Love can be a great healer, except when it hurts…

As voice actor royalty, Damon Donovan is trouble. He’s professionally intimidating. He’s confident. He’s charming, funny and genuinely talented. And he triggers the nurturing instincts newly separated Georgia Fairweather has sworn to ignore.

Damon Donovan is used to three types of women: those who fawn, those who mother and those who want to fix him. So a reticent, prickly engineer he can neither awe nor charm triggers his interest.

A recording engineer and a voice actor should be a match to sing about, but the thrilling rhythm they create is soon drowned out by static. Georgia doesn’t know who she is, and Damon doesn’t know who he’ll become.

Can a man facing his insecurities and a woman afraid of her own instincts harmonise, or are they destined to sound good in theory, but be out of sync in life and love?

Ainslie Paton always wanted to write stories to make people smile, but the need to eat, accumulate books, and have bedclothes to read under was ever present. She sold out, and worked as a flack, a suit, and a creative, ghosting for business leaders, rabble-rousers, and politicians, and making words happen for companies, governments, causes, conditions, high-profile CEOs, low-profile celebs, and the occasional misguided royal. She still does that. She also writes for love and so she can buy shoes, and the good cat food.

Damon is a world-famous, australian Voice Actor - meaning, he does voice-overs for video games, movies, commercials et cetera. His voice has melted underwear all over the globe.
Now he's back in Sydney to do some jobs in a small recording studio.
That's where Georgia has just started working.
She's just 'escaped' London and came back to Australia, after being in a bad relationship/marriage for 8 years.
But now she's her own person again, or at least she can begin a new life....
She doesn't have time or patience for this hot and arrogant guy with the amazing voice.
Only he's not really arrogant, is he? He has problems of his own....
Problems that she's willing to take on? Like with her husband?

WHAT WiLL HAPPEN WiTH DAMON & GEORGiA???
WiLL THEY GET THEiR HAPPY EVER AFTER???
WiLL THERE BE A CLiFFHANGER??? ☺ ☺ ☺

I REALLY LOVED THE BOOK!

Every time we get a new ARC by Ainslie, it's a total Forrest Gump bench moment ... you never know what you're gonna get - you just know that you'll very probably end up loving it.

description

And this book was really great!
(Even though it's not a RockstarRomance - it kinda IS one too - Damon sings with his friends at a bar!!!! Grrrrr!!! More panty-melting)

In good old Ainslie fashion - it wasn't your typical run-of-the-mill romance.

It's all very slow and sad and moving and you're constantly hoping and feeling with Damon and Georgia.
You don't want any bad things to happen to either of them....
But bad things might come, and maybe even badder things still...

I loved Damon and Georgia's story!!! And also the little side-stories of Damon's best friends.
I constantly wanted to hug Damon. ☺

Incapable was an amazingly beautiful and touching Romance! You can't go wrong 1-clicking an Ainslie Paton book!!!!

And now Ainslie - give us whatever you're working on now - can't wait to see where the next story will take us!

My second reading of this novel in six months. It is a sweet romance where both the man and woman are carrying a load of baggage and are trying to circumnavigate the minefield of a relationship. I love both the characters. Georgia because she is a normal girl, has her hang ups and hasn't got superhuman sex appeal that you find in most romance novels. It makes me manage to identify better with the character and pulls me further into the book.

Donovan is sex on legs but doesn't take it seriously and plays around with it.

I dare say that i will be reading this again before the year is out.

This did not work for me. The writing felt all over the place, plus I felt that Damon had more of a connection with his "friend" Taylor then with Georgia. Sorry, but when you start the story with Damon and Taylor and they have this flirty connection where he is putting perfume behind her ear, etc. it just comes off wrong. It is one of those "nothing ever happened, but maybe it could...".

There was nothing really explained in the beginning. I felt as if everything was all over the place. Too much with the friends in the beginning.

Taylor picks up Damon to workout. Then there is a bunch of other people show up. Then next chapter is about Georgia. The writing style did not work for me. The writing did not feel organized to me. Too much description and dialogue about nothing. Maybe it was supposed to be deliberately vague, but I never got over how "friendly" Damon and Taylor were so I lost all connection early.

Incapable by Ainslie Paton is #3 in her Love Triumphs set of stories. As I was reading the first section of the book I thought this just might be one of her stories that didn't wow me. Oh me of little faith. All of a sudden the book had a punch to it and I was sucked down in.

There is no other author I know who writes like Ainslie Paton, she has a very distinctive way of writing, she writes contemporary romances, that have an added drama and depth to them that just makes me want to keep on reading them.

I don't always put the blurb into my reviews but I did for this one because I don't want to talk about the story or the characters too much, if by chance you read this book I want you to get the full impact as I did, walking into it unknowingly.

Damon and Georgia are both wounded people each in their own way, they find each other early on but can they keep each other? Georgia desperately does not want to be treated like dirt or dismissed as in her previous relationship. She'd lost all sense of who she is, she is a confident woman that was, now reticent and a little insecure.

Damon is in one sense a great guy, he has grown up with a close bond with a group of friends who love him and he them. They look out for each other, and they're not prepared to stand by and let anyone muck their life up. They'll do what it takes. And Damon is going to test them all to the limit.

The bonds of friendship, the trust and being your true self is strong in this novel. It speaks of tough challenges in life that can leave you incapable and alone, or then again being incapable of forgetting the one who really matters.

I LOVED the ending. Perfection.

ARC kindly given by author and gratefully received by reader.

This is Paton at her masterful best. Incapable is another example of Ainslie's refreshingly original, engaging and compelling storylines, featuring her trademark delightful, charming and funny leading characters in the form of voice actor royalty Damon Donovan, and talented sound engineer Georgia Fairweather. Combined with an awesome support crew, in Damon's best mates, Taylor, Angus, Jamie and Sam. Incapable has a generous amount of love, humour, passion, heartache, trauma, surprise, and wonderful music.

I love this story: Ainslie's stunning portrayal of Damon, his charm, humour, fear, and struggle with his insecurities.
How she brilliantly captures the essence of Damon's friendship with Taylor, Angus, Jamie and Sam. The love, humour and camaraderie between the friends is a work of art.
Georgia's tentative steps to find her rhythm, her hippy hippy shake, her new self.
And Ainslie's attention to detail, as always, is superb.

Ainslie is my favourite romance author, I always find myself totally captivated and fully immersed in the wonderful worlds she creates. Reading a Paton romance is a passionate, sensual journey; a roller coaster ride of emotions, full of surprises, with endings that leave you breathless.

Incapable is a story about friendship, change, uncertainty and facing your fears. It's about forgiveness, trust, hope and love.

Incapable is a beautifully written fictional romance, a story to be read and savoured so all the wonderful nuances of Paton's writing are fully enjoyed.

Wonderful story and characters, I loved it!
Ainslie Paton has an exquisite writing style, I enjoyed her subtlety, the way she handled POV (for both major characters), bringing us, readers, so close to those characters. I loved how we are reminded of Damon’s charm – the dimple (!), the voice, the maleness, the humor –, but also of his insecurities. And the ways all this is interwoven throughout the plot, dialogue and characterization.
The first part of the story makes it the best book read this year, but in the second part melodrama drags the rhythm a little bit.

Some good potential here, but didn't really work for me. I found it overly descriptive at times, and some of the dialogue didn't ring true. I think that the chemistry between Damon and Taylor is stronger than that between Damon and Georgia. I felt it was a bit cluttered in some places.

I liked the freshness of this book. Damon is blind. Unlike many romance heroes before him, his blindness doesn't define him, but is just a part of his overall character development. I loved how the author leaves the reader to guess his blindness and only outrightly reveals it a few chapters in when we discover it alongside the heroine. The first few chapters contain only clues about Damon's disability. That was a masterful touch.

Another thing I loved was Damon's sexy singing. Man was that open-shirted, cigarette-smoking, singing-in-the-bar scene sexy! *fans herself*

Clearly, Damon was the most memorable part of this book. But having said that, I did get tired of all the hardships that he and Georgia faced throughout the story. Her husband's mental illness, his blindness, her trauma and insecurity - these factors were already posing threats to their relationship. And then came the polyp. We survived that, phew. Were finally able to take a relieved breath. When, lo! Cancer! Potentially life-threatening and definitely career-threatening. And no more sexy singing! Jeez, I, as a reader, found it difficult to navigate all the bad news. I can't imagine what Georgia and Damon must have been going through.

Anyhoo, the crazy cancer plot aside, this was an entertaining romance. I will be re-reading that bar scene often :D

in my "set the world on fire" mood I can't handle a [heroine] who is the type to sit in a driveway and just lay on the horn to get someone out of the house.

Total jackass dickbag move. Not just in general, but it's so inconsiderate. Just text/call the person. JFC.

Maybe [hopefully/probably?] I'll try to come back to this book some other time but ...
This current time is NOT the time for me to read it - it just wouldn't be fair for anyone.

A new story from Ainslie Paton? Woo hoo! Over the past year or so, Ms Paton has quickly become one of my "would read if she wrote the takeaway menus" authors.

You never know what you are going to get with a book from Ms Paton. No cookie-cutter stories from her, it is like a lucky dip each and every time.... and I love it.

Incapable was no different.

Damon and Georgia's story is not always a pretty one, but it is a story of hope, love, loss.

I adored Damon through thick and thin, though at times I wasn't sure if I wanted to clip him around the ears or give him a hug.

You could feel the confusion rolling off Georgia as things from her past continue to affect her today.

Throughout the entire story, I just wanted our lovelies to find their happiness.

I ran through a whole range of emotions with Incapable. There may or may not have been a tear or two shed whilst reading.

I also loved Damon's circle of friends. Through thick and thin, they are there for each other, and there were a couple of their stories that I would love to know more of.

I can't wait to see what Ms Paton brings us next.

I'm an Ainslie Paton fan, and this book has all the hallmarks of a great Ainslie Paton read.
For me, I can't rate it quite as highly as some of the Author's other books. I couldn't quite get in the groove with Damon and Georgia, although I love the story in parts. Some scenes that stood out for me were the night Georgia assists Damon in narrating the murder mystery at the cinema. The first time we meet Georgia also, when she's just moved back to her flat and she's singing and dancing, that was gold.
I think it's possible at times I got a bit confused with who was who. There are a lot of secondary characters to muddy the water in this one. A pair of Damon's mates are brothers and this crew (the band, the bar staff etc) all have a lot of history together. Sometimes I forgot which was which brother, which was secretly in love with another character, and which storyline I was supposed to care about the most...
When it's just Georgia and Damon on the page, I enjoyed it heaps.

I was pretty taken by the characters in author Ainslie Paton's Incapable. Laughing-out-loud one moment and astounding this reader the next. Taylor is hilarious and Damon is such a sweety and has his own many challenges. Enter Georgia and the the underlying emotions between Damon and Georgia nailed this readers attention to the pages. Twists this reader didn't see coming and when you think back through the story what didn't quite add up at the time suddenly jumped out at you. So many animated characters throughout this story that only added value and made for an even greater read. Damon's character had so much effervescent energy in his personality that jumped from the pages. Thoroughly enthralling reading.

The angst quotient is almost too high in this one, but Paton's lyrical language and gift for characterization carry the day. The romance between Damon and Georgia seems to be 90 percent crisis, but it's impossible to deny their chemistry. The love story is supplemented nicely by Damon's relationships with four friends he's known since childhood that feature both unconditional support and long-held secrets. Can't say too much without revealing major plot points, but my advice is to stick with it through a deliberately vague and somewhat slow first 10 percent; once the first twist hits, you'll be hooked.

I loved this book! The main characters are great- Damon in particular was very engaging. I liked the slow build up to his blindness and how it wasn't the defining trait of who he was as a character. There were a lot of bad things in a row that happened which was a bit unrealistic, but I didn't mind it!
