The Rock Gods #6

Fighting His Fire

Rate this book
Locked-down at a Los Angeles intervention facility, everyone around Dante Dupont and his Black Ice band mate, Ashton Lane, thought this would fix the issues between them. Dante and Ashton knew differently. What made this a hundred times worse was the fact they were stuck in this room together. They hadn't shared space like this since the one afternoon they both wanted to forget. And, revisiting that nightmare was not an option . . . with or without the help of a therapist.

Two musicians. Same band. Afraid to admit their true feelings, being in close quarters again has them both at their breaking point. They say if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen, but neither of them can find a reason to leave, and fighting the fire is becoming more and more difficult to do.

Dante's baggage isn't pretty and his scars run deep, but Ashton might be the one to finally see beyond his past and help him find a way out from the smoke screen he's spent his life hiding behind. In order to get there, though, they'll both have to walk through the flames.

Loved it !! I liked book 2 in this series but I just felt something was missing. This one for me was way way better. As you can see I have a tendency to read books out of order, but I had no problems following the storyline.

It's about to (rock)bandmates going at it. And let me tell you, they are pretty rough with each other in more ways than one.

Dante has been attracted to Ashton for a while (he calls him Asher...how cute is that). But he thinks Ashton is straight, which he kind of is (he did some fooling around with men). They are becaoming really good friends and Dante just can't take it anymore and decides to take a chance. He kisses Ashton and Ashton really really likes it. They are quite flamable when they go at it. But when Dante realises that Ashton hasn't been with a man in that way, he pulls away from Ashton.

Now that pisses Ashton off !! From there on out, they do nothing but fight and beat each other to shit. The rest of the band can't take it anymore and decide that it's time for an intervention and Dante and Ashton find themselves locked up together in some rehab facility, being forced to talk about their shit and resolve their issues.

During their intervention Ashton gets to hear why Dante pulled away and why he is a little bit fucked up, my heart broke a bit for Dante. Ashton really wants to be with Dante and vice versa, so they give it another go.

They don't always see eye to eye, and things are not easy, but damnnn they are hot together, especially when breaking down bathrooms together. They also share some kink(delicious !!!).

I loved these two together, they were really hot and wild. They had amazing chemistry and they really loved each other very much !!

4,5 stars from me

This was a really good book one of my favorites in this series. Dante is the lead guitarist for Black Ice and Ashton is the drummer. These two have been fighting off and on in book 4 and 5 of this series so Dagger has had enough after the last fight which the band was unable to perform he decides to do an intervention. Lock down in a room with a bed a bathroom and table these two are really not feeling this. They meet Dr. Collins the therapist in charge who wants to get to the bottom of this. While locked up these two learn something about each other like Ashton had a brother who died and Dante ran away at 14 because his uncle was molesting him. We also find out that these two hooked up or almost turns out Dante is bi and after getting Ashton off he found out that he has never been with a man so Ashton thought Dante left him when he went to clean up turns out he was wrong. These two were fighting because of jealousy they really want each other. After leaving the facility they hook up each one is still mad at Dagger for putting them in the rehab. The sex between these two has hot Dante has issues with bottoming for Ashton and freaks out when he puts his finger in him. After almost hitting him Ashton leaves and Dante seeks help from Dr. Collins and begins to deal with his past. This was a really good book I felt bad for Dante and his childhood he told his mother about his uncle and she didn't believe him and he finally told what made him run away his uncle was going to pimp him out. When Dante takes Ashton to a sex club they see another couple that they know Wheland and Rooster turns out they have the same kink they like to watch and be watched. This was a good book and it's a good series. This book was well written like the rest of the books in this series with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

I was given this book by the author in exchange for an honest review

What the hell can I say? Ann has done it again!! I swear she is killing this series. I absolutely love Ashton's and Dante's enemies to lovers relationship. It is one of my favorite types of stories to read and Ann knocks it out the park! Whewwee this is a smokin' sexy novel, just how I like it and Ann knows how to deliver. The plot is solid and believable and I like it when the author puts in enough information to let you connect with the characters but not bore you fillers and mundane details. Rock God's six was perfect, and Ann doesn't leave you guessing or wondering why the character behaves a certain way or has a type of hang-up. I was able to relate with these MCs and it's probably because just like the other stories we're fortunate enough to get both MC's POV. I am really looking forward to more from these awesome rock stars and Ann doesn't leave you hanging with whose coming next....but I don't give spoilers so I'm gonna insist you get the book if you want to know whose next!

For some funny reason this is the book I've actually liked out of the 6 books in the series so far. Sure it was still long as hell(the 297 pages shown in the book detail column was a lie) but I was actually invested the MCs for once. Go figure.

There was once again too much sex in this but as I said, I liked the story so I count it as a win; especially since this is the last time I'll be reading a book in this series(maybe till my curiosity drives me bak to find out what is going on with Lincoln). But hey! never say never right?

 photo 846947B7-CB58-4231-965F-1005A018ADF6_zps7uxxtbry.jpg Another Amazing Read!!!!

Well, there she goes again ... Our word spinner and Supreme Rock Goddess has blasted another one right out of the park ... I'm not going to get into the details of this story because there are so many other great reviews already posted. What I'd like to say is that I'm always in awe of how Ann takes some pretty serious issues and let's her characters bring them to life as each of their stories unfold ~ yet without shoving them down our throats. More importantly, they're written so tastefully and knowledgably; giving them a voice that needs to be heard. Dante's story of childhood abuse was difficult to absorb but the end result of his healing process was nothing short of beautiful. Dante and Ashton's relationship was explosive ~ filled with intense bouts of anger, self loathing, passion, lust, loyalty, compassion, trust and most of all, love. I'd like to say that Dante and Ashton's story is my favorite but I'd be lying. I have no favorite because every book in this series thus far has gone beyond my wildest expectations. I find myself cranking up Soundgarden or Audioslave and my first thoughts are Dagger, Dante, Lincoln and Ashton in the studio. I can listen to Nickelback or Puddle of Mud and feel like I'm at an Ivory Tower concert with Alex, Wheland, Cooper, Tony and Jared blowing away the crowd. Yes, of course, like everyone else, I can't wait for Lincoln's story ~ I've a feeling it'll be a heartbreaker ~ I don't want to think about the Rock Gods coming to an end. No one mixes meaningful stories, sexy rockers and hot MM love better than Ann Lister. Fighting His Fire is absolutely a must read, the whole series is a must read!!! Thanks again Ann ~

Dante Dupont and Ashton Lane, guitarist and drummer for Black Ice, are definitely not having a good time. Forced into an intervention facility because their volatile relationship is disrupting the band, which makes it impossible for them to tour, or even be near each other. They are not allowed to leave until they resolve their animosity towards one another.

 photo tumblr_ms4d41J3q01rb40pco1_5001_zpsucvyhd7z.gif
Dante is angry at Ashton, the world, and himself. The therapist can see Dante’s anger and tries to break down his walls. Dante is trying to keep his past locked up tight, not wanting anybody to know what horrors he endured as a child. As Dante’s walls finally start to crack, Ashton’s heart breaks for him, and they finally start talking things out and recognize they really don’t hate each other at all. Once they leave the facility, they realize that they want to be with each other. Their relationship is intense and passionate. But can Ashton keep Dante from putting his walls back in place, and let the past stay in the past.

I really enjoyed the story of Dante and Ashton, finding themselves and each other. It is definitely a strong, passionate and emotional journey that ended with a cameo with some old friends. A great addition to the Rock God series and I honestly cannot wait to see what is next.

I feel like I have underestimated the importance of the bathrooms in my home... or anywhere else for that matter! *wink*

This book started with me thinking, "Okay, this one might not be for me." but it slowly grew on me... and I mean SLOWLY! *headdesk* LOL!!!

But, truth be told... by the end I was practically blubbering like a baby! What can I say, I get emotional at weddings or when two people who are perfect for each other finally pull their heads out of their asses and see that they have wasted precious time trying to hide from what is right in front of them! Not saying that Dante's and Ashton's issues weren't what was causing the chain reaction that had made the mess their lives had become... their issues were real! Abuse... whether mental, physical or sexual is wrong and it takes hard work and dedication to get to a point in your life that allows you to trust others, not only with your past but with your person. In my opinion, there is not a depth in Hell deep enough for people that abuse others and if there is a god... their punishment will be excruciatingly painful and eternal... just sayin'!

Along with my joy for Dante and Ashton, I find myself worrying about Lincoln and hope to get to read his story in the very near future... but, I guess I will have to wait and see what the reading gods have in store for me! ;D

Can Ashton handle Dante's Inferno?

Merged review:

Dante and Ashton
Explosive
Combustible

Fighting His Fire is book #6 in Ann Lister's
Rock Gods Series which follows band mates Dante and Ashton from "Black Ice"

I'll start off by saying this book was AMAZING, it drew me in from page 1.
Dante & Ashton's story is way different from the others in this series, their relationship is combustible very physical to the point of it effecting people around them and also to themselves making it dangerous.

We start off with both Dante and Ashton being duped into an intervention by their band leader Dagger, to say they are not happy about this and how they try to fight against it is putting it mildly. Both are very stubborn and the only way they seem to communicate is through fists and anger, but what we will all get to see is the reasoning behind their triggers and that in itself is a journey that you won't want to miss.

Dante DuPont has suffered a traumatic past that he can't seem to move on from, it is destroying him to the point he feels there is no way he can let go and move forward, this is where you will need tissues and your heart will pull at you. Ann took a very traumatic issue and brought it to light so brilliantly I can't say enough how spot on she was in writing about this subject , which unfortunately effects more people than we realize. It's not easy to write about such a touchy topic but I can't say it enough just how perfectly it was handled.
Dante has to come to a breaking point and reading it just broke my heart but following his recovery is something that will remain with me for a very long time.

Ashton Lane is young and his temper is volatile, always ready for a rebound mostly through use of his fists and jumping to the wrong conclusions is what puts him and Dante in the situation they are currently in, refusing to admit his feelings towards Dante makes for one explosive disaster after another.

When the walls are broken and Dante opens up about his past we get to witness a story of healing and coming together that is so beautiful but that does not come easy there is a lot of work to get through every step forward is two backwards there is angst and at times I wanted to scream then...... There was the sex and let me tell you WOW!!! Explosive is putting it mildly these two were HOT the chemistry between them was almost animalistic and occasionally we get to see the softer side peek through but be warned you will need a fan blowing on you during their sexy time.
Let's not forget the humor also I was laughing so hard at times at the banter between these two and also with the interaction from the other characters it was great how we were reunited with everyone.

"We're about to tear up another bathroom, aren't we?" Ashton panted before he took another kiss from Dante.
"I'll do my best not to break anything," Dante replied.
"I can't make that promise." Ashton smirked.
It only took seconds before the sounds in the bathroom escalated.

"I thought the intervention worked.
Are those two fuckers still fighting?
"The intervention did work," Dagger replied.
"Then why does it sound like they're on a killing spree?" Cooper asked.
"Give it a minute,
See I told you. The intervention worked wonders. However, it has driven up the costs of our room damages."

Well you get the drift on how explosive and scorching the chemistry is between these two.

I'll leave you all here because I do not want to give anything else away about this brilliant story so please if you are looking for a well written heartwarming beautiful sexy story go "one click" this baby now. And if you are new to the series grab your copies of books 1-5 you will not be disappointed.
I highly recommend this book ( and series) and am so anxiously waiting on the next book about Black Ice member Lincoln

Way to go Ann Lister another Brilliantly written story.

DNF. Let me say, that's a rarity for me--and very unexpected since I liked the other books in this series. But this one?

Warning: Spoilers ahead.

The premise is just too unbelievable. Two adults thrown together in an intervention center. Neither man wants to be there, but they're forced to stay against their will. Hell. Even DRUG REHAB isn't allowed to hold a person against their will without a court order.

Okay, but I decided to suspend my disbelief and try to read a little farther. And all I'm doing is getting seriously pissed off. "Held against their will. Held against their will." That's basically just circling over and over in my head. These guys don't want to work out their problems. They're obviously a danger to each other, yet no one does more than separate them after they come to blows. Then... the doc demands their phones--after they've been there for a full night. Here, I'm wondering WTF no one has tried to call the cops for a rescue.

And the rage just keeps building.

If it was me, I'd be holding a grudge until judgement day, yet these guys just... FOLD when a childhood trauma is forced out in the open despite both guys telling the doc to stop. That's just... no. No way. Right there is someone's medical license.

Things just make no sense after that. Two days after the big reveal, they're sent home. The end (of intervention). Seriously. No meds, no counseling, nothing. The doc just sends them on their merry fucking way.

My face is red and my heart is pounding with rage. I'm two seconds away from throwing my monitor across the room.

Dagger, the guy that lured these guys into intervention, calls. And, yeah, they tell him to fuck off... for a few days. That's it (for as far as I got into the novel). There's not even an attempt to say, "You've betrayed my trust by imprisoning me instead of trying to talk to me. You opened wounds that were none of your business. Why the hell didn't you respect me enough to give me a choice? Screw you. I quit the band. I quit our friendship. Never call me again."

That would have made for a sensible, yet interesting plot.

And then the two guys try to go on a date and restart their sexual relationship as if their issues were just a momentary lapse instead of a months-long grudge match influenced by emotional wounds that have been festering for more than a decade.

...

Then there's the BDSM component of their relationship...

*flip the desk*

*throw my hands up*

I'm done.

Oh holy hell of an inferno!!!!! I am needing a ice cold bath with ice cubes to cool off from Dante and Ashton!! Dante and Ashton captured my heart and consumed my interest from the first paragraph and I could not put my reader down until I couldn’t swipe anymore, even then, I just held it, closed my eyes and kept them in my mind for a long time (especially with Wheland, my favorite of all reads, was in the story and the four of them playing were instant combustion *fans self*).

Dante and Ashton were on the path to physical destruction of each other and would have killed each other if Dagger (lead singer of Black Ice, their band) hadn’t thrown them into a room and demand they fix the rift between them. Dante and Ashton are both fire driven and when these two come together, it is raw and explosive. Let’s just say rooms are ripped apart, literally. The desire and passion fuels these two men to the part you feel consumed and on fire feeling their story. Dante had locked away his painful, traumatic past of child abuse and with the help of the good Dr. Collins and Ashton, Dante is brought to live in the present and not be afraid to feel. Dante is also a life saving hero for Ashton at one point in the story. Ashton himself has abandonment issues but Dante was there to help heal that emotion. Ann is an amazing writer to bring to light real life abuse that unfortunately happens but does this so brilliantly. My heart ached for listening to Dante’s story but was filled with love with the strength of Ashton. When both of them come out of the weeklong lock down, they are emotionally and physically drained yet they realize they are each other’s heroes and life support and cannot breathe without each other. Dante and Ashton accept that love always conquers all.

What I enjoy about Ann Lister’s books is that her stories are so well written, that once you start reading the first page, you are captured in her characters and their story that you do not realize you have sat down to read a chapter or two but then a few hours have gone by when you realized you just read “The End,” and want to cry because you want to stay in their world forever. All her stories are worth multiple reads and Fighting His Fire is most definitely one of them. P.S. a combo story of Skull Blasters and these Rock Gods....OH MY!!!

Omg, I've been sitting on the edge of my seat waiting somewhat patiently for this book. I couldn't wait to get to Dante and Ashton's story. Ann definitely made it worth my wait. I loved Dante and Ashton. Two men who are thrown into an intervention, because all they do is fight, both with words and fists. They go too far when a Police Officer is injured. Will an intervention work? Will they be able to be civil to one another, and maybe even repair their damaged friendship?

Ashton and Dante are different than the other couples in the Rock Gods series. The attraction and chemistry is wild, bordering on animalistic. Dante and Ashton aren't sweet and tender. They are rough and tough, but the fire, love and passion they share still shines through brightly. They were also hilarious! I haven't laughed out loud while reading a book in a long time. This book dealt with a very serious subject matter, though. I'm not going to say what, but just that Ann handled the subject matter with grace and dignity.

I love Ann's writing. She pulls you in and holds you captivated, until you get to the ending. These stories are filled with passion, love, friendship and some major HOT man on man action. I can't wait for Linc's book!

Wow..I don't even know where to start! Ann you have done it again with Dante and Ashton's story.

We knew from the last book in this series, that Dante and Ashton had some serious issues with eachother. Once we find out why, it all makes sense.

Dante..oh how I love him. He is dealing with so much that no one knows about and because of that, this is the angry person we see. This intervention that he and Ashton were forced into, opened up so much wounds for the both of them. My heart broke for them..more for Dante.

Once all is revealed, we see their relationship slowly building. They are both so aggressive and dominant, that when they get together, its explosive!! Loved every minute of it :) Throughout it all, they still have insecurities. Do they have what it takes to move forward and be together? Will their past mess up their future? You have to read to find out!

I will say that Ann did an amazing job with this story. It's so much more than I expected and I loved it. It was great seeing the other guys as well and to see what they were up to. Now I am looking forward to Linc's book..Very interested in his story :)

I highly recommend this book, but I would start from book 1 because that's how much I LOVE this series!!

Fighting His Fire is the story of the drummer, Ashton Lane, and the lead guitarist, Dante Dupont, from the group Black Ice. I absolutely loved Dante and Ashton's story. Ann Lister gave me a story that I did not expect based upon the hints that were alluded to in the prior books in the series. The book Ms. Lister gave me was so much more, so much better than anything I expected. This book took me on an emotional journey that I will not forgot.

Every single time I pick up a book in The Rock Gods series it just gets better and better. I cannot wait to read Lincoln's story. Fighting His Fire is a fantastic read. One you will not be disappointed in. And yes, all of the guys are back from both bands, Black Ice and Ivory Tower. Very well done, Ann Lister.

It was a great book! Deserved 4-star rating!

I really liked the whole idea of the lock down, it was interesting and new. Being forced to talk about all the personal issues they have, helped them to knew themselves better and to find the way towards each each other. That helped me to be invested in their story, too. It was emotional and I liked both of their characters.

I've said it so many times but there is nothing better than a good banter between two enemies who then would become lovers. It never gets old and there is nothing sexier than that.

So, why I took one star away? Well, the fifth star is always about the butterflies. I have to feel them in my stomach while reading a book. And even though I really really loved the story and both MCs, I actually didn't felt those butterflies :(

Definitely my favorite!!

This is most definitely my favorite of Ann Lister's books. She is amazingly talented and every aspect of this book showed that. I love Dante and Ashton along with their struggles and strengths. Even loved the little bit of pulse pounding action and especially the humor that makes them unique from all the other rock gods. This is another book I will return to again and again.

I must say... Ann did a fabulous job with this book! She truly had me from the very first page to the last!

When I started to read this book I had no idea what direction this book was going to go. It had a pretty powerful start.
Ashton and Dante were truly out of control with each other.

As I was reading... I kept thinking to myself. How is the author going to fix this to where we feel like they truly do like each other.
Because... They were off and on throughout most of the book.

Dante's hot cold act was starting to get to me. He always seemed to make Ashton feel horrible by stopping and freezing him out at the worst possible time.
He really had a hard time opening up to Ashton. Which to a certain degree is understandable.
But... I think Dante should have known better that Ashton would never hurt him.

And Ashton was a go with the flow kind of guy. He would get angry. But at the same time knew when to give Dante space.

One thing I felt with both of them was that they both could have communicated a little better. There was a lot of guessing what the other was thinking or feeling and not a lot of asking or talking.
Which would lead to misunderstandings. ( I hate that in books)

I enjoyed Dante and Ashton together. The sex between them was pretty explosive and destructive (to bathrooms!...lol)
I loved it!

I felt some things felt rushed in this book like the whole attack on Ashton. That happened so late in the book and I felt it needed more info about it all.

This book deals with a pretty heavy topic. Dante had to deal with past in order to move forward with Ashton. I felt the author did a good job with that issue. It was pretty sad to read. But I'm glad Dante had Ashton to help him through it all.

Overall... I really enjoyed this book! I loved reading about all the other characters from past books. It just all makes it seem like they are all family.
I can't wait to read the next book in this series!

Dante and Ashton.
Band mates and members of Black Ice.
We last saw them at the end of book 5 being duped into an intervention
and pretty much locked in a room, together.

Their relationship and 80% of this book?

"Contentious. Volatile. Physical."

And lets not forget combustible and explosive!

These men are like live wires. They go anywhere near each other and sparks fly. They go to battle with each other both physically and mentally.
Sexually? The chemistry will threaten to burst your Kindle into flames!

"If you want me naked... you do it."

"Inside you, Ashes. That's where I need to be."

I'm serious people. HOT!
And did I mention the addition of a little voyeurism and bdsm?? You'll just have to read it for yourself!

There's hotness and lust, yes, but also vulnerability.
Dante has a past he's ashamed of and struggles with.
I enjoyed the tender moments we got from him, even when he wasn't quite sure how to deal with them.

"I'm not good with the tender side of this shit, Ashes, but for you I'll try just about anything to keep you in my bed."

I enjoyed Dante and Ashton's story as well as revisiting with old characters.
I look forward to finding out all about Linc in book 7!!

This is book 6 in The Rock Gods series which revolves around the members and SOs of two famous bands, Ivory Tower and Black Ice. The members are mostly friends and their bands often tour together. With the notable exception of the mmf in book 2, there's a whole lot of GFY breaking out amongst these guys, not that you'll hear me complaining. :-)

This installment centers on Dante and Ashton, the guitarist and drummer for Black Ice. They've been beating the crap out of each other, not in the fun, spanky kind of way, and no one can get them to stop or explain, so their band's leader throws them in a lockdown intervention facility to work it out or get out.

Okay, blurb over. With this book, we've got more GFY (yay!), seriously abusive past (boo!), HUGE communication issues (snores), and LOTS of hot, hot shenanigans! When these two finally stop trying to kill each other, they really burn up the sheets... and any nearby restroom. :-) There's a twist near the end, but it's not even close to the main plot, so the author with either get back to that later or not.

I took a star and a little off because this is book 6 and some of this felt very familiar. We had the intervention in the beginning, but the rest of the book didn't distinguish itself enough from the other books in the series to warrant a higher rating. Or maybe I've just read too many similar books from other authors, I don't know. Would I read Book 7, if/when it comes out? Definitely.

This was a very emotional read and the chemistry, as is always with Lister’s main characters, is at boiling point. This story was about communicating and how toxic this can be when it isn’t done when needed. I thought this was an interesting way to go, and I think we got a lot more of Dante than we did of Ashton’s past, but this was okay. I love the human elements Lister always includes in her books, the emotions are never compromised for drama. It always feels read and natural. However in this one I did think some things were rushed and some things glossed over. However this was still an enjoyable read and definitely a must read for fans of this series.

3 Stars to Dante & Ashton's Story

Dante & Ashton's Story goes from explosive where these two are beating the crap out of each other to explosive between the sheets. This is one hot book -- however, it lacks a lot of other plot besides the sex scenes. I want a story, and usually this series has delivered however this one fell a little short in the "story" department and instead all the pages were filled with hot as hell sex.

There was some stuff revealed, we get to learn about Dante and his past. We watch Dante and Ashton get to know each other..but that's pretty much it. Overall, I felt this story was lacking a bit and needed more. 3 stars

In the previous two books, it mentioned the Ashton and Dante were physically fighting over something that we didn't know what they were fighting about. As you read this book, you will find out what they were fighting about and had to go through an intervention to figure out their problems and be civil with each other. Since they understood their pasts together, they got in the process of working out their relationship...through A LOT OF SEX! I mean...HAWT SEX!!! Let's say...YUMMY!! This is a very good read!

I thought the previous 2 books in this series were emotional, but they had nothing on Dante and Ashton's story...pretty sure I had tears from the beginning!
My heart ached for both of these characters, as they dealth with things from their pasts.
These two were passionate, volatile, hot...the relationship was consuming!
I've loved each book in this series but I have to say this one is probably my favorite. It's so beautifully written, so captivating, completely engrossing!

Hands down my favorite of the series thus far! And that's saying a lot considering there isn't one I haven't liked yet. :)

Well, here we go again! What a great story and absolutely love Ashton and Dante. Their story is so poignant, their love for each other so raw-it was perfect. Ann Lister has this down to a science. This series deserves more than 5 stars!!!!!!
