“やおい”とは、「女子たちが男性同士のホモエロティックな物語を書き、読み、話題にする」サブカルチャー。一九七〇年代半ば頃、アニメやマンガなどのファンダムから出現したとされるが、それより前の一九世紀後半から二〇世紀半ば、すでに各国の女性作家たちにより、男性同士の物語が書かれていた。これらの作品を、“やおい”の系譜の中に捉え直し、今やジャンルとして確立した“BL(ボーイズ・ラブ)”の先駆として紹介する初の試み。
