(Arabic: جوزيف ميرفي)
Joseph Murphy was a Divine Science minister and author.

Murphy was born in Ireland, the son of a private boy's school headmaster and raised a Roman Catholic. He studied for the priesthood and joined the Jesuits. In his twenties, an experience with healing prayer led him to leave the Jesuits and move to the United States, where he became a pharmacist in New York (having a degree in chemistry by that time). Here he attended the Church of the Healing Christ (part of the Church of Divine Science), where Emmet Fox had become minister in 1931.

In the mid 1940s, he moved to Los Angeles, where he met Religious Science founder Ernest Holmes, and was ordained into Religious Science by Holmes in 1946, thereafter teaching at the Institute of Religious Science. A meeting with Divine Science Association president Erwin Gregg led to him being reordained into Divine Science, and he became the minister of the Los Angeles Divine Science Church in 1949, which he built into one of the largest New Thought congregations in the country. In the next decade, Murphy married, earned a PhD in psychology from the University of Southern California and started writing. After his first wife died in 1976, he remarried to a fellow Divine Science minister who was his longstanding secretary. He died in 1981.

I downloaded this from Audible, only to realize, I had already read (listened) to the original edition.

I was so glad to hear it again. This book should be mandatory life reading for all humans.

The description sounds a bit woo-woo, but it's really very scientific. In it, Dr. Murphy encourages readers to tap into our wildly underutilized power of changing thought patterns and habits, so that they can become second nature (adopted as truth by the subconscious mind). Every time I put these principles into action, my life changes for the better.

The book was written a long time ago, and some might find the language to be a little outdated, but I found it charming. In this edition, there are a few chapters at the end, written by a contemporary author, C. James Jensen, which was a nice way to solidify the message.

There are a few books that I try to reread every year. After this re-listen, it has earned a permanent spot on that list.

His commentary at the end made the rest of the book worth the read. The beginning of the book is the 1960s text of "The Power of Your Subconscious Mind" by Dr. Murphy. Sure, I have been reading this book for years, but, I like his spin on things though. I like it a lot. His simple notes clarify and enlighten a lot of things about that book.

If you already read Power of Your Subconscious Mind book by Joseph Murphy then there's no need to read this one. C. James Jensen didn't really expand anything and you won't gain anything by reading this.
But if you didn't read Power of Your Subconscious Mind then you can go through this without going through original book since original book is in this already.

Let’s talk about a good book. Expand the Power of your Subconscious Mind, by Joseph Murphy., in this book, he claims that all of your life experiences are a result of the interaction between your conscious and subconscious mind
: Your subconscious mind creates your life experiences according to your conscious thoughts and ingrained beliefs Joseph Murphy says that you can dramatically improve your life experiences by using your conscious mind to imprint positive thoughts and beliefs upon your subconscious mind.
Joseph Muphy explains how your subconscious learns from your thoughts to influence your feelings and behaviors. He also explains how you’re designed to experience happiness because you have an inbuilt connection to a higher power.
He clarifies your conscious thoughts create negative experiences in your life. The more you read the book the more he helps you to become more positive in your life.
according to Murphy, your mind is made up of two parts: the conscious mind and the subconscious mind. He explains that your conscious mind is your active mind
. It contains all of your thoughts and feelings that you’re aware of at any given moment. You use it to judge your environment and make choices and decisions based on these judgments.
Your subconscious mind is your passive mind. It’s always awake because it regulates all of your body functions, and it records and stores your every experience even when your are not paying attention.
Over 90% of your brain’s activity takes place in your subconscious mind: It’s a reservoir of thoughts, feelings, and memories that lies between your conscious awareness. The more often you think certain thoughts, the heavier the impression you leave on your subconscious mind. According to Joseph Murphy, the way your subconscious thoughts imprint upon and mold your subconscious mind determines your personality traits and how you respond to your life experiences this is because your thoughts train your subconscious mind to create associations and shortcuts between all of the thoughts, feelings, and experience it has stored. I would rate this book 4 stars I really liked this book because It has taught me to be more positive than negative and that being more positive can help you through tough times.

Our mind is divided into three parts: the conscious, the subconscious and the supra-conscious. This book delves into the power of these hemispheres and how you can use them to make your live to the best to its ability. Apart of the reference of the Bible and convincing via the verses of the bible it did a great job of covering topics pertaining to our mind and how we we have the power to train our minds.

This book is a gem that you should not only read more than once but also refer to on the need be basis. For example, there is a chapter of Fear and Anxiety and how to help combat it with the help of mediation. The subconscious and its importance are discussed in grave detail. Furthermore, there is a section on tapping into the Supra-conscious and the strategy to tap into its strengths.

The power of our sub conscious mind is profound. The techniques shared in this book are worth trying and seeing for yourself. You can change your reality by tapping into your sub conscious and undoing habits that pull you down.

I really took my time in reading this book. I wanted to savor every concept and grasp vital information shared.

I really enjoyed this book!

Powerful book!! Largest take away is the metaphor of the captain and the crew in relation to the subconscious mind. The author talked about how the conscious mind is like a captain of a ship, and the subconscious mind is the crew where in essence the crew simply does -it doesn’t think about the positive or negative ramifications of what it’s doing or the conscious minds perception of its plausibility - it’s like a yes, man and will do what the captain says. For example, if the captain says, I’m worried about the outcome of my math test; your subconscious mind will take the route that accomplishes the captains visions: beliefs and feelings. If you go into the test with the firm and clear mindset that you will succeed, and that you are capable of achieving 100% on the examination, your subconscious mind will accomplish the captains wishes / directions.

Essentially, you already have the answers - it’s just a matter of believing in the outcome and through repetition of those beliefs that will harness your own reality< which is pretty cool

#21 of 100 self help books
One of the finest books I had ever read
Here are 3 lessons to help you tap into the unconscious part of your mind:

Use visualization as a way to exploit the placebo effect in your favor.

If you can’t decide between several options, give yourself a night to sleep over it.
Make a sincere effort to wish well for others, because envy only gets in your own wayFor any book that’s over 50 years old, it’s important to consider the context of its time. In this case, the book goes a bit overboard with what we can realistically expect to be possible from visualization. The law of attraction is real, but only works if you do too. That said, with a bit of distance, you can pick up several useful ideas from The Power Of Your Subconscious Mind

Physical inertia favors mental passivity and renders the mind more receptive to suggestion.

Busy your mind with the concepts of harmony, health, peace, and good will, and wonders will happen in your life.

Excellent book ! Human wisdom builds with age, but it has costs that everyone would like to avoid. Such a book, read on time, helps you understand how you can build your own life in a healthy, harmonious and sustainable way, reducing costs. This is useful, because life is too short to enjoy the fruits of wisdom built on your own experiences.
It is easy to read, easy to understand, convincing through the naturalness with which the ideas are transmitted and the feeling of goodwill that seems to transcend the writing. It has a slight ballast of examples and over-arguments that lose their relevance through crowding, but which can be easily overcome. On the other hand, it is very efficient by summarizing the ideas at the end of each chapter and presenting them in a clear form. In conclusion, it is worth not only reading but keeping close, like a teacher of wisdom, who will tell you how to live your life beautifully.

część pierwsza składająca się z oryginalnej treści autorstwa Josepha Murphyego pomimo upływu lat wciąż potrafi przekazać wiedzę i pozwolić lepiej poznać samych siebie. upływ lat czasami czuć po języku, który bywa momentami specyficzny, oraz po w pewnym sensie mentalności autora, który niczym prorok objawia kolejne prawdy. momentami ta część podchodziła pod pseudonaukę, momentami pod religijny przewodnik, jednak sama treść i wnioski jakie z niej płynęły są dość uniwersalne. natomiast druga część mająca jedynie ok. 100 stron to trafne komentarze i rozwinięcie nauk przez C. James Jensena, który prostym językiem "aktualizuje" i pomaga głębiej zrozumieć nauki doktora Murphyego już bez otoczki mającej charakter wiedzy objawionej, bardziej w formie przystępnego poradnika. pierwszej części daje 4 gwiazdki, drugiej 5, więc średnio 4,5.

I took a break after going through half this book and found myself unable to pick this up again and complete it. this makes it slightly better than books which I actively chucked aside, such as Harari's Sapiens, but other than that, I do not have anything positive to say about this. I might try to come back to it later next year, but ideally, sanity will prevail, and I will try to let a sunk cost be.

Boring, badly written, outdated. The value of nudging your conscious and subconscious mind is immense, and there are excellent resources out there to consult for the same. For science related nudges, Andrew Huberman's podcasts are a great place to start. For mindfulness, give Sam Harris' products a shot.

This is a great straight forward almost “textbook” if you will on the subject of consciousness. Unlike some other popular authors, I don’t feel bias, or ego in the book. It’s pretty straightforward and elementary (in a good way)

Great teachings and wisdom in this book. However, once you have the main principle down, it's lots of repetition on methods of practice. Still though, great book, definitely worth a read!
