Copper Falls #2

Shadow Sworn

Rate this book
A centuries-old curse. A conniving, obsessed warlock. A darkness that grows with each passing day.

Having succumbed completely to Shadow, Sophie now struggles with both the vile, strange magic flowing through her, as well as the curse her ancestor put on the Turcotte family. In taking the curse, she saved the life of the man she’s loved for her entire life.

All she needed was to buy some time.

But the curse is beginning to eat away at Sophie’s sanity, and learning to wield Shadow magic in a way that might save both herself and Calder’s line from its malevolence is proving nearly impossible. Sophie is in a race against time as well as her own increasing madness to end the curse before it infects Calder’s family again.

An old foe awaits his opportunity.

Marshall, the warlock who now owns Sophie’s soul, haunts the shadows, frustrated by both his own inability to force Sophie completely to his will and the forces that seem to thwart his every attempt to make her do his bidding. His desperation turns to rage, and an entire town will be forced to pay.

Despite her madness, Sophie must learn to wield the magic she never even wanted, or everything and everyone she ever loved will suffer. And the ultimate price she’ll pay to save them will be more than she ever could have imagined.

The next book in my Copper Falls series is almost here! We get to see how Sophie deals with the things she took upon herself in Shadow Witch Rising, as well as how it all affects her relationship with Calder and the rest of the close-knit community of Copper Falls. This book is a little darker, I think, than the first book, but I think that can be expected, because, Shadow.

I loved writing this book. Sophie is a different type of heroine for me: quiet, calm, introspective. She's not brash like Molly, or commanding and confident like Eunomia. It made it both a lot of fun and a bit of a challenge to write her. It makes her badass moments (and she has them, yes she does :) ) all the sweeter.

I hope you enjoy it!

I enjoyed Shadow Sworn just as much as I did Shadow Witch Rising! There was a lot of tension between Sophie and Calder, and the curse is becoming more and more unbearable as the book progresses. There are sacrifices that need to be made, and more secrets are being revealed. Again, I loved the flashbacks to Luc and Migisi. I had my suspicions but really excited to discover more in Light’s Shadow. I highly recommend this series by Colleen Vanderlinden!

So, the powerhouse of emotional writing that is Colleen Vanderlinden has done it yet again, blown me away and left me reeling! Character driven doesn't even begin to describe the way these books are written. Sophie has one hell of a lot to deal with now that she has taken on Calder's curse, along with the shadow inside of her. This is a story of Sophie as much as it is about any of the events in this book.

Sophie's journey is now fraught with difficulties, but through all of that we get to see the rather amazing Calder who does everything to redeem himself in my eyes for the mistakes he made in Shadow Witch Rising. Her friends are also much in evidence and provide a bit of light relief in some part. On Sophie's quest to find out more about Shadow we learn more about Luc and Migisi, and get to meet a new character Esme. Even now at the end of the book I still have no idea what to think of her - go read it, I'd love to know what everyone thinks!

Marshall is the ever present evil that he was in the previous book and he is a character that I have come to truly hate, awful in every sense of the word, but Sophie is learning all the time and their interactions become more interesting.

However one of the most powerful points of this book is that it truly makes you think. What is good, what is evil? What is light and dark, do the two have to be mutually exclusive or do they coexist, and what is the impact of free will and our actions? I was thinking on this for a long time and anyone who likes to work their brain a little will love this.

All in all yet another hit from the wonderful Colleen Vanderlinden, she is still one of my favourite authors. I inhale everything she writes.

No other author can bring me to tears like Colleen Vanderlinden. And of course, she did it again! Sophie & Calder are back again dealing with the curse. Marshall's obsession with Sophie is coming more to the forefront. And we get more background on Migisi and Luc. This book has me wanting more and more!

I loved the development of Sophie in this story, i just found that the development went a little bit slowly. There was a lot of story where not a lot happened. The continuation of Sophie's story was however well written, with a lot of care and the story didn't quite go where I expected (I thought I had the plot guessed - I didn't) and i am looking forward to where the story goes next.

To be totally honest I'm only 31% through the book but it's been left on the shelf because I was bored with the lack of anything actually happening. I really loved Shadow Witch Rising but this has been a let down so far. I'll let you know if I ever get to finish it.

Love and hate, dark and light, what a read! I just loved Shadow Sworn, it begins with everything that was great about Shadow Witch Rising and launches into a well-written, tangled mess where you cheer for the heros and sigh big sighs when they don’t always come out on top. The ancestral backflashes are woven seamlessly into the fabric of the story and provide wonderful enhancements. Shadow Sworn introduces new characters - some good, some bad, some you're just not quite sure of yet, and some goats. The apotheosis of the story had me holding my breath, reading in a blur and the love scenes made me swoon. I enjoy Colleen Vanderlinden's storytelling; there is no formula, just stories told from the heart. This was a great second installation to the series, I cannot wait for the next book.

A fantastic rollercoaster

I loved this story. The characters are so well written that I feel I know them personally. I'm so very upset that I have to wait until 2016 for the next installment!!!!

Can't wait for the third!

Second in the series. Admittedly a little long through the middle and I was anxious for how she would wrap this one up. but still a great read.

Ehhhh

Pretty good plot but the typos are an annoying distraction. Good brain candy quick read though. I would say more like a 3 1/2.

Lot of unanswered questions about what happened. Is Marshall gone ? Is there a happily ever after for all? Who is esme?
