Her scars ran so deep, her soul had been severed in two. Michelene had killed and run—but not far enough, or fast enough. They’d found her.Azriel had but one rule. No attachments. This rule had kept him alive. He’d lived by it—until her. She’d found her savior in a man whose past was even darker than her own and whose soul held shadows of that dark. He made her body explode in ways she’d never imagined possible and gave her heart something she’d long given up... hope.Michelene was his saving grace. The only thing which kept the darkness from consuming him. She was his to protect and cherish.God help anyone who challenged that--because Vengeance would be wasn’t time to cringe. In a split second, she saw something flash in her mystery man’s eyes—something dark and deadly. Sensing he was about to move, her hand shot to his shoulder, her heart pounding as she tried to communicate her desperate plea with her eyes. “Please don’t."The panic that was squeezing her throat wasn’t because she was afraid for Vic; she could care less about that greasy pig. Nor was she concerned this man could be hurt. She knew she couldn’t afford scrutiny. She’d managed to be virtually unseen for four years; it had to remain that way. It was amazing this man didn’t know who she was. “Vic’s an ass, but he’s harmless.” Her words weren’t moving him in the least. There was no visible change in his manner, but Michelene sensed he was growing more pissed, more dangerous. “He’s never laid a hand on me.”That worked. She felt his tension drain a bit, while he stared pointedly at where her hand rested on him. She didn’t move it. Slowly, he turned those ghostly eyes back to her face. “If he talks to you like that again, I will end him.”Would most women feel the same thrill she did at his words? Not having much experience with “normal” people, Michelene really couldn’t say. But she certainly felt thrilled right down to her toes. Pussy clenching, she knew she needed to put a little space between them before she did something that would garner even more attention. Before it came to that, she tried to move, but found her arm caught in a vise made of hot flesh.“Your name,” he growled, his piercing glare keeping her rooted to the spot every bit as much as his hold.“Michelene,” she whispered back, not even considering giving him a fake name. Besides, she was sick of not being herself. There was something about him, a danger, a certain “off-ness” that called to her, told her she could be herself around him.“Nice to meet you, Michelene.” There went that smile again. Just that tiny sign of approval succeeded in melting her formerly icy insides. “I’m Azriel Seth.”
Shara is- well let's just say touched. Born a Marine brat, Shara is a Navy Veteran with a pathological love for men in uniform, chocolate, and heroes that are maybe a touch psychotic. With over seventy-five books in her backlog, Shara has no intention of slowing down any time soon. She's definitely not safe for work, or the kids, or- you know what? She's just not safe.
WoW!!! This book blew my mind! In a way it reminded me of Ruthless People by J.J. McAvoy. But in this one you get even more insanity. This book is definitely one of my new favourites! If you've read Ruthless People, then you know that this story might not be for everyone, like people who don't like violence and abuse. But seriously, I just couldn't get enough of Azriel and Michelene. They are both out of their ever loving minds and I freaking loved it! Hell yes!
This story had multiple POVs but the one that I couldn't get enough of was definitely Azriels.
Yes, he's a professional killer... Yes, he's a certified sociopath... Yes, he's the monster in the dark... And yes, I absolutelly LOVED HIM!!!
Why? Well, the answer is quite simple actually. Once he sees 'his' Michelene, his whole life becomes her. And let me tell you, you do not wish to come between what's his, because I can guarantee you that won't life long enough to tell about it. And the same goes for anyone who dared to harm her in the past.
That man is hot, hot, hot!!! And I don't blame Michelene for wanting to take a piece of him, no, not a bit! In her place, I'd do exactly the same! Just thinking of what he's capable of outside the bedroom, not to mention once he gets his strong alpha hands on you, makes all hot and bothered. ;)
He looked like a cardinal sin, one she was going to love committing. ...She craved that power. Craved his darkness.
And, oh man, did she really! You think Azriel is cray cray, wait till you meet Michelene! I'm not sure who scares me more, she or him. With him you at least know to a point where you stand BUT with her, it's like she's this black hole that will slowly suck you dry of all your life energy and you won't even notice it till it's too late! Now, that I'd call a scary motherf*****! Oh yeah!!!
Here was a man who wouldn’t hesitate not only to kill for her, but help her kill anyone she felt needed killing. Quite simply the perfect man for her.
Now, if that doesn't trigger your alarm systems, then I don't know what will?! But in the end, that didn't matter to me. I enjoyed their story and if you want to read it, too...well, then I welcome you to our craziness.
This was an interesting read. Fairly short, but a lot going on. It picked up with Azriel obsessing over Michelene, whom he did not know and had never met. This is completely out of character for him. Their lives are actually intertwined, which you get as part of the suspense plot.
I liked Azriel - A LOT. Yes, he is a psychopath and a killer. But we can't all be perfect! I loved how he chastised himself over being pussy-whipped, among other things. His inner monologues about his feelings were hilarious. Michele was harder to get to know. She may also be a psychopath, or just severely damaged from a traumatic childhood. While very attracted to Azriel, sometimes I felt she was using him for physical security. It was really hard to "feel the love". I am not saying she did not love him, but she was harder to read and her inner monologue was not as on point as his. But I did love her acceptance of his obsession. It made for a much nicer story that there was ZERO relationship drama between the couple. He took her, she was his, period. And she did not cry and moan about it. That was refreshing.
I thought about rating this higher, but I just couldn't. The book had hot sex, but lacked relationship scenes. Instead we got intrigue and murder or discussing her terrible childhood. I would rather have gotten to see them fall in love.
Wow. So…I’ll freely admit that the thought of this book didn’t send shivers of excitement down my spine. I was extremely skeptical about it and that I would enjoy it. But Nikki insisted (and used it for her PIFY pick this month) so…I read it. I can report that it was good. I mean, read it in one sitting good. But even as I say that, it was missing that certain je ne sais quoi that I found in Nero, so while this was good…it was no Nero.
And honestly, I don’t know what was missing for me.
I enjoyed the start of the story, how you’re thrown right in and you find out that she’s got a stalker and her stalker has a stalker to keep her safe from said stalker. So of course, I’m intrigued. And for a book that was on the short side (but not horrible short) you do learn quite a bit about the characters (at least Azriel) pretty quickly. I was intrigued by him, what made him tick…and maybe that was part of the problem for me…that even though you learn about him and his childhood and family pretty quickly, I never felt like I really got to know him. I knew how he was raised, how he was with his parents, how he was attracted to Michelene while hating that he was obsessed with her and wanting her to be his…yet I didn’t feel like I actually got to know him.
The same could be said for Michelene. Her past was hinted at in terms of how awful it was, but you don’t find out right away what happened. I was ok with that, the delay in finding out served it’s purpose but at the same time, I guess I felt like I didn’t really get to know who she currently was and her current life outside the past. The things she’d dealt with since going into hiding.
Actually, while I read, I kept comparing this book to a book I’d read forever and a day ago, that had a similar theme (hiding from people that wanted to kill her)…and how this one lacked depth to the story for me. But like I said…it wasn’t all bad. I DID enjoy this.
Anyone that’s read Nero, or my review, knows that I loved the fact that once Nero fell for Elle, he was über protective and willing to dish out vengeance on Elle’s behalf. And I also loved that aspect of this book. I loved how Azriel’s plan came together and that the bad guy’s got what was coming to them.
One thing I found distracting about this book was the names of the characters. I’m sure the author had specific reasons to choose the ones she did, but they just didn’t fit the characters for me.
Even though I had a few issues with this book, I did love Azriel and wanted to know more about him…but I’ll be honest and say that the person that jumped off the page and took hold of me was Michelene’s brother Pierre. For me, he was a guy I wanted more of…I want to see him fun his family’s business, make it his own and find a HEA…while exuding alphaness and distributing vengeance on behalf of his lady love who is in trouble of her own. So I seriously hope the author writes him a book!
There’s a big chasm between the land of the bad boy and the land of the creepy psychotic serial killer maniac.
One land has sexy, misunderstood boys that are a balance between aggressive/alpha and sweet/cuddly bear. It’s a fragile balance that can only be maintained by the true heroine, in which once found leads to the land of Happily Ever After.
The other land has dark, sinister boys that enjoy the crimson beads of blood that glides down a victim's lifeless skin. These boys can be sexy, but they’re ice and bone, and only find real joy behind a scope or with steel pressed inside their palms. The boys living here creep and stalk and become obsessive over their heroine, who, unlike before, is not the balance, but the straw. Happily Ever After is the grave.
It’s rare for an author to pull off the land of “creepy psychotic serial killer maniac,” although I’ve seen it done, this was not one of those times. The male lead (can’t remember his name) was not sexy and misunderstood; he was straight crazy. The heroine had a lot of baggage and honestly deserved someone that wasn’t gonna be borderline abusive.
The whole book was a creep fest. From her crazy cougar mother to her crazy pedophile father and her craziness. The epilogue was cringe worthy, and both of them were honestly certifiable. She needed counseling, and he needed a straight jacket.
But if you're looking for smut then you'll love it...maybe.
3.0 RATING- Vengeance had the rough framework for what could have been a pretty good read, if you like crazy, obsessive, stalker hero's. Unfortunately, it just wasn't fleshed out enough to rate higher for me, even as a complete guilty pleasure. The story wasn't developed as much as it could have been and I think that's more due to the writing then the shorter, novella length (99 pages). There were some editing issues as well.
Still, for readers short on time and willing to accept just an okay OTT alpha story, Vengeance may work. I don't think it makes since for readers that don't have Kindle Unlimited though. The $4.99 price tag at Amazon is crazy.

This book is so not what I was expecting, but exactly what I wanted. I've been in a weird book mood lately. I want to read about Über possessive, borderline psycho, maybe a little stalkerish heroes that love their ladies. Extra hard. It's a lot harder to find a book that meets those qualities and doesn't come with the BDSM or extra dark erotic tag as well. So I saw some reviews of Vengeance and that its on Kindle Unlimited so I thought I'd give it a try. Perfection! It had everything I was looking for, with the added bonus of twists I didn't see and some good ol fashion revenge murder! It really appealed to that bloodthirsty side ;) Oh, and did I mention the smoking hot sex?! Oh yes. This book hit all the right spots and I'm so happy I read it! If this author's other books are anything like this one, I'm all over them!
Mildly dark book, with an alpha hitman for a hero, and a heroine with a dark past that she is running from. This was a fast read with no cliffhanger and all loose ends are tied up without complication. I enjoyed reading it. It was a good book to pass the time with.
This was not what I was expecting from a 100 page book. I got so much more bang for my buck with this story. Although a lot happened in such a short time, I in no way felt rushed.
Azriel is a hired killer. And a sociopath. Maybe even a psychopath? But what was normal for him drastically changed when he found Michelene. He becomes obsessed with her. He stalks her when she already has a stalker. Good thing he's stalking her to protect her from the real psycho lol. They officially meet, fall in love, and live HEA. The end. NOT!! There is so much more to this story. The killing alone is worth the read. Oh, and the sex scenes. Cannot forget those! Hot!! Azriel is such a dirty talker. But his inner monologues are what captured me. This man was continuously baffled by how "pussy-whipped" he was. Too cute.
I think this is only my 2nd interracial book in my list of reads and like the other one, I'm glad colour was the least of the author's focus. It's mentioned but it isn't dwelt on. Thanks for that Shara Azod!!
I gave this book a 2 star rating because it was intriguing enough to finish but I was close to dnfing several times. First off there were way too many spelling errors, spell check should not be the only resource used for editing! Secondly, there was not enough background information, character and relationship building, I felt like the important things were glossed over that created a bad disconnect. I could not come to care for Michelene even though her childhood was horrific because of it. Vengeance had a mystical feel, I liked the premise of the story and Azriel was delicious. I just would of liked a little more meat to it.
Azriel was truly amazing in this story. To know the type of person you are and not apology for it completely sexy. There was so msny parts in this story were I had to laugh and shake my head at him. That kind of obsession can be scary but it also can make you feel like no one will ever hurt you because he will not allow it. I must see what else Shara has written.
Very good story from beginning to end! Love the characters and it seemed that Azriel and Michelene were made for each other. Love the backstory of her family. Would recommend. It is a nice read.
I was an enjoyable read, but definitely not a book I'll pick up more than once. Shara Azod is great at creating deliciously alpha heroes, however Azriel didn't quit work for me.
The fact that he was a psychopath and unable to feel affection was very interesting. That piqued my curiosity and was a great angle! Unfortunately Shara didn't delve into it too much. I found myself disappointed at how fast things got in motion; I prefer when the story allows for the sexual tension to build. Michelene was passable, I mostly skipped through her sob story. I didn't care much about that. I also found myself distracted by that typos that were peppered all throughout the book.
A quick read for a Friday Night, but rather forgettable.
Its so rare to find everything i want in a hero to find in one book and i did with this one! i love my heroes to be crazy obsessed. I want them to stalk the heroine but only want her and only her. I want them to be dark and scary but to also treat the heroine like she is a queen. And i found everything in this book! i honestly cannot tell you how much i love this!
The reason for 4 stars is because i paid $6.00 AU for this book and its quite short and it doesnt even have an epilogue. I found that to be a bit excessive and i think its way too expensive for how short the book actually is.
I 😍 every 📕by Shara Azod, but Vengeance is my absolute fave! I strongly encourage you to check the TWs because this story is not for the faint of heart! 😘 Azriel is a 💯alpha apex predator hitman who is darkness personified😲His only light is his sweet Micheline & anyone who tries to get between him & his lady love , can expect to be unalived! Micheline had a terrible childhood with parents from hell, and Azriel was her savior & avenging angel!💃🍷
Gobbled this book up in one sitting! I was in the mood for a book that was to the point and fast moving after reading a really slow burn book and this satisfied me immensely! This book is a bit on the dark side and revolves around violence.
Triggers and safety warnings: - h was abused sexually as a child/minor - H is a hired hit-man - Off page prostitution/rape/slavery (mentions) - No OW/OM drama - No cheating

I enjoyed this book a lot. I’m usually not a fan of shorter books, I always feel like they either gloss over too much or I’m so engrossed in the story that I want more, but this book didn’t leave me with either feeling. I really liked that the H and h understood each other and they each gave each other what they needed. Also who doesn’t want an Azriel in their corner?! What a fun (and dark) book! I wouldn’t mind seeing more of these characters.
I was sucked in from the beginning! So many questions to pursue... who was she? Why was she hiding? Who were the men stalking her and why? The mysteries were all revealed along with the love and passion shared between Azriel and Michelene. This was crazy good and I could not put it down until completion. Shara Azod never disappoints!
I enjoyed the storyline. It was unique and the action and adventure kept me wanting more. Sometimes, there is a book that you don't want to end. This was that book for me.
Ill be nice and say this was 3.5 stars for me!! Book rant coming on!!!
Now my 3.5 star review is being generous because really the fact that the author basically didn't do what I fee like is her job as an author and she just left me feeling pissed really because this book had the power to suck me in but I was only really able to get in maybe waist deep when really what I wanted to do was drown and fight to come up for air!
This book had the promise of being an amazing 5 star read but sadly it fell so short! First the book was damn short it's like the author didn't want to do any of the hard work of creating and weaving this story properly! Which was really sad and disappointing because this book had so much potential to be amazingly beautiful!
The characters and the storyline that we did get would have been so great had they been given the time and care the way they should have been given! You know there's a real problem when u think of all the ways u could have written the book better!! I really pray that this author sits down and rewrites this story because it has such promise! It makes me seriously want to go and write this story myself!! (Which I might just do to satisfy myself smh).
For me I felt the characters could have had such chemistry and passion had they been given the chance to develop the way they needed instead so much was glossed over. The details weren't given it was basically like reading the outline for the story with some dialogue and minor details thrown in so u could see how the story could turn out but u don't actually get the story! So sad really!!
Loved Azriel and Michelene there was so much there but for me it was mostly in my imagination because I didn't get it from this author..
Not much else to say except that I'm greatly disappointed in this book and it's going to haunt me now and NOT in a good way!! I seriously don't think it'll leave me until I try and write my own version to satisfy myself and give myself something to drown in!
What makes a good writer? Someone who can weave a compelling tale. Who can make you picture a character, scene or emotion with the power of prose. The IR genre has few writer who can accomplish this and Shara is one one of the few. I should not like Azriel. He's a vicious psychopath who enjoys killing and is the type of boogie man you would not even want to meet in the light of day, yet his viciousness is written so Aloha male dark and forbiddingly sexy he would make a nun wet her starched bloomers. Michelene, LoVE her! She is not some simpering damsel in distress. She is not some virginal protected princess who has been licked away in some imagined untouchable tower. She is a woman who like all has a dark past but that we all sometimes wish would never see the light of day. The plot was excellent, the chemistry which I know there will be a GenXer and older Reviewer who will bitch and moan about they slept together too soon blah blah I need a 3 week rule blah blah or where is the political statement about race blah blah barf, was the type of chemistry you had when you met that hot guy at the club, gym wherever and decided you were gonna wildly get acquainted wit him in the back of his truck..... (Amazon blocked me from saying something else) ........If you've never done that, my condolences and this book is NOT for you so keep it moving. Well done recommended.
3 Stars - This book had potential but it was too short so the characters seemed flat. I wanted to know more about them before they met because there were quite a few interesting secondary characters. Azreil was right on the line from being alpha to being too alpha. Some readers may like that but me, not so muchh. Azriel Seth is a cold unfeeling killer for hire and is his own boss. While following a target, he comes across Michelene and immediately is consumed with watching her and following her but not admitting why he's doing it. He sees that there is another man that is following her and decides to make her his. Not able to watch how her work treats her, he drags her out and to one of his homes. Now that he has her, she is his and he'll never let her go. When he finds out that she's a daughter of a powerful leader in the cartel business, he knows he'll have to deal with them to keep her. He also finds out that Michelene's father molested her and later her mom used to charms to make business deals. Azriel sets a trap that the killer and her Mom will come to his house so they can be killed. After that it's the end of the book.
OMG!!! WOW!!! EXPLOSIVE!!! What did I just read? Totally effing AWESOME!! Not sure or why the low ratings but this book was intense and grabbed you from the word go! There was nothing wrong with this story. The blurb should have let you know that this beautiful, wonderful, focused intense, assassin was not playing around! Azriel found his destined mate Michelene and was not dicking around! He stalked her (in a good way people, but is there a good way to stalk? Lol). Anyway he laid claim to her immediately and laid down all of her ghosts painstakingly and with torturous pleasure. Not to be dismissed is Michelene who knew from the start that Azriel never meant her no harm and that she could finally be safe! Kudos to Azod for describing a woman of color so eloquently!
