This book offers a valuable overview of ancient Central Himalayan tribes and their contribution to modern Kumaon and Garhwal culture. However, its cultural analysis would benefit from a revised integration of regional political history, because it was last updated in 2009. For a comprehensive political history of Uttarakhand, I recommend Yashwant Singh Katoch's 'Uttarākhand kā Navīn Itīhās'."
