Haunted #16

The Old House

Rate this book
It’s summertime and Mia needs a break. The Paranormal Entity Exposure Partners are offered a stay at Price Hills Resort, a ski lodge with a hundred and four rooms, located at the top of one of the best non-mountainous ski runs in Wisconsin. Of course, it’s not the right season for fun in the snow, and this isn’t a vacation. PEEPs has been hired to clear the hotel of paranormal activity (mysterious slamming doors, ghostly and violent bar patrons) before they open as a family-friendly destination. The gondola will be shut down after their arrival, so PEEPs will be working in isolation with no escape but a trek on foot down difficult terrain. And the thunder is growing ever louder.

Mia and Ted have been weathering a storm of their own but still need to find shelter, a place to mend and heal without the interference of friend and foe. They pack up Brian and head to a cottage on Wolf’s Head Lake, a dead zone for cellphones and computers but a place to rest and concentrate on themselves for a change. There is just one thing in the way: the old house.

It’s just an old wreck of a building, clapboard with a stone foundation, the windows long gone, and nature has begun to settle in. It has been abandoned for too many years, but the roofline is straight and the foundation is good. Twelve-year-old Mark Leighton discovers it on the way to his favorite fishing hole and is strangely drawn to it. It consumes his thoughts during the day and calls to him at night. He tries to resist.

But the old house calls; the old house wants; the old house gets.

Pack up your sunscreen and shorts and join Mia, Murphy and PEEPs as they investigate “The Old House,” in the 16th novel of the “Haunted Series.”

My idea of a great vacation is a porch swing, view of the water and a pile of books to read.
Once upon a time…
I wonder if those words spoken to, or read for the first time, were the catalyst for the spark that lit the fire within us. To write and tell a story the way each of us does is a gift and a responsibility. We sometimes toil hours with an idea, or even just one sentence, not knowing if anyone beyond us will ever read our words. We do it for love. The love of bringing to light the world that resides inside our heads.
It does not matter if we have a happy ending or a soulful gasp. What matters is that we put these thoughts on paper. So keep writing my friends. Keep taking us to the secret corners of your mind. Be brave. Tempt fate and above all enjoy.

This the 16th book is released quick on the heels of "Never Forget." I promised two for the summer and am happy to have succeeded. Thank you all that have offered me encouragement and yes, friendship.

Enjoy!

I really liked the plot with the house and enjoyed the mini story about the inn. However, I am really, REALLY hoping that the whole ridiculousness of Mia and Ted's marriage drama is over. I've hated this storyline, not just because they are a great couple, but also because it really just seemed to come out of nowhere in the previous book. Ted has always seemed so confident and head over heels for Mia. I just don't buy all the problems caused by Beth, hex or not. Please, let it be over.

I also have a problem with how much the other men (Burt, Mike, Angelo, Roumain) slobber and pine over Mia. It's starting to get creepy and weird, and I hope it's toned down in future books. I think by now they should be able to admire her without all the innuendo, and that bizarre episode with Burt trying to force himself on her in the old house just felt gross.

Beware of old houses that call to you!!!!

If an old house that's been empty for years calls to you, beware it might not be as empty as it looks. When Mia and Ted take Brian on a vacation they still can't escape the ghosts. They meet a young boy that's been hearing an old house where the family was killed, supposedly by the brother of the father of the family. But is this true, did he really kill his brother and his family over some hidden gold treasure? That's what Mia, Ted and the whole PEEPs crew are trying to figure out. But will they survive this deadly investigation or
have they finally gotten in over their heads? To find out you'll have to read this, the 16th book in the exciting in the Haunted Series. The writing as always is outstanding, the characters warm and believable and the ongoing storyline has just taken a huge twist that you don't want to miss. Highly recommended.

Sometimes when a series continues it loses its charm. As characters evolve (or devolve) you begin to tire of them. This has not happened with this series. Every book gets better. The characters have evolved but in a good way. It is fun to see the PEEPS group mature and stay immature all at the same time.

Great book, Great Fun to read! cannot wait till the next one!

Can't wait for next book

Well, I have read all the Haunted Series! I think I will be having withdrawals soon. A new person was introduced, Mark. He is 12 years old and I hope he continues in the Series. Mia has her wings now and they do come in handy. I loved the whole series! If you want to read them (and you should) start with the first!

Truly great

I could ready this series forever, but the next one is the last. I'm sad. I want to drag this next book out and hurry through it at the same time as well.
