He owned the streets. And now he wanted to own her body.
Antonio Del Marco, head of the notorious and feared Del Marco Clan. Notorious gangster. Infamous mob boss.
And, as Emma Harper quickly learns, her stepbrother.
Emma had grown up an orphan, heartbroken over the emptiness of having no family to call her own. Then one day a mysterious letter arrives, hinting at her true origins. Stunned and curious about finding potential family, she answers the letter.
Except now, she wishes she hadn’t.
Because now she knew the truth. The lethal and brutal Antonio Del Marco was her older stepbrother and now as a Del Marco herself, she fell under Antonio’s command. She now had obligations as a Del Marco to fulfill which included being married off to a complete stranger. Protest as she might, Antonio was going to make damn sure she did as she was told.
He was going to make her bend. She was going to fight back.
The spark was lit. The fire had caught.
Who would burn?
**This is a standalone adult romance that has explicit sexual content.
This romance story has so much more than what I was expecting, I admit I kind of downloaded thinking I would get some down and dirty bad mobsters sex with the hot stepbrother. What I received was an endearing background story of family, love & wrong doings that I am going to keep a secret as I do not want to ruin this for you. You get it all in this romantic tale, if you love mob romance stories along with some great past hurts, strong stubborn men and mystery you will really enjoy reading this. It was a perfect length, I did not feel rushed and felt content as I learnt all about Antonio and Emma and was happy with the ending.
We get varied points of view at parts of the story which I believe was really smart by the author, it helped me connect to both Antonio and Emma as a love interest, there were other characters namely the family lawyer who knew family background history who I thought too provided great connections to link both Antonio and Emma and help them remember their pasts. I admit I am a big pushover and softened toward Antonio once I found out what parts he had played in Emma's life.
Antonio's character although brutish at the start turned quickly into the stepbrother that Emma probably always wanted and needed in her life.
We also get the usual mob danger, backstabbing, tantrums and above all else old fashioned passion and humour.
I devoured this, did not want to put it down - it was a fantastic read.
No real development between characters and Emma turned her mind around real quick. Tony was just a blah character I mean seriously Spolier Alert (what man makes the girl he wants marry another)
The only reason this got two stars it because when it was good, it was good - trouble is it was all a little rushed and highly disappointing, even more disappointing as there was a ton of potential!
Love the story. It was quick paced and kept me engaged. I read it on the train to and from work and couldn't wait to get back to it after dinner. I loved that Antonio had all these different aspects to his personality and that he could keep them all so separate. the characters were interesting and easy to relate to. They both fought their preconceived notion of the other and became better for it.
I was thoroughly enjoying this book when it abruptly ended at 74%. It's wasn't some technical flaw in my device, the book was wrapped up and ended and I was like "Whoa!" because I didn't see it coming. The remaining 26% was ANOTHER book, part one, of course. I think I paid only 99¢ for it, guess I should have paid 74¢.
I was fortunate enough to receive a copy of this story as an ARC. It is not your usual kind of romance. The drama and suspense in this book keep you from putting this story down. I can honestly say, there were a few twists I did not see coming. I have just become a fan of Gangster Romance.
This book didn't flow for me. It was short and it was difficult to see the chemistry between the two main characters. I felt overall there was potential in the storyline, but in the end it was not well written.
All three stories were great but I have to say I liked the last two stories better then the first story. The characters and the storyline just grabs you and pulls you in I couldn't put it down. I definitely recommend this book.
The plot and cover drew me in, but it wasn't enough to keep my interest. I loved the family background, but present day Antonio was a really flat character and the ending was way too rushed. *only 32% of the 600+ pages was the story Taken, in case it matters to anyone.
