Parker Watson’s life in New York is perfect. He’s thriving in his dream job as a social media expert, helping stars and starlets whose private lives are threatened by the press. The last person he expects to see in his office, however, is hockey star Evan Sinclair. The same man who left him broken-hearted when he chose his career over Parker. Now Parker is supposed to save that career. But who will protect Parker’s heart in the process?
Athletic success, fake dates, endorsement deals. Evan Sinclair has everything he needs to maintain his image as a supermasculine, straight hockey player. But all his success is on the line once a blackmailer threatens to expose his sexuality. Having to rely on his former secret boyfriend is harder than Evan could have imagined. Because even after all these years, his attraction to Parker hasn’t faded.
The more time the two spend together for PR, the harder it becomes to resist each other. But Parker is determined never to let himself be so vulnerable around Evan again. Just as Evan finds the courage to trust Parker and offer him more than just steamy nights, an accident threatens to tear Parker away from Evan’s life for good…

Welcome to the New York Monarchs—a fictional hockey team in the most beautiful city in the world. Get to know the players on their journeys to self-discovery and love as the team makes its way toward the Cup.
Each volume in the New York Monarchs series is a standalone novel, but you’ll find familiar faces throughout the series.
Almost a decade after their breakup, Evan and Parker find themselves thrown back together when Parker is brought in to help save Evan’s hockey career after paparazzi photos expose him with another man. And of course, all those old feelings come rushing back.
Their road to a happy ending definitely had some hiccups, especially with Evan struggling with the fear of what coming out could mean for his career. But despite all the angst and hurt, their story was ultimately just really sweet, and I loved seeing these two find their way back to each other.

I enjoyed this one, even if I didn’t completely fall in love with it.
It has a lot of the ingredients I usually enjoy: second-chance romance, hockey, old feelings, forced proximity through work, and lots of unresolved tension.
Their chemistry was convincing, and I liked seeing them deal with the hurt left behind when Evan chose his career over their relationship.
At times, though, the emotional push and pull felt a little repetitive, and I wanted a bit more depth in certain moments instead of another round of misunderstandings. Some of the later drama also felt more intense than necessary for me.
Still, Parker and Evan were easy to root for, and the more vulnerable scenes worked well.
Overall, this was an enjoyable MM hockey romance, I had a good time reading it and would be open to continuing the New York Monarchs series.
Parker and Evan are forced back into each other’s lives after 8 years apart. I can’t remember right now how long they were together the first time but for some reason I’m thinking it was 2 years but don’t quote me… After having a secret relationship for 2 years (maybe) in college they break up because well NHL and gay don’t mix. Parker heartbroken. Evan heartbroken. But life moves on. Parker work for a social media management company designed to redirect your social media mistakes into hey let’s forget about that bad thing and look at all this good! Evan after being caught with man is being blackmailed and his crappy manager forces him to go to the social media manager pay a blackmailer and fake date a female celebrity. What he didn’t expect was Parker to be in charge of fixing his image. Parker walks through the door and 8 years felt like 8 seconds. They are barely alone for a minute before they are making out. But pressures of work, being closeted, having a crappy manager, working for jerks (Parker not Evan. Evan’s coach is great), lying to your family, hiding yourself from your team, having your teammate fall in love with your fake celebrity girlfriend.. Will Parker and Evan survive this second change romance?
This is the story of Evan Sinclair and Parker Watson. Evan is a professional hockey player who has the perfect life. He has his dream job, endorsements and hockey success. His world is thrown into disarray by a blackmailer who threatens to let the whole world know that Evan is gay. Cue the absolute panic. His agent arranges help through an agency that specializes in helping stars and starlets whose private lives are threatened by the press. This is where Parker comes in. Parker is a social media expert and very good at his job. The two meet unexpectedly to deal with this crisis. Evan is maintaining that he is not gay and his agent seconds that opinion. The only problem with that story is that Evan and Parker were in a relationship eight years earlier. So Parker knows that Evan is either gay or bisexual. He also remembers how it felt when Evan chose hockey over them. A gay man can't be a professional hockey player was the reasoning behind it. This is their story. The book is written well and is easy to read. The road back for both them has challenges. This is a new to me author and I enjoyed the book.
Evan and Parker have the best second chance romance in this beginning to a new hockey romance series! They meet by chance at Parker’s work, and the connection is still there, Evan has always thought about him and missed him and vice versa. It takes time, care and communication but they get to a good place again. Though hockey still means they are a secret, but Evan hates it, and he’s ready, but can he do it?
Oh this is like episode three of Heated Rivalry in the best way, their love is amazing, their road back together is perfect, the obstacles are real world too. Sports are not kind to same sex couples, locker room humour is not kind either, while it takes a huge push to get Evan in a place where he knows he needs to not keep it a secret anymore I’m happy he got there in the end.
I cannot wait to see there this series goes as I really loved this couple and the consent King that is Evan and the sweetheart that is Parker!

While the writing was a little awkward in places and some of the logic didn't play out quite right, I really enjoyed this one. I liked both Parker and Evan (as well as all of the supporting characters) and I felt for both of them as they struggled with what being gay meant for Evan's hockey career.
Evan really struggled, and there was a lot of back and forth as he faced his fears of coming out with what that would mean for his career, his family, his team, and his friends. The poor man was a neurotic ball of stress. And poor Parker who couldn't deal with what it meant 8 years ago, finding a way through it again.
This is the first for me from Wilms but it won't be my last. It is steamy and a bit angsty and all sorts of emotional. I rooted for them from the first page to the last and I was so happy for them to find their HEA.
**I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.**
I loved the rebuild of the relationship between Evan and Parker. A second chance at something they thought they lost.
There was a real depth to the characters. You could really feel the struggle that both of them went through to find their happiness.
The fear of not having control over your own life, for not being able to be who you are, but also the impact that this can have as the partner of someone going through this. How the fame industry plays into this.
The pace of the book was really good as well. There was plenty happening, and it was really story driven which kept me wanting to turn the page.
I enjoyed this book. Both characters went on a journey of figuring out what they really want (besides each other, because they really really want that). I love a good second chance romance. This one has a closeted character with some angst about coming out / forced outing.
I liked the side characters too in this one. Strong friends that show up even if you don’t know you need them, who are there for you even when you are grumpy and try not to be friends with them.
A good read overall!
I received an ARC of this book from GRR. This is my honest and voluntary review.
Thank you for the book, here is my honest opinion: I liked the characters quite a bit, Parker is lovely and Evan has a good character arc. It also has some good side characters and I especially appreciate a few good female characters. The plot was not my favorite, however. I just have really so many closeted hockey player romances at this point, a trope I maybe have grown tired of and this one is pretty standard. The characters are what stood out for me and I did enjoy their HEA.
Interesting plot and characters, I found myself particularly attached to Parker. He was sweet and head over heels with Evan (closeted hockey player). Overall it was good but I found it all very quick and would have liked a little more growth between the MMCs, it felt very instant with a bit of acknowledgement of their past. I'm interested to see the next in the series.
I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.
This was a cute read. I enjoyed getting to see how characters were able to develop. I appreciated the theme of people needing to focus internally to be happy rather than being focused on or worried about what others will think.
He has made his way to where he wants to be as he helps others, and his life is good until they reappear in his life. They need help, his help is what they need but he will keep his heart all locked up after the first time. Things will get complicated for them both and so follow them to see where they will all go
This is Parker and Evan's love story. I think I am a bit burnt out on closeted hockey players. During a time when real-life hockey teams are protecting r*pists and doubling down on problematic machismo, I prefer hockey romances where sexuality is more widely accepted, maybe even a bit cozy. Their story had a lot of positives and there were some decent side characters to round it all out.
I absolutely enjoyed this book very much. Thank you to GRR for the opportunity to read and review the book. I really enjoyed the book very much I love the characters the plot I like hockey books with mm romance so it worked out perfectly. This is a new author to me and that's really enjoyed the book very much.
