Alpha and Omega #2

Dancing Around the Cop

Rate this book
Terry Martin has an awesome life – good friends, loving parents and a job he loves designing all of the bright and wonderful costumes for the drag queens at Club Blue. Sure, no one but his parents know he’s an Omega wolf, but he’s okay with that. Unfortunately being a twink often means getting picked on and after a night out with friends, Terry has the misfortune to meet an Alpha wolf, Detective Zander Samuels – his true mate.

Zander can’t have a mate, especially a pretty, sweet little man like Terry. His friend of more than ten years, and partner on the force hates gay men with a passion and Zander won’t risk the only true friend he has, not even for a mate. So even though he’s scented Terry, Zander is determined to stay away from the Omega. Unfortunately the Fates are just as determined that the two men should be together and when Zander finds himself hit with the mating curse in more ways than one, he comes up with a plan to have Terry without upsetting his friend.

A nasty boss, a homophobic partner, some really jerky behaviour by Zander and another Alpha wolf keen on claiming Terry for his own, all conspire to stop any chance these two have of finding true love. But did I mention that the Fates are really persistent?

Warning: This book is about male wolf shifters, it includes coarse language, mm sex scenes, a gorgeously cute Omega who will melt your heart and an Alpha wolf you will just want to slap around the head.

Note to self: don't read this author again until told by others she has changed dramatically in her writing.

I was attracted by the title. I was disappointed.

I liked the fashion designer MC. I liked the drag queens.

I hated the other MC and his attitude. Even after he's "fallen in love" with the other guy, his attitude was really belittling and demeaning and all over distasteful. I would utterly loathe being regarded/treated this way by anyone.

Zander knowingly and deliberately hurt Terry. I didn't buy his quick turn around just by talking with Richard. If his base nature was to be that cruel, then there is no way Zander could redeem himself. Zander purposefully chose his police partner Sully over Terry. In fact, Zander had shaped his lifestyle completely around Sully. Terry deserved so much better. Lisa Oliver created the same alpha character in Undesirable Mate. Nope, the author didn't convince me that Zander got his shit together. And he definitely didn't feel enough pain and angst to redeemed himself with Terry.

Zander was a hideous beast. Ugh. These characters are so evil and then flip a switch and suddenly become the most soft and fuzzy bunnies ever - it’s hard to believe and it takes away from the story. I wish she would bring the heroes and villains in a little, no one has to be that perfect or that rotten.

A jumbled mess. Seriously, a mess.

Terry is from Ohio, Zander is from Connecticut and the entire story takes place in Houston Texas yet characters use words and phrases from Australia. There is a lean toward UK English spelling AND the Houston Police Department does not have an Armed Defender Squad. The closest I can tell where that type of law enforcement division exists is in New Zealand.

The author obviously doesn’t know the difference between a Drag Queen and Transvesticist. Google is your friend, but let me help. (Both of these definitions are from Merriam-Webster and I am sorry they are cringy but technically correct.)

drag queen
noun: a usually homosexual man who dresses as a woman and performs as an entertainer especially to caricature stereotypically vampish women

Transvestite
nountrans·ves·tite\tran(t)s-ˈves-ˌtīt, tranz-\ : a person who wears clothes designed for the opposite sex : a cross-dresser An older term for crossdresser is transvestite. Crossdressers often dress only in certain situations. They do not usually identify as transgender—most identify as straight men. — Laura Erickson-Schroth
trans·ves·tism\-ˈves-ˌti-zəm\or less commonly transvestitism \-ˈves-ˌti-ˌti-zəm\ noun
transvestite adjective

Drag Queens don’t spend all day in their costumes and don’t meet friends for lunch or to hang out in costume either. Going to meet their costume designer for dress design or fittings during the day would be like anyone going to their tailor or seamstress. You bring what shoes & undergarments you intend to wear but you don’t show up before lunch in full character costume. I doubt Madonna, Britney Spears or Cher meet friends for lunch dressed for their stage performance. A Drag Queen won’t either.

All of this fuckery and bad writing made it impossible for me to enjoy the story. Unfortunately I’ve already bought the series as a bundle so I’m going to TRY to get through them.

I gave an additional star because I love Terry and his friends. They made the book. He was small but he had spunk along with a great sense of design.

Terry just watched carefully. He wouldn’t start anything, he never started anything, but he was damned if he was going to let his friends get beaten up either. He was tiny, only five foot four and slim, almost willowy in build. But he was an Omega wolf and the bigots in front of him were pure human.

Terry was loyal to his friends. He wasn't going to let them be bullied by homophobes. He joined the fight and the police were called.

We weren’t doing anything wrong. They came over and picked a fight with us. They probably didn’t like my jacket, or maybe they objected to Roy’s lovely top.” What a stupid thing to say. Duh! Terry refused to look at the bigger man. He just couldn’t. But then Mr. Perfection said in a low soft voice, “It’s a very lovely jacket. I’ve never seen anything like it before

He met the cop, an arrogant alpha.

With a snort, Roy grabbed Terrance’s arm again and propelled him past the policeman. Taking one last sniff, Terry didn’t imagine the growl he heard as Roy led him away. He couldn’t even think about what that might have meant. All he knew was Roy was taking him away from the one man who was meant to be his for all eternity, and the big fucking Alpha hadn’t even noticed him. He hadn’t even offered his name. Bastard.

Dancing Around The Cop
By Lisa Oliver

Zander is a Detective on the Police force who hides his sexuality due to his severely homophobic partner, Sully. When he's called to a brawl at a bar he discovers his mate is an Omega who was attacked for being gay while out with his friends. Because Sully is with him and he's not ready to come out on the force he acts coldly to his mate and ignores their bond leaving Terry heartbroken.

After Terry is attacked a second time and Zander treats him coldly again even going so far as to act as if it's Terry's own fault he was attacked Terry knows there's no chance for their mating.

Once Zander gets his head on straight he and Terry make a fabulous couple. However, I strongly feel Zander needed to apologize more and grovel to Terry a lot more for how he treated him previously. In essence, it was one date, and then they're in bed together. Not nearly enough to make up for his behavior.

The writing was great. The storyline was great. It's definitely worth a reread.

This book comes with all the usual obstacles:

A manwhore deluxe forced into monogamy due to shifter chemistry.
Homophobic best friend.
Drag queens galore.

All in all a truly pleasant read just not dark enough to delight the senses.Maybe it's all those butterfly dresses.

I’m not a fan of insta-lust stories; and where a recalcitrant lead will die if they don’t accept their fated mate I question their sincerity. However, in spite of these quibbles, this is an okay read.

4 Heart Review by Vicki

Oh Terry and Zander, what a couple you are!

This has one of the things I really like, big alpha male paired with a smaller physically weaker mate. Paranormal or not, I just like that pairing. Especially if the smaller man is mentally a strong match for his alpha mate. That is exactly what we get with this book.

Zander is an alpha werewolf, a loner, a cop, and a jerk. He really is. He’s gay, but his best friend and work partner is a homophobic ass. So Zander fakes it, dates girls just to get sex, occasionally sneaks off to be with a man, and listens to Sully talk his brand of shit. This actually made me like Zander even less. He may be big, but he has no backbone. On a call one night to a bar fight, Zander meets his mate.

Terry is little, sweet, a romantic, and feisty. He is a male omega wolf, a virgin, packless, and flamboyant. His wish in life is to find a lover, a mate, that will love and cherish him. He’s quite happy to smell his mate after he and his friends get in a bar fight, but then devastated to realize his mate wants him only for sex.

So there is really two halves to this book. The first half is Zander being a jerk, trying to convince Terry to be his little toy on the side, and even attempting a hook up with a girl after finding his mate. Terry gets in a bad situation, instead of rescuing his mate, Zander is even a BIGGER JERK and Terry is devastated.

Then things change. Zander turns in to a pussy cat, loves Terry, and wants to worship him forever. I get why this happened, (I am avoiding giving anything away) but it was a little abrupt for me to accept. I wish Terry had stood up a little bit longer, I wish Zander had needed to work harder. Zander goes from jerk to sweetheart a little too fast…

But overall I liked this book! The plot moved quickly, I liked the drama between Zander and Terry, and the sex was nice and hot. I like a big guy with a small guy, and physically they worked very well. I liked Terry’s crazy friends, his group of gay friends certainly, but also the drag queens. They all added to the story, helping and interfering. The writing was pretty good, still some editing issues, but I’m just coming to accept that with this author. There was some drama with a bad guy that I liked, well I didn’t like what he tried to do but I liked what he added to the story. Sully grew on me as the story progressed.

If you are a fan of shifter stories, I’d give this one a try. It is the second in the series, but there are no common characters between the two books. Just know there will be the occasional typo, and odd sentence. We also won’t talk about the cover…. But other than that, it was a good book!

It felt like both Zander and Terry went through an abrupt personality change at one point. Zander suddenly does an about face without the gradual change of heart that would have been more genuine. Terry becomes a great deal gay-er as the story progresses. Overall the story is VERY sappy and cheesy so, if that is your fav, you will enjoy this sweet/hot story. I did miss the usual cool shifter aspects; there is only one instance of shifting and these are lone wolves in an urban area so there's no pack life, runs, wolfy-ness. One niggling thing that kept getting me was that despite being set in Houston, TX, USA the story was full of British English expressions like "rubbish" and calling people "lovely". While it was just a so-so read I would be willing to try another of Oliver's books to see if they were more to my taste.

I really loved this book. I have read all books by Lisa Oliver and as yet I have to find one that I didn't like. At the start I didn't think I would warm up to zander or sully and I was actually rooting for Richard to find his happiness, though as usual I knew I could depend on the HAE that I was expecting. After reading this book I would also like to read about sully and Q I know it will probably not be an alpha and omega book but I would still like to read it. Another character in this book who I couldn't help hoping for a HEA is Charlie. It seemed that at the end of this book he was the only one left unpaired and I felt that seemed a little unfair on him. Overall I loved this I think I liked it better than the first one

Great Gay paranormal romance

Terry is a loving confident omega wolf working hard on his fashion designer career and living as a human. One night he and his friends are hassled in a bar and one of the responding officers is Zander, an alpha wolf and fated mate to Terry. Zander has a homophobic partner so he walks away from Terry. One does not ignore the Fates and Zander gets an attitude adjustment, loses his partner, grovels to his mate and ends up happier than he could ever have imagined. It is a great story, with some danger to Terry, good friends, career success and lots of steamy love. Highly recommend.

I get the feeling this series is going to be a series of just ok books for me. I really wanted to punch Zander right off the bat for the way he was treating Terry. He was quite the arrogant ass to start off. I'm still not sure he did enough groveling for how quickly Terry forgave him. The books just don't suck me in as deeply as I would like to really love them. Though I did enjoy Terry's little tribe and wishes we got more time with them.

I loved almost everything about Terry. He is an out and proud Omega. Very caring to his friends and just a really lovable guy. Zander took a while to grow on me. A long while, but that's okay to as this was a long book. So much happening in this book that sometimes it was hard to keep up. Will read the next one in the series.

Dancing Around the Cop by Lisa Oliver is the second book in the Alpha and Omega series. This could be read as a stand alone novel just fine. I love this particular series a lot. I am a sucker for MM and werewolves and this series delivers. There is a great connection between Terry and Zander. I liked the pace over all to this story as well.
Terry is an Omega. He is a clothing designer for drag queens. I loved the personalities he designs for they need stories too if you ask me. But Terry is a sweet character, he is kind, and just over all a good person. He is being harassed by his boss. He is a colorful personality and dresser.
Zander has a homophobic partner on the force. He is good at his job. He likes his best friend and partner. He doesn't want to lose his friendship, but he knows he will if he ever finds out that Zander is gay.
So when Zander finds his mate he wants to just have a booty call. He doesn't want commitments. Well Terry is not that kind of guy. He shows the mighty Alpha that Omegas can play to win.
I like that Zander comes full circle in this book. He learns what he really is like inside. And he grows, learns, and connects to his inner wolf.
Over all a great love story with passion and heat. There are memorable secondary characters that I would love to know more about in the future as well.

Stubborn Alpha cop meets dress designing Omega

The second book in Lisa Oliver's Alpha and Omega series, this book is just as good as the first book. When arrogant Alpha cop, Zander, meets colorful dress designer for drag queens, Terry, the mating attraction is instantaneous. But Zander has only ever presented himself as straight and Terry has no intention of being anyone's dirty little secret - no matter how hot they are! I loved how strong Terry was in his assertion that he deserved more than being a side piece and how he steadfastly held on to his desires to be treated with romance and respect. Zander had a lot of self examinations to do and it added a depth to the story beyond the norm. Lisa Oliver has a unique way of telling a great story while simultaneously presenting hard topics and wrapping them together in a work that both entertains and provokes thinking. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I can't wait to dive into the next story in the series.

Actually, 2.5.

I didn't like this one as much as the first, for a couple of reasons.
1. The bi cop chooses as his best friend a vile homophobe.
2. Terry has no problem being involved in a bar brawl, but freezes when he's assaulted one on one. Given that he knows how to fight, AND he's stronger and faster than his assailant, I just don't get it.

Aside from that, it wasn't a bad read, and I enjoyed the novella after it https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3... much more.

I enoy this author but ive found some her books are just filler. Like she puts them out to put something out. She can write a great series then u get series like this. Just hollow. Absolutely no substance. No connection between MC's They are literally broken up, not talking or look. The Alpha kissed the Omega. Now the Omega is cock drunk n forgives Absolutely everything. 2 seconds ago Omega was taking on the world independent, hated the Alpha.. or sooking. Half these books I didn't want the mates to be together. U know its crap when ur not even hoping the MC's end up together.

Romance with a plot.

What happens when fate matches an in the closet policeman with a very out there gay fashion designer? A fair bit of chaos which is helped along by the cop’s homophobic friend; some heart break and a lot of soul searching. It all makes for a very entertaining read.

I liked everything from how Terry and his fated mate Zander meet, to the way Xander have to fight for his omega and the way they are together was a couple. Terrys friends are awesome and I'm really curious about Sully and Q now.

Slapping detective Zander Sammuels auround the head?! Make that wanting to clobber some sense into him and the same goes for his homophobic partner Sully. Thank god Terry had great friends and enough patience to wait for Zander to pull his head out of his ass...
