4.5 Hot Read, Re-read and Read again Stars!
Cordelia Astley is the widow of an elderly Baron who mistreated her and blamed her for his lack of male heirs. When he passed away, he did not leave much by way of fortune, but he did leave behind a very spoiled daughter from a previous marriage, Gabriella. Worried that she would not be able to make ends meet and that no one would want her because her deceased husband told everyone she is barren, Cordelia is thrilled when the Philip Stanley, the Marquess of Dunbury, who is much younger and more attractive than her first spouse, but more importantly, he is titled and wealthy, began courting her. When he asks her to marry him and agrees to take on the role of stepfather and sponsor for Gabriella, Cordelia believes herself to be the luckiest woman in the world. But as their wedding night nears, the memories of the painful, impersonal, and uncomfortable couplings she experienced in the past makes her worry about her new husband making demands on her person, though she tells herself it is worth it to be wed to a kind man who will care for her and her stepdaughter financially.
Philip, Marquess of Danbury, is pleased to have found a beautiful woman who seems to be the perfect submissive wife for him. He knows she comes with baggage in the form of a bratty stepdaughter that he looks forward to unloading on the right gentleman who can take her in hand, and even though he has only kissed Cordelia, he can tell from her hesitancy that she is innocent of the many pleasures he can give her. He can also tell by her response to him that there is untapped passion that runs deep within. Once Cordelia realizes that intimacy with her new husband is much different in the best way possible than her previous cold interactions, she is over the moon. And when he introduces her to some light BDSM (spankings), she is surprised to realize she is turned on by his dominance. But what gets her the most is the way he shows that he cares by punishing her when she doesn't stand up for herself against her stepdaughter's bullying manipulations. No one has ever shown her that she matters as much as Philip does, even when he has to discipline her. But what will happen when Gabriella keeps pushing the limits with her new step-father's patience at the way she treats her stepmother? And when Cordelia keeps what she thinks are harmless secrets that lead to bigger problems from Philip, will he feel betrayed? Can they find a way to be open and honest with each other while enjoying the happiness and satisfaction they have found in the other aspects of their marriage with a sly saboteur in their home?
What I liked:
--- I loved this couple --- Philip was very patient with Cordelia and didn't try to push things on her but rather showed her how things could be.... he let his other body parts do the talking ;)
--- The BDSM aspects were not over the top and were relatively mild on the scale which tends to be my preference
--- The ending of this book sets the next book in the series up nicely
--- STEAMY GOODNESS early and often!
What I didn't like as much:
--- Gabriella was a bit much at times -- there is a novella between this book and the next book in the series that goes through much of this plot from her perspective which helps understand her a bit better (

Overall, this is a book that has it all: likeable H/h, an appropriate dosage of angst, some light BDSM/discipline, and delicious steamy goodness galore!

4 'Delightful' stars
This was a delightful read. Lots of sexy times, lots of spanking times, and a big cast of likable characters. It was great to see already known faces from the original series and I enjoyed meeting new ones. Phillip and Cordelia were a great couple and they were so hot together.
I admit I disliked a little how much attention was on Gabrielle. Her book is next, so I understand that it was for the sake of her story but she also has a prequel novella to her book and I think having so much page-time was unnecessary.
Overall, this was an amazing start to the spin-off and I'm looking forward to more spanking adventures.

Spanking a woman’s curvy bottom had always been a particularly enjoyable past-time for Philip. He loved to see a woman’s reddened bottom, listen to her delicious cries and pleas, and then cuddle and fuck her into delirium afterwards.

No. Just no. Despite the lovely cover I could not stand to go through the rest of the story. This was written in the way that every meme regarding Historical romances are written. With over exaggerating adjectives and certain parts written to sound more lyrical but just coming off as a perverted 80 year old might speak. I badly wanted to know what Gabrielle’s story with Felix is going to be but after this mess? I rather not.

I enjoyed Philip and Cordelia story.
Definitely a Bodice Ripper. To many sex scene for me, skipped a few as they seemed monotonous, and ruined the story for me. 4 stars for story. -1 for to many sex scenes.
Would have liked to have read Gabrielle and Felix story . But have been put off buying it.

Golden Angel,i love your stories! In this time ánd the ones written in Victorian time. I love them all! As for Cordelia,she’s such a sweet girl and in need of love after a her marriage to the coldhearted baron. Leaving her and her step-daughter Gabrielle behind in a dire situation with his death. Thank heavens for Philip,the Marquess of Dunbury,who sees something in her.....something he likes,very much! If only she didn’t care so very much about her step-daughter....one that doesn’t seem to return the sentiment. Will Philip manage to make Gabrielle se sense? And will he be able to give Cordelia what she so desires,a marriage filled with love and caring discipline?

Should I read in order?
I personally think it’s probably best to read her Domestic Discipline Quartet first – this is like a spin off of that and my first Golden Angel – I felt like I was being told a lot of background about events and characters I didn’t care about because I didn’t read those books – I also wonder if I would have gotten to know Philip more in those books? So I can’t say it’s totally necessary but I personally wished I had started there after reading this one.

Philip and Cordelia fall into married life and learn to manage her stepdaughter and hidden passions.

My thoughts:
I struggled with this one almost from the beginning because it felt like there was a lot of recap and telling and not showing the story. It left me wishing I had started with the Domestic Discipline Quartet because I didn’t know the side characters who were talked about frequently and also felt like the story started really abruptly and maybe I would have known at least Philip more if I had read that series? It was just a hard start for me.
And I never grew to love it because my annoyance with Gabrielle – I just really struggle with toxic family members being a big plot point (I lived it for too long and it’s definitely just a me thing!) so I was ready for her to go away. I did like both mains overall but the relationship and story just didn’t grab me. Also I was listening to the audio and I think it sounded quite echoey to me for some reason so that was harder for me and a bit distracting.
I’ll definitely be trying more Golden Angel but I’ll go back to another series and give it a go and I’ll probably read the next one to eliminate narrator disconnect.

The couple are are the cusp of being in love. But her stepdaughter is jealous, and interferes with their relationship. Great writing in one of the best 'discipline books'. The H's friends share similar kinky preferences and it was a good read.

A spin off from the Domestic Discipline quartet, this has a feel all of it's own
Whilst there is still domestic discipline within the pages of this book, this had a much more erotically kinky feel to it. Cordelia, as a widow, might not have been a virgin, but Philip took great delight in corrupting her innocence anywhere and everywhere he could!
Having read the very entertaining Domestic Discipline series, it was really good to catch some glimpses of Eleanor, Edwin, Irene, Hugh, Cynthia, Wesley, Grace and Alex again. However you don't need to have read any of those books to understand and enjoy this one.
I loved both main characters, they were so very likeable and made a really adorable couple. The author really convinced me of the connection they shared and of how much personal growth Cordelia underwent. The entire story is an absolute delight to read, it's a fairly long book but at no point did it drag or get boring. The author just had one heck of a good story to convey and it simply wouldn't have been done justice in any fewer words.
I feel the need to warn you that this story contains punishment spankings, carried out by the hero on both Cordelia and her step-daughter Gabrielle. If that is liable to offend you then this may not be the book for you, I hate seeing reviews on this type of book referring to 'beatings' and 'violence' against the women when (a) that isn't the case and (b) the book warns you about the content. Whilst Cordelia didn't enjoy the actual spanking, she did accept and give consent to the discipline, so if you're new to the genre I feel this is an ideal book to 'experiment' with (and boy there's some smokin' hot experimenting within these pages!)

A domestic discipline with an actual story.
This was better the most! Actually had a story too it. The heroine is a submissive woman. Having been married to an older crueler man who gave her nothing and let his daughter walk all over her, she learned to be submissive and remain unnoticed. I don't mind discipline when it's validly earned which is the case in this story and not too much of it. There is spanking play for pleasure (and our heroine certainly enjoys it) as well as for discipline, but it's not over done. Our heroine is "disciplined only 3 times...only the last one seemed a bit harsh, but if you understand where the H is coming from you get it.
I liked both the H and the h. The development and growth of both characters is both believable and well written. The only character you loved to hate was the h's stepdaughter (who became her new hubby's ward). You couldn't wait to see her get her comeuppance and she does, twice. But by the end of the story you learn some things and actually start to feel sorry for her. I'm actually looking forward to her story which is next.

I gather some folk like reading this kind of stuff but I’m not one of them. This isn’t BDSM - it’s totally about a man abusing his wife in every which way including anal rape.
Thee is no agreement, informed consent or safe words. This is all about the man’s desires, and preferences and quite frankly, I don’t find the idea of a man enjoying beating wife and step-daughter at all erotic or attractive. I found it impossible to believe that any woman would simply put up with such cruel abuse, let alone accept it.
There isn’t the slightest vestige of eroticism here but if you get off on abuse, beatings etc - you’ll maybe like it. Definitely not my cup of tea. I like well written sex scenes which are emotionally satisfying because they are based on equality and consent. I really wish I’d not bothered with it.

Es una novela erótica con escena muy bien descritas, nada vulgares, que no me ha saturado, últimamente la parte erótica me satura un poco, porque acaba siendo una serie de escenas sexuales que son iguales entre ellas, con posturas imposibles. En Las reglas del marqués no me han aburrido ni me han cansado.
Algunas veces me ha parecido que el libro podía estar escrito por un hombre por la forma que es tratada la mujer. He notado un tono condescendiente, teniendo en cuenta que es una historia de sumisión, con azotes (como juego erótico), las mujeres también eran castigadas con ellos cuando, sus esposos decidían que sus esposas se habían portado mal. En esos momentos mi parte feminista echaba humo por las orejas, aunque claro podemos justificarlo que es histórico y seguramente eso era normal en aquella época. Al terminar el libro he pensado que el libro podría llevar el subtítulo de "La comunidad de las mujeres azotadas", todas los personajes femeninos (amigas de la pareja) lo eran por sus maridos.
Me he reído con la parte de los bailes, la protagonista tiene una hijastra que debuta en la temporada y que es una chica rebelde, egoísta, lo que montan para tener la chiquilla vigilada no es normal... llega a convertirse en un vodevil 😂 con todos los amigos de la pareja vigilando a la muchacha y aún así consigue escaparse dos veces. Intuyo que el próximo libro será la protagonista, y que pienso leer.
Lo recomiendo a las fans de 50 Sombras, las escenas eróticas son más excitantes, esta mejor escrito.... Abtenerse a los que todo lo de sumisión, azotes no les van, y sobre todo si esperas encontrar una historia de amor.

Cordelia is a sweet and submissive woman who has been widowed and left with a rather bratty step-daughter named Gabrielle. Cordelia's marriage to the late baron was one void of love and care. Gabrielle was also unnecessarily rude to Cordelia. When the two of them are left alone after the baron's death, Philip, the Marquess of Dunbury sees Cordelia as the perfect woman to suit his particular needs.
Philip marries Cordelia and begins putting Gabrielle in her place and teaching Cordelia what it means to be strong in your own way. Philip seeks to bring Cordelia out of her shell and own her confidence while also acting as his submissive. Slowly, Cordelia starts to learn what it means to really be loved by a man and in a marriage that is built upon mutual respect.
Will Philip be able to give Cordelia the life she craves? Can they be happy and trust each other? Will Gabrielle be able to manage her emotions better and change?
This was a steamy and enjoyable historical romance. It was a bit long at some points which is why it took me so long to finish but it really was a good read. Overall, if you like historical romance with a spanking/dominant theme then I say definitely pick this one up!

Okay, its a disciplinary and lot of sp*nking, bdsm kinda book. The hero sp*nk the step daughter of his wife who is no relation to him, really?? He punish his wife even though he knows she did no wrong. And doing things she doesn't enjoy as a punishment?? The total thing is like the heroine manipulating herself and pretending it's all to please her husband. And you know, every bloody character in this book enjoys sp*nking!!

I might have just found my new historical erotica author obsession in Golden Angel. Golden Angel reminds me a lot of Annabel Joseph with the Bridal Discipline series: BDSM set against a Regency backdrop, and shorter stories at 250 pages that pack a psychological punch. Maybe it's the power dynamics of BDSM but these BDSM stories, when they flesh out the characters, can provide new psychological insights into your tried-and-true H+h archetypes!
Philip marries Cordelia, a widow who comes with a spoilt and badly behaved stepdaughter, Gabrielle. Cordelia hasn't had much confidence since her previous husband didn't treat her as his equal, and of course, was a bad lover (usually how you can tell the bad men from the good men in romances lol). Cordelia also lets Gabrielle walk all over her, enabling some of her spoiled child tendencies because 1) she doesn't know how to assert herself and 2) she also loves Gabrielle, often sees her as a sister due to their age, and is a bit of a softie- she can understand why Gabrielle may be rude, or if she is being demanding, give in to her wishes because it isn't a big deal to her.
When Philip marries her, he wants to treat her the way that she should be treated, and he wants her to have a good relationship with Gabrielle. At first, he mostly wants to make sure Cordelia lets Gabrielle know who is in charge, and that Gabrielle cannot act like a brat to get what she wants. However, he starts to feel like Cordelia cares more about Gabrielle than him when she seems to take her side instinctively, or hide things from him. Cordelia does this without thinking that she is hurting Philip.
Philip's Rules reminded me a lot of what I enjoyed about Elizabeth Thornton's The Passionate Prude, which was renamed To Love An Earl because the book also focuses on a hero feeling like the heroine will always take the side of their sibling/family member.
Philip's Rules also reminded me of Carolyn Jewel's The Sinclair Sisters series, in a way that I almost shudder to read Gabrielle's book. There is couple B in Gabrielle and Philip's friend, Felix. And yes they stole the show - I was way more interested in their antics, but they reminded me of Emily and Bracebridge in The Sinclair Sisters series because Emily is in love with Bracebridge but Bracebridge is in love with her sister, an admired woman for her character. Gabrielle thinks Felix loves her sister, who is also considered universally lovable.
Philip's Rules is run amok with happily married couples from a previous series, Domestic Discipline Quartet, so I've already got my eye on that series.
Both Philip's Rules and Birching His Bride are currently free on the Kindle store.

Spankings..historical style!
This seems like a little fifty shades in historical setting. It is very mild on the bdsm side, but is still filled with some heated spankings. It was sweet to see how both Cordelia and her new husband were really so insecure thinking the other might not actually fall in love with the other. They were such a love match from the start it was sweet.
Definitely looking forward to the next in the series.

This book had SO MUCH POTENTIAL - I'm a little upset by it and let down - the first 1/4 to 1/2 was great - but then it was so repetitive I wanted to die - given the context of the book I expected a whole lot more than I got such a let down

I took a chance on this because I saw a very poor (1 star) rating. I kind of giggled because I didn’t believe it could possibly be that bad. I’m very glad I picked it up! This is sweetly sensual and entertaining. There is some spanking and naughty trysts so be aware of that. However, unlike many others writing in this genre, Golden includes a storyline to go with the steamy encounters. I’ve learned to like the characters and will definitely be reading others in the series. Strong writing makes this a joy to read!

This is for when your brain needs a break and only a short, smutty, and low-on-plot book will do. The book starts with the wedding of the widow Cordelia and Phillip so we miss the courtship and go straight into the marriage. Cordelia has a horrible bratty stepdaughter she brings with her that causes all kinds of trouble. I loathed the stepdaughter and also loathed the fact that Phillip spanked her not once but twice. She was a grown-ass woman, why are you spanking her and it's not sexual? This particular plot point was just unnecessary and so bizarre. Aside from that the spice was on point. I love a widow being sexually awakened and Cordelia finding what revved her engine was *chef's kiss*. That being said this was very low on relationship development and high on the smut so YMMV.

Easy reading a pleasant change from my Blood, Murder and Suspense.

Needs a different narrator.
Like the first series the writing is superb.
The narrator doesn't pull off the English aristocracy. He doesn't have any accent and just sounds wrong. There also were some places where I didn't know what he said, mispronounced words. I think he would have done better with American characterizations. He was for the most part listenable. But he was wrong for this book.
I'll probably still listening to this again but probably not as much as the first series to this second series.

Philip’s Rules Was Disappointing!
This book was very disappointing to me, it was well written but it was a huge disappointment!
The BDSM was really dark so dark that to me it bypassed BDSM and became physical abuse both towards the wife.
I’ve read several of Golden Angel’s books before which I really enjoyed those books, but this book I actually disliked it.
I disliked it so much that I’m going to avoid reading any more of this series.
This is just my opinion about this book, others might not agree with me but I am allowed to have my opinion.
So it’s going to be a no I do not recommend this book.

I'm always curious about one-star ratings. Are they because of the author's talent or lack of it, are they because it's a top the reader is not interested in or is it a combination of both?
This one intrigued me. Philip's Rules absolutely has disciplinary spanking within the storyline. It also has a plot running through the storyline and characters you will love or love to hate. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting Cordelia and Philip. I'm not sure about Gabrielle but being as I've lived through the teenage years with my own, I'm reserving judgment hoping there's more to the story. I would recommend this book and am proud to give it a 5-star rating.
