A Norse army surrounded in a last stand upon a lonely hill in the depth of night, doomed to annihilation. Ulfrik Ormsson is trapped with them, and only his desperate plan holds any chance for escape.
Horns blare, swords flash, and axes raise in a torrent of chaos and violence. Ally and enemy alike clash in the madness of battle.
Ulfrik and his sons carry the fury of the Norsemen to the encircling Franks. When the sun rises only one side will claim victory.
Witness the life of Ulfrik Ormsson. Stand with him at the birth of Normandy and beyond, and follow him into the shieldwall in this final volume of the series.
And so the seven book saga of Ulfrick Ormsson has come to a close and left me feeling both triumphant and hollow. I already miss falling asleep at night to a world in which Ulfrick exists and ever battles against turmoil for glory and plunder.
If you've read my reviews of the previous books you'll no doubt know that I love these books and the finale is no exception. My one gripe is that this book went on five chapters too long. After Ulfrick is victorious one last time the book should've ended. However it creeps on summarizing the elderly Ulfrick's final years which I found boring and stupid. I feel it detracts from the ending and is unnecessary. I also beg Jerry Autieri to write many more books following Ulfrick's descendants. No, I demand it!
These books are all around really great and are a true literary adventure!
Actually really liked this whole series, great for any one who is interested in our history when times we all about Gold and Glory. Or even if you just want a change up from what you regularly read, this is a good choice.
Not since I was a teen have I read so many books in a series. I thoroughly enjoyed each and every book. I just could not stop reading them and hated when real life got in my way of being able to sit down and read. I love how much history is involved with each book and how the author takes the time to educate the reader on the past. Thank you Jerry for a fantastic series!! Now, one to the next!
I have now finished reading all seven of this saga. Self Isolating has its benefits. All seven books are full of action and twists that make them difficult to put down. They build you up and then chop the legs out from under you before building you up again! Highly recommended. Enjoy and keep safe.
The series is absolutely brilliant. Action packed throughout. Could not put these books down. Devastated that the series has concluded. Eagerly awaiting further amazing work from this author. Thank you.
Hero had life worse than Jobe from the bible character but I really enjoyed all 7 books Somehow he got through it all Thank you Jerry for writing them . ☺
This final book in the series might be considered the best. In one sense it is a happy ending, but above all it is the completion of a good story with meaningful placement in the history of the tenth century and the end of the Viking age.
After finishing this book, I cannot believe that I've come to the conclusion of Ulfrik's adventures! This was such a magnificent, sweeping saga; and I enjoyed it tremendously! Thank you for the gift of these books!
