The current fitness and training industry is drowning in misguided and wrongful information - especially when it comes to exercising your heart. Many "so-called" experts (particular those fond of strength training) have a tendency to look down or even ridicule running, skiing, biking etc. and proclaiming that all you need is to get your heart rate up by lifting weights faster! This is not only wrong but also a problem potentially carrying severe health consequences. The scientific literature is very clear when it comes to the effects of lifting weights on the cardio-vascular system and particularly the heart may not show the desirable adaptations you want if you negate REAL targeted cardio-vascular training!
It is time to set the record straight. It is time to debunk the myth of adequately stimulating your cardio-vascular system by lifting weights faster and its time to bury the myth about having a high heart rate is enough to call an exercise or activity "cardio"!
This book does just that! Get the science of your cardio-vascular system and how it is affected by lifting weights! Get applicable knowledge that you can apply immediately with yourself and your clients! And most importantly, get the scientific ammunition to destroy these fallacies of fitness once and for all!
I was one of the first people my good friend Kenneth ever sold a Kettlebell to in Denmark, must have been 15-20 years ago, back when Kenneth Trained elite swimmers and held RKC workshops.
Back then we both trained elite athletes (I have been out of that game for 10+ years, and embarished to say I haven’t trained myself for 7 years) for about a decade we had weekly debates about training.
In 2021 I want to get into better shape (my shape had become horrible), so what would be more natural than to start with Kenneth’s book.
This book is the best on cardiovascular training there is, but it’s a tiny bit to cardiovascular biased for my taste personally... it’s still an absolute must read for any cardiovascular athlete though.
If you want to further condence it: - Aerobic/Cardio training is needed for everybody - Strength training is no replacement for Aerobic/Cardio training - The best excercises for Aerobic/Cardio training are Running, Cycling XC skiing, rowing etc (strength circuits are inferior)
Big part of the book was abstracts of scientific studies and then the authors interpretation (saying the same with other or similar words) or his critisism.
For this kind of training (distance running especially) the best book is still: Daniels' Running Formula by Jack Daniels
