Fallon is the definition of a woman with her “ish” together. Flourishing business, a home of her own in a new city, a relationship on the verge of marriage, and the opportunity to create a life that looks exactly as she wants it. She’s ready, and willing, to embark on a new adventure. She just didn’t expect to have to do it on her own. Business is great, but the home? A total mess. The relationship? Dead in the water. The “new adventure”? Looking more like a disaster. Until Sean. With their shared track record of betrayal and broken hearts, it may be better to stay away, but neither of them can resist. Even their contentious first meeting can’t hide the spark of attraction, and that spark leads to a deeper involvement than either of them is sure they’re ready for. But love doesn’t wait until you’re ready— it blooms in its own time. That’s just the way love goes.
The Way Love Goes was probably the cutest and sweetest book in this series. There was a lot less emotional drama and, Lord knows, I needed a break from that. Fallon and Sean had you rooting for them from the moment they met. They each went through heartbreaking issues in their past relationships we can all relate to. I loved the vulnerability Sean displayed. We don't see that with a lot of black male characters. They had a few trust hurdles to get over but, as always, love won in the end. Fallon and Sean have easily become my second favorite couple in this series. Sorry Roman and Simone. I absolutely adored Fallon's family! They stole the book! "Mind. Your. Business." Ms. Anita was hilarious! Dancing Azz Donnie is the brother we all deserve. And, that plot twist with Ray and Olivia?!!! Mind blown! 🤯🤯🤯 The Way Love Goes is definitely a book for the grown and sexy. I highly recommend it.
This was such a fun read! Fallon is fresh off a breakup when she moves to Mahogany Heights. Fallon was under the impression that her boyfriend was moving with her, but quickly realized that he wouldn't be coming, on top of that fact that he'd been cheating on her their entire relationship.
Stuck with a fixer upper home, Fallon is quickly thrown off when she meets Sean, the contractor for her renovations. Sean is a divorcee who was also betrayed by a cheating wife. It's obvious that the two have that in common, but I loved seeing them both open up to love and affection again after swearing they wouldn't go down that path again.
While this was a fun and sexy read, of course CCJ threw in some heavier topics that the couple had to deal with, but it was done in a way that felt natural to the story, and not used as a plot device. These two just needed to pull their heads out their behind, and realize that while it may have seemed fast, their connection was very real. Fallon and Sean deserved a partner who loved and appreciated them completely!
TROPES: black romance/OWN voices; BIPOC; love after heartbreak; lingerie designer/store owner (heroine); contractor/constructor hero; great friend group/side characters
TRIGGER WARNINGS: cheating (not between H/h); heroine diagnosed with uterine fibroids (seen on page, has to undergo surgery to remove them)
I enjoyed Fallon and Sean. Two broken hearted people whom deserved honesty and respect and true love.
Fallon was a better woman than me bc I would've beat the brakes off her ex, Ray. Not only did he let her uproot her whole life to a new city, one where she had no friends or family, for him and he cowardly tells her over the phone that he isn't moving...say what now🤨. Yeah, I would've been on the first flight back to Chicago and some furniture would've been moving in light of my wrath to get to him. He was a weak man. He knew what he was doing and led her on as if THEY were going to start over, THEY were going to renovate the new home purchased, THEY were going to build on the careers they had and THEY were going to get married. He didn't have them or her in mind with the move yet and still, he let her move and get all settled in, then bailed. What kind of beta male crap is that😒. Even in all that, Fallon took the high road and it honestly was for the best. I love that she has 2 lingerie shops and is truly about her business. She was honest with herself about how she was feeling with the breakup and even if she didn't see it, that helped her to move on how she did. And Sean's big, fine Samoan self was just what she needed to keep her ex where he belonged, in the past and out of her life.
I liked Sean. There's something about a big strong man that looks like he can ( and is able to😏) build you a house and give you all the sexual pleasure you can think of, that's beyond sexy to me. A man that works with his hands is a man that I need in my life and given his profession as a construction worker, Sean could get all the business 😉😜. Even with his no good, dirty and trifling ex-wifes infidelity still being fresh, he took a chance with Fallon and they had instant chemistry. I understood his need to pull back since they were moving fast, yet he fumbled the ball horribly in not just being open with her about what was going on in his heart and mind. He almost lost Fallon, yet he saw his error and quickly resolved it. I loved Sean's teddy bear like demeanor with Fallon and can't wait for more of these two.
This series just isn't letting up on the greatness and I'm truly loving it.
Loved this book , it was light funny , and sexy. It was good to connect with the other characters from the series but what I really enjoyed was Dancing Donnie and Fallon's parents . I have really enjoyed the books to this series and If you need a feel good book read this one, it reads like a romantic comedy.
CCJ never ceases to amaze me! I feel like this one topped your last if that is even possible. I LOVE Sean; you know I'm a Rock fan. I really like Fallon too. This story is nice, sweet, realistic as well as grown & sexy. I could totally relate to the hurt that these two experienced in past relationships and how they were afraid to trust again. It was wonderful to read about a vulnerable couple who fell in love anyway and knew how to be honest with each other about their feelings. Fallon's family cracked me up. Great read...you're the bomb.com :)
I think this is my favorite couple from this series so far! Sean and Fallon were a cute couple from the jump. The chemistry is there. The spunk. Everything about them was great. I love how they were able to overcome their challenges. My favorite scene is perhaps in the barbershop when they accuse Sean of pulling a Carter. Or a Roman or a Nix. They were hilarious! It was great though.
I am loving this series!!! The storylines get better and better!! It will have you rolling over and tapping your significant other on the shoulder!! Or better yet, sitting in his or her lap!!!
Great Love Story of cheating, forgiveness and finding 💘 again. The series' character s are very developed and well define and each book is a great read. Thank you Ms. Jones.
CHRISSY............... CHRISSYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.... had done it again. I did not think I would like a book more than Carter and Viv... then you gave me Nix and Charlie........ well you have proved me wrong yet again....Sean and Fallon was a funny, carefree, relaxing read. I loved everything about it... Fallon was a spitfire... you just never knew what was coming out of that mouth....Sean.....Sean.....Sean... he was perfect for Fallon and vice versa... all characters were great.... Fallon parents kept me in stitches.... and Don Juan...the Dancing Don... lmao.... when his dad said what grown man can't graffiti a poster without getting caught... rolling.... and lets not forget her ride or die mom.... reminds me of someone!!!... Christina Jones never disappoints.... and this was simply a A PHENOMENAL READ.....
This was a cute little love story. I liked that bit was sweet, charming, funny, and talked about a serious issue with women today. Even with the unknown connection that Fallon and Sean unknowingly had, i loved the way you brought them together. Fallon's family is a mess, and had me cracking up, i love them. I also liked how the characters from your other books made appearances and helped Sean out, lol. I hated Ray, he really was a douche. I really would like to hear more about Fallon and Sean's story, as well as hear more about her family. It was kind of short to me, and I didn't get enough of their story. That's why I gave it four stars. It was still a nice read and I would still recommend.
really enjoyed this story of Sean and Fallon. Fallon was a driven entrepreneur who was dating a lawyer - Ray. He encouraged her to relocate to a city near Chicago. He was living with her but was contemplating a move to 'better" his career. Fallon got with his program and made things happen. She was just about to go to the airport to pick Ray up, he calls and dumps her. She is devastated. However, she buys a house and needs a contractor..Sean a friend of Charlie and Nixon( who we know from this series) is the man for the job.
This is a story of two who hooked up with their worst nightmares but their nightmares have a secrets that come to light...
CCJ has done her thing, yet again!!! Loved this book! Loved Fallon and Sean! And Ayden! And that cute little town that all these young, black and fabulous people live in! CCJ truly has a gift for storytelling, and fortunately for me, she tells just the kinds of stories I love to read. She has once again given us characters and a storyline that are truly enjoyable. I love how real the dialogue is in this, and all of her books.
Too many good things about this book for me to tell. If you haven't read it, you are truly missing out! It's just that good!
My second Christina Jones book and I enjoyed it just as much as the first! I really love her voice, humor, dialogue and sexiness. Her writing is smooth and confident. Her heroines are smart and independent. And her heroes are hot. I'm not a big fan of super alpha billionaire types, but I like strong, protective men. Jones' heroes are just right. They're real and down to earth, with believable flaws. The hero from Right Kind of Trouble is a grad student who works at a library, and this hero owns a renovation business. I love a man who works with his hands. ;) 4.5
Excellent visit to THE neighborhood! The Serendipitous Love series is the most engaging and entertaining set of books I've read in 2015! Each new book feels like a visit with very cool old friends. I absolutely LOVE this neighborhood, these characters and the dialog. Even the side characters are DELIGHTFUL! Mrs. Jones' talent is not to be missed especially if you enjoy entrepreneurial success, love, steam and humor "in warm hues" Bravo Mrs. Jones for another stellar installment.
Fallon and Sean, Oh how I love you two! I felt as if I had a front row seat into your lives. Sitting on the side watching and waiting for you to act on the strong chemistry you two have. I would love see more from you two as well as see if that no good Ray and Olivia gets theirs as well. Karma is real and I hope they get what they deserve.
Loved it. Never disappoint CCJ. I can always get a good love story and good character development from you. Love how all the books in the is series mention updates on the other characters from each other's love stories. Looking forward to reading more. Good one!
"There's nothing wrong with admiring God's work when it came across my path, right?" AMEN to THAT!
I am so loving getting introduced to more and more of the characters and couples in this Black Mecca that Christina has created. Usually, I would prefer to read the continuation of a story between two characters that I've already been introduced to. But I've come to love and trust in Christina's writing and process so much that I go into each of these books, not wary that I won't love the new couple as much as I've loved the couples introduce previously. But excited that I get to see another instance of #relationship goals from another melanated, smart and sexy couple.
"The Way Love Goes" follows Fallon after a rough and abrupt breakup with the man she thought would be a part of her happily ever after, in a city she assumed would be the backdrop to their new adventure, remodeling a home she believed would shelter their family. Instead she is heartbroken and alone in a new city away from her family and friends, living in a unfinished house that is entirely too big for one person to make a home. But one of the best and most beautiful traits in every Black woman, is that of resilience. Fallon decides she isn't going to let a fuck boy ruin her shine, she's going to make new friends in this new and prospering city and put her all into making her house her home. The last thing on her mind is a man after what she's been through.
And then in walks Sean Keahi. Tall, dark, handsome, strong and the one responsible for bringing the vision she has for her home to a reality. They don't get off on the right foot when they first meet, but contrary to popular belief, first impressions aren't always everything. Sean and Fallon fall into something sexy, fun and intense and I loved every minute of it.
I love how Christina always, ALWAYS gives BOTH her characters baggage and their own issues and BS they have to deal with and overcome. Too many times, I read these contemporary romance novels and its always the female that makes things complicated. It's always the woman that can't seem to get over the past in order to accept the blessing that is right in their face. But Chrisina is all about spreading the baggage and it makes for a more interesting and compelling story and romance when you have both characters dealing with their shit and trying to come to terms with all that is going on in their lives in order to try and make it work with one another.
It was fun reading about Fallon trying to get over the very fresh betrayal from her last relationship and navigating the feelings she was so very quickly having for Sean while seeing Sean deal with the same feelings for similar but from a mans perspective.
I love that the previous characters from this world have such a strong presence but the love story between Fallon is never overshadowed. It would have been all too easy for one of the previous couples to outshine Sean and Fallon. So far Carter and Viv are my favorite couple in this series. But there was never a time where they were mentioned and I wanted to just forget about Fallon and Sean and read more about them. Christina has a way of getting you invested in the couple you are reading about and KEEPING that investment alive through the entire book and I LOVE IT!
I could seriously just gush and gush about this book all day but I wont do that. All in all "The Way Love Goes" was ANOTHER solid book by Christina and I can't wait to read the next installment in the Serendipitous series.
Christina C. Jones makes me okay with premises that normally don’t work for me. Case in point: Fallon is freshly dumped at the start of this book after uprooting her life because her boyfriend was going to be transferred. Except he’s just another subpar man and she stayed in a lackluster relationship for too long for reasons that were never clear. Normally I want a character like that to take a long break before dating again. But I wound up really enjoying how things unfolded with Sean and appreciated that they waited a couple of months before getting involved, despite the clear attraction. I can’t say they settled into friendship, because there was always an undercurrent of more, but they were good friends to one another at a time when they really needed it. Even so, of course problems arise because neither of them are fully ready! Both their exes cheated so there are some trust issues. Sean got divorced a year and a half ago and his dad died one year ago, making him the sole owner of their renovation and construction company. Huge changes! And yet Fallon and Sean had such a strong connection and that is ultimately what sees them through.
There were a few things that didn’t make sense to me, like Fallon repeatedly walking through construction zones in her home with bare feet or thinking she could start putting tile down on her own when she hired Sean’s company to do it and she has no experience. Or Sean feeling weird about Fallon paying her for remodeling her home when that’s the reason they met in the first place! I also wish the story had dealt with Fallon’s codependency, instead of alluding to it and even rationalizing her behavior, especially with her relationship with her mom. This is likely part of why she stayed with her ex for so long and it needed to be dealt with. There’s also, unfortunately, gender essentialism throughout with lots of characters weighing in what real men or women are like; a couple of instances felt homophobic as well because of their basis in gender stereotypes.
It was fun to catch up with the network of friends and business owners. I loved the scene when the guys said Sean was "pulling a Carter" and then talked about their respective relationship screw ups. It was so spot on!
Character notes: Fallon is a 33 year old Black lingerie store owner. Sean is a Black (Samoan Fijian) construction company owner.
CW: exes cheated, heroine has large fibroid on her uterus and surgery to remove it, hero’s father died a year ago (hit by drunk driver), hero divorced a year and a half ago, family planning discussion, pregnant secondary characters, alcohol, street harassment, gender essentialism, ableist language, reference to hero’s mother who died of cancer when he was 14, reference to mother’s friend who is in remission from breast cancer
The epilogue for this book is so cute, so please read all the way to the end of this book. I really loved Fallon and Sean’s love story.
Fallon leaves Chicago ahead of her boyfriend, buys a fixer upper house, and starts a second location for her business leaving her family and friends. They’re supposed to be leaving Chicago behind for a new job opportunity for him. They’ve been living apart for six months. The morning he’s supposed to arrive, he tells Fallon that he’s not coming and he’s breaking up with her.
Sean is the contractor fixing her house. He’s divorced. He divorced his wife because of her infidelity and he’s still adjusting to that fact. The attraction between Fallon and Sean is immediate and intense.
Sean and Fallon quickly start a relationship and most of the book is about that detailing their ups and downs as their relationship grows. There’s an interesting emotional twist at the end but they do get a HEA. I loved how feisty Fallon was refusing to put up with less than she deserved from Sean. I also love how Sean fell fast, wondered if it was too fast, then realizing when he made a mistake and quickly correcting it.
Another great book in the series. Borrowed this from Kindle Unlimited.
