Eighteen thousand fans watched another woman kiss my husband on the jumbotron. The worst part? I was sitting in the stands wearing his jersey.
Eleven years of marriage. Three trades. One $96 million contract. I was there for all of it.
I was the woman waking up at four in the morning to drive Rhys Holt to practice before anyone knew his name. The wife who packed up our lives every time he got traded. The one he still texted before every game. The one he pointed to after every goal.
The whole world thought we had the perfect marriage. So did I.
Until the kiss cam landed on my husband in the owner's suite. With the owner's daughter. She leaned in. Wrapped her hand around his neck. Pressed her lips to his.
And my husband didn't pull away.
By morning, forty million people had watched the video. Rhys swore it meant nothing. His agent called it a misunderstanding. The team released a statement suggesting I was overreacting.
Apparently, I was supposed to smile, forgive him, and go back to being the perfect hockey wife.
Instead, I walked onto the ice before his next game and left my wedding ring at center ice.
Now Rhys is begging me to come home. He says there's more to that kiss than I know. That someone set him up. That he'd never betray me.
Maybe he's telling the truth. But I know what I saw. I know how it felt to watch my husband humiliate me in front of the entire world. And if he wants me back, he's going to have to do a hell of a lot more than apologize.
Because he spent eleven years making me believe I was his whole world. Now he gets to find out what his world looks like without me.

You know a book is going to be terrible when they can’t even count. I DNF this book at 62%. I skimmed to the end, but I really should have deleted this book at 10%.
This book was drier than a cotton-mouthed walk of shame at sunrise.
Everything in this book is delivered with zero emotion.
Possible spoilers ahead
Let me set this dumpster fire up. MMC and FMC have been married for 12 years. For the last 18 months. MMC has grown distant from his wife…so much so, he’s sleeping in the spare room. He plays in the NHL. She is Susie homemaker; she gave up her career as a photographer to follow him around.
The MMC was injured weeks beforehand, so he’s not playing in the game. He goes to the owner’s suite to watch while his wife sits in her normal section. The kiss cam comes on, and the owner’s daughter kisses the MMC for 4 seconds. I guess the FMC is devastated, but it’s hard to tell because she’s a cardboard cutout. She asked him about it later, and he tells her, “It was nothing” She packs her things and leaves to go to her sister’s house. He’s like…whatever. 🤷♀️ He leaves too. Rents a warehouse apartment.
Why are these millionaires both leaving their house? The MMC showed zero emotion about the FMC leaving.
A tiny bit of backstory: MMC found out a few hours before the kiss cam that his hip/leg is badly injured; he needs surgery, and he won’t be able to play hockey anymore. Or he can ignore it, keep taking shots, and he will never walk correctly again. HE DOES NOT TELL THE FMC ANY OF THIS (because who would love him if he’s not a hockey player, right?) He was not interested in the owner’s daughter, and he was caught off guard. It’s really a non-issue. The owner’s daughter is an influencer, and she was trying to pump up sales for her podcast.
The FMC gets blasted all over social media. Her solution to all this….the next game she walks out on the ice and puts her wedding ring right in the middle of the rink. 💀💀💀💀 THAT’LL SHOW THEM ALL. YOU GO, GIRL!
Ffs
Anywho….these two don’t even talk to each other for the first 50%. They both count pillar posts, or keep detailed timelines in their heads.
For example: (paraphrasing)“ I’m at pillar #3, and I walk 4 steps, not 6 steps, and wait until 4:59 pm to move again” or “I saw the moment at 2:32 and made the decision at 2:37. Not at 2:36. Only at 2:37.
What the what?
Then the author mentions so many times “sodium lights,” and I swear I thought she meant stadium lights. I had to Google that because I thought I was crazy. 🤪 I’m mentioning this because “sodium lights” is mentioned 24 times in this book. *GASP* yesssss. 24 times. UGH
You get a lot of information about the yearly ticket holders and the section they all sit in. Idc about any of this.
These two characters did so many mundane things, but once a week MMC would be at pillar #3 on parking lot #1 at exactly 4:24 for the FMC to ask him ONE question. She always asked the dumbest question, then they would both leave.
IT WAS THE STRANGEST RELATIONSHIP I’VE EVER READ
I can’t even tell you if the MMC even wanted the FMC back. They both seemed to be stuck in the “whatever” phase, and they couldn’t get out.
The FMC is a photographer, and you won’t forget that, because the author will tell us about every single camera, lens, model number, and how it takes photos. We even know how the camera feels. I wish I was making this up. 💀 Apparently, she’s so good at it that she’s been nothing but a homemaker for 12 years, then gets back into it. She quickly gets her own special showing of all her photos. This is after she gets a top job taking photos for a news organization.
At 62%, I just couldn’t do it anymore. It felt like a chore instead of entertainment. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes I love a bad book. I can overlook flaws and just go with the goofy. Anybody who follows me KNOWS that I tend to read bad shifter and betrayal books. Some of those are so bad it’s almost criminal. Usually, I can find these bad books funny. Not with this one.
I usually won’t rate a book I DNF, but I think I earned the right here. This book was one of the worst I’ve read this year. I do think AI was used a LOT, and sadly, it didn’t even help.
If there is a book Razzie award, I nominate this one. 🏆
I’m annoyed. These MCs haven’t had a proper conversation about anything and I’m 30% in !!! Like she’ll ask him a question and he’ll answer then she walks away and then 10 pages later another question, he answers, and then she leaves and so on and so forth. The mmc is doing nothing at this point to win her back. Yeah, I’m out 👎
Writing style is excruciating & long-winded & overly detailed. The relationship stuff is cold, unfeeling, third-person, & distant. The woman he kissed has nothing happen to her (she should've been punished hard) & MMC has literally no reaction when anything happens, not even sadness when his wife leaves. He just signs the divorce papers & goes on with life. She clearly doesn't matter to him at all. The few times they meet to walk together make no sense & don't show either has any connection with eachother at all. MFC has no emotions & the few she has seem all over the place on her dad or sister, not her husband. MFC seems to be a moron, too, taking a job for the team that betrayed her marriage & where she was humiliated as if everything is hunky-dory. Makes no sense. The HEA isn't. There's literally no case, reason, or sentiment for why they're staying together. None. They don't love each other with any kind of passion or tenderness at all, and no reader will buy that they earned a HEA together. Pass on this one. Ugh.
