This short book is full of common sense, sound, valuable principles about how leaders should invest their time, attention, and energy. I wish I could put this book in the hands of many of the bosses I've had...

She raises several thoughtful points about the role of self-awareness and how a leader must eventually know his/her self to truly develop. The 5 Key Traits of a Confident Leader tie into this. I was relieved to see unique traits discussed – many leadership books harp on very common, unoriginal traits.

Michele raises a very poignant observation that a leader must never be self-centered, but must be centered on supporting the team. This will be a stabilizing factor in the group during challenging times and allow the team to fulfill their roles rather than worry about their security.

Towards the end, she gives several unique, immediately applicable techniques to develop positive thinking. I suspect much of this is like harnessing the placebo effect for yourself – keep thinking of yourself as a solid leader and your thoughts and behavior may start to believe it!

Bottom line: This is a helpful book that would make a significant difference if leaders internalized and applied the principles therein!
