The Unspoken Abuse

Rate this book
She came across as a settled person who loved her family, but there was just something that she seemed to be holding back on. I couldn’t put my finger on it, but hey, who was I to question her? A heart-breaking true story of misplaced trust and horrific abuse. Edward Charles thought he knew the woman he married. He thought he understood her, and that he had saved her from a maniacal man that made her life a misery. He thought he was her hero, but she wasn’t the one that needed saving. Edward was a career-driven man when he met Angie. She was going through personal trauma and leant on Edward for support, which he was all too happy to give. They fell in love and began a happy life together. But their fairytale didn’t continue that way as, during a life- changing night, Angie put out a cigarette on Edwards wrist. This event marked the beginning of his painful life of secret abuse. Edward writes with a colloquial and readable style that reaches the audience on a personal level, making his experiences approachable whilst keeping the reality and gravity of the abuse central to his story. Readers of A Child Called It series and The Murder of Jeffery Dryden will discover another horrendous secret world, and the heart-rending story of the extraordinary person who suffered it. Edward’s hellish journey, not only through what his wife forced upon him, but through the difficulty he faced in obtaining help from the authorities, shows true determination and raises a real issue that often remains unnoticed and unacknowledged. Edward has taken part in radio interviews on the issue of male domestic violence, and hopes his story will instil courage and hope in others who may still be suffering in silence. Children are being used as weapons against fathers and mothers who love them very much. Message from the When an abuser leaves you with scars on your body, they can heal. Sadly the mental abuse leaves scars that are allot harder to recover from. Recovery can take years and in some cases, the victim never recovers. Authorities need to wake up, men can be victims of domestic abuse also. They can also face an uphill battle when it comes to contact with their children. Parental alienation should be outlawed. Once more the law has let the victim down. I would like to point out, if this book was fictional why would I write it? Yes it might not be the works of Shakespeare but truth is truth and no one person can hide that! Thank you everyone who have offered all their kind and positive words of support via reviews and twitter. For everyone else thank you for taking the time to express your thoughts. Edward Charles

Written from the heart

The author of this book was undoubtedly like a lamb to the slaughter at the hands of this woman . She appears to collect husbands from her workplace at the drop of a hat ensuring that once she tires of a relationship ,she has a replacement waiting in the wings. The author was naive and should have read the warning signs as she showed a conniving side to her character early on . It takes a great deal of courage to stand up to a very convincing liar and a manipulative one at that . However, children are not stupid and the author's daughter will not forget her kindly dad and I have no doubt that he will rekindle a loving relationship with her in the years to come . Women are treated more favourably in relationship breakdowns by the courts and each case should be treated on its merits irrespective of gender. This woman is clearly very calculating the fact at the beginning of the book she introduced the author as Teddy to her son as a cover up in case her son mentioned playing with him to her then husband . Would anyone less calculating think of that . What a clever ploy ..... I've been playing with Teddy instead of the reality of I've just met mum's new boyfriend !!! As for the new boyfriend , good luck to him because leopards don't change their spots and no doubt she will be as quick to trade him in for a new model as she has done in the past ....

All totally unfair to you Edward

Women should not get away with abusing their husband, my husband and myself were both in abusive marriages, my husband was hospitalised with a fractured skull, he did not report his wife!! If men don't speak up this abuse will sadly continue, no man or woman has any right to abuse their partner, or cause their children abusive behaviour, like yourself Edward we think things will get better, WRONG it gets worse, the legal system needs to wake up and address these situations differently, I admire you for fighting the system, I wish you all the best for your future happiness and hoping you find peace as we have. God bless you AliceBooth9@gmail.com xxx

The Unspoken Abuse. by Edward Charles.
A story of manipulation by a cunning woman who knew how to play the victim ... lies .. deceit ... And worse physical and mental abuse of her partner.
Easy to say why not get yourself out of the situation .... not so easy when you have seen the kind side of these people and you are in love! ... it can happen to both males and females ... just that people can’t see how a male could be copping abuse from a female .. yes it can and will happen just not as common as a female getting abused!
To be critical of the book would be to say it may have been written too soon .... there is no final judgement being ruled on the the abuse ... it finishes on a open end. But in saying this it does give a insight in the plight of a abused man!

REFRESHING!

Such a powerful read and it's such a shame that this is the first book re female to male abuse I've ever seen and read. I too was a victim of domestic violence from a male towards female however the patterns described in this book are almost identical. What an incredibly brave person to have written their story. Thank you so much for sharing and I wish you lots of Happy and good health for the future.

My Heart is crying for you

I believe every word Edward has spoken is absolutely the truth and I think the injustice shown to him as a man is absolutely horrendous. Why does society still believe that domestic violence only happen to females. I hope Edward and Faith finally get a life together before Faith gets much older and that this horrendous person gets what she truly deserves not to be believed and Dougal gets a better life with out all the cruel manipulationi

What a fantastic book, couldn't put it down read all last night. Tragic story of a man & daughter abused by his partner & having to suffer the consequences of making these accusations because people including the authorities & the police would not believe him at first. Would definitely recommend this book as it highlights the fact that not only women get abused.

Courts that are biased for a paycheck.

Excellent book . Not only does the UK have a problem but so does the US. I could share stories of the shame of our courts, social services etc...

Slightly Boring

I love books like this normally but this one is a hard read. I tried skipping pages to see if it got any better, unfortunately it did not. It was cheap to read for a reason.

Men used to be called Hen Pecked or Under her Thumb!

Growing up in 50/60's men
were Hen Pecked or Under Her Thumb recalling them, their abuse would not surprise me now. How very timid they were even to a child's eyes when their wife spoke sharply!

Shocking

A real eye opener into what really goes on. Such an injustice. In this day and age you would expect equal rights.

Where should I begin with this book? I have not previously engaged with this genre, which addresses the topic of domestic abuse. However, I find it both captivating and poignant. I have read several other reviews where some women engage in victim-blaming, suggesting that the victim should have taken certain actions. It prompts me to consider the scenario in which the victim is a woman; in that case, people often question why she does not leave or take specific steps. Overall, this book is certainly worthwhile to read. The story involves domestic abuse towards men and abuse of children, as well as authorities’ refusal to accept men can be victims of domestic abuse just as much as women are.

I'm glad Edward Charles wrote this book. Abuse whether by male or female is intolerable and should be given a voice and taken seriously. However, I felt as if I were reading a Police Statement. It was stilted and in parts, repetitive. My interest seriously waned towards the end. But if this helps any other males feel able to come forward then its worth it.

A down right travesty!!!!

I cannot put into words, the depth of my feelings, whilst reading this book!
My heart wrenches for Edward, Faith and Dougal, how the law can overlook this abuse is beyond belief!!!
I hope and pray you get the justice you deserve Edward, and the children too.
Faith will always love her daddy, the truth will come out, stay strong and keep the FAITH X

I just can not believe how much you have suffered by such an evil manipulated women. And come out the other side. You truly are an inspiration to all men that have suffered this kind of abuse. An absolutely truly touching account of one man's fight for survival.
