Right Beside You by A.B.Lee.
When neither Malachi Murdoch or his beta brother Dempsey want to challenge for the place of Alpha after their Uncle dies, it's left to their cousin Jason, who is more than willing to take it on.
Malachi is a true Alpha while Jason is just acting out the title. The way he handles The Pack is changing it, it doesn't feel the same anymore. It's not home. He's brought in outsiders to act as enforcers for him, enforcers that aren't far from being rogue themselves and are only there for the money. Pack members have been beaten and killed under his rule, and it's getting worse.
So Winnie the Witch comes to a decision and calls the spirits for help. Unfortunately, just as she is casting her spell, she's found and one swipe of a claw ensures it's her last spell. The only good thing is that her spell called for a sacrifice, the spilling of fresh blood, and that's something that's just been given in abundance. The person she needs to call to come to the packs rescue will have heard.
Dempsey Murdoch and his mate are already living up with the mountain pack. Malachi has been going to visit them often but now made the decision to go and join them permanently. Talia, Winnie's young protege, wants revenge for her mentor's death. Robert the vampire is incensed when he finds out that his old friend Winnie is dead and is out for blood. As is Malachi, when he finds Jason's beta, Cartright, beating a young woman in Winnie's old shop. A woman that turns out to be his mate! Chastity wants vengeance for her father's death and finds herself a mate in the process. And there's another vampire in town, one they didn't even know about. But who's who and whats what? Only time will tell.
The only thing I found disappointing with this book is that it didn't say anything about what exactly the great plan of Jason's was! It kind of left it a bit flat for me. It gave it a lot of build up and placed such big importance on it, but then at the end of it- nothing! I felt like saying "umm...yeah... and...?"
It's unusual for me to not be entertained by one of A.B.Lee's books, but while I read this on kindle unlimited, this isn't a book that I'll be adding to my own collection. However, it doesn't mean that I won't still be reading the next I see!
