Victoria

Only Death Could Stop Her Now
The Huntress now becomes the Hunted

The Daughters of Darkness is a series of female heroines who may or may not know each other, but all have the same father, Vlad Montour.

Victoria is a Hunter Vampire, one of the last of her kind. She's the best of the best.
When she finds out one of her marks is actually her sister she let's her go, only to end up on the wrong side of the council.
Forced to prove herself she hunts her next mark, a werewolf. Injured and hungry, she is forced to do what she must to survive. Her actions upset the ancient council and she finds herself now being the one thing she has always despised -- the Hunted.

‘Tori’ has no other option but to run. She’s disappointed the Council, attacked and killed an Elder and now Vlad, her abysmal father, is determined to find her.
When secrets of the past reveal themselves, she finds herself at a crossroad.
Unsure of which way to go, she must trust in other supernaturals to help guide her—something she has never allowed before.
Forced to go against other Hunter vampires, she is backed into a corner where her only way out is to fight, or die trying.

This is Tori's story by W.J. May. It is book 2 in the Daughter of Darkness; Tori's story. As a courtesy, the author wishes to inform you this novella does end with a cliffhanger. The next book coming out in early Autumn (or sooner) will continue the story.

Wanita May grew up in the fruit belt of Ontario - St.Catharines. Crazy-happy childhood, she always has had a vivid imagination and loads of energy.

The youngest of six -- four older brothers, and a sister -- taught her at a young age to be competitive in all aspects of life.

At sixteen, she began competing in athletics (track and field) and before she turned seventeen, she was representing Canada in high jump. She continued to compete, breaking Canada's JR High Jump record (1.92m - 6' 3 1/2" for those metric-ly challenged). She attented University of Toronto, and Kansas State University - winning CIAU's and becoming All-American 6x - NCAA Indoors Runner Up + more.

But you're not interested in her athletic career - unless of course you're curious to know she stands 1.70m (5'7") and has jumped 20cm over her head on more than one occassion. She's represented Canada at the World Championships, World Jrs., won Francophone Games, and loved every minute of every competition. From the grueling workouts, the crazy weights she lifted on her back, the days she thought her lungs were going to spit out of her mouth for lack of oxygen, the travelling around the world and the opportunity to read - her favourite past time.

Life continued with her husband (a distance runner from Liverpool, UK, who she met at KSU) and then their first, then second and finally third child. Their house became full of more imagination and stories.

Wanita and her husband run an online business, dealing in antiques and collectables - particularly jewelry and porcelain (one of the business' website: www.wadeincanada.com ).

After her father passed away in 2009, from a six-year battle with cancer (which she still believes he won the fight against), she began to write again. A passion she'd loved for years, but realized life was too short to keep putting it off.

Her first book, Rae of Hope - from the Chronicles of Kerrigan - will be available October 2011 by kNight Romance Publishing.

She is currently represented by Dawn Dowdle of Blue Ridge Literary Agency. Wanita is a writer of Young Adult, Fantasy Fiction and where ever else her little muses take her.

I have had this book at 80% done since it released. I decided to finish it. I really soul don't have wasted my time.

The story line is decent, and I really wanted to like this. This is going to be a 4 book series with each book written by a different author. The books will feature the daughter's of The Prince of Darkness (Vlad Montour). This one features Victoria, a Hunter Vampire. I love paranormal romance and am really easy to please when it comes to books from the genre.

The dialog is so flat, boring, and feels emotionless. The writing itself feels young and too simplistic. The whole story just feels lacking. With rewrite and an editor this could be much better. Some parts need to be more explained, others need to be trimmed. This is a cliffhanger.

I received a copy of this book from the Hurricane Readers Review group in exchange for an honest review.
I am loving this series! It just keeps getting better and better. Victoria is a bada** huntress who comes to realize that she has been played by her father her whole life. She learns many things about her family and friends that change everything. She finally opens up her heart but is it too late? I can't wait to read Coveted, the next part of the series!

Following the storyline to its conclusion, I decided to stick with Victoria, the Vampire/Werewolf assassin/enforcer. Yes, sounds charming, but the whole story revolves around her finding out that there is a whole side to her, that is actually much more companionable than the initial label. There are four volumes to the story of this character, but just for once I did not mind.

Not as good as book 1 . . .

3.5 stars

I didn't really like the narration for this book and maybe that's why I didn't like it as much. But this book had more content, and more aspects of the story make sense . . . maybe it was the narration.

Review:

This is not the first book that I have read by W.J. May and it certainly won’t be the last. I love the “Badass” women that May portrays in her stories.
Victoria is the Vampire daughter of the Prince of Darkness. She is also a trained hunter killing supernatural beings that the council run by her father no longer wants around. As the story continues, mysterious changes occur. Victoria is not the same person that she was just days ago. Mentally she is questioning the way she has blindly done her father’s and the council’s bidding for all these years. Is there way the right way? Physically she has become better, she can now walk in daylight and there is something more amazing.
The plot has Victoria and her friends trying to find the answers to the changes affecting Victoria. While trying to retrieve an ancient book at the vampire's library they are trapped by hunters who are set to kill Victoria and her friends. A mysterious vampire that Victoria has never seen before comes to their aid. Now more secrets are revealed, and they affect Victoria’s new friends and her longtime partner.
The chemistry is starting to pick up in this story, the mysterious vampire adds an interesting twist. The pacing has not let up. This second book keeps up with the action and drama. Again this is a series, and once again there is a cliffhanger. These characters are developing and changing from book to book. I can’t wait to see where this story goes.

~~~~~~~~~~Tracy's ★★★★ Review~~~~~~~~~~
Huntress picks up right where Victoria left off, reading Victoria first is highly recommended. Victoria "Tori" has been lied to her entire life and the lies are unraveling now that she is no longer under her father Vlad's control anymore. There is a bounty not only on her head but the people who have come into her life and who have now become her family. Will Tori realize too late who really is there for her and will she survive the hordes of hunters that have been sent out to exterminate her?
I liked how this book just began where the last one left off. I am not a big fan of cliff hangers so that is the only reason I did not give this 5 stars. The story and complex characters really held my attention and left me craving more of Tori and her band of friends. Secrets were revealed in this book that left me sitting there stunned and with my mouth hanging open in shock. W.J. May is a very talented writer who inspires imagination and creativity in all who read any of W.J.'s books. The next book in the series will be out early Autumn and I cannot wait to read it.
Loved this book. Tori is a very interesting, strong, capable character. She is an exceptionally skilled hunter for the Vampire Council. She has many marks she has successfully hunted and terminated. That is until one mark turns out to be Tori's half sister. In a life changing second, Tori lets her mark escape. The Council are enraged and turn their favoured Huntress into the Hunted. Tori must fight previously known friends and those who want her dead. The only way to save her life also changes Tori forever. She must learn quickly to adapt and her fighting skills to survive.
This story has a good twist on the basic Vamp novels. The paged are turned quickly as you want to know what happens next. The other characters draw you into the plot too as you try to figure out just who means to help or cause harm. I am off to read the next in the series as I am eager to find out what happens next. I would recommend this author, really enjoyed this story. Reviewed on behalf of WTMO Reviews.
This book was fantastic. The writing was excellent. The writing made you feel like you were living out the story yourself.
"Tori" has only one way out of being hunted by her father and that is killing him herself. But before she can get to him, she is contacted by her sister. Her sister and herself are on the run from the death sentence of their father. They team up to carry out one task they never would have thought they would have to do. In order to survive their father will have to die. But it isn't as easy as they thought.
Tori has her "friends" by her side. She is afraid that someone will get hurt, so she sends them all away. But will the one person she cares for, be there in the end.
These are just tidbits to the book that peeked my interest. The whole book was fantastic though.
I don't love it but I don't dislike it. Entertaining. Victoria and Finn are funny. The climax felt rushed and unexplained. Overall a good relaxing read. Will continue with the series and see where this goes.
