OF THE SERIES! Moving on to #11 (I've just finished The Woodcarver's Secret, the series prequel). Yay!
A good story that made me hungry as I read - it's set in and around a pastry shop. One day a middle aged woman stumbles into the shop who claims she can't remember her name. Truth or lie? Her identity is not found because she has no identification. Samantha (pastry shop owner) takes responsibility for the woman so she won't get lost and get hurt any more than she already is. With the help of her husband the Sheriff they begin to unravel a mystery of who their amnesia victim is and then a bigger mystery once her name is known. As the clues point to everyone and everyone seems guilty they soldier on to find the solution.
If you don't read the book you may just want to read the chapter headings from The mixed p Files of Tlly Adams Journal, I truly looked forward to starting a new chapter just to find out what Tilly's newest addition was to her journal!
I had a few problems with this one. The guy offered her $200 for making all those chocolates. She only accepted $100. Even if she hadn't paid the hotel bills for Jane Doe, the supplies she would need to make the chocolates and the time it would take would be worth lots more than that. The whole subplot with her daughter and the mystery man was anticlimactic and seemed to serve no purpose at all.
There are also some major plot holes. The biggest unanswered question for me is I was also shocked that she got so careless with the "magic box." She starts out keeping it in a safe and ends up with it loose in her delivery van? Do we even know where it ended up?
Samantha Sweet is enjoying her marriage to Beau and the success of her bakery business. Then a woman walks in to her bakery with no memory. The woman has a talent with chocolate and is able to help Sam with chocolate orders. At the same time Beau gets drawn in to a murder investigation. I was pretty sure who the woman would turn out to be, and I was right. It was an enjoyable listen even if a little a little predictable.
A woman who has temporarily lost her memory walks into Sam’s bakery. While waiting for her husband, who is also the police chief, to come to the bakery to talk to the woman, the woman volunteers to help with a batch of chocolates Sam is making for a special order. There is no doubt the woman has talent and Sam needs help.
This is definitely not my favorite in this series! Sam is surprisingly bitchy; she's constantly thinking uncharitably towards "Jane," and then she's childishly sniping at Beau. The main mystery is convoluted enough to hold attention, but the finale is ridiculous, and the micro-mystery regarding Sam's daughter is pointless.
I just finished all of the books in this series—where do I go now. I want more 😀😀. I also read her Charlie Parker series and couldn’t put them down. Well, on too find a new series.
Every book I think is the best and then the next one comes out and wows me. This book has many things taking place throughout the story. Read to find out the mysteries, mayhem, hostage, rescue and love.
Loved the fast moving pace of this book, but there were certain areas that were so blatantly clear. Also some of the characters were just unbelievably silly. But it was a quick read.
Enjoyed this read..the last 2 books in this series, but they haven't downloaded properly and I'm only getting the title page and then it say a I'm done .I think maybe I have been.
This is the latest offering from author Connie Shelton in the Samantha Sweet series, and is just as good as the rest of the series. In this one, both Beau and Sam have their hands full with seemingly unrelated mysteries... Sam has a woman turn up at her shop who is suffering from amnesia while Beau is dealing with a murder case in nearby Albuquerque that is of a Taos businessman. Unfortunately, the police are having a difficult time locating the man's wife, who appears to be missing. It isn't until the funeral that they discover that the missing woman and the amnesia victim are one and the same. Has she been faking amnesia to avoid being arrested for her husband's murder, or is she also a victim of the murderer who they are having a difficult time uncovering? The ending is quite dramatic and a little shocking. But it's all quite good. Now I just can't wait for the next book to be released!
I have enjoyed all the Samantha Sweet books, but in SWEETS FORGOTTEN, Connie Shelton has outdone herself! The mysteries contained in this book were better than ever-many more twists and surprises! While the famous box was downplayed in this book, it was mentioned just enough that the intrigue of it was teasing the reader. Although I suspected part of the mystery's conclusion, there was so much more! You really need to read all the books in the series to appreciate every detail and nuance that are used, but even if you start here, you will have a darn good mystery to enjoy, and plenty of opportunities to crave chocolates or some other decadent bakery treat! I recommend all of Connie Shelton's books as great reads, good mysteries, and just plain fun!
Sam and Beau are approaching their one year anniversary and you guessed it....murder gets in the way. One of the local very rich gets himself murdered in Albuquerque so Beau is enlisted to help solve the case. In the meantime Sam has a bit of a mystery of her own to deal with. A young woman shows up early in the morning all disheveled with cuts and bruises and doesn't have a clue who she is. Sam being Sam decides to help her Jane Doe and the story takes off from there. And as always the carved box is in the story but in this one plays a lesser role.
I am always completely entertained by Ms Sheldon's stories and have read all the Charlie Parker and Samantha Sweets mysteries. They are light reading who done it's but always a great read.
Beau and Samantha are on different ends of a mystery, when a woman stumbles into her bakery with no memory. And, Beau is asked to help in the murder investigation of the same woman's death. When the woman regains her memory, its clear some one is trying to cause her harm but the reasons are unclear. Samantha sees the woman as a victim, while Beau sees her as a suspect. It takes a hostage situation for the truth to be reveal and for Samantha to hold it together long enough for Beau to rescue them. Its a mystery that keeps the pages turning, as the reader tries to figure out if the woman is in fact a victim or a murderer.
I loved Sweets Forgotten. Samantha Sweet books always draw me in and every book seems to get better. I think that is because the characters have become so real to me, and each story is fresh and exciting. Connie Shelton knows how to create a compelling plot while building a daily life for her characters that make me feel part of their lives. I adore Samantha and have such a crush on her now husband! The touches of love the we see make their romance beautiful without crossing any lines. This is a series that I can reread to visit old friends and still enjoy the twists of the mysteries.
I've really enjoyed both of Connie Shelton's mystery series. I can't decide which is my favorite which is a good thing. Sweets Forgotten is an engrossing mystery filled with likable characters . I just spent a relaxing Sunday morning reading and couldn't put it down until I finished. I really like cozy mysteries like this with an intelligent heroine who isn't TSTL. Refreshing and entertaining!
Absolutely loved this book and the entire series. The first book is really good and totally sets up every book that follows. Don't know when I've read a series like this where each book just gets better and better.Like an obsession, you'll want to read the next one. Read the synopsis for the plot, just know once you begin you'll be hooked. This is a 5+++ series!
Connie Shelton creates a story that mixes murder & intrigue while showing us the deepening love Sam & her husband Sheriff Beau Cardwall have for each other as they come up on their 1 year anniversary. Then sprinkle in just a little bit of the supernatural with the mysterious power-giving box & you get another great Samantha Sweet read.
Beau is looking for a killer, while Sam is surprised when a woman claiming amnesia shows up in her store. While all this is going on, daughter Kelly has a mystery man in her life and Sam is afraid she know who it is. This is a fantastic book and I couldn't put it down!
Connie Shelton has given her readers another royal winner
I thought that Book #9 was well done and deserved accolades. It does, but Sweets Forgotten shook me from head to twinkling toes. She became a super lady of suspense, mysteries and a darn good writer.
I love Connie Shelton's Sweets series. The mystery plots are sometimes a little bit thin, but the descriptions of the bakery and its operations make me want to find one and get a job there.
