Rate this book
Number one draft pick, Legend James—soon to be back up quarterback for the Dallas Destroyers hates the press. Especially when a scathing article about his love life reveals 22 dates in four years with only 3 repeat dates and calls him a ‘cold hearted snake.’—Who is this reporter and how come she clearly copied Paula Abdul’s song.
Charity Saint only cares about one thing…being a reporter for the new york times—who cares, that her long time high school boyfriend, Paul.—he cheated on her…is that what you wanted to hear? Who cares, she didn’t need a man, she never would again. She’d gotten lost in Paul and she would never do that with a man, again!
When the opportunity to get noticed by them in exchange for studying the arrogant, cocky, too big for his britches, Legend James comes along—she takes it. And though writing about peoples love life’s isn’t where she wants to go in her career—it does get her foot in the door for the job.
Until Legend calls for her head and she loses the job. To add insult to injury, he shows up at the bed and breakfast she helps her mother run and then---to top it all off—when she gets a call that her grandfather’s had a stroke—he has the nerve to offer her a ride to the hospital in Park City.
Legend has no idea why he ends up staying in Park City, and definitely doesn’t understand what insane, masochistic thing makes him want to help Ms. Saint---a saint—is definitely what she is not.
When Legend gives her the chance to write a real story on him, and she takes it—she never imagined sky diving, mountain biking, and sitting with her by her grandfather’s hospital bed would make her do something she told herself she wouldn’t do—like him.
Legend can’t describe why hauling her grandfather’s record player and Beattle albums to the hospital and offering to give her an exclusive interview, something he hates doing—is actually what he wants to do for her.
When the New York Times offer her her job back and Legend gets the announcement that the Destroyers really want him---will both of them decide getting what they want is enough—or will they make one more rookie move?

A note from the author:

Thanks for visiting my Goodreads page.

I wanted to tell something meaningful about myself, but let's start with the important stuff--I love swoon-worthy heroes. The kind of heroes that are strong and would take a bullet for you, but also want to open your door and listen to you pour out your heart.

What else? I grew up moving. If you’ve read my books, you won’t be surprised by this. I have a lot of moving themes through my books centered around characters experiencing pain from someone moving.

It was hard. But, I believe there’s always a seed of good that comes out of everything hard, so I think the best thing that came from it was that I learned to love books.

And I had to learn a lot of mad skills on friend making. It gave me a love of people…good people, compassionate people. Interesting people of all kinds.

What else about me? I am a mother and wife! I have four amazing boys that are like little ninjas running around. I love them so much and I’m so grateful for my amazing husband who doesn’t get intimidated by all the billionaire men in my life.

I have a fierce love of my Savior, Jesus Christ. I am so grateful for Him and for the healing and forgiveness I’ve gotten to experience in my life. This is a theme in many of my books.

I love being an American. I am so proud of the men and women that support and preserve our freedom. This is another theme you will find in my books.

I am so grateful for my fans and for the support and love you all show me! Don’t stop reading!

Hugs-

Taylor

When the up and coming pro football player crosses paths with the rookie reporter sparks are present.

This is a fun romance featuring a rookie football player and a rookie reporter. I am not sure which rookie is referred to in the title. This story is full of misunderstandings, miscommunication, and misinformation. It is a fun escape read.

This was a fun contemporary chic-lit. It was a pretty fast read and had some fun witty characters. I know everyone is saying in their reviews that they love Grandpa(I read several before I actually picked up the book). I was really trying not to say that and say something original but I really can't help myself and not say it...so Grandpa was awesome! There I said it!

I enjoyed the characters and reading further into the story really learning about who they are because at the beginning of the book you have a great setup that makes you have some preconceived notions about who these characters are and that they are probably not going to be characters that you will like. So I enjoyed the way that the author slowly revealed little bits and pieces about the two MCs, Legend and Charity, so that the reader along with the characters realize that those preconceived notions weren't right. I'll let you read it yourself to see what you think about these characters and if your original thoughts changed towards them or not.

Both Legend and Charity have dreams and those dreams haven't come without heartache and lots of time and devotion. Yet Charity has lost hers due to up and coming Legend James, number one draft pick of the season, saying that she lied in an article she wrote about him. She of course loses her new upcoming job at The New York Times. Legend is furious that Charity could write what she wrote about it and so he decides to pay a visit to her. According to this book, Fate was guiding everything. :-)

When Legend confronts her, Charity receives a phone call informing her that her grandfather has just had a stroke and is in the Park City hospital. Unfortunately(or rather fortunately-or fate-unately) Charity doesn't have a working vehicle to get to the hospital. But Legend James does. His driving her to see her grandpa and them spending time together starts to shed light for both of them on who the other person really is.

I won't say much else besides that as far as storyline and plot but I will say that it was a cute read with some sweet scenes within the pages. I loved when they had their "chic talks" and I loved seeing each of them vulnerable but willing to take a risk and share. The nicknames were fun and adorable. I smiled a lot while reading.

I would say this is a clean read. There was talk about something that happened previously in one of their lives(trying to be spoiler free here) but it wasn't graphic and actually written really well into the story. I really liked how it changed and helped the character to grow. Some mild kissing.

I received a free copy from the author after signing up for her newsletter on her website.

Happy Reading!!!

This one bugged me just a bit. I understand her aversion but oh my heck stop being the victim already. Then it had a huge flip. she just woke up one morning and flipped the light on. I'm a woman I am not run by a light switch, men are. I love how he was not afraid of emotion. It was again real feelings and a reality of life. A give take love hate enjoyment.

The Rookie: Book 2 Last Play Romance Series: A Bachelor Billionaire Companion: The Last Play Series is by Taylor Hart. This is a short book and it is so much fun to read. The interaction between the characters is flawless and fun.
Legend James was very angry. Here he was the first pick for the NFL draft and he was faced with a newspaper article that he thought was out of line. The article called him a “cold-hearted snake” and said he dumped his girlfriend and was a serial dater or player. It also said he refused to comment on the article. When he was asked by the press about the article, he stated that “it was false and that he had never been contacted by the author and furthermore, The New York Times who published the article would never get an interview from him.” He then set off to talk to his best buddies and fume. All Legend did was for football. He trained, he ate right, he ran, he studied plays, and thought football. He had decided to put football before everything else so he could make it in the big leagues. Now he was going to get his chance and didn’t need bad press from someone he never talked to. He decided to confront the author.
Charity Saint was really depressed. She was home at Saint’s Bed and Breakfast near Park City, Utah where she was seeing her Mother and her new husband off to Australia for their honeymoon. Charity was to oversee the B&B and check on her Grandpa while her Mother was gone. It had just been the three of them until Bob Franklin came along. She was also depressed because she had lost her chance at a job at The New York Times because Legend James called her a fraud and a liar on the news. Although she had done all her research well and had all her facts correct, he objected to her take on them. He had also said she lied about contacting him for a comment. She definitely had. Now he ruined her chance in New York and maybe at other newspapers. To top it off, her long-time boyfriend broke up and left her for Africa. Could things get worse? Oh, yes! Legend James turned up on her doorstep!

Legend James, recent University of Utah graduate, and the #1 draft pick doesn't like the press, and he really doesn't like the article Charity Saint has written about his love life calling him "the cold-hearted snake of draft picks". He wants his private life to be private and not fodder for the tabloids.

Charity Saint wants to be a reporter for the NY Times, and she's willing to pay her dues by writing fluff pieces if it will get her there. Unfortunately, after writing about Legend James' love life the NY Times wants her to print a retraction and they rescind their job offer.

While Legend confronts Charity about the article, her day gets even worse when she receives a phone call that her grandpa has had a stroke. While she tries to figure out a way to get to the hospital in Park City Legend suddenly offers to drive her there. The rest of the story takes place while Charity waits for her grandpa to wake up. She and Legend spend a lot time together because, surprisingly, he's agreed to let her write an exclusive on him.

This is the second book in the Last Play series. It's a fun, fast read. The main characters are likeable and as the story progresses you find out about past hurts, and how it affected them. Legend and Charity find out that the first impressions they had of each other weren't correct.

There are a lot of fun moments in this story, especially when they have their "chic talks", and I loved the parts about playing The Beatles records. I was about 6 yrs old when The Beatles first appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show and I remember all the screaming girls in the audience. Growing up in the 70's we had a lot of The Beatles 8-track tapes to listen to in the van.

Having read six offerings by Taylor Hart I have become a fan. Unfortunately, proofreading deficiencies in this offering proved to be a bit of a distraction as were a few obvious illogical actions by the protagonists, such as Legend’s attempt to dissuade a store clerk of his true identity as he handed over his credit card. The scene where Charity and Legend jump from an airplane was a major deviation from reality, significantly lacking in authentic detail, and totally unrealistic. The safety precautions involved in sky diving do not allow a novice like Charity to simply show up and make a jump, much less actually try taking a selfie with Legend during the jump. It was a bit of a disappointment to me that the attempt to create conflict between Charity and Legend by using each other’s exes was a bit of romance boilerplate. These deficiencies robbed Ms. Hart of what would otherwise have been a five star review from me. I was well pleased with depth of character and the believability of the protagonists and I love the clean romance format. I would consider this an enjoyable read, even with the distractions mentioned above.

This is the 2nd in this stand-alone series. Legend James is about to live the dream. He’s only a week or so away from signing with a pro-football league and make millions. But he’s upset by a New York Times post that depicts him as a cold-hearted snake in his personal life. Determined to ruin the vindictive reporter, he threatens the newspaper with slander and determines to find Charity Saint and give her a piece of his mind. Little does he know that he’s ruined her life already. Sparks fly from their tumultuous first meeting, but as they cut through misunderstanding and judgments, they discover they might be more right for each other than they had ever imagined. This was a fun, quick read that made me smile. ***I received a free copy of this book from the author for signing up for her newsletter.

Not one of my favourites from this series, but not bad either. Fairly easy read. Seriously needs a better proof read tho, there's some obvious mistakes.

Another sweet and cute romance by Taylor Hart. I'm totally hooked on these Last Play series books and can't wait to read them all!

Legend is the number one draft pick straight out of college. He has a haunted past which keeps him from getting too involved with women. Charity is a journalist looking for a break who clashes with Legend when she writes an article that upsets him. She also has so baggage from the past, too.

Their conversations are funny, heartfelt, and down-to-earth. Yes, they fall in love over a period of one week but they truly do become friends in the midst of all that crackling attraction. Legend is lovely - focused, charming, compassionate, generous....though he is a little impulsive and hot-headed since he's young. Charity is stubborn but kind, funny, spunky, and quite lovable. Their romance is sweet. There are also a few mentions of Roman and Katie from the first book, which made my heart happy.

I was given this book from Instafreebie and was not required to give a favorable review. All my comments and opinions are solely my own.

My review today is on the romance, The Rookie. This is book two in the series Last Play. I really enjoyed this story. It's well-written, delightful, and heartwarming. I know you are going to really like this one.

Legend James just graduated from college and in two weeks is Draft Day. He is to be first draft choice of the Dallas Destroyers. He is harassed by reporters about an article about him and his love life. Legend is furious and says the reporter lied. He finds out the address of the woman who wrote the article and goes after her but she isn't anything like he imagined.

Charity Saint has lost her job over some stupid jock. He called her a liar when she had tried to get an interview and he refused. She goes home to her mother's Bed and Breakfast to take over while she is away on her honeymoon. Legend shows up at her place and then her world falls apart.

A delightful journey as these two dance around each other and their attraction. God has a plan for these two a plan for hope and a future. God has a plan for you too, a plan for peace and not for destruction.

The story is about a reporter and the NFL #1 draft pick… Lots of banter between this unlikely couple leads to a happy conclusion. The book is very well written and the storyline contains lots of humor, but part of it includes a fortune telling witch (?) which is totally unnecessary. Even so, it’s a fast, easy read and just like all of the Hart novels, it’s certainly RECOMMENDED.

This was a lovely story with a realistic plot. The characters which led this story and held together everything which made up this novel were fantastic at what they set out to accomplish. If you would like to place yourself into a book, to become that character, then this is the novel for you.

Proficient author Taylor Hart continues to impress me with her character driven romances. Legend and Charity not only have great chemistry but their dialogue is captivating and a little quirky, which defines the overall storyline.

This is one I will definitely read again. Breathe, read, enjoy❣️

Excellent story!

Legend is furious over an article about himself that appeared in The New York Times. He plans to confront the reporter, Charity, about what she wrote. Low and behold, she is not what he was expecting. Now the story gets very good.

Charity wants to work for the New York Times so badly that she writes an article about Legend, a football player. The only problem is she wrote her article after only talking to other people and neglected to interview the player. This results in him calling her out on it and her losing her chance. Legend comes to her house and confronts her. Before he leaves, she receives a phone call that her grandfather is in the hospital. Her mother is out of town on her honeymoon so Charity needs to go to the hospital. When Legend sees that she doesn't have a drive able car, he volunteers to take her to the hospital. They start spending time together and begin seeing each other in a different light. This is a clean story that I enjoyed reading. There are some interesting characters including the grandfather.

This was a short and sweet romance. The tone of this story was definitely younger than the first book of this series, since the MCs are just out of college, and the conflicts are more of the coming of age variety. While there wasn't really anything new in this book, I enjoyed it and look forward to reading the rest of this series.

What I enjoyed:
1) The alternating dual povs, told in the third person. I liked hearing from both the MCs, as opposed to only the H or the h. The writing was very engaging and the author managed to fit a well rounded story into less than two hundred pages of this book.
2) Even though the MCs were barely out of college, they were pretty mature and there wasn't too much drama or angst. Both of them were sincere, honest, and passionate people, and I enjoyed that.
3) This book was clean. I don't even think there was any swearing in it, and definitely no sex. I definitely felt the chemistry between the two without the smexy times and I like that!
4) The character development was great for such a short story. I liked that both MCs had misconceptions of each other and both of them stuck around long enough to get to know the real person.
5) The ending. It was sweet, if not sappy and cliche.

What I didn't like:
1) How easy it was for the H to decide he wanted to change his emotionally closed off ways. I'm glad that part of the story wasn't dragged on forever, but it was still very sudden.
2) How the MCs' exes end up showing up at just the wrong moment.
3) This is the second book I've read by this author and it proved to be a bit formulaic. I still liked it, but wish that it was a little less predictable. Emotionally closed off football star (either rising or established), feisty redhead h who's educated and doesn't mind telling the H what's what, some kissing at the wrong times and sometimes with the wrong people, swallowing some pride, .
