This book is absolutely fantastic!

I loved each and every word. From the intense, descriptive, action to the hilarious banter among the pilots to the smoking hot love scene, I thought this was an awesome intro to the Wings of Gold series. (It is just that; an introduction, leaving many unanswered questions which probably get answered in the next book, which I completely expected)

I am about to start the next book in the series, Beyond the Call of Duty, and I just know it's going to be AMAZING!!!

An exciting short novella (free on Amazon) introducing this exciting new military romantic suspense series centering on Navy helicopter pilots. Eric and his co-pilot Kyle are in the air for last solo flight before graduation. Something goes seriously wrong and it's a miracle they both walk away to have their wings pinned on them the next day. Celebration is what you would imagine it to be and Eric ends up with a one-night stand that surprises him more than he would have thought. Now it's time to head to San Diego and whatever the future holds for this first-in-his-class pilot who appears to have some issues he's not telling quite yet.

I've already downloaded the first full novel in this series moving Eric's story forward. So far - so good.

It was a nice intro to what sounds will be a hot series, however the sex scene really put me off. The camaraderie among the pilots felt genuine and natural and only for that I'm willing to continue on to the first full-length novel, not to mention the angst some of the guys gave off was actually kind of relatable. And yet, that bam, wham, thank you ma'am sex scene felt oh, so very wrong. I like sexy reads and believe me I'm no prude but I just cannot get my mind off the fact that it felt like I was reading a porn and not a romance. Maybe that's my problem, I was expecting a romance and it obviously wasn't. I just hope the actual series don't leave me with the same feeling.

These two small stories are the first in the series.

In the first story, we meet the first hero who when we first met him and one of his best friends they were caught in an entire flock of birds struck their helicopter. It was touch and go but what a way to start a story and you get to know our hero and one of his best friends. You also get to know how the hero gets his nickname as well. You also get to know one of the women who go out looking for military men. We can only wonder where those wings will take our hero next.

In the next small story, our hero and his co pilot get called in to help a SEAL team in trouble. However, before they can get there, about half the SEAL team is injured and they need help. Our hero leaps out to go and help the team. Our hero was on the track team and picks up a soldier and away the whole team went. Almost to the helicopter and he ends up going down. They make it back to the helicopter and back to base. Our hero is rushed off to the hospital and then back towards his home base. Once he gets there, he finds himself face to face with his old girlfriend and our heroine. At first its tense and they get past the old hurts and then they get to know each other and its like they never left. Will they find happiness though? Will our hero be able to go back to a job he loves or will his injury limit him?

These were both pretty good. The second story was better than the first one because you got to know the history of the hero and heroine. Whereas with the first one, you got to know the hero but there really isn't a heroine in my opinion.

I can only wonder where the author is going with the series. I have to admit I read part of book 1 before reading this one.

First read of Tracy....Thanks for the free e-book.
Although a short book the characters were strong and will be good to see how they develop in the following books.
Navy pilots are a new area for me, but it seemed to be well informed about equipment and procedures etc., but no so mind boggling as to blind you with technical info.
What I read was good, just too short!

“Eightball Two-three” is an adult military novella by Tracy Tappan that is part of the ‘Wings of Gold’ series and gives a brief look at Eric O’Dwyer and Kyle Hammond as they begin the adventures that will characterize their relationship as each goes on to utilize the skills he has been taught. The dangers and complications of assuming anything will be run-of-the-mill are highlighted and Eric’s ability to improvise on the fly and keep his cool are demonstrated in a couple of diametrically opposite situations.

I don’t think I would categorize this work as romantic suspense although it does open with a breathtaking and exciting scenario. The delicious realism that allows the reader to share the pulse-pounding danger and experience what is happening in the cockpit of a helicopter makes this an intense read, and the euphoria of graduation juxtaposed with the glimpse of Eric’s background makes his subsequent experience even more poignant. This is a great quick introduction to a couple of larger-than-life characters and gives a tantalizing glimpse of elements of their respective characters, while detailing how O’Dwyer acquires his nickname, ‘LZ’. I suspect that, if I hadn’t already become a fan due to my enjoyment of “Beyond the Call of Duty” that stars this intrepid and sexy pilot, I would have joined this author’s fan club after reading this deftly written vignette.

A copy of this title was provided to me for review, a version of which was submitted to Night Owl Reviews.

Nightfall had me at the first page

Eric O'Dwyer's first helicopter first could have ended in disaster after he hits a flock of seagulls and he has to land hard. But both himself and he and his co pilot come out of it alive to graduate from flight school. The rumor around the local bar are that Leslie, a local school teacher picks a pilot from each class to become friendly with. When Eric graduates without his father attending, he decides that not just anyone should celebrate with him but that it should Jessica.

Cleared hot
Albert , who was Eric's roommate in Eightball two is now over pilot stationed on the USS Harry S Truman is called to extract a wounded SEAL Team off the coast of Iran. When he realizes the team is taking fire and can't make it the the LZ, he lands and races to their rescue, taking a bullet to his left leg. He's always regretted letting his high school sweetheart get away. Imagine his surprise when Jessica is asked by her brother to be his physical therapist at Walter Reed. They talk well into the morning getting to know each other again realizing that their love never died.

This is the first book by author Tracy Tappan that I have read but it won't be my last for sure. I got this book when I signed up for her newsletter that included a free book of hers and I have to say that I did put of off in the back on my kindle while reading some other books and what a mistake that was. I wish now after reading this that I would have done so sooner. See the old saying hind sight is 20/20 well this is true for me with this book. I had never really been one to read a military romance book before since I really didn't know any authors that had written them. Then I saw this post on Facebook and that changed everything for me. The post was a little blurb about this book and it said if you wanted more information to sign up for her newsletter so I did. And wow I am so glad that I took that chance on a what would be a new genre for me as well as a new author. And I can honestly say that I will be looking for more in this genre and more written by Tracy Tappan.

This book was after Beyond the Call of Duty in the Wings of Gold set. Had I read it first, I may have rated it higher. However I could not bring myself to enjoy a book with Eric being intimate with another woman!! I don't like descriptive OW scenes. I realize the timeline was before BYCOD and this was way before Eric met Nicole but it is after that book in the set! So this is as high as I could go!!

New Author

This the first book I have read by this author. I look forward to reading more of her books. She's got a lot going in her writing. I look forward to reading the next book. She knows her stuff for military romance, how much the men, women and their spouses need time for each other and the job at hand to protect the country and each other.

Never give up on your dreams. We follow a group of young men as they go through their training to become pilots and we learn what it takes to become the best. All of them are running from something to something. Their journeys won't always be easy but they will get to the end game.
A great short collection of high action and adventure.

Loved

I loved this and Cleared Hot a lot. I would have to say that these two novellas are in the same realm as Suzanne Brockmann. I will now be getting Beyond the Call of Duty.
