The Finn Factor

Rate this book
A new adult romance from Entangled's Embrace imprint...

Sometimes all a girl needs is a little practice...

It's been twelve months, three days, and eleven hours since accounting student Scarlett Logan made it past a second date. A pitcher of mojitos in hand, she employs her supreme graphing skills to narrow things down to one horrifying explanation. Kissing. Clearly someone needs to teach her how to kiss properly. Like, say, her best friend and roomie, Finn Mackenzie. He's safe, he's convenient, and yeah, maybe just a little gorgeous.

Finn knows exactly why Scarlett's boyfriends are disappearing quickly. Him. Not a single guy she's brought home is nearly good enough. And he'll be damned if he lets some loser give her "kissing lessons." No. He'll do the honors, thank you very much. The moment their lips touch, though, everything turns upside down. But Scarlett deserves the one thing Finn can't give her. And if he doesn't put an end to the sexy little shenanigans, he'll teach Scarlett the hardest lesson of all...heartbreak.

Scarlett finds herself in a bit of a dry spell and thinks she’s finally figured out what has caused her love life to plummet. But when Finn learns that she plans on fine tuning her kissing skills on someone else, he can’t let that happen. A quick kiss between best friends. That is all it was supposed to be. But it became everything neither of them realized they were waiting for.

The Finn Factor was my first read by author, Rachel Bailey – I read the blurb when this NA Romance popped up on my NetGallery account as a recommended read and I was hooked. I love a great friends-to-lovers romance and although nerdy hero types aren’t usually my thing, I fell in love with Finn.

Finn and Scarlett become fast friends when an unfortunate incident has Finn’s protective side coming out, after losing both his parents and becoming the sole guardian for his two younger sisters, Finn’s life is anything but simple. Scarlett has been tossed between homes, living a life as a nomad with her hippie parents, only wanting to dig her heels into a place to finally call home. Stability. For a girl like Scarlett, moving in with Finn was just that. A place to call home. But that is where it all falls apart. Her dating life is non-existent, but she has no idea that Finn is behind all the lack of second or third dates.

I loved that these two had this easy friendship. It wasn’t this torn up mess of sexual awareness or tension, it was easy. And when the flip is switched when Finn gives Scarlett that first kiss, I became their biggest cheerleader.

Both these characters were saddled so much with their pasts but weren’t quite broken. They had their cracks, but the way they were drawn was with strength. For Finn he had to come to terms with the loss of his parents and the responsibility of being a parent to his kid sisters, while learning to also live for himself. With Scarlett, home was always such a fleeting idea – balancing the need for stability and understanding what truly anchored her was something she had to learn for herself.

In the end, this book was exactly what the blurb promised. A fantastically written friends to lover’s romance. The drama of the outside world was low, the sexual tension once these two let go was off the charts and the story itself was a fun read.

The Finn Factor

Wow! I'm just going to come right out and say that I absolutely loved this book. The Finn Factor is by new-to-me author Rachel Bailey. It is a standalone novel and does have an HEA. I feel it is crucial to tell you all that, because of the amount of angst in this book. It's a full on, holy crap where did this come from, friends to lovers, angst fest. It is extremely well written and you have dual first-person point-of-views.

Lets get down to the nitty gritty, shall we? Scarlett and Finn have been roommates for closet two years now. When I say that they have a completely platonic friendship, I couldn't be more serious. These two are not even on each others radar. While they both know and will tell you that the other is attractive and appealing, they just don't see each other in that light.

Scarlett keeps going on these dates with guys that Finn doesn't "approve" of. So, he runs them off, literally. Not that he's telling Scarlett about this, she's clueless. She drags around after the latest date thinking she's broken. (The Mojitos don't help.) This girl is a graph-loving bundle of hormones. What does she do? She sits down and graphs it all out while dragging Finn along for the graphing adventure. He's obviously reluctant but whats a best friend to do? Scarlett lists every date she's ever been on, including if she kissed them or not. Coming to her own conclusions, she decided she is "broken" and she obviously needs kissing lessons. Guys kiss her and she never sees them again. Toxic lip syndrome! She's convinced of it.

Finn is extremely over protective, he's taken it upon himself to be the judge, jury and basically executioner of Scarlett's dates. They vanish and he knows why, he sends them packing. It has nothing to do with Scarlett and everything to do with him thinking they aren't good enough for her. He puts his foot in it when Scarlett enlists him to help her with kissing lessons, because for some reason, he's twitching when she says she'll ask someone else. Finn finally agrees to these kissing lessons.

I'm not joking y'all.. All I could see in my head was this. This is honestly how I pictured this whole scene going and I was ready to giggle.

tumblr_lrfztnUn7Z1qkc2v6o1_250

yougottapu_6IZ6NGQC

I was just waiting for it to be awkward because of the inner monologue of both of them. They even set out rules for this whole kissing lesson. So imagine my surprise when it ended up like this.

tumblr_inline_nsseo1OixL1rh3s5s_500

Of course, I was completely dumbfounded but holy guacamole on a chip. It was hot, it was very hot and all they did was kiss! Wait, hold on, let me take a moment to fan my face..... Okay then! I expected it to be something, but these two practically implode and it takes them both by surprise.

Instantly these two started fighting an attraction that just was not going to stop. What do you do when you're suddenly attracted to your best friend, who is also your roommate? Finn and Scarlett are not the norm. I'll tell you that much, they decided it couldn't happen again. Let the angst fest begin!

They have a lot to work out and work through. Issues pop up, you have a quirky cast of co-stars that can be downright hilarious. Scarlett's mother in particular is a gem. She had me in horrified gigglefits. Over all, a four star read, and one I'd highly recommend.

There were a few things that excited me about this book. I saw the blurb and I was like hell yes! I love a friends to lovers romance. And Finn and Scarlett are definitely best friends. They share everything, go everywhere together, and are each other's support system in ever way. Add in the simple complication that they are roommates and I am even more sold.

So, Scarlett has been having a bit of a second date drought. She cannot seem to get guys to take her on more than one date and she determines that it must be her kissing skills. So Finn and Scarlett decide to have a little kissing lesson, with each other. EEEP!

"You gave me a kissing lesson for Christ's sake."

And boy does this complicate things. These kissing lessons reveal their attraction to each other which in equal parts terrifies and elates these characters. They do not want to ruin this meaningful friendship that they have so they decide not to take things any further even if they are dying too!

"We won't. Even if you me kiss again like your life depended on it. Even if I'm so turned on right now that I'm trembling."

Yes, so the sexual tension between these characters was through the roof. It was pretty smoking hot and the kissing lessons were like whoa! Whew! But also, these characters were each others support system and they really NEEDED one another. This had me rooting for them to pull through and realize their TRUE feelings.

I have never had the pleasure of reading Rachel Bailey before and I'm so glad that I gave her a chance. The writing was fantastic and the story was told in dual point of view. This happens to be one of my favorite writing styles! The writing was also funny and snarky and I found myself laughing out loud quite a bit. But, my favorite part of the story was Finn. I love me a smart and sexy nerdy guy and he really is the epitome of that. This is a fun friends to lovers romance!

I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

There is a memorable cast of quirky characters. Scarlett is scattered. Raised by hippie parents, she had a nomadic childhood. She’s desperate for stability, but turns and runs as soon as things hint at getting tough. Finn is strong, solid and stable. He became the guardian of two younger sisters when their parents died in an accident. He is the perfect balance of sweet and caring and strong masculinity. Apparently, he is also a talented kisser. Finn is definitely the star of this novel. Scarlett’s parents are a hoot; they are a perfect embarrassment. Finn’s and Scarlett’s friends are great sounding boards for their respective “love life woes” conversations, and those conversations are often catalysts for change within the storyline.

The Finn Factor is set in Australia, and it is a first-person, dual-POV narrative. Friends for four years and roommates for two years, Scarlett and Finn are perfectly happy with the status quo. At least, they’re happy until Scarlett charts out her declining love life which results in Finn giving her kissing lessons. Those kissing lessons are smolderingly hot!! The pair alternates between daydreaming of that kiss and worrying about losing their best friend. Readers will be rooting for this pair to get their acts together. Can they drop their walls and give a relationship a chance?

“You’re my home, Finn. As long as I have you by my side, I’ll feel safe and settled as I’ll ever need.”

The Finn Factor is a fun, well-paced read. The writing is great. All of the characters are likable, and Finn is absolutely lovable. Rachel Bailey’s NA romance is not overly angsty. It is filled with memorable characters. The engaging friends-to-lovers story line is kept interesting with the unique plot twists.

The Finn Factor is a four-star read that could only get better with one of Scarlett’s frozen mojitos.

This was a light and fluffy friends-to-lovers romance but I found it slightly boring

To make the friends-to-lovers trope more interesting, Finn and Scarlett have lived together for four years without going down the touchy feely path. Then suddenly Scarlett is worried that her dating life has dwindled because she’s a bad kisser so she comes up with the idea of enlisting an actor she knows to aid in her ‘kissing lessons’ which has Finn—who is actually responsible for her nearly nonexistent dating life—, instantly volunteering for the role. Now that they have kissed, it’s all they can think about but if they venture forth into unchartered relationship territory, they could lose their friendship.

Okay, so I don’t know about this one. I picked it up for review because it had the friends-to-lovers trope and I do love a good friends-to-lovers romance, but I couldn’t really get interested in this book until it was nearly over.

I really struggled with the first few chapters and nearly put the put down for good. While I know this is a NA read and characters tend to have a younger more immature slant to them—Scarlett, with her ice maker obsession and apple-berry lip gloss, sort of had a YA vibe and I had to force myself to keep reading.

Scarlett, while she does occasionally come off as childish, was sweet, caring, and artistic. She’s holding back a bit but eventually she figures out who she is. I thought that I would like Finn a bit more than I did. His parents died leaving him guardian of his two young sisters, so he’s been through a lot and has some issues to overcome but he’s so guarded that even though this was told in both of their POVs, I never really felt that I got to know who Finn was, so he came off as flat.

Overall, the first 70% of the book just seemed a bit boring to me. It did finally hold my attention, but left me wanting more from the characters. I think that readers 16-18 would probably like this book.

Scarlett Logan is suffering a long, torturous dry spell. It's been more than a year since she's made it past the first date with a man, and she's determined to get to the bottom of what’s going wrong. A jug of mojitos and an evening spent graphing her dating history lead Scarlett to believe that she's a bad kisser, and that's why the men don't come back for more. She decides the only way to pull herself out of the slump is to get kissing lessons from a local actor.

Finn MacKenzie is Scarlett's best friend, roommate, and the reason she can't get a second date. He’s secretly been chasing off her dates for almost as long as he’s known her. He's appalled at the idea of Scarlett getting kissing lessons from some guy, any guy, and offers to provide them to her himself. The kiss—the one supposed to be only practice for Scarlett to use on other dates—turns both of their worlds upside down.

This story was adorable. It's the perfect light hearted friends-to-lovers romance. Finn is studious and serious. He's bearing the weight of the world on his shoulders as acting guardian to his two younger sisters, and self-appointed guardian of Scarlett's heart. He’s a natural care giver—strong, silent, and fiercely protective.

Scarlett is fun and sweet—she's patient and level headed, pitching in when she's needed and keeping Finn grounded. She’s been helping him raise his sisters without giving it a second thought because, to Scarlett, that’s what you do for the people you love. Together they're tender and sweet and hot, hot, hot.

Surrounded by a secondary cast of quirky, hilarious characters that made me laugh out loud more than once, Scarlett and Finn were sweet, swoony, sexy, and occasionally infuriating. This book balances tough situations and the crazy curveballs that life throws at you while remaining light and fun and oh, so sweet. I spent most of the book with my heart aflutter, watching Scarlett and Finn dance around each other, trying to figure out how to navigate their way from friends to lovers to...more. It’s well written and delightful—a true "feel good" book. ~ Shelly, 4 stars

This story was a fantastic mix of charming, light-hearted, sweet romance with a side of sexiness.

Finn and Scarlett are best friends. They are also roommates, and have been there for each other through numerous things. Scarlett is having a sexual dry spell and assumes that her problem is her kissing. This ends up leading to kissing lessons. Kissing lessons with her best friend, Finn. However, kissing is so not the issue, as much as Finn is the issue.

“Of course, she’s stab me in my sleep is she knew what I was doing – probably with her favorite electric bread knife – but it was worth the risk. She really needed to start picking a better class of guy.”

And The Finn Factor is born. He has been interfering in Scarlett’s dating life for the last four years. Of course, he never realized he interfered because he had feelings for her.

“The walls around our relationship had worked out well for four years. They kept me seeing her as my friend, Scarlett, not as a gorgeous girl. Until that kiss…Now we had a problem.”

The Finn Factor is such a feel-good story. I love friends-to-lovers romance, and this one was amazing! There was such a great dynamic between Scarlett and Finn as friends, made even better as they worked through becoming more. I loved the family dynamic. And Harvey was the perfect addition. I really enjoyed this story!! ~ Tiffany, 4 stars

What do you do if you haven't managed to get past one date over a period of just over a year ? Prior to this, Scarlett was in short- long term relationships but the past year she has gone through a major dryspell and one night along with her best friend, she decides to draw a chart and work out what is wrong with her and she comes to the conclusion - that she must be a horrible and bad kisser. Enter best friend and roommate Finn - he is the "real" reason why none of the guys last longer than one or two dates aka The Finn Factor. But , he's not ready to tell Scarlett that it's all his fault, so he decides to step in and help her kiss - this turns out to be a bad mistake as the two of them have major kissing chemistry - like fireworks passion. Over the next few chapters , we read as the two try and ignore their feelings for one another by dating others - it's as clear as day to everyone else that Finn and Scarlet should be together .The thing though is that these two are best friends and Scarlet is worried that if they try something and it turns bad that they would never speak to each other again and she doesn't want to ever lose him from her life. Can Finn prove to Scarlet that he loves her and would never let that happen and that he is willing to be her "forever guy" ?
I have to admit I really liked the character of Finn in this book as in a way it reminded me of my best guy friend as his emotions are hard to read as well and he finds it hard to get close to anyone in the romantic way and I really did feel for Finn as he lost his parents when he was 18 and became an instant dad/guardian to his two younger sisters.

An awesome read that I absolutely loved!! Adored the characters, Finn and his geeky personality is the best. The writing and pace of the story made this one very enjoyable.

Scarlett Logan has been in a bit of a dry spell. Seems she can't past the first date kiss good night. Not understanding why she turns to her best friend and roommate, Finn McKenzie for help. She's convinced it must be her kissing technique so who else to help her fix it but her best friend? Problem is once that first kiss happens their relationship seems to take a turn. While they both try and fight it not wanting to lose what they have, can you ever really forget the most memorable kiss of your life??

This is one I definitely recommend to everyone.

Don't you just love a friends to lover romance??? I do and this is a fresh take on that theme! Finn and Scarlett are best friends. They live together, share everything, do everything together, and are always there for the other. The only thing they have never shared was a bed. It was never a conscious thought until Scarlett asks for a favor.

Scarlett has been going through a drought she calls it. She's been dating but never gets beyond a couple of dates. She graphs out her dating history and determines it's her and pinpoints it has to be her kissing skills. She asks Finn for some kissing lessons. And we are off!!!

After both are dumbfounded after they kiss, they don't know how to behave. They don't want to complicate things so they are determined to never do that again. Their friendship means the world to each of them, but neither can stop thinking about kissing the other again! They literally can't function. But if things didn't work out....

Boy the sexual angst runs rampant in this story! Plus complications abound! No matter how hard they try, they can't fight their attraction to each other. It is a wonder but its just as terrifying too. Wow! The kissing lessons are hot! They needed each other for different reasons-some they didn't even realize. I wanted them to wake up and understand this type of thing doesn't happen everyday and to go for it! I was in their corner and loved the way the story unfolded!

This was my first book by Rachel Bailey and I really enjoyed her writing! This gives us dual point-of-views and I feel that is such an added benefit! I like knowing how the character feels and why they do something. Plus add in a witty dialogue and some funny moments and you have hit on your hands! This friends to lovers journey was both funny and oh so memorable!

2-1/2 stars.

I feel like I've read this story before, and that's because I have. It's a pretty popular thing in New Adult for a sweet girl to be inexperienced and her best friend, who just happens to be the hottest guy and biggest player ever, to offer to help her in that department. It could be sex or kissing or just attracting guys in general. But of course, one taste won't be enough and the guy falls for the girl, all while pretending he didn't because he's not good enough for her. Did this happen to any of you in college (or high school)? Me neither. But then again, I wasn't really the sweet, inexperienced one. ;)

Anyway, to the story. You already know what it's about. I liked these characters. Of course, I liked Finn. He's a great guy and there's definite sparks between him and Scarlett. This story just didn't stand out a whole lot to me. It's sweet and sexy and fun, and if you love New Adult friends-to-more stories, you'll enjoy this one.

This was a cute and quick read. The dialogue was witty and fun. This book had me laughing out load at inappropriate times.

Scarlett is a very fun character to get to know. She thinks about a million miles an hour, but ends up filling in the blanks when prompted because most of what she "said" is only in her head. I loved that about her because I have a few moments where my head is a war zone as well. She's so preoccupied in getting a boyfriend that she doesn't see what Finn has been doing for the last few years.

Finn is a nerd and a good looking one at that. He's obsessed with the most obscure subjects that it eventually becomes endearing (keyword: eventually). It turns out he's the reason Scarlett's dates never show up more than twice and when Scarlett finally figures it out things quickly escalate.

I really liked getting to know Scarlett's hippy parents, even though I disagreed wholeheartedly with their way of life and teaching methods. Finn's sister's were a great addition to the story and helped move the plot at a better pace. I also loved the dog!

The Finn Factor is a light and easy read, low on angst and high on sweetness -exactly what I was looking for! Even though the blurb might sound like your typical "fell for the best friend" scenario, the characters are quirky and very charismatic which makes it stand out.

Finn is an archaeomusicologist (I didn't even know that was a thing) who apparently only wears pale blue shirts. He is the legal guardian for his two little sisters, who are not so little anymore but he still protects them and takes care of all the girls in his life. This also includes Scarlett, his best friend and roommate. He is caring and loyal and I loved the interactions between him and Scarlett. Their relationship and everything going on around them was funny and entertaining; her hippie parents camping in the backyard, arm knitting scarves for the stray dog, Scarlett's special relationship with the ice maker. Like I said, they are quirky and I totally digged that. On a side note, I googled arm knitting and was baffled to discover that it's also a real thing, I even watched a video. Anyway, The Finn Factor is adorable and funny and will leave you with a smile on your face!

This delightful friends to lovers romance is the story of Finn and Scarlett. When Finn rescues Scarlett from his roommate's abusive advances, he becomes a protector of sorts for her, slotting her into his life like his two sisters that's he's cared for since their parents died when he was younger and took guardianship of them. She's his roommate now, and he's gotten into the habit of vetting her dates, finding none of them are good enough for her. Scarlett can't figure out why none of the guys she's dating seem to stick and figuring it must be something about her, vows to improve her kissing technique to at least start the relationships off right. And safe, steady Finn seems like the perfect non-stressful choice. But once they've had a taste of what could be there is no going back. Can they find a way to keep their friendship intact while moving into a deeper emotional relationship?

I really enjoyed this story! For a new adult romance, I was pleasantly surprised that the angst level was kept to a minimum. Though Finn's parents died young, the grief of that event isn't expounded upon in detail, and more treated like it's a fact of life that they just have to deal with. Of course it has shaped Finn's character to be a parental figure for his sisters, and causes him some stress in worrying about their future. But I didn't find it overly emotional. Scarlett's upbringing is definitely out of the norm, with hippie like parents who never settled for long in one place, and as a result she finds the security of living with Finn to be exactly what she needs to steady her life and their friendship as a result is rock solid. They've never entertained anything different in their relationship - until Scarlett's kissing practice request throws everything into disarray. Because suddenly there is a long buried chemistry between them that rushes to the surface and changes everything. I loved how they started to explore this new side to their relationship, and their eventual love scenes are steamy and emotional. It was interesting to see their thought processes as they started to realize what they had been missing, and having the dual points of view made for a realistic take on their relationship. The conflicts that come up as a result of the changes create some tense and emotional moments, and I really felt for Scarlett as she struggled with her views of what her future should be versus what she really wanted. There were a few tears shed as a result, but the ending was sweetly satisfying. Overall it was a really enjoyable and entertaining story. 4.5 stars.

When a housemate starts giving kissing lessons, get ready to toss that friendship out of the window and slide down that slippery slope into the burning unknown. At least that's the story of The Finn Factor, when a deluded guy convinces himself that it's for his housemate's own good to scare off her dates. The rather predictable plot is countered by memorable characters and I thought Finn as the star of the show, surprising me only in the way a female author writing him could. In fact, he proved more pleasingly sensitive than usual and his ready admission of his issues as well as his giving nature made him much more likeable than Scarlett, who came off more self-centred than I would have appreciated. Obsessed with the thought of instability holding her captive for the rest of her life, Scarlett does the very thing to Finn that he fears most - abandonment - only to get her own personal and remorseful epiphany late in the book when I felt she'd short-changed him for too long.

As far as NA books go, The Finn Factor isn't the angsty rollercoaster or a standout. But I'll probably remember it for the rare, sweet male protagonist who can hold his man-card and still talk about his own emotions.

This was a friends to lovers kinda story, very entertaining all in all.

We have Finn and Scarlett, best friends living together. All in all, everything was normal, until Scarlett realized that she needed kissing lessons… from Finn. Then everything changed, now they couldn’t see each other just as good friends.

We got to see why they were such good friends, and how much they cared for each other. Not only they got along, but their families were also a big part of their interactions.

The story was kinda of a slow burn for these guys, but nothing dragged and it was the perfect pace for them, especially considering Finn’s hang ups.

All in all, a fun read.

I’ve long been a fan of Rachel Bailey’s category romances, so it was with great excitement I waited for the release of her second foray into New Adult romance, The Finn Factor. I wasn’t disappointed. Ms Bailey rocks the first person point of view in this tale of friends to lovers.
Absolutely enjoyed every moment of this read. A good balance of humour and emotion tied in with well drawn characters and a great plot. I didn’t think I’d enjoy a New Adult romance (I’m the mother of a new adult – it’s both a challenge and a blessing!) but Ms Bailey hits the nail squarely on the head with this one. I’m a convert. Off to read The Summer of Jake.

In all the time that I have read romances never have I read a book like The Finn Factor. Using mathematics and calculations to equate love. The concept is unique and over the top. Yet it works. Scarlett feels safe when she can logically figure things out. So she is sticking with what she knows. On the other hand it would help if she had all the facts. Enter Finn. The Finn Factor is an enchanting look at love, friendship and figuring things out. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a nice friends-to-lovers story, which was quite funny inbetween and very sweet.

Finn and Scarlett were great characters and I could understand how their friendship has formed to what they had.
I loved Finns sisters, both were really nice additions and brought a bit extra into this book.

the pacing was good as well ...

so why only 3,5 stars: that is quite a difficult question actually. I liked it but on the other hand I was always waiting for the bit more to happen or a bit more sparks.

nevertheless, it was a fluffy and quick sweet romance

Scarlett Logan is going through a dry spell that has lasted longer than she likes, and she turns to her best friend and roomie, Finn Mackenzie for help. Practice kissing him has sparked feelings that she had never noticed before and suddenly safe and solid Finn has become a dating option. But he's been hiding something from her and if she discovers his secret he might just end up losing the only girl who is exactly what he needs in his life.

O livro tinha potencial para ser beeeem melhor!!! Uma pena. Eu gostei do Finn, ele espantando os peguetes da Scarlett foi muito engraçadinho.

A trama vai perdendo o gás e ficando pouco empolgante. Os personagens secundários adicionaram muito pouco a história. Poderia ter sido melhor.

What a fantastic, heartwarming, funny, tear-jerker, friends to lovers romance - you run through the whole gamut of emotional responses whilst reading this delightful, well written and engaging story! This is one of those books you rarely come across that will stay with you and is definitely a keeper as far as I’m concerned - complex, well written characters that develop through their experiences in the story and a roller coaster plot with so many twists and turns, ups and downs, you just hope the safety mechanisms are all in place to ensure a safe journey to the end and beyond!

Scarlett Logan can’t work out what’s going wrong with her love life. She’s taken a break from studying accountancy and is working as a receptionist but something is wrong, she doesn’t seem to be able to sustain a long term relationship - indeed she’s not even getting to a third date. She decides to analyse the situation, collecting all the data and making a spreadsheet to help her do so and makes a horrifying discovery . . . and determines that the remedy is for her to learn how to kiss properly.

She discusses this with her housemate and best friend, Finn Mackenzie, who actually volunteers to do the teaching after hearing she was going to ask an actor client to help her.
Finn is such a great character! When he was eighteen his parents were tragically killed so he stepped in to bring up his two younger sisters, acting as their parent as well as their big brother. He’s wary of letting anyone else in to his heart except for Scarlett, who is such a special friend. Mind you she might not be quite so happy if she learns that Finn knows the real reason Scarlett is on a romantic slump - he’s vetting her boyfriends and letting them know if he doesn’t think they are good enough for her! As far as he’s concerned none of them have come anywhere near to being good enough.

He doesn’t want some actor teaching her, he’ll protect her and do it himself. Little do either of them know what this will start! The chemistry between them is explosive but neither want to risk their friendship for a fling that may not last. Can they overcome their fears and explore the possibilities? Will their friendship survive if they do? Can either of them survive the torment of their mutual attraction if they don’t give their love a chance?

As well as Finn and Scarlett, there are such a great range of characters in this story -Scarlett’s hippy, nomadic parents, Finn’s delightful sisters, both of them also have great colleagues! Their journey to their HEA is definitely not a smooth one - there are so many emotional hurdles for both of them to overcome that, at times, you wonder how on earth they can overcome them and if they might not succeed in doing so.

The Finn Factor is a fantastic fun romantic read and is definitely a five star read for me, no hesitation whatsoever. If you enjoy friends to lovers romances or ones with great family turmoil, you’ll love this superbly crafted story by an author I will definitely be looking out for in future!

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley, too, for letting me read an ARC of this book in exchange for this, an honest review.

Review by Trinette Dungee

Scarlett and Finn are best friends and roommates. They’ve never crossed the line and never felt the need to until that first kiss; the kiss that’s supposed to help Scarlett move on with her dating life...
Scarlett Logan is in a slump. She can’t seem to get passed a first date. After constant replays of dates she finally determines that it’s the goodnight kiss that kills that next date for her. She decides she needs kissing lessons and sets out to find the perfect teacher. She’s more than shocked when Finn offers to be her teacher.

Finn Mackenzie is very much aware of Scarlett’s slump after all it may have something to do with him warding off any potential suitors that he doesn’t deem good enough. And when Scarlett decides she needs kissing lessons, well the only one good enough to do that is him.

When I first read the description of the book (not the one above), I thought to myself…this storyline could go really wrong or really, really right. You already know going in that the kiss is going to change things between them the mystery was how. The shift in the relationship wasn’t “oh wow, now things are awkward between us”; of course there was some awkwardness but to their credit Finn and Scarlett recognize right away that they are physically attracted to one another and they definitely have chemistry. After realizing that they both have been sabotaging the other’s relationships on some level or another, they decide to give it a go as a couple so the shift in the relationship (for me at least) was that Finn and Scarlett are both looking for different things in their lives and what they want in the future doesn’t exactly align. Finn seeks freedom and Scarlett seeks safety.

After the unexpected death of his parents Finn was thrown into the role of parent to his two younger sisters. His life has been put on hold until his youngest sister is out of high school at the least. At twenty-five he hasn’t had the opportunity to be experience life, to be free, to have no responsibilities. While he loves his sisters more than anything he still craves that freedom to just basically do him. Having suffered such a great loss Finn also keeps himself detached. He doesn’t having meaningful relationships with women; in fact he’s so detached that he basically neglects any woman he is dating.

Growing up with hippie parents, Scarlett was never in one place for very long; was never really able to make friends and most of all she never knew what stability felt like. She’s so desperate for it that she has a major in college that doesn’t appeal to her, a job that doesn’t appeal to her and she suppresses her creative side all to give herself some sense of normalcy.

While the story dragged a little in places for the most part I enjoyed it.

“Because I wanted to be the one to touch you.” Another step, and he gently pressed me back against the wall with his body along mine. “Because I’m the one that can barely sleep at night, knowing you’re just down the hall. In your bed. Practically naked.”

It has been a while since Scarlett Logan made it past the second date with men, and she was determined to know what went wrong. After several graphs and analyzing it intensively, she formed a hypothesis that maybe she haven’t passed a second date because she was a bad kisser! She decided that one way to get out of this drought is to get kissing lesson from her best friend, and roomie: Finn Mackenzie.

Unknown to Scarlett, Finn was the reason she couldn’t have a second date. He’s been secretly chasing off her dates ever since she came to live with him. He thinks no guy is good enough for his friend, and when she told him of her plans: he’d be damned before he allow her to get those kissing lessons elsewhere. So, he offered himself and his world turned upside down.

Finn was a great character, being projected as a caring, responsible older brother who acted as guardian to his two younger sisters. Scarlett is pretty amazing too: she’s sweet and patient and does not think twice about lending a hand with Finn when it comes to his sisters. I think that’s why they were perfect for each other.

I love how the story goes, their journey from friends-lovers was indeed a delight – couple it up with his sisters and her parents, not to mention an adorable dog makes this one a really enjoyable read.
If you want to read something that is fun, sweet and easy on the heart – this one is your book! And ordinary plot of two best friends falling in love add in an extra nerdy and sexy twist in between.

The Scarlett Factor is that you are worth any risk. In fact, I vote we forget your charts and graphs. I have a formula you might be interested in testing with me. You plus me equals happiness.

It has been a while since I’ve read any of Rachel Bailey’s works, The Summer of Jake was one of my favorites and now The Finn Factor has been added to that list.

From the very beginning we meet Scarlett Logan, a college student who has been having trouble in the dating department. She can’t figure out what is wrong with her, if there is something wrong, keeping her dates after going out once. Every single guy that has asked her out has never called back for a second date, and so she decides to make spreadsheets to figure out the problem. And it all comes to her kissing skills. Now she wants her best friend and roomie, Finn Mackenzie, to teach her how to kiss properly so she can get her dates to ask her out again. Little did she know that she would end up falling for Finn soon after.

Finn has always been attracted to his best friend, Scarlett, ever since she moved in he has assumed the role of protective brother, but changed the minute she started bringing guys to his house. Now he tells the guys to never come and soon after that they stop calling Scarlett. He knows that it’s not fair for her, but when she asks him to give her “kissing lessons” he can’t help but to give in. Now after spending more time together, and after a series of kisses he knows that he is falling for her, but he doesn’t do relationships. Finn will have to figure out how to avoid hurting Scarlett before it’s too late.

I actually enjoyed reading the story as a whole; it’s one of those books that just keeps you wanting for more. The author does a good job describing the chemistry between the main characters and how it grows throughout the story. They both have pasts that they want to get away from and by having each other they just seem to grow closer. Troubles does begin that minute Scarlett finds out about what Finn has been doing ever since she moved in to his house, and they’ll have to figure out how that is going to change their chemistry after that. Overall, if you’re looking for a cute romantic story filled with steamy scenes they I would highly recommend reading this book, you will not regret it. :)

ORIGINALLY POSTED AT DJ'S BOOK CORNER

What a fun and flirty read! I didn't really know if this book would keep my interest but it intrigued me enough to give it a try. Glad I did! Besides being hilarious (always a plus) it was cute and very sexy and you can't go wrong with that.

Scarlett is the type of MC I love in romance books. She's not pathetic in any way, only adorably innocent when it comes to Finn and her feelings for him. Both of them are actually. I loved how there was this life-changing friendship between Scarlett and Finn for many years before hooking up. I think it made for a more realistic read because they dated other people (and not out of spite) and actually tried to be friends. They became important to each other on a different level before becoming lovers and that's awesome. It means there is a solid foundation for their relationship and it only makes sense when they take the next step. The only two that were surprised were Scarlett and Finn.

I thought Finn was adorably funny and sweet. I loved his personality and especially how he was with his two younger sisters. Their relationship was really cute and he was a great big brother. I didn't really like the whole Finn's-parents-are-dead aspect of the story. For some reason I always feel like the author is trying to add unnecessary drama or on the flipside, eliminate a complication from the plot if both parents are dead. But then there are Scarlett's parents who are hilariously hippie and then I think that I'm wrong. They were a riot, especially Scarlett's mother. I about died during the dreaded "sex talk". You will know what I'm talking about when you read the book. It was freaking hilarious.

This book wasn't erotic really, but it was pretty sexy. There are a couple of sex scenes, but nothing that should make you blush like a virgin unless you are one. I thought they were well-written, like the entire book, and pretty steamy. Always a good thing.

This was a quick read with all the elements that I like in a NA romance. Relatable characters, humor, passion and friendship. I definitely recommend it and look forward to more books from this author.
