It's Reigning Men #4

Love Is in the Heir

Rate this book
Ya gotta hand it to him… When the teenaged Duchess Pippa Grimaldi walked in on her best friend's brother Prince Christopher in a particularly private moment, she about died of embarrassment. As did Topher, especially when his brother Zander and the rest of his royal siblings then promptly dubbed him the Wanker and never let him live down his public “exposure.” It seemed the only way he could escape his overwrought reputation was by fleeing Monaforte altogether, which he did for years. But when he finally returns to the European principality for the wedding of his brother Prince Adrian, Topher finds himself relishing a most unexpected one-night stand with none other than free-spirited Pippa. And while Topher would like nothing more than to nurture the secret crush he’d had on her for years, she decides the only way to spare him further shaming at the hands of his brothers is to get far, far away from him. Even if being with him stirs feelings she’s never felt with another man.

Jenny Gardiner is the author of #1 Kindle Bestseller Slim to None and the award-winning novel Sleeping with Ward Cleaver. Her latest works are the It’s Reigning Men series, featuring Something in the Heir; Heir Today Gone Tomorrow; Bad to the Throne; and the upcoming Love is in the Heir. She also published the memoir Winging It: A Memoir of Caring for a Vengeful Parrot Who's Determined to Kill Me, now re-titled Bite Me: a Parrot, a Family and a Whole Lot of Flesh Wounds; the novels Anywhere but Here (soon to be re-released); Where the Heart Is; the essay collection Naked Man on Main Street, and Accidentally on Purpose and Compromising Positions (writing as Erin Delany); and is a contributor to the humorous dog anthology I'm Not the Biggest Bitch in This Relationship. Her work has been found in Ladies Home Journal, the Washington Post and on NPR’s Day to Day. She has worked as a professional photographer, an orthodontic assistant (learning quite readily that she was not cut out for a career in polyester), a waitress (probably her highest-paying job), a TV reporter, a pre-obituary writer, as well as a publicist to a United States Senator (where she first learned to write fiction). She's photographed Prince Charles (and her assistant husband got him to chuckle!), Elizabeth Taylor, and the president of Uganda. She and her family now live a less exotic life in Virginia.

Watch out for snails

Prince Topher will never inherit the throne and he’s fine with that. His brother Zander’s best friend, Duchess Pippa once caught him with his pants down, literally, and Zander has never stopped giving him a hard time, so to speak. Thing is, he’s had a thing for Pippa for years. After a hot night together at Crown Prince Adrian’s wedding, will Topher and Pippa become an item, or was it a one and done. And will a horrible accident bring them together or tear them apart?
It was a cute story and I would recommend it to everyone.

These people are annoying. When the going gets tough, the tough go find a luxury boat to float around on in paradise, eat gourmet food, and drink. Both Pippa and Topher reject relationships because they are too busy with their international projects, hers is charity-based and his is to finish up his marine biology degree, yet nowhere in the book so they actually do these things. The ending is predictable and wraps up much too neatly. All in all, ridiculous.

It was a silly book but still enjoyable. When I first met my soon to be in-laws I would have backed out the door and boogied out of there as fast as I could. The conversations this royal family had were not typical, I hope. I'm sure that goes on with brothers or mixed siblings, but to carry on like that in front of others was a bit much.

I've never heard of a snail with a stinger like that; if it's true, I would want to warn everyone to stay out of the water.

Ok

I was really disappointed in this book ending. I really enjoyed the characters and their families and friends. Loving couple but book had no epilogue. How can you write a story and not put more love into details.

A lifetime of friendship and being infatuated with a family friend takes one royal past his limit.

Pippa and Topher have grown up together. The incident Topher has been teased about may have been her responsibility after all. Wonderful character development and storyline.

Great

Another great story. I laughed out loud constantly . This royal family is a hoot and I can't wait to start the next chapter.

Interesting!

It was a cute story. With enough sex to keep it moving along. A glimpse into the lives of the wealthy.

Beautiful settings

Gardiner describes the numerous setting in great detail from the various shades of blue and green for the Caribbean Sea and the British Virgin Islands to the Australian sunsets with orange and red. But the focus is Pippa and Topher. Topher's boyhood crush on Pippa along with numerous embarrassing moments builds a faux conflict for Topher. Pippa is conflicted about their relationship for numerous reasons, one of which is her friendship to Topher's older brother Zander from the previous novel. Plus her kinredship with the Queen and her husband as second parents to her...Pippa was fearful of ruining that relationship by beginning a romantic one with Topher. One aspect I was a bit disappointed by was the lack of character development for Topher. As readers we are given the explanation of why Topher distanced himself from the rest of the family, but we don't really see who he is as a person as we did with Adrian and Darcy. Less of the previous characters are intertwined in this novel as in the previous books, although that could be due to Topher's distance from his family. I was slightly disappointed with this novel.

I wanted something fast and light to read between assignments in grad school. This was perfect. You know how it's going to end but it's still a fun journey along the way.
