Dusk Gate Chronicles #7

Blades of Accession

Rate this book
Peace comes with its own challenges. The war may be over, but the past doesn't always fit so neatly behind you. As William, Quinn, Thomas, Mia, Zander and Linnea begin to navigate their new life in the castle, they learn that coming of age and growing into the leaders of a kingdom takes its own kind of strength and love.

The seventh book of the Dusk Gate Chronicles reunites most of the beloved characters, journeys between Earth and Deusterros, and explores how sometimes building a future requires sacrificing your past.

This was a weird conclusion to the Dusk Gate Chronicles. (Okay, so the whole series was actually pretty weird, but whatever.)

With only two chapters left to go, there still so many unresolved plot devices that I found myself sitting here like HOW THE FUCK?! Well, it didn't work. At all. The "resolutions" were all super rushed and sloppy. One plot point (Leah) had no resolution at all. While we're told by the author that this is the last book, Leah's entire storyline just unapologetically flatlined, pretty much as after thought. Bad writing. Bad bad bad.

The return to "our" world was fun though, especially experiencing it through the eyes of the accidental stowaway (phrased to avoid spoilers). That was the most enjoyable part of the book for me, honestly.

I'm still going to read the two accompaniment novellas and the short story just because my completionist brain won't allow it to be any other way. But all in all, I very seriously doubt that I'll ever actually recommend this series to anybody. It was just far too saccharine and fluffy for my tastes. (And the baby fever stuff really annoyed me, not going to lie to ya'll.)

I really love the whole Dusk Gate Chronicles by Breeana Puttroff, especially the first four. However that said, this one I think is the last in the series and it left me with some serious questions so I hope I am wrong about it being the last.

Warning: this part will contain spoilers!!

I don't know why Leah was searching for the gate, why she couldn't cross the gate by herself. She is a big mystery that never really gets explained. The 'stone' she was looking for? Who was the 'he' that Leah was referring to when she attached Linnea? Why did Zander tell Owen to take care of the stone? Did he mean the stones Quinn had given Owen or the magnet that was destroyed? What did Nathaniel do with the magnet from this gate? Could they lift the quarantine?

really lots of questions… great read, like always but so, so many unanswered questions!!

What an amazing ending to the dusk gate chronicles. I only wish there could be more. I want to hear more of williams side and cannot wait for the gate keepers to start. This series has become my favorite.

This was a really poor and unnecessary ending to the series. The biggest point of intrigue in this book was Leah, and there wasn't any sort of resolution at all with her storyline. Who is she, what was she tearing everything apart looking for, what stone was she talking about, how does she know about the two worlds, which world did she originally come from? None of that was answered, they just locked her on Earth and said "well, I guess she's not our problem anymore so who cares."

Honestly, the parts about Leah and the diphtheria weren't necessary to the overall Dusk Gate Chronicles story. They were only there to fill in the rest of the pages needed for a book that was truly just trying to be about wrapping up Zander's new life in Philotheum (and a little bit about Quinn becoming a more confident queen). Honestly, there could have been an epilogue at the end of the last book about Quinn becoming a good ruler and Linnea/Zander getting together, and that would have covered the only important plot points in Blades of Accession.

If you've read the rest of the series then you should read this one just for the completion aspect, but prepare to be disappointed.

The entire Dusk Gate Series are must reads. This series is not just for teenagers/young adults. So, I hope that piece of information has not stopped mature adults from this experience. I am 47years old .
I really am hoping for a book 8.

I feel like these characters are my family forever.

When I was a teenager, I used to wish I could take a detour from this world and into another world. I guess this is why I love to travel.

Thank you Breanna Puttroff for this introduction to new worlds and this family.

Gatekeepers Series...I can't wait!

Linnea finally gets to visit Earth. I enjoyed her reaction to the unfamiliar world. Unfortunately Owen doesn't make an appearance but Zander finally gets to make nice with his mum and dad. Sort of, anyway. Although it's pretty funny that he's only been gone six weeks. I enjoyed the plot and the action. The romance between Zander and Linnea is pretty sweet and I'm glad Thomas and Mia have finally worked things out. Once again I flew through the pages. It sucked me in and wouldn't spit me out until I was finished. 4.5 stars.

Outstanding!

I am no longer a "young adult" by a long shot, but I totally enjoyed reading my way through this series. A captivating storyline and characters you really come to care about. A few tears here and there, but far more celebrations. I am sorry to have the stories end- the characters are all still teenagers. Very grown up, accomplished young adults with a lifetime of stories ahead of them. (I just KNOW Owen and Alice belong together!!)

A happily ever after? Well maybe.

I can't say that this book was the best book in the series because each book was the best one until I read the next one. And if Ms Puttroff is true to her word, (her written word that is) then I can't wait to read the spinoff series about Owen! Also, I'm looking forward to reading all the little novellas as well. I appreciate that these books can be read by any age group as they are all PG clean. I highly recommend then to all!

Continues...

Continued to be yet another book in this series which I couldn't put down. Again, great twists and unexpected adventures which offered the opportunity for us to get to know the character's even more. Very sad to have got to the end of their journey...so far?!

Love this series!

I really enjoy reading this series. All the books have heart, adventure, and the "other world" drama! Breeana is an amazing author. Can't wait to read more in the series! Keep writing, please! :)

It was fun reading more about Linnea and Zander and things that Linnea was never allowed to experience before.

Can’t say that I loved traveling back to Earth - much like Zander and Linnea, I’ve clearly gotten used to life in the other world! ;-) But I do love continuing this journey.

Mixed feelings

I love the Dusk Gate series, but this book just wasn't up to the author's usual high standards. It actually felt like two different people wrote it. Some parts were really good, sweet even. Other parts felt like a college freshman literature assignment jumped in. Really uneven, choppy, and a disconnect between the previous books in the series and this one. I used to follow the author, so I'm aware she had some personal challenges while finishing this book, but she should have waited to publish, until this book was as good as her others. That being said, if you've read the rest of the series, you'll want to read this to give yourself some closure. Just don't expect much.

This was honestly an amazing book. I only started reading it this evening...and next thing I know it's 2am in the morning!! I didn't even notice the time go by! And suddenly I was 95% through it, which was extremely saddening for me, and there doesn't even seem to be another one after it! *sob*
Also reading this book totally saved me from a spider that came down from my ceiling onto my bed and if I hadn't been reading I would have been asleep and vulnerable!
But seriously I have been constantly reading this series and I could hardly concentrate on anything else the entire time that I still had books to read. I doubt that distraction will disappear now, even though I've finished them. But I would recommend these to anyone. I give them the highest of praises

I wasn't completely thrilled with this one. I love the series, and I still enjoyed this book, but I felt like coming off of Leaves of Revolution it was just boring. The things that happened within this book could have been a lot more interesting, but it was just lacking in a lot of ways. I got pretty excited about the other books, but with this one I describe it as "Eh."

It's definitely not my favorite in the series, but with that being said, I'm still in love with the series and am going to keep reading it. I just wanted something more from this one. I don't really know what I wanted from it, but it didn't deliver.

Amazing series

I love the character development in this series, how we see each situation that they grow from and how they dealt with it. This is honestly the first series that multiple pov's didn't tick me off, I was able to read through each change over like it wasn't there. I think it was because I loved these characters so much and was invested in them. And other situations that dealt with other characters like Sophia were done in conversations that made sense, like the one towards the end. So thank you Breanna Puttroff for not making me read lines of stuff from minor players.

I devoured this book convinced there was an 8th one, only to finish it and realise that that was it!! :O The entire collection is wonderful. The characters are likeable, full of personality, well drawn, and I was happy to "make friends" with them throughout 7 books.
Dear Breeana: can we please, please, pleeeaaassee have another one?

I was a little less pleased with this last book. I honestly think it would have ended better with #6. I just think it was lame the way the character of the characters changed when they changed worlds. It's like their values went out the window a little. Nothing terrible, but I felt like even the dialogue between them changed and it felt cheap.

I really enjoyed the return to this world. Zander was a fun character to see return to his own world and realize how much and in so many ways he had grown.

I do feel that this one left a lot more questions and didn’t quite feel complete. Who is Leah? What world is she from? What does she want?

But overall a fun read

I have loved this series, although in a way there have probably been enough already. They are aimed at teens, probably, but the concept of people moving from one world to another is well done and all the characters are interesting. If she keeps writing them, I will keep reading them.

The end?

I would recommended this series to my daughter-in-law and granddaughter who both love a good fantasy. I give the whole series a 5+stars. I hope this isn't the END. I 'll keep watching and will check out the Gate Keepers also. Great writing!
