It doesn't disappoint

This is book 6. I'm just as happy with this book as I was with book 1.

Morgan is settling into his new role as sheriff and is trying to set a positive example. With the help of his family and close-knit friends, they try to bring peace and a sense of normalcy to their community. But, a new group of marauders has arrived and is stirring up trouble. Not only that, but a nemesis long since thought vanquished has returned for revenge.

American’s sixth novel in The Survivalist, Enforcing Home, continues the story of Morgan, Sarge, and the clan that has settled into Morgan’s neighborhood. Every day brings new challenges and danger. Nothing can be taken for granted. Life is hard and not everyone is willing to do what it takes to survive. Instead, they would rather take from others.

I’m embarrassed to say that somehow, I skipped from book 5 straight to book 8 without even realizing it. To me that says that A. American is a phenomenal writer.

5 out of 5 stars.

Love this series

One of my faves when it began!
Highly recommend the first few. Then something happened. It was like the author developed a "he-man" complex & started looking down on women & the constant 3 stooges crap is just getting so old.
What happened 2 intelligent conversation? To women taking roles more than hanging out cooking & as an occasional piece of a__ that he seems surprised 2 actually get each time. And no other couples really have any story lines or intelligent or romantic conversation either. The women could do so much more and provide so much more support and also ideas. They can also defend the place more. Seems like his & Danny's wives r just floating n the background somewhere. They never go 2 town or anywhere! They never visit the neighbors! Nothing! They r made 2 look boring and lazy & Mel seems to lay around on the couch and smarts off as her role or is cooking.
Love the style of writing for the most part just wish the women had more of an active role n the book. They r never featured alone hanging out or doing much and r made to look like they just hang out at home and cook three meals a day.
I'm thinking maybe the author doesn't know how to write a woman or maybe he is a little macho and thinks of his wife as his "old lady" & other women as "chicks".
There isn't much interesting interaction between the men and their women either that I c, just the "Same old, same old".
I thought when the younger women started training that might change but they all seemed completely untrained & ignorant about the marketplace bomb, even though I'm pretty sure there was a warning they may try to do that. Also if someone puts a bag down and runs off, most everyone knows not to approach it & 2 evacuate and contact someone who knows what they r do I got check it out. So it just made no sense to me how that scene went down like these young ladies r naive & untrained & haven't been through all the stuff they have n the series which should have toughened them all up by now & certainly made them suspicious.
And some of the men jokes and hassling one another is getting asinine & boring & just too much.
Not necessary & sometimes just downright rude & disgusting.
So is the torture to get people to talk. Just out of hand and disgusting & more like what the ignorant u educated punks would do, not good upright men who know right from wrong and know better than taking it as far as it has been going.
I don't remember him starting out this way.
He either changed or is someone else writing it?
But it's starting to really make the books boring as heck to me.
Get back to the way u used to write. Make the good men upright, decent and intelligent as well as the women. Develop the characters. Show interaction besides mucking around stupidly or torturing someone or other just plain disgusting behavior.
Develop some additional storylines to the main plot.
Give the women more time and power and strength.
Show some relationships n action n a healthy respectful dignified manner. And humor can b intelligent not "3 stoogie" every time.
Ok I don't usually review but I guess I did today.

I started this sixth book in the series and although calmer than prior books, I found it hard to put down. My rating 4.25.

Morgan is now sheriff of his community and the local town. He isn’t thrilled but agreed to accept the responsibilities with several of his friends as deputies. His own community is experiencing a time of rebuilding and peace but that doesn’t last. There are many who are hungry and unrest is spreading especially as bullies try to take from others by force. These are local problems, but not the worst Morgan has to deal with. Stragglers with children who are coughing badly pass outside the neighborhood gates. Some of the community children do not realize there may be danger playing with these sickly waifs.

Morgan’s friends learn that the corrupt DFS forces never made it to the army base where they were being sent. Instead they escaped and are building forces with plans to eliminate Morgan, Sarge and the rest of the ‘resisters’. A stranger wander in and, although it is not clear if he can be trusted, he slowly becomes part of the group.

Fortunately, Sarge and Morgan have friends in high places. They are able to get the supplies for a field hospital flown in as well as getting some heavy power equipment that will be useful as the skirmishes with the DFS scoundrels intensify.

I was glad to be back with the familiar characters and I was pulled right into the story. The author addresses issues relating to the society reorganization as well as dangers of disease and lawlessness. This episode moves forward with daily concerns and not all the action is in fighting… there is enough of that too to keep things interesting. There are moments of humor and almost happiness as the community and nearby town look to reestablish a firm footing. But Morgan becomes more of a target especially for the oncoming threat of a major attack by the DFS forces.

There was a bit more male crudeness and some rather brutal torture in this book. There was also some repetition but it didn't have a noticeable impact on my enjoyment. I found this engaging and I look forward to more action in this series.

Audio Notes: Duke Fontaine has certainly become the voice of these characters for me. His clear narration enhances the engagement in the stories and makes this a fast listen.

I really enjoy this series. I'd describe this book as an In Between. it's setting up Morgan as the local Sheriff. He has some minor issues to deal with and does some organizing. DHS links up with some local gang and causes minor troubles. We're being prepped for a confrontation between Morgan and DHS. I'm looking forward to reading the next book.

I read books 6 & 7 of the Going Home series, "Enforcing Home" and "Avenging Home". The Feds are back and are playing dirtier than ever and A. American does what so many writers are afraid to do: he lets "the good guys" off their leash to deal with a threat in a not nice way that might cause some to question how good the good guys really are. The aftermath of behaving that way is also dealt with since that is a real thing too.

The humor that is sprinkled throughout the series stays strong and, again, I think it's one of the author's strengths: not taking himself too seriously, inserting humor into dark or tough situations (which is a real thing but one that often gets left out of stories that portray those situations), and getting the humor "right". I've heard the kinds of jokes and one-liners that are in the books on job sites, in bars, and other places where real people hang out and to me they ring true. Another couple entertaining reads.

Another great read in "The Survivalist" series. This is book six and I've only been disappointed in one of the six so far. This book IS NOT the one.

I like how this group works together to solve problems. The humorous banter between those in the group is funny. Love the humor. There is some lull time in the book, but the action more than makes up for it. Love the different characters. You really grow to like them and hope nothing drastic happens to them. Jaime (one of the military personnel in the group) needs more print time. I liked the ways she interacts with her group in past books.

Just a couple of complaints though. There is no timeline indication from when this apocalyptic situation began and the current events. It would have been nice know how long their troubles had been going on. Also, it would be nice if we could get a better grasp of what actually happened to cause this situation.

Despite my complaints, I look forward to the next book in the series.

This survivalist series was a bit annoying as it based most of conspiratorial plot on the government getting people dependant on the state. After people needed welfare, food stamps, assistance in any form they were somehow not as worthy to freedom and would blindly comply with the government. This political philosophy is wrong in my eyes, but there are some that believe this. This is just a story and I enjoy the DHS jokes. The book has spelling errors and is not a mainstream published book. I like that about it and the story is good. The is good for me because it follows a few people and their adventures while imparting some prepping knowledge. The book series is now becoming more engaging for me as the basic skills for survival and specialized knowledge used to thrive in a cam setting are used. This book does not have a lot of surprises but it is an easy and good read.

Book #1 is mainly about him getting home. Book #2 is mainly about them surviving their neighborhood. Book #3 is mainly about them surviving in the woods. Book #4 is mainly about them surviving the DHS camp nearby. Book #5 is mainly about surviving a huge forest fire (back in his old neighborhood).

This one is about old enemies returning to cause more trouble, him becoming the Sheriff, trying to help keep the town in one piece, and about new enemies appearing.

This series just keeps getting better. Morgan needs help to keep his little section of Florida safe, and he has it in Thad, Danny, and the Army. He’s appointed Sheriff, and even though he doesn’t ask for, or want, the position, he’s determined to do it to the best of his ability. Danger is ever present, but the friends are up to the task of helping him stand his ground.

Great read!

This is number 6 in the series, total of 9. I started the series 10 days ago, need I say more? I stay up till 2 or 3 in the morning, can’t put them down. The author is very helpful with brand names of things, in case you need a item for your stash. This series is a must read be it for enjoyment or the knowledge A. American shares with the reader.

Good story but serious editing issues

While I liked the story, this book could have used a better editor. There were a lot of mixing up of names and grammatical errors. At one point instead of the name Jamie they stated the name Charlie and it took a bit to figure out who they were actually talking about.

Love his writing!

This is probably one of the best survivalist series that I've ever read. It's extremely scary because of the very real, not just possibilities but probability. Freaky.

So I'm WAY into this series and enjoying them, however, Just like the first three, I loved them for the general concept and education I received. The writing of the story was good too, but the dialogue is awful. There were a lot of typos.

Of all the survivalist, EMP, SHTF series I have read so far, this is the best. Saying that, I have not really delved into this genre too far. The story is well thought through, moves at a quick enough pace, and is believable. Not really a stand alone novel, and must be read in order.

The series continues to offer plenty of twists and turns.

Morgan and his community are constantly targeted for their success. Things are starting to slowly recover however, many challenges continue to surface.

The group is hit by a lose of one of their own. And another near loss.
