"I may be attending the ball. Although I am not quite certain as of yet. Do you attend in the hopes of meeting the Prince and falling in love? If so, I confess myself disappointed, I had the impression of you being a rational young lady."
In life, there are single moments of shining brilliance.
Cinderella, the illegitimate daughter of an Earl and his mistress, could never imagine herself being any more than a burden and embarrassment to those around her.
Fated coincidence.
When none other than the Prince finds her diary hidden in the forest, her life takes an unexpected turn.
One night.
A secret correspondence brings light to the darkest moments of a young woman's life, leading to one extraordinary night of magic and the possibility of a lifetime of happiness. Will Cinderella have the courage to risk everything for what she wants? Or will fear be her ultimate enemy.
Cinderella is an illegitimate child of an earl and his mistress. She was taken in against the wishes of the earl's wife into their home, and was made into a serving girl. Having lived a lonely and almost friendless existence, she would write to her diary every day, and hide it under a tree in the woods, so as not to be discovered by the members of the household. One day, the crown prince set out into the woods along with his men, and came upon Cinderella's diary, which started their unusual means of correspondence. Cinderella's personality, depicted by her replies, drew the prince to her. Soon they discovered each others' struggles in life, and grew closer in spirit.
This Cinderella retelling is a non-magical version. No fairy godmother nor magical birds to make her dreams come true.
This book is short and sweet. Without much winding twist or surprises, the appeal of the book lies on how they come to fall in love, as opposed to the love at first sight I came to know as a child. It's a lovely short read that you can enjoy anytime of the day...
