Within Taken In Darkest Night, a young grad student browses some books that he shouldn't and accidentally conjures a gorgeously tempting twink, who's more than happy to punish the dirty-minded boy, hot, wet, and entirely bare! And finally, within Taken by a Demon an innocent lover's quarrel between two cubbie cuties attracts the attentions of a hot, cut, hardbody Incubus, who's only too happy to resolve their little spat!

Six stories: Lots of demons, an incubus or two, and several twinks making extremely questionable magical decisions.
The quality varies considerably. The better stories showcase Clarkson's knack for ridiculous supernatural setups, unapologetic Male Gaze, strong physiology, and surprisingly sweet emotional beats.
The weaker ones showcase…some of his other recurring tendencies. 🙄
Taken in the Temple of Forbidden Lust gets things started on a high note.
Saerlin Wyvernwood is a sorcerer and treasure hunter who infiltrates a cultists’ temple looking for riches. Instead, he finds Kas—a huge, horned, deep-red demon—and something considerably more interesting than treasure.
The magical combat is cool, the enchanted atmosphere works, and the truename spell adds an excellent power-game wrinkle. Strong description and physiology, too. One of Clarkson's better combinations of fantasy world-building and heat.
Taken by the Incubus brings Saerlin back, this time as a bratty magic student exploring somewhere he absolutely should not.
The premise has potential; the execution doesn't quite get there.
Sexuality games appear from nowhere, talk of women adds nothing, editing mistakes accumulate, and the demon somehow fluctuates between he and it despite his maleness becoming rather indisputable. 👀 Even Clarkson’s usually-reliable descriptive detail feels strangely muted.
Taken and Bred by the Incubus recovers somewhat.
Hermann is a magically gifted horndog. Eras is his gorgeous, spoiled former student. Both are using each other—and then a spell introduces a demon into their little reunion.
Things escalate. 😈
The anatomy, physiology, and descriptive writing return to form, while Eras supplies some delightfully cheeky surprises. Continuity problems with the men's ages and more unnecessary sexuality weirdness keep this firmly at three stars.
Tag Teamed by Demons is wonderfully bizarre.
Bartender Ellis attracts two mysterious, handsome strangers who know exactly what he wants—and apparently have no particular objection to granting those desires right there at Northman’s. Praise, encouragement, supernatural abilities, and some audacious public behavior make for a fun combination.
Odd verbiage and editing issues remain, but the unexpectedly warm HFN gives this one a surprising amount of heart.
Taken in the Darkest Night goes darker and more atmospheric.
Graduate student Ethan, chronic nightmares, an ancient text, a sealed envelope…and Sebastian.
Talons. Black eyes. Tail. Swimmer's body.
Good anatomy and variety, with the tail once again proving that Clarkson refuses to waste perfectly useful supernatural equipment. The top POV isn’t quite as strong—bottom POV remains clearly his wheelhouse—but Ethan and Sebastian are unexpectedly charming together.
And that final wink? 😉 Perfect.
Taken by a Demon closes things out with perhaps the collection’s most entertaining relationship dynamic.
Craig and Bryan's long-term relationship is already struggling when a mysterious statuette produces a demon. Bryan thinks adding a third sounds fantastic.
Unfortunately for Bryan, the demon has absolutely no interest in him.
The reversal works beautifully. Neglected Craig suddenly becomes the center of attention while his inattentive boyfriend discovers exactly how unpleasant it feels to be relegated to the sidelines.
Strong physiology and sensory detail. Another creative deployment of the tail. 😉 The cuckold dynamic could go considerably further, but what’s here works.
