रथ्या!... यानी वेश्याओं के मुहल्ले तक जाने वाली पतली सड़क। वसंती के घर तक जाने वाली पतली सड़क के लिए यही नाम दिया था विमलानन्द ने। यह तो तब की बात थी, जब उसे लगा कि इसी छोकरी के लिए वह क्षण भर पूर्व धरती-सी सहिष्णु पत्नी और अबोध पुत्रों की निरीह गर्दनों पर स्वयं छुरी रखने को तत्पर था... और इसी अहसास के साथ वह धूल भरी रथ्या को रौंदता हुआ तीर-सा निकल गया।

वह बेहद मासूम ग्राम बाला थी समय के चक्र ने जिसे नर्तकी बना दिया। बड़े वैभव से जीवन जीने लगी, पर उसके भीतर का खालीपन कभी नहीं भरा।

दो स्त्रियों के बीच फंसे अहसास जब सम्बन्धों और प्रेम की परिभाषा ही बादल देते हैं, तब किसी एक के हिस्से मे आती है व्याकुल वेदना और यह वसंती के हिस्से मे आई, क्योंकि उसके घर का रास्ता रथ्या से होकर जाता था।

(1923– 2003) was one of the popular Hindi magazine story writers of the 20th century and a pioneer in writing Indian women based fiction. She was awarded the Padma Shri for her contribution to Hindi literature in 1982. Almost all of her works are in print today and widely available across India.

She garnered a massive following in the pre-television 60s and 70s, as her literary works were serialised in Hindi magazines like Dharmayug and Saptahik Hindustan, and in TV serials n films.

Upon her death in 2003, Government of India described her contributions to Hindi literature as, “…in the death of Shivani the Hindi literature world has lost a popular and eminent novelist and the void is difficult to fill”

Dude..!!! The protagonist had high expectations that he would see her the way she was back then. Vasanti had gone through tornadoes so it is obvious that she will change and the perspective to see life whereas Vimal hadn't gone through the sufferings as she had. And I'm disappointed with the way of Vimal judging her lifestyle. Afterall everyone get what they deserve, based on their choices and decisions.😉
I already had this old book in my family storeroom, eating dust. I just found it.
