Asylum
Leaving Bill and Helen from 2001: A Totalitarian Odyssey Book 1 to the mercy of the coaxial Secure-U police helicopter looming over their 2034 conservatory, Asylum 2001: A Totalitarian Odyssey Book 2 is a much more psychologically-orientated foray into dystopia centered science fiction, one driven by a thoroughly developed protagonist, Jan Robinson.
Set in and around Ballington House, a specialist psychiatric facility in the United Kingdom in 2013, Asylum centers around Jan's discovery, whilst working at Ballington House, of the secret and ultimately despotic true nature of the facility. Going head to head with Asylum's chief antagonist, Chief Staff Nurse Rabino Amihan, Jan ultimately has to choose between abandoning each one of Ballington House's resident in-patients to the malefic mercy of the hospital, or risk having to play hide and seek from an increasingly autocratic government for the rest of her life.
Asylum is not, however, just another horror story. Asylum is based in a thoroughly believable world, one which is even set for a time in Cyprus in 2013 during the then financial crisis. Likewise, the science-fiction orientated elements of Asylum have inspirational anchors in real present-day politics and technology.
Please note that Asylum 2001: A Totalitarian Odyssey Book 2 can also be read as a standalone short story just like the first work in the series.
