Have you always wanted to write, but never quite had the courage to start? This free ebook, Start writing fiction, will give you an insight into how authors create their characters and settings. You will also be able to look at the different genres for fiction.
This little e-book is mostly full of links for the UK's Open University. And some of those links don't work. There is some other useful information in the book, but overall it's not what I expected. OK if you are interested in taking an OU course.
This is a very, very basic introduction to creative writing, surprisingly so for something issued at university level. This is paper. This is a pen. These are words. Read it aloud. Actually, there are a few insights here and there, but nothing I haven’t seen elsewhere, hashed and re-hashed over and over again. It’s all rather soulless, hackneyed, and dispiriting.
This e-book relies on the reader being able to open links in the text, which I wasn't able to do on my device. As such, I missed at least half of the content and it felt like a waste to try to figure out what was going on piece-meal. It's too bad, really.
A quick introduction to writing fiction provided free by the OU. I found the sections where famous authors talked about their methods particularly useful.
A good book from the Open University. Short course on how to write fiction, it has some very helpful information on how to set scenes, and how to build up your characters. I would recommend it.
I was looking through the OPen University for a free writing course and was excited to find this one. The course was no longer running, but there was this ebook version available to download.
It is full of lots of good writing basics and plenty of writing exercises to practice on. It's lacking the audio component that used to be available through the interactive course.
