Spoilers!

LONG rant, so long story short- the heroine is pure idiotic trash and the story is basically her putting herself in bad situations ONLY to please ONE guy (not even the hero) she's been in a relationship with for just a month. Her decisions are idiotic and manipulative at times, and the hero deserves someone WAY better than that ass-kisser🙄

Ugh. I hated this book. Everytime I try to "broaden my horizons", I read something like this that makes me regret that decision🤦 but basically, I f'ing hated the heroine.

She gets into a relationship with this dude, who AFTER they've been together for a month, has her walk in on him filming his two friends have s*x, on his own bed, with no remorse. The bf admits he gets off on watching girls he's with having s*x with other guys and filming it, and he wants the heroine to do that so her walking in on it was the "best" way to get her acquainted with that lifestyle apparently. So the heroine reluctantly does it to try it out for him, she gets off on it for awhile, mainly because she likes the bf who watches it and gets off on it. The rule is though, is that they only be with other people when they're both in the room at the same time.

So the first time she has s*x with the other guy, is the night the bf says he loves her for the first time- romantic, right? So both these couples (the guy and the girl she walked in on are a couple, same guy she has sex with while the hero watches), have s*x together, and with other people. Heroine pushes her bf and the other girl to have s*x together in front of her so she can experience it and the bf and the girl have already had s*x together so it's nothing new. Heroine gets jealous because she sees how intimate they are towards each other. Now, going into this, I was prepared for the sharing and swinger type of lifestyle, what I wasn't prepared for though, was how idiotic and pretty manipulative the heroine became.

So the bf goes on "work" trips more and more with the other swinger couple, and doesn't invite the heroine at all- red flag. Then he gets disappointed and a bit angry when the heroine doesn't feel like having s*x with them, or going on a trip just to do that- another red flag. Bf starts to act different with her and she highly suspects he's cheating on her with the swinger couple girl (he is). She starts talking to another guy (hero) through a website for hook-ups, pretty much falls in love with him and tries to get him to have s*x with her in front of the boyfriend, but he doesn't want to because he doesn't want to be filmed. So the heroine essentially victimizes herself nonstop, and makes the hero feel guilty that he doesn't want to have s*x with her and be filmed. She freaks out that the boyfriend is suspicious all the time, and she constantly makes some over dramatic statement about how she needs to choose who to be with, even though shes literally with the boyfriend for no reason, and doesn't even enjoy him or what he does at this point, and she also treats the actual hero like crap.

The hero also doesn't want to be the "other guy" either but the heroine is pretty much making him be in that situation by sleeping with him while the boyfriend is out of town. Then she tells him the bf knows and manipulates the hero into having s*x in front of him. So basically almost everything the bf did to her, she did to the hero, and STILL has the gall to make herself seem like she was "trapped" in that situation and can't easily walk out or something. She has s*x with the boyfriend literally right after the hero too- great gal👍 and I just feel bad that THAT is the girl the hero is gonna end up with. She's the epitome of stupidity. She makes it seem like she never meant any harm and kept telling the hero that, and yet, she really did, otherwise she would have NEVER put the hero in that situation if she truly loved him.

So anyways, the heroine finally decides to leave the boyfriend when one of the guys the bf sets up for her to have s*x with, r*pes and hurts her and the hero just watches. She leaves, finds out the hero had started talking to her at first because the bf had s*x with his (underaged?) Sister without telling her he was taping it. Heroine makes the hero out to be such a bad guy as if the hero doing that to the heroine is worse than the bf illegally taping his sister🙄

She leaves him for a few weeks, then they eventually get back together and start dating, and have a baby a year later, and that's it. Besides the the heroine treating the hero like crap, what really bugged me, is how over dramatic she is about EVERYTHING. She put herself into that situation, she kept pushing and asking for more, and then when she eventually got sick of it and the relationship she was in was hardly a relationship, she made it seem like she was literally trapped in the relationship and cant be with this great guy (the hero), that she loves, for no reason other than she's already in a relationship even though they're cheating on each other. She keeps saying how she needs to "choose" but basically chooses the bf over the hero everytime with her actions, and would still be with him if the whole rape thing didn't happen, and he would still be treating her like crap, and she would be treating the hero like crap. Ugh. Zero sympathy for her. She's gross.

Wow! So different than what I’ve ever read from Shey Stahl. But, in a good way! I had no idea exactly what I was getting into by purchasing this book. No way could I put it down! This was one f**cked up ride. And, Logan really has her hands full. I don’t even think she has any idea to what extreme this could and would affect her life. Two different men. Josh and Brevin. A different lifestyle. Beyond HOT!! Whew!! And, who will ultimately claim her heart??

There’s not much more that I can say about this book without giving away spoilers other than I saw the author in a totally different light with her writing this book. Absolutely kept me on my game by intriguing me from start to finish. Couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. It’s definitely an emotionally charged ride that had me guessing as to what the final outcome would be. HOT DAMN!!

Whoa!

This book is definitely NOT what I was expecting but I loved it! The story is so far removed from what we normally get from Shey. There were was a taboo addressed in this book that I believe was handled really well. I'd love to see Jeb get his own story down the road. I can hardly believe I'm saying this but I'd also like to see Josh in a book where he gets a chance to redeem himself. Well done. I highly recommend it!

Wow not at all what I expected.

This book was completely unexpected but I couldn't put it down even when I was annoyed at the main characters. I guess I was expecting Logan to knock Josh out when he fessed up to his crazy lifestyle but she just decided why not try his way to still be with him. Well that was the first of many of my WTF moments with her character lol. I honestly was like really is she for real at wanting to be with him like that, a open relationship is just crazy but hey to each their own. I couldn't believe what he actually had her do much less what she thought when she went along with all his odd demands for her. I felt like she just became complacent regarding her relationship with Josh. It was like she had to do it to keep him with her which was very annoying from someone who can't understand her reasoning there. I knew she didn't want his lifestyle but was to meek to say it to him. I was kinda of confused by Brevin and their relationship at first but as the story goes she find how and why they kinda had around about way of being each others lives. All I can say is I wished she would have knocked Josh out at the end. He was a complete freak and jerk with his actions regarding her one time discretion with Brevin. He was a huge hypocrite in that area and wow she was way to kind to him. I was glad she found someone to make her finally see she wasn't in a good relationship and got her happy ending. I would say if you read this book go in with an open mind regarding the nature of Logan and Josh's relationship. This is not what I was expecting but it wasn't completely off either. So I say read it if you wanna see how someone gets pulled into a lifestyle they wouldn't have thought of only trying to please another and how far they were willing to go when they thought it was love driving the actions. Be prepared to be frustrated many times but in a it's a thought provoking book I will that to the author.

Being a guest reviewer has its perks; one being that I am often introduced to authors that I might not have read otherwise. Awakened is my first Shey Stahl novel. As the blurb suggests, Logan Gentry is a cupcake bakery owner and entrepreneur who’s never really struck gold in the dating world. When she plans on renovations to her shop, the construction company owner, Josh Daniel, makes quite the impression on her. He’s flirty and forward and very, very sexy. They embark on a whirlwind romance, and within a month, she’s moving into his beautiful lake house. Logan soon learns that Josh has particular sexual interests that she has no experience with. At first she’s shocked. Soon, however, curiosity and intrigue win over and she falls down the rabbit hole into a world she could only have imagined. Whether she can come to terms with what this means for her relationship with Josh long term remains to be seen. Complicating the relationship is the entry of Brevin, Josh’s construction employee. Logan and Brevin have instant chemistry, and she’s drawn to him more than she’s comfortable with. How can she have these feelings when Josh seems so right? Or wrong…

Awakened grabbed me from the beginning. Logan is no blushing innocent, but she’s not thoroughly experienced either. She is driven to succeed and I didn’t get the impression she was desperate for a relationship. Josh is that attractive combo of rugged, but intelligent. He gave off that seasoned, professional impression when it came to flirting, but I really felt that he saw in Logan something different, something he could hold on to. As I mentioned in the blurb, Josh has a particular kink. I kind of guessed it from the set ups prior to its reveal, but it’s not a played-out scenario. Anyone who assumes there must be a red room will be disappointed. His kink is still taboo in a relationship without pre-established boundaries and discussion, however. You’ll have to find it out for yourself. The sex scenes that ensue are extremely hot with more than a touch of dirty and forbidden. A few took my breath away. I don’t think that every reader, however, will be comfortable with how the book progresses. If you find books with cheating as a theme to be a deal-breaker, don’t come here. The characters are confused, to say the least. We all have different tolerance levels for asshole-ish behavior and Josh waiting so late to reveal his kink (which happened to be a deal breaker for him if she didn’t agree), was intolerable for me. It was also more than a little coercive. You will see from my reading list that I very much enjoy dubious consent themes, but I find them a bit disturbing in books where I expect a romance and HEA in the traditional sense. Perhaps I went in with the wrong expectations. Fairly deep into the book, we still don’t know where the main couple’s relationship is headed, who Logan will end up with. How that all comes about, the inciting event to blow everything out of the water, is a shocker. I never expected the author to go there, and it even seemed out of character for me. That the responsible characters weren’t punished in any meaningful sense was even more disturbing. Perhaps the author was trying to show a realistic side to playing with fire and this is definitely a tale of warning. In that, it succeeds. I do wish it hadn’t ended so abruptly and that we got more of a sense of why the HEA works for the two characters. Awakened is definitely one of the more unique erotic romances I’ve read. It certainly isn’t boring or cliché. If you’re up for one that keeps you guessing and has some smoking hot, taboo sex, this one may be for you.

W T F did I just read??? I seriously try not to not finish a book. But this one was very tempting to want to set it on fire. I couldn't even give this piece of work a star rating. It looks like I'm once again in the minority. I can't, for the life of me, understand how women gave this 4-5 stars. Do people actually like being degraded, humiliated & treated like just a random hole for anyone?

***SPOILERS***
Logan is a freakin' moron! There is one thing to be kinky & wanna try some new things. But another is to turn into a glorified whore just to please your man. Ewwww. This book had my skin crawling (not in a good way) for the majority of it. So many awkward moments that had me cringing & feeling so uncomfortable. So because a guy is hot & has a good body you're willing to do things that you aren't even sure about? You're that spineless? Ugh ew. Just no! And even when she started to change her mind about wanting to do this stuff, she still gave in even though she didn't want to.

Josh is fucked in the head. He's got some serious psychological issues. He pretty much trapped her by not being open & honest with her from the beginning. At least then she'd have an easier choice if she wanted to pursue a relationship with him. But no, he decides to let her catch him after she's moved in & they've gotten serious. He's a fucking douche. And then to say if she doesn't do what he likes they can't be in a relationship?! Wouldn't that have been something important to bring up in the beginning? And the fact that Logan gives in & goes along with it is sick.

What Josh allowed to happen to her as a form of punishment is so beyond fucked up that it doesn't even register on the radar of fuckery. He's a disgusting, despicable excuse for a human being. I had to skim so much of that part because I was so disgusted & freaked out. There are no words or actions that can ever undo what he did. Just, no! Fuck no! Prime example of how dumb Logan is is the fact that she didn't have Josh or Sutton's sick asses arrested. Why?!

How are women finding this kind of material to be 4-5 stars worthy? So because they men are hot & sexy it's ok to do that kind of crap?! Ugh! Hell no!

This book pissed me off!!

The heroine, Logan, allowed herself to be used and abused all for the sake of love. She believes she and Josh are in love. Cool. Too bad I didn't believe it. I saw absolutely no love. Just sex. Was the sex so good that it made her into a fool? Do people like this really exist? Dude said I love you ONCE. And it seemed like an afterthought. Almost out of pity. But in the end, she put herself in that situation. When he gave his ultimatum, I would have said 'see ya!' Evidently, Logan lacked common sense. The dumb behaviour is even rationalized to try to convince the reader that this ish is ok. Ummmmm.... It's not.

The only characters I was cool with were Brevin (like that name), Jeb, and the chick that works in Logan's cupcake shop. The end.

Seriously 4.5 stars !!! I am really Proud of Shey For getting out of her comfort zone and writing Awakened. The story line completely drew me in immediately, I'm not going to go into detail because I think that readers should go in completely blind. However I must say I absolutely adored Brekin.

Great Story

Okay, most of this is steamy… I loved the conflict but knew the whole time I wouldn’t be able to live that kind of lifestyle.

I wish they would have turned the bad guy into the police… rape of main character… and a minor while filming needs to be taken care of… the revenge would have made me like this book more.

Standalone with a HEA.

“I can tell you a story about love but in reality, will you believe me if you don’t experience it for yourself?” This direct quote from the book is misleading for most of the book you will experience the opposite of love.

This book felt as though the sex scenes were written first and the character dialogue second. Many continuity errors can be overlooked because you understand the gist of the sentences.

Overall I enjoyed the book. I wish it had been more thoroughly edited prior to release.

Ummm...I went into this book blind. I have been a long time fan of Shey Stahl. I absolutely LOVED her Racing on the Edge series...it's one of a few series that I recommend...all the time.

So WOW! This book is so different from what I was expecting from Ms. Stahl.

We meet this sweet cupcake making, Logan. She has been "off the market" for quite a while. Then along comes Josh. The construction owner who's an absolute hottie that catches her eye...and luckily for her, he is interested too. They begin dating and have what seems like the perfect relationship. Great friends, good times, amazing sex...then she find out what makes Josh tick...

I was totally blown away with what that secret was, and I don't want to spoil it for anyone. She is willing to see what it's all about, but is worried about losing herself. I was sad to see her go so quickly into this life with Josh, but that's what made this story.

The sex scenes were nothing like I have read in a really long time. WOW, Shey Stahl has really perfected the sex scene. super hot, panty melting, holy moly...wowness!

I was hoping for a little more depth to the characters, I would have liked to see a few 'situations' handled differently, I think Ms. Stahl could have written one particular situation more thoroughly. but overall enjoyed the book.

Shey Stahl has always been a favorite author of mine and will continue to be!

If you are looking for a sexy hot book, grab this!

“We Are Only Blind As We Want To Be.” - Maya Angelou

Logan Gentry is 23 years old with her own bakery and some life experience. She is fun and not afraid to express herself. However, her family does not approve of her choices, leaving her questioning herself. With the success she has with her Cupcake shop she decides she needs to expand.

Enter Josh Daniel, owner of the construction company and his employees. Now here comes the difficult part of having no spoilers. One would expect a relationship to develop, which it does, however, this is where we get on the rollercoaster. This is where we begin to see through Logan's eyes what is outside of her world. As she discovers things about herself, she learns that she is in control of her wants, desires and most importantly, her choices. And hang on to your seats because it is really an Awakening.

This book is a complete 180 from what Shey has written before and I loved it. It is so different. Shey dives into the world of what some people may believe as taboo and is handled very well. I applaud her for taking this step.

Warning: This book is recommended for readers over the age of 18 due to strong language and explicit sexual content including multiple partners, F/F and rape.

Overall:
Rating: 4
Plot: Intriguing
Pace: steady

I have been a huge Shey fan since I read Happy Hour, and I have read every book since that she has written. This book was a great read. Her characters in my opinion are always well built, and I feel like I am a voyeur in their story with the story lines that are written. I had a hard time putting down this book wondering what is going to happen next. I had a love / hate relationship with some characters but I guess they say women are always attracted to the bad boys. I feel like Shey's characters are more realistic than the typical bad boy billionaires that are written about too often, and that it what I love about them! Thanks for the ARC Shey!

Omg Shey has done it again. I went into this book without a clue what it would be about and I loved every page well not every page you know the scene in talking about. I didn't like that very much but the book was completely different than anything I've read from Shey but equally amazing to all her books. I really liked Josh and I'm hoping for a book of redemption for him. Please Shey?? And also a book on Jeb he was such a good guy he deserves a happy ending. I loved Logan and Brevin too. Such an amazing book please make this a series. Thanks again Shey for another amazing book.

I liked, not loved this book. Not because of the subject matter, but because there were times I wanted to smack the female character, Logan. She conformed to the desires and needs of her new boyfriend, without so much as even questioning WHY!!! His explanation of why I did NOT buy. He was very controlling, she had to do things his way, but he didn't apply to the same rules. I don't want to give too much away, but what he let happen to her, NO man, or human being would allow that!! I was happy there was a HEA or I would have thrown my Kindle across the room into the wall!!!

What can I say about Awakened but WOW! Picked up this book and didn't put it down until I was done. I am a big fan of Sheys books and this was very different for her, but so her at the same time. It was like her evil twin, or not so evil twin or maybe her naughty twin :} Fell in love with some characters and wanted to murder others, just couldn't put it down what a great read. Shey totally stepped out of the box with this one. Thanks Shey, you nailed it. Awesome I loved it!

RRRR started out good...very interesting...intense sex...then boom it fell for me. There is a scene in this book that was awful and that's not why it was ruined for me it was what happened after that killed it for me. There should have been more retribution for that scene and it really angered me that there was not.... like it was her fault or something...just awful.
