I really liked it, it was about a hybrid dragon/human trying to earn his dragon scales, and manage to earn it, but he earned a cursed scale, black scale. Because black scale started the Dragon War, he got banished until he has a different scale color. Now, he is trying to do good to change his scale colors into anything but black.
Format: audiobook Narrator: Lee Alan This narrator has a good voice, easy to listen to and good delivery. He suits this series.
Bk 1: The Hero, the sword and the dragons. Nath Dragon, son of the dragon king has to earn his scales and become the dragon he’s supposed to be but things don’t go as Nath hopes and he finds himself banished to try and find the solution to his curse. An enjoyable fantasy adventure, ideal for a younger audience, plenty of action and sound effects that give it a film/play vibe.
Bk 2: Dragon Bones and Tombstones. Nath Dragon sets out on his quest to free captured dragons but he’s gonna need to curb his temper and listen to advice if he’s to find a way to lift his curse. I wasn’t sure if this was going to be my kind of story but I find myself being drawn into the adventure. I’m looking forward to seeing what else Nath Dragon has to face.
Bk 3: Terror at the temples. Nath Dragon learns a hard lesson when he sneaks away from Brenwar his dwarf companion, will this teach him to listen to Brenwar’s wise council instead of acting without thinking? Can Nath fight evil without killing? His future and the future of everyone relies on it. A fun enjoyable adventure.
Bk 4: Clutch of the Cleric. Nath Dragon had a lucky escape in the last book, will his luck hold? Plenty of trials for Nath and his group as they travel looking for answers to his curse. Elves, dwarfs, dragons and man will have to work together but with a possible traitor in their midst and Nath Dragon’s lack of control the odds are stacked against them and the trap has been set. It’s very easy to get sucked into this adventure with an edge of the seat ending. There’s plenty to keep you entertained
Bk 5: Hunt for the Hero. Will Nath Dragon be able to save his friends or will the Clerics of Barnabus’ plan succeed? When Nath wakes from his changing sleep he finds that his appearance is not the only thing that has changed! The adventure continues as our group of warriors are left with no choice but to seek out the head of those who are spreading evil, death and destruction.
Bk 6: Siege at the Settlements Nath and his group continue on their quest to seek out the evil in charge of the Clerics of Barnabus, freeing towns and villages as they go but the clerics now know of Naths return and the efforts to capture and turn him increases. There’s a repeated section in this audio, (where Nath challenges the grey scale)
Bk 7: Strife in the Sky Nath has a task to complete alone to save his friends but things are not always as they seem, if Nath Dragon fails there will be far more at stake. Evil is at play here to try to divide and defeat our heroes, the excitement is building as things are coming to a head.
Bk 8: Fight and the Fury A surprising old friend reappears in this one and Nath appears to be making a habit of getting eaten. There seem to be a lot of waiting in this one so not a lot was happening which made it drag a little but still a good listen/read.
I read my first Nath Dragon novel in this series thanks to ohfb.com and was immediately hooked. I had previously read much of Craig Halloran's "Darkslayer" series, which I thoroughly enjoyed. But Nath Dragon was different!
There are many"coming of age" novels, usually about an adolescent youth just getting started in life beyond one's birthplace. With Nath Dragon, on the other hand, we are dealing with the coming of age of someone already hundreds of years old.
I do not want to spoil the fun but Halloran has created deep and complex characters that kept me fascinated through Volume Ten. I strongly recommend the The Chronicles of Dragon Collection to anyone who has the patience to read something longer than a trilogy. I promise you will enjoy Nath's journey!
I don't know if it was a download error but the audio had a few places it cut out on a few spots. there was also a few volume balance issues. lastly, some of the background sounds were not fitting at all.
Other than those things, the story was interesting. Each book blended into one another and I lost track that the books ended and others continued on.
The characters were varied and fit well into a fantasy universe. each one having unique traits or qualities.
The settings were a little bare at times and it is a bit hard to keep track of which city is which.
Overall, the story kept me in it. I listened to all 90+ hours as often as I could until it was finished.
Listened to 2 hours and still had no feel for the characters' personality. They just jumped into fights and got stabbed and shot and jumped into more fights. The MC and friend had no backstory except that they had been running around for 200 years to "do good" and "save lives." Why are they together? I don't know anything about what they want or what they fight for or what they are willing to do or not do. The dwarf friend likes ale. That's all I knew about him.
They try to rescue some baby dragon and start a fight with trolls and humans but then don't end up saving the baby dragon. What? I don't get a sense for their skills or powers or anything. There's also not much description or anything interesting about the world.
Audio version Wonderful, you gotta love Dragon. I will definitely listen to this again. The narrator brings it to life. This is over 50 hours of listening pleasure. This Audiobook was given to me for free at my request from the publisher, author or narrator and I provided this unbiased voluntary review. Reasons I enjoyed this book: Action-packed, Wonderful characters, Great world building, Entertaining, Page-turner, Funny, Original, Tragic, Easy-to-read, Unpredictable.
I liked this book very mutch. It had a great storyline: A man who was born a dragon (or maybe a dragon born a man). His father is an enormous dragon: Blazurth, king of dragons. Nath dragon is Son of mighty Blazurth, and wants to get his scales, but they come out the wrong color, due to killing to many bad guys in a rage while trying to free a dragon. Therefore he must travel around not killing anybody, and freeing dragons, to change his scale colors.
This story is very good. Would be a good story for summer travelers. Good world building and character development. The only part that I disliked was the over dramatization of the narrator on occasion and I could have done without the background music, all of which are personal preferences and shouldn't be used to sway a buyer.
Thoroughly enjoyed this omnibus collection It was so very enjoyable, I was beginning To be annoyed at life's interruptions, just Did not want to put it down, so well written Character s wonderful and also a little humour From them even when chips were down , read and enjoy
What a great read. I was up far too late all the way through these books. Craig thank you, the best sort of emotional rollercoaster. Anybody that reads this is in for a great time.
I listened to this on audible. I'm not a hige fan of sound effects when listening to audio books, so this distracted me a bit. I liked the storyline and the characters overall, though. I will probably read the next set of books as well.
My first reaction to this book collection was that it was so long I was afraid that I would not have the patience to stick with it. In fact, by the second book I actually stopped reading it because it was getting somewhat repetitive with the battles and the plot was not really moving forward enough for me.
I am not opposed to long fantasy series. I have read all of The Wheel of Time books, for example. But I thought the characters in this book could have shown some earlier personal growth or get involved in a more mysterious challenge that would peak the reader's curiosity.
Luckily, I did end up going back to the series on a long vacation and I am glad I did. Although it has a slow start, the story picks up about half the way through and proceeds at a faster pace. The main character does grow, most of the companions evolve past their basic stereotypes and there are a few novel plot scenarios that kept things interesting. I even stayed up late many nights toward the end because I was definitely committed to finding out what happened next. That, to me, is the best reaction I can ask for in a book.
The books are very well screened for grammatical errors and typos. I felt the writing was very professional in almost every way. Props to the author for creating such a massive piece of work. I can't even imagine the work that went into it... And, really, Nath Dragon might be the best name for a character that I've seen. I just love it. Nath!
However, if I could ask for one thing to improve this series it would be to take out all of those distracting onomatopoeia examples that are spread throughout the entirety of this story. Please, no more "Whoosh, Crash, Bam!" Seriously, these are overused and distract from the otherwise fine writing.
Overall, this was a satisfying book series and I would recommend it. If you're like me and feel like the beginning drags a bit, don't give up. (Maybe skim a little until it starts to move a little faster?)
I immediately gave this collection five stars but forgot to leave a review. If you love writers with WONDERFUL imaginations, then these stories are right up your alley. The characters are very believable because Mr. Halloran writes with a passion for his readers to enjoy, beginning to end. Nath Dragon and his best friend, his sword, and Brenwar are sent out to the world they live in so that Nath can learn and experience life. Brenwar was appointed by Nath's father to help him stay on track. Nath is NOT always in the mood to listen. I HIGHLY RECOMMENDED this to any reader that loves adventure and discovering new ideas.
I liked it. It seemed like it took forever to read. Not because it was boring but because I decided to read the whole thing through. There more than a few nights where i had to read just one (more like 5) more chapter. Can't wait to start something else, but i might have to visit Nath Dragon again in the next series.
Well where should I begin. I loved this series and read until my eyes were twitching, but it was so worth it!! Incredible stories of adventure, friendships and love all rolled up into ten wonderful books!!!! Highly recommended!!!
Took a while to get into the first book. Craig used a different writing style with relaxed vernacular. Once I got used to the pace of the first book the characters were interesting.
I love dragons! What better story than one of a dragonman! Math has to not kill to become worthy enough, but when evil is out to kill you its hard to turn the other cheek.
