Rate this book

Read this book for my son as a bedtime story tonight. This book follows Splat the Cat as he writes a letter to Santa asking for a big present and promised that he was a good cat. Then he has second thoughts thinking he wasn’t good enough so he set out to help his mom wash the dishes that were already cleaned, decorate the Christmas tree that was already decorated... well he gives it a bit more mess to it rather than doing a good job haha then he got tired and go to sleep. He’s too excited for Santa so he tried to stay up to watch out for Santa to explain to him that he was a good cat. The next day comes and all was quiet in the house and he worries about not getting any presents. A great read and I highly recommended it!

Splat the Cat returns for his third picture-book adventure in Merry Christmas, Splat, a humorous tale in which our feline hero, having asked Santa Claus for "a really big present," begins to wonder if he has been good enough to deserve such a treat. Deciding to make a last ditch effort, in order to impress Santa, Splat sets out to "help" his mom prepare for Christmas...

After finding Rob Scotton's initial Splat book, Splat the Cat , rather mediocre, but enjoying his second, Love, Splat , I thought I would give this third installment a try, even though the Christmas season is past. I'm glad I did, as there are some moments of true hilarity here, as when Splat rushes into the kitchen and declares: "Mom!...I'm going to help you get everything ready for Christmas!" and his mother, with an alarmed look on her face, replies, "Oh dear." Scotton's fuzzy feline family is adorable, and although I don't think a Christmas title which focuses on wanting the biggest present imaginable will ever make my favorites list, Merry Christmas, Splat is an engaging holiday tale, all the same.

Splat wants a really big present for Christmas, but has he been good enough? Kids who worry that Santa will bring them coal will love this book, which (don't worry) ends happily! I love how soft Splat and his family always look in these books, and my kids howl with laughter as Splat tries to wait up for Santa and just misses him. This was our first Splat the Cat book, and we've collected most of them now.

I really really wanted to give this one four because Splat is just so cute and fuzzy (and I do NOT like cats).

Would have been four if he had learned at all what the spirit of Christmas is all about. He did try to do a couple of good deeds (that didn't really need doing) so that's something. But in the end the story is mostly about him wanting a big present and getting a big present.

But CUTE CUTE CUTE illustrations.

I read this book with my g'little. This is a little story about Splat, a black cat, who is hoping that he's been good enough to get a big present for Christmas. My g'little loved this book- its prose and illustrations. Great Christmas story!

Splat pens a letter to Santa on Christmas Eve, asking for a really big present, and expressing that he has been a very good cat. But when his little sister plants a seed of doubt, Splat does everything he can to prove that he has been good.

Typically, I enjoy reading Splat the Cat books during story time. However, the story fell a little short this time. The kiddos enjoyed listening to the story, until it got to the very end. While it was fun seeing the different scenarios Splat would end up in while he was trying to help, when it Christmas morning arrived and it was time for Splat to get his present, the book didn't show what it was and those listening were disappointed.

This was by no means a bad story. However, I wish there was a way to reveal what the gift was or a better way to end the story so the kiddos weren't wondering why the story stopped rather abruptly.

This is a very funny book that gets genuine laughs from both young and old. In this one, Splat feels that he has not been "good enough" throughout the year to merit a visit from Santa Claus, so he goes about trying to help out with holiday chores must to the chagrin of his mom. He then tries to stay up all night on Christmas Eve to see Santa but instead "misses" him in the wee hours of the morning. It all, naturally has a happy and merry ending. The slapstick nature of Splat's antics and the pacing of the story are perfect for a read aloud. I recently read this to a kindergarten class and not only did the kids laugh, but the teacher and aide laughed along with them.

Splat is a black cat who is concerned that he isn't going to get a Christmas gift. He decides to be extra good right before Christmas, but ends up stressing out his mom. Splat doesn’t see Santa come and thinks that he is the reason for that. Santa did come after all and he got a gift. This is an okay book that has a lot of references to Santa; I could skip it in the future, but it was better than some of the other books I checked out, so I'm feeling lenient.

This is about a cat who wants to be good for Christmas and tries to help out because he wants a big present. He waits and worries that he hasn't been good enough.

He ends up getting a big presents after a long wait.

The pictures were great, but I expected a little more from our character. This is my first Splat the Cat book.

Poor Splat. He wants so hard to be good for Santa, but he doesn't quite know just how to help out his mom. But then again, what parent hasn't been there, watching a kid help out, while just wishing they would stop. Although Splat's motivations for helping are a little misguided, let's be honest, he's just doing what any kid who reads this book would be doing.

Splat worries that he might not have been good enough this year for Santa to bring him a present for Christmas. He does his best to be extra helpful the day before Christmas to make sure. Of course, his "help" is less than helpful, despite his good intentions. This is a cute Christmas story that I'm sure many parents will relate to.

Seymour is the only reason I give this one a 2... the desire for a "really big present" and that if you don't get one, it's basically because you don't deserve it? Kind of a crap thing for a poor kid to read. JMO but y'all can't convince me it's wrong.

A bit of a nothing book this. The whole storyline falls just short of the moral. Plus for some peculiar reason it reminds me vaguely of Home Alone.

A cute story for the very young. (There's not much to it.) I haven't read other stories about Splat, but I can see how kids would enjoy this series.
