Today, I get to tell you about one of their newest kiddo Bibles, the Faith Builders Bible. This is a hardcover, jacketless Bible, perfect for your brick building, no matter the brand of brick minded child! When this Bible arrived I was unsure who was the most excited. While we are still working with Duplo Legos in our family and haven't really moved up to the standard size building bricks - I was concerned at first that I might have to go buy some to be able to get the most out of an experience with the pages and inspiration from this Faith Builders Bible, but I was so pleased to find there was plenty of inspiration to be had, even with the toddler-sized building blogs.  We have a plethora of children and youth Bibles, but lately on many occasions by request, we've been enjoying the Faith Builders Bible from Zonderkidz as part of our kiddo devotions.





After the Faith Builders Bible arrived, I glanced at it and then left the kids to run free and flip through. The Faith Builders Bible a hardcover, jacketless, Bible is the New Internationals Reader's Version (NIrV) from Zondervan. It is not officially associated with any specific brick building blocks brand and thus anything will do for the hands-on that is sure to follow from perusing these pages. At first, I was thinking that I would have to read them a story within scripture, and then encourage them to bring it to life. I was thinking I would be on the floor and guiding along the way. Which to be honest is not quite my cup of tea. However, these girls ran wild with it and were immersed immediately. AppleBlossom is a great reader, so she read aloud while the Princess gathered appropriate blocks and they went to town.



The Princess was drawn toward building a red cross and she did using the bigger blocks built one cross and then another and another and we discussed Jesus on the cross. AppleBlossom was intrigued by the two-page spread which separated the books of the Bible by genre and names on each rectangular brick. We do not have enough to label them all. However, we went through and did the Torah/Law books as well as some others, and then she practiced putting them together in order and reciting the names of the books in the Old Testament as fast as she could. It's fun and exciting and has given her a tangible way to practice and get silly and excited in her efforts to remember them all!



The scripture itself in the Faith Builders Bible is a black-letter (not red-letter words of Christ) with a decent size 10 or 11 size font I'd guess with full-color insert pages throughout with prompts for further study, discussion, or hands-on play to continue what is being taught in the scripture. There is even a page with the ABCs of Salvation to walk someone through accepting the truth.

I feel strongly that one of the ways to get a young person into the desire of spending time in God's word is through their interests. While with the Princess, she is most often seen reading a princess themes, or Brave Girls, or Angel themed Bible storybook and AppleBlossom is often seen with her comic book Bible, now she is spending time reading and learning about different things to build and learn in her brick Faith Builders Bible. With the popularity of major brick building hobbies and collections these days, the Faith Builders Bible is an absolutely delightful tool to let kids read the full scripture of the Bible and challenge themselves to learn more and remember stories within the text.

I couldn’t find my exact bible, but this is most similar to what I’ve used the past year. I grew up on the NIV and still enjoy the translation. This was my first time reading the 2011 update and I liked it just fine. When I compared it side by side with the NASB95 on BLB there wasn’t much difference. Anyway, I had a great time in this Bible and grew a lot in this read-through. Mine was light pink with a gold/tan looking section in the middle. Loved my experience!

My Review:
If you have been reading my blog for long, you know that my husband and I buy our children Bibles. I would say at least 3 before they leave home. We want our children rooted in the Word. To us it's unacceptable to just send them to church and expect others to teach them about the Bible. We as parents have a HUGE responsibility in this too and it is to supply them with these things to not only teach them with but also for those that are old enough to venture out on their own.

The Beginners Bible products are a brilliant idea if you want to give your children something substantial to use to actual teach them the Bible. They even have a Bible that I am sure would make a perfect gift for those children that need a "first" Bible and they are between the ages of 6-10 years of age. This one is the New International Reader's Version and its simple to understand. The part my boys like the most are The Beginner's Bible Illustrations that are included. This Bible is a great idea for their first Bible.

My Review:

Making little hearts grow for Christ should be every adult any where's goal for children growing up in todays society. God is getting pushed aside along with His word. I love giving Bibles as gifts. I have always tried every few years to update my children's Bibles, they really like it and as a mom it makes my heart smile to grow this in them.


This Bible is perfect for the 6-10 age group. It gives the children a lot of background information that they may have never known before about how the Bible actually came to be. They also can get a feel for what life was like during Jesus' life here on earth. And the best part of the helps with this great Bible is the salvation helps. So there you have it a Bible that is complete and full of everything that a young child would need to know to come to Christ and to live in Him.

NOTE: A Holy Bible is always a 5-star rating. This edition has a few things I'm not fond of so hence the 4-star for the edition.

I prefer the King James Version of God's Word but realize that the NIV is a very much read version and one that younger families are using. So I agreed to receive and review a copy of this NIrV "Under the Sea Holy Bible." (NIrV = New International Readers Version)

Today's children seem to have a plethora of Bible covers and incentives to delve into God's Word. The premise of an "Under the Sea" Bible seems to be that God created all creatures including those under the sea.The theme, while interesting and cute, lends no devotional aspect.

Now about the Bible and extra pages inside. I found the print very small and the pages thin where the shadow-bleed from the reverse of the page interferes with reading. Children mostly can read very small print, but this is small.

I really want to read this.love the series

As soon as our children can read, my wife and I are committed to giving them each a Bible and teaching them how to use it. Four of our five now have full title to their own copies of the Good Book, and said property has quickly become used, bumped, beaten, carried about, dropped, and otherwise handled with great frequency and fervor. Just as we’d hoped. (Hardbacks are a must at these young ages.)

The first two children to reach this milestone won themselves the ESV Grow! Bible, which appears to be out of print now and drawing a high price on Amazon. I wouldn’t recommend capitulating, though. The Bible has a solid hipster feel to it, but there’s generally too much on the page. Kids can struggle to figure out which words are Bible words and which words are not.

Because that design was too busy, we took a different route with the third child and provided her with the ESV Children’s Bible. This Bible is nice and clean, giving full attention to the sacred text while peppering it with full-page pictures of key stories. This was great for her, but we still found our new reader struggling with the ESV translation. The words were too big, the sentences were too long, and she regularly lost her place. She often gave up and went back to board book children’s Bibles.

So we changed it up altogether for the fourth child. While our church uses the ESV, we wanted to make sure our child would develop motivation to read on her own. And since we had no problem with simplified children’s paraphrases (like those found in the board books or in The Jesus Storybook Bible), we decided to try a simplified translation keenly focused on being clear. We went with the NIrV.

Now our 3rd child (6 years old) and our 4th child (almost 5 years old) generally share the NIrV. Both love it and can read it well. Just the other day, I overheard my 6-year-old reading about designing the priest’s clothes in Exodus 28. She had a blast with it, and I’m all about encouraging such delight in even the stranger parts of the Bible.

I was delighted to receive a free copy of the NIrV Study Bible for Kids from BookLookBloggers.com in exchange for an honest review. Small price to pay to get a second NIrV in the house.

I like many things about this Bible:
• My youngest readers can read it well on their own.
• The “study Bible” parts of it aren’t too bossy. Full-page pictures are scattered throughout. There is generally one small box of extras every 4-5 pages (though the frequency is higher in the gospels).
• The extras highlight memory verses or simple cultural facts that children can relate to.
• Books have one-paragraph introductions followed by a list of “good verses [really, passages] to read” within the book.
• The front has two pages to orient young children to the Bible’s layout.
• The physical volume has a sturdy cover and binding.

This edition has limitations, of course.
• I love it for beginning readers, but I want to graduate these children to another translation as soon as they’re ready for it.
• I tried to read Ephesians in one sitting, and it drove me nuts. Because the sentences are so short, many words must be repeated, thus making the text longer than other translations. For example (I’ve italicized the repetitions that don’t show up in most translations):

God’s grace has saved you because of your faith in Christ. Your salvation doesn’t come from anything you do. It is God’s gift. It is not based on anything you have done. No one can brag about earning it. We are God’s creation. He created us to belong to Christ Jesus. Now we can do good works. Long ago God prepared these works for us to do. (Eph 2:8-10, NIRV)

• For these reasons, we’ll never read the NIrV out loud as a family. The children do just fine listening to adults reading a mature translation.

But that said, I must agree with the NIrV’s preface: “People who are just starting to read will understand and enjoy the NIrV.” For it’s intended purpose, it’s great. I’m happy to recommend it as a stepping stool, but not as a cornerstone, for early childhood Bible education.

As my Grasshopper is getting older and getting closer to reading on his own, I've started debating on what Bible for him to use as a personal study Bible, as opposed to one with us. I love my NKJV Study Bible, and greatly appreciate the extra study features. I want a Bible that he can understand and that is targeted more for younger people. I also would love one that will give him those extra little study features. Most of the children's Bible that we've reviewed through the years have been passed on, since Grasshopper wasn't reading yet, and so I don't have them to look over for our current season of life anymore. (It wasn't until a friend asked for recommendations on children's Bibles that the light bulb fully clicked on wanting the study feature for my children, by the way. As of right now, for Bible class and Worship Services, they have simple NKJV Bibles, though Grasshopper has been using my ESV Slimline Bible. At home, we're more varied.)

As far as the NIrV goes, please don't take my post as a recommendation for it. I'm pretty new to it, and while I don't love the NIV, I don't avoid. I imagine I can say the same for the NIrV. I'm just a momma winging it! I want my children to understand and love God's Word, but they'll always need to be on the lookout for false teaching and false translations. I hope we can always discuss what they're reading and answer questions. Never rely on only one translation! (From what I've understood, the ASV is the closest word for word translation from the original.)

As far as the extra features, I really like them. The pictures are the same as in 101 Bible Stories from Creation to Revelation, done by Dan Andreasen. Actually, as I was debating hard whether to even try this particular Bible out, it was the pictures that swayed me to give it a try. I DO very much love Andreasen's illustrations! As far as I could tell, there aren't any new ones, though, if you have the other book. Actually, I think there are more pictures within the book than in this Bible.

There's lots of different study helps. There are full color/page illustrations, along with some smaller illustrations throughout. There also full color charts of various kinds and reading plans. ((Beware that there are plenty of "faith only" references in these charts, so if you believe as I do...that baptism washes away our sins(Acts 2:38)....then you'll have to do as we will, and edit a bit.))

As far as the full color, thick, glossy pages, here's what you'll get:

There's 4 pages that have 3 different reading plans to read the whole Bible. These pages also have several illustrations, along with Bible references to place them. There's a two page spread teaching about worship, and page with a few definitions. There's a page dedicated to The Bible, Books of the Bible, The Ten Commandments, God, Jesus, The Holy Spirit, Love, Prayer, The Lord's Prayer, Miracles, The Parables of Jesus, the ABCs of Becoming a Christian(editing for us)and 8 maps. There's also full page color illustrations within these color pages.

There's more color charts throughout, but on the same thin pages as the rest of the Bible. Each chapter will give you "good verses to read". There's little bits and pieces put into the text, too, like "Brain Games", with questions, "Soak it Up", which is Bible verses, and "Check it Out", which is like a super mini devotional.

Overall, it's a nice Bible, as far as extra features go.

Ready to dive into the Bible with a catchy Under the Sea Theme? Zonderkidz has come up with one, a beautiful hardback Bible geared for children aged six to ten. The cover itself is really eye catching with lots of brightly colored, glittery ocean life and fish. The translation is one made for kids, too. It is the New International Reader's Version or NlrV, the NIV for kids.

When this Bible is first opened, there is a beautiful presentation page made of heavy weight paper. It is colorful, and contains more ocean-theme characters. The back of the page contains all the books of the Bible, along with ocean-life decorations.

What this Bible has to offer for children is very appealing. There are three special sections geared toward children, and they are one page each. Each of those pages, front and back, are incredibly cute with lots of eye appeal, and contain things geared just for kids. Those pages, which are full color and made of heavy weight paper, contain:

- Prayer Is...
- The Lord's Prayer
- Ten Commandments For Kids (Based on Exodus 20:1-17 and Deuteronomy 5:7-21)
- Love Passage For Kids (Based on 1 Corinthians 13)
- Famous Children Of The Bible
- The ABCs Of Becoming A Christian

At the back of the volume, there is a list of Great Bible Stories along with a Bible Dictionary, but those are not printed on the special heavy-weight paper. There are no other pictures, maps or other supplemental material included in this Bible. Also, other than the presentation page along with the three special page inserts, the type of paper used for this Bible is the regular, very thin, onion-skin type of paper used in traditional Bibles. My concern is that six to ten year-old-fingers might have trouble turning those pages without tearing them.

Zonderkidz has done lots of things right in this Bible. They have kept it affordable with a suggested price of $24.99. Having a special version of the text geared towards children is also a wonderful idea. The cover is amazing, and the three supplemental pages are eye catching, and wonderfully creative, but that is where things stop. Since this is geared towards children, I would have liked to have seen at least six to nine or more "special" colorful pages in this Bible, along with a least one colorful map--more would be even better. There is a lot that is good in this 4 star Bible, but I think a little bit more would have made this a great Bible for children.

This is a very eye catching cover. It reminds me of The Disney cartoon movie Finding Nemo. I do think the bright colors and cartoons would appeal to children as this is designed for ages 6 to 10. It comes in hardback which means it will also be very durable which is usually a plus for this age range.

As you open the book the first page is a colorful presentation page and on the flip side a colorful bookshelf with the books of both the old and new testament. Each book is written on the spine of the book and categorized by what each section teaches. For instance, the first five books of the old testament are listed under law whereas the next 12 books are listed under history.

There is a table of contents, an alphabetical order listing for the books of the bible, and a brief introduction about the New International Reader's Version.

There are three colorful inserts.

The first is designed to explain what prayer is and how to go about praying. On the back is the Lord's prayer and explains that Jesus taught us to pray by example.

The second colorful insert is the ten commandments for kids. It is written in easy to understand language that's appropriate for children. On the back is Love Passages for kids which is based on 1 Corinthians 13 with again easy to understand language.

The third colorful insert talks about famous children in the bible and what books you can find their stories in. On the back is listed the ABCs of Becoming A Christian.

At the end of the bible you will find a dictionary to the New International Reader's Version.

Lastly there's a list of great bible stories with what books each story is located.


If you have a young child who enjoys the ocean and sea life then this would be a perfect gift. All throughout the bible it's self is easy to read and understand for a child. I think the biggest plus is that it's so easy to understand. Many children can read, but can they comprehend what they are reading. It appears to be written like a story which will pull a child's interest in. The pages are thin, but then again all bible pages are thin. The size would fit easily into a child's hand for reading or carrying around.

I do think this would be a perfect gift for a child. Yes, the younger (age 6) might need assistance in exactly how to use it at first, but it would still be a great gift.

Our 10 year old Lego Maniac’s eyes lit up when I showed him the cover of Zonderkidz new Faith Builders Bible. When I gave it to him, he quietly sat in our living room analyzing the 24 full-color pages depicting scenes from scripture cleverly constructed out of bricks. Soon afterwards, he set to building his own Faith Builders inspired sets and reenacting favorite stories of his own. Using this read-aloud friendly translation – New International Reader’s Version – as a guide. His excitement drew the attention of his younger sister and soon they were discussing the finite points of different passages and how they could best capture them using stop-motion animation.

We have a number of children’s bibles and storybooks in our home, so I asked my son what made this bible special. In his own way he relayed how the pictures helped him recall the events of each story. He also noted that he liked the inclusion of scripture references with the photos because they made it easier for him to search out the stories for himself. As a mom, I was pleased by the creativity that the book inspired and the discussions it sparked.

Overall, the Faith Builders Bible is very simply the complete NIrV (Genesis to Revelation). Beyond the color inserts, it offers a table of contents, a 5 page dictionary, and a list of Great Bible Stories. The pages are thin with some bleed through, however the 9 point font size is easy on the eyes. I feel the major draw of this children’s bible will be it’s ability to take children’s imaginations captive to the Word and to inspire creativity. It is the perfect gift bible for Lego fanatics!

My Review:
Bibles are the all the rage in our home we have several different versions because my husband is a minister and my daughter is also going to school to be a minister. We have several versions available just for them but the whole family is able to use them. I am here to tell you they can get very expensive. I paid $60 for mine but it had a lot of bells and whistles.

If you want a standard really easy to use version with OUT all the bells and whistles than this is the Bible for you. It is simple and it is used as an outreach Bible. It was cheap yp make and it's priced so that it is easy to give away. But really anyone could use it and it can still get the job done.

It is paperback and pretty large at a little over 1300 pages. The wording is simple and easy to understand and it looks to be average or standard size print. It even has some maps included. Perfect for Sunday school distribution.

I love journaling Bibles because journaling can be used as a form of worship. Writing thoughts, notes, and prayers right beside verses allows me to reflect on how each message made me feel or perhaps how I can apply them in my everyday life. This journaling Bible helps girls express their innermost thoughts and feelings in a wholesome and creative way.

Some of my favorite features of the NIrV Journal the Word Bible for Girls:

• An artsy, floral, and glossy hardcover
• An explanation page of the New International Reader’s Version
• An easy-to-read typeface on crisp white pages, with minimal see-through
• A traditional double column design
• Ample, blank journaling lines on each page (in margins)
• 100 verses to trace (print and cursive)
• An attached satin ribbon bookmark

This Bible is designed for girls 6-10 years old, and written at a third-grade level, but other than the verse-tracing, is truly suitable for all ages. The floral and dotted hardcover has a boho vibe to it and isn’t overly youthful, so I find it just as appealing as a child would.

With a pretty presentation page, this Bible makes a meaningful, soul-lifting, life-changing gift. And every NIrV Bible purchased helps Biblica translate and give Bibles to people in need around the world.

My Thoughts on this Bible


I love the cover of this Bible, with the colors and fish, it is very appealing to children. But I was really disappointed when I opened the Bible up. The font is very small, and pretty difficult to read.


There are several things in this Bible that will help children with their Bible study. The five page dictionary helps understand some of the words in the Bible, and the list of Great Bible Stories with verses to go along with the story are great tools to use with your children as they read this Bible. There are also several colorful pages throughout this Bible that are a beautiful addition.


Overall, I don't think this is a Bible I would purchase for small children, because of the very small font. I received this book from Blogging for Books to read and review. The Perfect Bible for a Star Wars Fan

I’ve watched all of the Star Wars films and while they have themes of good against evil and throw in some religious terms like, “May the Force Be with you” the movies have nothing to do with faith and God. The NIRV MAY THE FAITH BE WITH YOU HOLY BIBLE is a great Bible for these children.
The text of the New International Reader’s Version (NIrV) is combined with 24 full-color graphics and solid Biblical teaching. Star Wars like themes are throughout these pages. For example “Master Moment” or “Ways of Wisdom” are used on the pages to turn hearts and minds toward Scripture. Readers can learn about “Jesus comes to save the world” or “The miracles of Jesus.”

MAY THE FAITH BE WITH YOU HOLY BIBLE is great for those children who are into space. The cover kind of reminds me of a Star Wars theme, but it is appropriate for this Bible as it focuses on God, creation, and specifically outer space.
The imagery is well-done and fascinating.

This is a full version of the Bible in the NIrV and it does not have the words of Jesus in red, but it is ideal for tweens and elementary students to carry to church or Christian schools. Would make a great gift for your favorite space enthusiast.

I think that this is a good version of the Bible for older kids and probably teenagers. It’s easy to read and it’s a translation rather than a paraphrase. Recognize that it’s a version for reading rather than in-depth studying the Bible and then it will work great. I’m glad that I read this version.

This Bible has many great features. The NIrV is a third-grade level and makes understanding a lot easier. Meanwhile, the pictures and the stories on the back of the pictures are perfect for reading to the kids. And for really young (<3 yrs)...only read the words on the stories that are highlighted in bold. I'm glad to find this copy, and I'm hoping to find more.

Hands down best Bible for kids. Along with God's word, the authors have added fun ways for kids to learn and relate the stories to their lives. Just look at the cover! This is the way to get kids excited to read the Bible and apply the lessons in life.

Zonderkidz Faith Builders Bible is an amazing way of combining the love of scripture with the love of brick-building. This Bible comes in the New International Reader's Version (NIrV), with over 20 pages of colorful illustrations. Each of the illustrations comes with a short summary of what the event is pictured, and a Biblical verse to reference. The back of this Bible also comes with a short dictionary and a suggested list of wonderful Biblical stories, and what pages they can be found on.

This was our first New International Reader's Version (NIrV) Bible, and I am glad that there was a few pages to describe what this version is. It is actually based on the New International Version (NIV), but has been made easier for children and those learning to read to understand. Some of the words are shorter, and some of the names and places have been inserted into the scripture to make it clearer for children. There are also sections labeled in a chapter or a title given to a set of paragraphs to help the child know what the significance of that section is about. It is still accurate, as it was checked using the Greek New Testament and Hebrew Old Testament.

My sons and I have been studying the Old Testament so far this year in our homeschool studies. It was an exceptional time for us to receive the Faith Builders Bible because some of the pictures cover the stories we have studied, such as the animals of Noah's Ark, and the Ten Commandments. We also had an amazing time building the wall of Jericho out of building bricks, and trying to crash all of them down.

This Bible is also versatile as it can be used with younger and older children. As a homeschool Mom, I loved that it has a dictionary in the back because you could use that for vocabulary lessons. I also enjoyed the quick reference guide for suggested stories. My sons thought being able to do a Bible lesson and make things with building bricks was pretty cool. The illustrations don't come with directions on how to build them. I was upset about that at first, but then I realized that the illustrations are there for visual aid. It gave my sons a chance to be creative, and build the scene or event the way they imagined it would be.

There was much effort and time that went into making this edition of the Bible. It really does seem that the publisher, Zonderkidz did a wonderful job in picking this Bible to be a NIrV because it was meant to be viewed by children. It is ingenious that they combined this edition with illustrations of Biblical events, built with building bricks.

I would definitely recommend this Bible to anyone who has a child that loves to build things with building bricks. How awesome would it be for a child to get to know the words of scripture because of this amazing concept of a Faith Builders Bible! Building bricks is not even just a boy thing anymore either! My niece asked for building bricks (in girl colors of course!) for both Christmas and her birthday last year. My sons love reading about Biblical stories and making things with building bricks, so this Bible has found a very special spot in our home.

New International Reader's Version
NIrV Study Bible for kids

This new kids' Study Bible is quite good. It's not perfect, and some readers will probably compare it with the venerated King James Version. But, for people who are not native English Speakers, especially children and those who have studied English as a Second Language, this will be an easy accessible read.

There are two main differences between the NIrV and Bibles for adult readers and native speakers. The first and main difference is how verses are broken down. Those of us who regularly read the Bible have gotten used to sentences that are run-on sentences or often one long clause after another linked together by commas, dashes, hyphens, and semi-colons. This version fixes all that. For the most part, most of the semi-colons and commas have been changed to periods. This sometimes makes the Bible a bit clunky and sometimes there is a tiny bit of paraphrasing (or repetition of the obvious) but the verses become clearer. So there are many Bible verses which are no longer made of one sentence but of two or three.

For instance, instead of "A time to be born, a time to die" (KJV), there is now "There is a time to be born. And there's a time to die." The Bible doesn't feel bloated however.

The other main differences is in vocabulary. This change is somewhat iffy at times. Again, from Ecclesiastes.
"That doesn't have any meaning either. In fact, it's a very bad deal." Ecc. 4:8

Most of the vocabulary changes are not so trendy-hipster sounding and the book reads well. But there are a few moments when a reader will miss the majesty of certain verses or will cringe at what seems like banal-phrasing. Kids, of course, will not be bothered by that.

Other issues with the vocabulary occur when some spiritual meaning seems lost. John 3:16 no longer states, "His only begotten son" but states "His one and only son." Some people might not like this change; after all, Scripture later states that all who are in Christ are children of God. In another example, there are changes from "the lepers worshiped Jesus" to "the lepers kneeled before Jesus."

There are also some moments when it seems some words should have been changed to accomodate younger children.

The cover is a hard-cover. There are several illustrations which are used to depict some larger spiritual truth. The typical information one finds in the Bible are present here as well, but they are written for children. So, for instance, the section which lists the books of the Bible is illustrated as books on a bookshelf.
