I graduated from the College for Creative Studies in 2004 with a BFA in illustration, my love of cartooning and comics has led me to where i am today.
I've done licensed work for DC, Marvel, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, My Little Pony:Friendship is Magic, Fraggle Rock and more. I love being a nerd, so being able to draw nerdy things for a living is the best thing ever.
I'm married to the best guy ever. Ryan keeps me grounded.
I have a daughter, Grayson, who is my booger-y little destroyer of worlds.
I like my cats... a LOT. ...Our dog isn't too bad.
I live in a state shaped like a mitten.
The constant support of my family, pets, friends, and even complete strangers, is what drives me to succeed in art. Thank you everyone, because of you, I am what I am.
Another great volume of comics! I enjoyed all of the stories, as well as the different styles of art. The expressions are always great, and there are so many fun panels.
The Salty Sea Mare: I love pirates, and so it was a lot of fun to have a pirate story. Fluttershy had to learn a little bit of a lesson, but I loved that it tied into the main story at the end, rather than just being a random side plot like it seemed for most of the story. I loved seeing the Mane 6 in pirate gear and I'm not sure which one of them had the best costume. I especially love Fluttershy's braid, though.
I do have to wonder about the Ponyville ponies that were on the pirate island. None of the Mane 6 acted like anything was odd there, or even acknowledged it. It was probably just meant to be a fun gag, but I was a little confused at first why nothing happened there.
As for the conclusion, it was not one I was expecting, but I loved it. If only Twilight had known that spell for the movie. :P
Story 2 (doesn't seem to have a title): This story was a lot of fun, and I don't blame Twilight at all for her reactions. I do like how everything was able to be reconciled in the end, both with her friends and with the bookworm. I also like the small reference to the Power Ponies episode. Continuity is great. :) That's one of the plus of the comics, is that they aren't afraid to create their own canon, but they also adhere to the canon of the show as it stood when the comics were made.
I love the references that were thrown into this story, the more free form of imagination lending itself naturally to references. It was also cool to see just how different each of the characters' story-telling styles were. The ending was quite sweet as well.
Reflections: Here we explore more of Celestia's and Star Swirl's past, as well as play with the lore surrounding the Equestria Girls spin-off with the magic mirror. While it seemed a little odd at first, with the other dimensions, it makes sense with said lore, and it's hard not to enjoy it when it comes to Celestia's personal stakes in the matter. I won't say much because of spoilers, but I don't blame her for doing what she did, and I just feel so bad for her.
The ending was just so sad, though it also doesn't quite make sense to me. They were restoring balance, but in that world everything seems the opposite of the normal Equestria, so I'm not sure how that change balanced things. Vague because of spoilers. I get the rest of the idea, just not the balance bit.
I loved the majority of the re-designs, though I have to wonder why evil Luna was not Nightmare Moon. I assume it's because she didn't use the same type of darkness to turn evil, but who knows. I don't think Daybreaker had happened yet in the show, so it makes sense evil Celestia wasn't in that form. As for evil Luna's design... I didn't like it. The red just looked ugly. I also didn't care for Derpy's re-design, but I think that's because it makes her look like a guy. The other re-designs were all great, though, and I loved the new versions of the elements.
Overall, a great story that really builds on lore that had not yet been explored in the show with Star Swirl, as well as content we never got, of him and Celestia being contemporaries. I now have a new ship I had never considered before (not related to the previous sentence), and I'm sad all over again just thinking about it.
Story 4: A big change in art style, but it's still just as enjoyable. I absolutely love the story as well, of Trixie trying to help catch a jewel thief just to be accused of the crime instead. Another story with a lot of fun moments, as well as unexpected character bonding. It makes me appreciate Trixie a little more. The mystery itself was more of tool for the story to be told, but the answer given was satisfactory enough.
Story 5: This is just a quick story, of the Mane 6's pets trying to solve the mystery as to why the Mane 6 (and everyone else) has disappeared. It was fun to see the various pets interacting with one another. I think Opal in particular had some of the funniest interactions. I enjoyed the design for the villain, though the way the story was told near the end just made the setup seem awkward. If it takes only a couple of lines of dialogue to solve the problem, why didn't the villain start with that? As such, this is the only story out of the bunch I would rate 4 stars. Still, it was an enjoyable story.
Story 6: Discord is always fun, and I enjoy the Cutie Mark Crusaders as well. Combine that with the best pony Fluttershy, as well as time travel, and what can go wrong? I loved the Sailor Moon reference, and the Doctor Who reference Discord kicks out cracks me up. I love the cat designs, though I was expecting something cuter for the final creature. Still, it is cool looking. The resolution came really fast (about gives you whiplash), but it was enjoyable overall. I think it just needed a couple more pages to breath.
Overall, the stories and art style are all enjoyable. I loved exploring more of the pasts of some of the characters, as well as just going on new adventures that weren't seen in the show. I don't think I'll ever stop being sad for Celestia, but I'm glad I know about this new side of her.
The adventures these ladies....ahem....fillies... have are just too fun for words. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. I didn’t like it as much as the first omnibus but I did like a lot. The interactions between Twilight, Applejack, Fluttershy, Pinkie, Rainbow, and Rarity are a delight from beginning to end. You do get a lot more character fleshing our in this one, especially of Celestia. I don’t watch the show but I’m about to start.
It’s marketed toward kids but adults will enjoy it even more, because we can get all the pop culture references and jokes. I highly recommend this to anyone who’s looking for good engaging stories. Not only do you grow to love the characters, but you get reminders of how important love and friendship are to a happy life!
This book was definitely tailored to the older audience of my little pony. We find out so much more about some of the characters, and the Doctor Who references are everywhere! †I absolutely loved this book!!
So much fun. At one point the whole gang signs up as crew on a pirate ship, which is as ridiculous (in a good way) as it sounds. The best is probably the "lower deck story" in which the pets have to save the day on their own.
I loved hearing the back story of Celestia and King Sombra! I was worried these comics would pretty much follow the tv show. But they don’t. I’m learning all sorts of different things 😊
My favorite stories were the ones featuring the Bookworm and Princess Celestia's forbidden romance. the others were nice but those two really stood out to me.
OK, I admit it, I'm a brony. This compilation of comic books is fun for fans of the show. You even get to see fairly new creatures like kelpies and mermares. The only thing I miss is a table of contents! The stories are: - "The Salty Seamare" and "X marks the spot" (2 pirate stories) - "Bookworm" and "One worm to fool them all" (featuring Daring Do) - "Reflections" (a 4-parter, best in the book) - "Diamond missing" (2 part mystery featuring Trixie) - unnamed story featuring the pets (little dialogue, a fun visual story) - "Dangerous animal trackers" (featuring the Cutie Mark Crusaders)
