Diabolical By Supriya Parulekar

Quote :- The Soul That Has conceived one wickedness can nurse no good thereafter.

We think glamour world is like the "Sets" of "Yash Raj films" full of bright lights, fame, foreign outings, Classy clothes, happy endings but the other side of the coin is that it is Uncertain,Dark and a life that comes with a huge "Price Tag"

My Verdict :-

Diabolical Is a "Pandora box" of human emotions ranging from possessiveness, jealousy,
love, insecurity, pain and fear of the inner demons
This story captures the "Dirty and Dark Picture" of the gorgeous Sonya Rana who is a successful actress in the Bollywood. Society assumes that Sonya Rana is a happy,Famous and Successful soul but there is something more than what meets One's eye....(May be her wings of past were black but that doesn't mean she was not an angel).... From Tania's unconditional support and protective aspect To Ramola's "Not so Motherly" traits, From Jay's "selfless love to Sonya's "Chaotic mind games", From Arjun's "Logical Cop" Attribute to Maya's "Powerful Sketches", From the Glamours lights of B-Town to the Darkness of real life, from the "abusive" past to the threatening present..This book is like a "Veil lifting or the mask fallen" read.

Quote from the book :-

:- Sometimes, things bottled up inside need an avenue and they do come out it open when situations present themselves
:- Life is not a Cakewalk but a rope walk.Lose your step, lose your balance and within seconds everything comes tumbling down.
:- When God decides to give the pain he is not thinking of the measures but judging your tolerance level
:- People who opt to die ,do not for a moment think about their loved ones!

Wow and Oops Of the Book :-

-> Content :- Language was transparent and vivid but i felt that printing was bit opaque specially the first grey page of every chapter, that was not clearly visible

->Execution and Concept :- Story was maturely captured but i think the concept was not "New" as few Bollywood movies(Fashion,Dirty picture,Heroin) are already in the market enlightening the same concept

Point To be Noted :-

1) Parents immobility and ignorance towards the child-abuse can be dangerous and destructive,so try to make this parent-Child Relation a bit more transparent

2) Extreme of anything can be injurious,Try to pour your hearts at the right time rather than building that "Inevitable Demon" inside you.

Overall, this book Exposes the dark and veiled sides of the bright glamorous world

P.S :- Diabolical is a brew of eye -catching cover, well-crafted narration, alarming storyline, perfect execution and realistic ending

Rating :- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Film star, Sonya Rana has had a horrendous childhood. Being an abandoned child, Sonya always wished for some motherly love from her step mother, Ramola. Ramola never considered Sonya as her daughter and very often, she neglected, scolded and threatened her. She did not take a stand for her when Sonya was sexually abused.

Minds of young children are like that of clay. It takes the shape of whatever that is imprinted on it. Sonya has the horrible incident of the sexual abuse hidden, deep somewhere. And it is this incident which keeps haunting her present. Even love form Tania, her step-sister and Jay, her lover couldn’t rescue her from these demons.

Hope is the only thing that we have which keeps us going in our life. When hope is lost, everything is lost. Sonya loses hope and is forced upon by the demons to commit suicide. What was the cause of Sonya’s death? Was it a murder that was disguised as a suicide?

Diabolical takes you on a roller coaster ride of love, friendship and hope. The author has done an exceptionally brilliant job with the narration part. I have lived through the book. The characters, too, have been well-developed. The flow of the story is constant. It keeps you hooked up until the end.

Likes:

Sonya and Tania’s love and friendship ~ I share a similar kind of relationship with my sister. I felt the rush of emotions when reading about them. I could relate myself with most of the incidents from the story. For example – the swing.

Jay’s love for Sonya ~ It reminded me of A Walk to Remember! Selfless love!

Maya- The Mystique and her contribution in solving the mystery.

The author hasn’t given the story a happy end. Depression is like termite. It eats up your life. Sonya’s suicide proved that author wishes to write realism. I liked the end. Some part of me still feels that Sonya should have given a chance to Jay and their relationship. But it’s better to die once than torturing oneself to death every day.

I rate:

Cover: 3.5/5

Story: 4/5

Characters: 4/5

Diabolical deserves an overall rating of 4/5 stars.

‘Aap devil ke peeche, devil aapke peeche’ – do you remember the popular dialog from a popular Bollywood flick? Have you ever felt hat electrice kick from the diabolical you? Yes, sometimes, we ought to be a bit devilish in order to bring out our real self in front of the whole world! No, it’s not negative but s, it might seem to be devilish! Literally speaking the term, ‘Diabolical’ means devilish or in simpler words disgracefully unpleasant. Read this story to find out which element in her life is a diabolical – her mother, her sister, her love, her career, her life or she, herself?

I could easily connect with this story as a reader, because the language used by the author is uncomplicated and smooth, the vocabulary is not at all knotty and it was an overall pleasant read for me. The story had enough twists and turns to keep me obsessed for knowing more. This tale was successful in creating curiosity in the mind till the last page of the book.
