I moved away to my Nan’s house after my parents happily kicked me out.
Why, you ask? Because I ruined my future, so they say.
If you ask me, I was a naive seventeen year-old girl who chose to sleep with the boy she had loved from afar for years, only for him to want nothing to do with me in return.
So here I am, back at the one place I had hoped to never return, where I’ll attend court as a witness.
Now I have to face him...Mason.
There’s no other way around it.
He can’t know my secret...but he will.
When I returned, I expected him to have moved on with at least a million and one other girls, to have forgotten the naive school girl with a crush that followed him around like a lost puppy, but I was wrong.
What I got when I arrived was five brothers, a Granddad, a pushy Grandma, and a best friend who would stop at nothing to make me stay.
But only one of them has the power to make me stay...Mason.
After everything, can I truly trust him again or will he continue to break my heart?
If you mess with one Carter brother, you mess with them all
Malik (Carter Brother series #1) should be read before reading Mason.
2.5 "How did all these turmoiled things get in this book" stars
Jeeez, this was smth that I really wished for not to end like it ended...
Some parts were unbelieveable, some of them that I couldn't graps, then there were explanations that didn't quite sit right with me and I was like wait, what?!
then there were parts that I actually liked and that's why this book is not being battered to death...LOL
I just wished there was less of the mess...there was too much of different fragments that didn't make the cohesive unity when mashed together...pitty, it could have been more enjoyable and satisfying if it was more compact in one genre with added segments BUT here I had a feeling it was a scrappy bunch of mixed genres - drama, thriller, action, romance - that were undeveloped and therefore the story turned out to be one heavy mess!
I saw this and I was like OMG it's already out! How am I supposed to continue living after that cliffhanger! I can't! OMG I can't!!!
I fell in love with Mason in Malik and I cannot wait to read this one! I loved Denny but there was this suspense going on around her and throughout Malik I was like:
I cannot wait to get my hands on this! I am obsessed with this series! Thank you Ms Gray for these handsome and hot guys!
This dragged! I felt every single one of these 261 pages. There was not a drop of chemistry between Denny and Mason. TBH, I’m still looking for it. All we dealt with was Mason apologizing and Denny’s insecurities. The best part of this was seeing the brothers and Harlow again. The next book is about Myles and I pray that we get a better book.
Denny Smith had given herself to Mason Carter, believing they were building something. It had the reverse effect though when Mason realized she had been a virgin. Since that time, Mason has done his best to flaunt the countless women he was with in front of Denny, turning what was once love to disdain.
After getting kicked out of her house for being pregnant, Denny returns to testify in Harlow's trial. Denny knows Mason is aware she is pregnant with his baby and she doesn't plan keeping him out of the babies life but she knows she can't get close to Mason again.
Mason though did what he did because he felt he was not good enough for Denny. Now he has a second chance to prove he is worth it. Denny though doesn't trust him and now Mason has a tough road ahead of him while trying to show they will be a wonderful family.
This was the second book in the Carter Brothers series. Takes off shortly after the ending of the first book. Mason I was not sure I would soften towards him since he had been such a jerk in book one, but he redeems himself. I liked Denny, she had a past I was not expecting and had several twists I did not see coming. Max continues to be a treat, can't wait for his book.
h forgives the H too easliy considering that he flaunted ow in front of her in the previous book and dumped her the morning after they had sex just because he found out she was a virgin! I mean seriously.
His reasoning and apology was not good enough. And the h was really naive and she was pregnant from that one time and she was lonely so I can just imagine her dilemma and emotional stress.
But the drama involving the court hearing and the criminal’s psycho older brother, who kidnapped the h and almost killed her took up a good percentage of the novel.
Some parts of the story were unbelievable but it was interesting and felt good to finally see bully and rape victims get some form of justice.
An okay read, not exactly memorable because I think the angst and grovel that needed to be there between the H and h was just not enough.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
as I'm.such good friends with this author I've had before been realised and omg what a story it broke my heart made me swoon and cry it was brilliant mason is hot and has such a lovely side to him while u wudnt expect from.when u look at him same as all his brothers but the way he feels for denny is awwww so sweet after malik the first book I didn't like mason the way he treated denny but defo changed my mind now :-D the story line had me gripped throughout as I didn't no what was gonna happen as always it has opened up for anuva fantastic book and I can't wait but I'm desperately waiting for maxs book as he has had me in stitches throughout this book :-D happy ending for a lovable couple :-D
I really liked this one, and I like how Mason was protected it was cute. After the first one he deserved to grovel but i'm happy they get their happy ending. Can't wait for the next brother.
When we got offered the chance to review Malik, book one in this series, I was unsure of how it would be because high school kids are not my thing typically but I gave it a try. And I am so glad I did because I ended up loving that book. This author has a way of pulling you in from the first page, playing with your emotions, tearing you apart, then slowly piecing you back together. I am so glad I took a chance and found her, because she is has been added as a go-to for sure.
I loved this book. Oh Mason, yeah get ready to swoon. This book picks up where book one left off and dives right back into the Carter family drama. This book has it all.. action, suspense, angst, steam, intense moments, and one alpha male who will do anything he has to, to keep the girl he loves safe. This author also threw in a few twists and turns to keep us on the edge of our seats.
This is Denny and Mason's story. Denny moved away with the help of her Grandma after the incident and some life changing news. Now she is back for court. What she doesn't expect is Mason. Mason was devastated when she left. He knew she was the one so he changed his life, making it ready for Denny. It is not going to be easy for these two. They will face a lot of hurdles along the way. Can Mason prove he is changed man? Will Denny forgive him? Get ready for the feels!
Dare I say this is the best book of the series so far? I loved Mason from page one. His tenacity and strength just amazed me. I also liked our sweet Denny girl. She frustrated me at times with her back and forth but I still understood where she was coming from and admired her. I was rooting for these two, hoping they could find a way to work it all out. Their love story was beautifully flawed and absolutely perfect for them. I cannot wait for the next book in this series! It is sure to be epic.
Amazing......Lisa has done it yet again what an outstanding story. Loved how it flowed page after page I've laughed, cried an shouted a few times it gripped me from start to finish an I truly didn't want it to end..can't wait for more from these guys. Keep up the good work your an amazing writer thank you for a wonderful story yet again.
This book was really good, i thought that she would not tell him about the pregnancy until later. But I was presently surprised and that made the book so much better. It didn’t do the thing that another books did and that to me was a bit unexpected.
The book definitely still had it darker moment and had it’s more harder content like murder, rape, bullying and mental abuse so that made me really respect the author. It is something we need to read more about, learn more about so that we can understand and respect people boundaries and people is General. It seems like this whole book series are going to have it one hard storyline.
However difficult it was to read about her when she got kidnapped and Hannah’s tragical ending the book was really amazing. I loved the romance between the two and that she didn’t just take him back in the beginning, she Learned to trust him. This book also made me laugh so much my stomach hurt, the old people in this book is completely crazy but in a really good way. Can’t wait to read the next book!
This is the 2nd book in the Carter Brothers Series and should be read in order.
Denny Smith’s one night with Mason couldn’t have gone worse. Things between the two of them have changed and now Denny is keeping a secret not only from Mason but all her friends too. The thing about secrets are they never stay that way. When Denny’s secret finally comes out will it bring Mason and back together or will it tear them further apart?
I was given this in exchange for an honest review.
Denny is used to being none existent to her parents and only can rely on her brother and best friend Harlow. She’s had to become independent and strong to deal with how her mother treats her. Having her Nan, Harlow, Harlow’s Grandma and the Carter Brothers around kept her from feeling lonely. Denny is a girl who goes after what she wants and she's wanted Mason for years, so when she got the chance to have just one night with him she didn’t have to think twice. She’ll remember that night and his reaction for the rest of her life.
Mason had a hard childhood. His drug addicted mother took off leaving his alcoholic father to raise him and his four other brothers. Things got better when they went to live with their granddad but what happen to him when he lived with his father has long lasting affect that has him running scared when Denny takes root in his life. Mason wants her but feeling like he’s not good for her he does what he thinks is best and pushes her away.
Lisa started this series with a bang when we got to meet all the Carter Brother’s in Malik and Harlow’s story but if you think you know what’s life was life for any of them you’re sadly mistake. Mason is one of the guys you know is a player but there is just something about him you can help but want. Denny fell for his charms but more than that she fell for the man. The attraction between these two is one that no one can resist. They both know they want each other but they are hiding their feelings from each. Every time Denny is around Mason goes on the defensive and you just want to reach into the book and slap him upside the head. Denny is equally frustrating by keeping a secret that will come out and end up hurting both of them even more. The push/pull between these two is what draws you in cause you want them to get together but at the same time you think both of them need to smarten up and see what’s in front of them. Lisa sweeten the story by having a visit from a couple of character from the Forgotten Series. How they interact with Denny and Mason has to be my favorite part aside from the ending which I can’t give away. Each time Lisa releases a new book it becomes my new favourite. With the Carter Brother Series each book gives us a little more insight into the abuse they suffered in childhood, as well as how each character lives can change for the better. Lisa has created an amazing group of character that you can't help but become emotionally invested in, and wishing you could be part of there family. I can truly say that Lisa Helen Gray never disappoints me and she’s an awesome author! I’m impatiently wait for Myles to come out now!
When this book appeared on my kindle, I kinda did a little dance of joy. After the way the first book, Malik ended I'm pretty sure I wasn't the only one!!!! I couldn't wait to get started and find out how things turned out between Mason and Denny, and I couldn't put it down!!!!
Mason, is the second book in the Carter Brother series by Lisa Helen Gray, and follows the story of Mason Carter and Denny Smith, characters we met in the first book Malik. If you haven't read the first book I highly recommend reading it before embarking on Mason, as this book starts shortly after the cliffhanger ending of the last book.
A pregnant Denny is now living with her grandmother, after her parent's kicked her out. She's doing the best that she can on her own, having made the decision not to tell Mason that he's about to be a father. She figured that he wouldn't want to be saddled with a child, and with the baby's mother for that matter. The last place she wanted to return to was the town she'd left behind, but she has little choice when she's summoned to testify in the trial of her best friends attacker. She planned to arrive, testify and leave just as quickly without Mason Carter finding out about her secret. What she didn't count on was the Carter brothers, their granddad, her best friend and her crazy grandmother that would stop at nothing to make her stay. But that particular decision lays with one person - Mason.
When Mason finds out he's going to be a dad, he vows to do anything to persuade Denny to stay, prove to her that she can trust him with her heart, show her that he will do anything possible to protect her and their baby from harms way.
When obstacles are thrown at them from every direction, when insecurities are raised and trust is tested, will Denny and Mason make it through in tact as a family, or will they crumble and fall apart?? Well you're going to have to pick a copy and find out. Promise you wont be disappointed.
This book is an even bigger roller-coaster then Malik. There's tears, so keep some tissues handy. There's anger and frustration - it will leave you wanting to smash some heads together. There's laughter, moments that will leave you laughing out loud. There's love in abudance in all shapes and sizes that will leave you feeling all good inside.
We discover so much about Mason and about how he grew up. Things that left me wanting to wrap my arms around him and give him a huge hug. And we discover so much about Denny to - just because things are painted in a certain way, doesn't mean that everything is always that way. Sometimes the picture is so far off track that you're left blindsided when you find out the truth.
Lisa Helen Gray you've done it again, written another awesome book. So can't wait for the next book in the series, I know its going to be awesome. Plus we get to find out what's happening with the other family members :)
Alright... Mason was on my Sh*t list from the last book, the reasonings these boys have for pushing their girls away are ridiculous.... I mean, I get it, I really do.. the way they grew up with the parents they did, and omg, the things Mason's dad made him do at such a young age, it's a wonder he's a sane person at all let alone sweet as he is... I'm glad all wasn't meet the eye as it was in the last book with him.
Denny comes back to go to trial against Craig Davis whom I knew with everything in me that his brother would be the one causing problems. What I couldn't figure out was, with needing literally any and everything they could use to make sure Davis went to prison, why didn't they call the cops when weird stuff kept happening, like Denny seeing people watching her or getting the flowers with the horrible message on it.. They all just acted like it wasn't a big deal and they could have dusted for finger prints or used it as evidence or hell just had it on record that someone was threatening her. But nope..... they didn't do anything about it.
Another problem I had was the Gran's.....although quite hilarious it's just not believable. Poking holes in condoms to "teach a lesson" and fighting over Granddad Mark to the things that came out of their mouth... now, I get it... I'm gonna be an inappropriate grandma, I already know because i'm a mother of two and I"m quite crazy at times....I suspect it'll get worse as I get older, but these kids are in highschool or just finished and their parents, *not including Denny's mom* are happy their shakin up and living together and all that.... Am I the only one who thinks that wouldn't happen? I mean, granted, they're mature and had I not known they were so young I would have thought at least their early 20's... but I dunno... maybe it's not that uncommon.
Denny's mom too, I can't believe she got off with a warning, I'm pretty sure she's certifiable, she even killed someone and really? Nothin happened to her? And the dad doing years of neglect and ignoring the abuse and he did nothing because he was scared of her/ Made no sense to me.....
Other than that though, I love these brothers, Max cracked me up the way he was with baby Hope, I can't wait for his story but I'm really looking forward to Myles and Kayla's, I know her story is gonna be just as heartbreaking.
Denny has loved Mason from a distance for so long, she thinks he wants nothing to do with her after they spend the night together.Denny has had an awful upbringing, the mother from hell who despises her a father with no backbone who never stands up for her they kick her out because of a secret she has that will change her life forever so she decides to leave with her Nan. A few months later Denny must return home to be a witness she will have to face Mason her secret will come out…how will he react? When Denny arrives back home she is shocked at how Mason and his brothers and her best friend Harlow welcome her with open arms, she feels part of their crazy family…and it feels good.Determined to leave again after her court appearance can Mason prove to her hes not the man she thinks he is and wants to be with her?Mason has always cared for Denny but he let her go not telling her how he really felt this time he wont make that mistake.Slowly Denny finds herself falling all over again for Mason,he cares for her protects her and they become closer than ever but Denny feels Mason is holding back.Things take an ugly turn when the past comes back to torment them all once again, Denny is put in danger can Mason and his brothers find her before hes ever had a chance to tell her how he feels? I loved this book it’s the second in a series I suggest reading Malik first as there is an ongoing story and character cross over.Mason…he totally redeemed himself in my eyes after not being so nice in Maliks book.I totally fell for him and loved how he wanted to care and look out for Denny, hes fiercely protective and drop dead gorgeous!!Denny, she is such a sweet down to earth character shes strong in heart and mind you cant help but love her too.All the brothers also make appearances I just love all their characters and banter some scenes between them are hilarious, thens theres Nan,Grandad,Harlow and other characters that all make this book a brilliant, entertaining read from start to finish cant wait for the next book in the series!!!

I received a ARC from the author in exchange for a honest review. 5 massive star review. I've been waiting for this book like a kid waiting for Christmas ever since I read the first book Malik so when I had the chance to get a ARC I jumped at it. I actually came across the first book in this series by accident when I was looking around for another book this popped up and I completely fell in love with the Carter brothers and I knew this was going to be one of my favorite series' out there at the minute. Mason can be read as a standalone but in my opinion to really enjoy it you need to read the first book too as some parts are connected to the first book. From the first chapter you are gripped to this book and won't want to put it down till you've devoured every last page. Mason and Denny go through their ups and downs, and if you've read the first book you'll know why. But I loved how their relationship developed and I also loved the how the other characters in this book made the story so much more. The right amount of suspense mixed with romance and the hilarious antics of the carter brothers is what made this a 5* read for me. So many twists and turns that I was on the edge of my seat waiting for what happened next. Great book filled with the right amount of suspense and romance mixed with some drama and hot scenes with lots of twists and turns that keeps you gripped throughout. Lisa is one of my favorite authors out there at the minute and I cant wait for the next Carter book.
This book picks off pretty much were 'Malik' left off. So for those who want to read the series you might want to read 'Malik' first. Okay here we go. The book is well written, but with very few grammar errors. The is author is British, so I did ask her to include a dictionary for translation haha!!! The book is written in first person pov from Mason and Denny. I wish there was more of Mason's pov through out the book. I feel this would have portrayed Mason's feelings better. Mason is reformed man whore, who after finding out the love of his life is pregnant and he only wants her back to be a family. Denny lost her virginity to Mason the night they conceived. Being thrown out of her home by her mom, she moves away. I felt the main conflict of the book is Mason's fear of turning into his abusive father, thus the reason why he keeps Denny at arms length. Denny has enough on her plate with her psycho mother, a pending court case and a baby on the way. She just wants to be loved and feel imitacy with Mason again. Another thing I loved about this book is the support Mason gets from his brothers. This book is an Adult book but with characters being 19yrs old and conceiving while teenagers . Am not the biggest fan of that, because of the teenage sex and teen pregnancy. But it fits the book and the series. I love this author and loved all her books.
However, I would like the writer to start toning down these female characters. I'm not for sure if all English women act so over the top and cry ALL THE TIME but these women do. When I say OTT I mean sometimes to the point of flat out bitch mode for no good reason. I realize these are heavy subject matters and some seriously messed up stuff goes on, and I get the are very young characters and the h is pregnant, but I seriously have never met women like this in all my 48 years, and if i did I'm sure it would have just been once because any more time could have brought out a violent side of me. What saves these books are the Carter brothers. They will make swoon, sweat, scream, and laugh your ass off. This one had really less sweating than Malik which was swoony sweat worthy. Mason not so much. I don't no why, but the reason Mason gives for putting off felt contrived and used to push the plot. That being said, if a writer uses silly stupid stuff to push the plot at least make it believable. Anyway.....Myles is next in the batter box. I know it will be very heavy subject matter. I also hope their is more from Myles' POV because he is getting caught up with a girl with some very serious issues, and I would love to follow closely his thought and feelings. The writer has a good male POV, I just wish she would use it more. Overall I love this series so far.
Reviewed by: Akeisha I received an ARC in exchanged for an honest review.
After reading Malik, the first book in the Carter series, I was excited to start , Mason. Mason is the second book in the Carter series and I would recommend reading Malik first since a lot of the characters and events are linked. As always, this was another good book by Lisa and I enjoyed it.
Denny moved away after being kicked out by her parents because of a secret she revealed. When she has to come back for court, she is faced with the one person she doesn't want to see: Mason. I liked Denny, even thought she was headstrong about being on her own and moving back to her Nan's place. Things happened and eventually Denny gives Mason that chance to prove himself to her and he does.
I loved that Mason grow up and is trying to be the best man he can be for both Denny and himself. Mason is definitely an alpha male with his protective ways but you can't help but love the way he loves and provides for Denny.
This book was another good one by Lisa. I laughed a lot in this book because Mason grandmother was crazy and hilarious. This book was full of drama and showed how strong the Carter family was. I hope the next book takes a different direction from the girl always being in distress but whatever the author writes I know it will be good.
The story has laughs, lies, secrets, pain, kidnapping, abuse, and heartbreak.
If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first Malik (Carter Brothers #1)
This is Denny and Mason’s story. Denny thought that after her and Mason we together he would want her always. He tossed her aside after one night. Then every time she saw him after he was with a different woman. After being kicked out of her house she moves out of town. Now months later she has to go back and testify for court. When Mason finds out she is coming to town he decides that there is no way she is leaving. He knows her secrets and is determined to have her. Can he prove that he wanted her even when he pushed her away? Can he keep her safe when danger comes for her? Will he figure out who is after her before he loses her forever?
I loved these characters and also the side characters. You get to know a little about each brother in this story so I can’t wait for the other brother’s stories. I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next story from this author.
I enjoyed book 1 of this series, and loved meeting all the new characters. And there are a lot of characters. This book features the continuing story of Mason and Denny, who we met in book 1 and know a little about.
As well as finding out more about this couple, we also meet the characters we fell in love with in book 1. I loved being able to follow a new part of this family story, as well as meeting old characters and seeing more of their story.
Denny is a confused young girl. As such, she does what she believes is for the best. She runs away. Everyone, she believes, has turned their backs on her, and she can see no other way forward.
But by leaving she kickstarts a chain of events which will change her life forever.
The storyline pretty much goes how I thought it would, but with a few unexpected twists in the latter part.
There are a number of grammar issues, and spelling errors, throughout which did spoil the experience a little for me. But this isn't a major thing, and can be easily fixed in the future.
All in all a good continuation of the story, and I can't wait to read more about the brothers and their extended family.
I LOVED IT!! Mason and Denny's story was so bittersweet. Two people completely in love and both afraid to admit it. It was so heartwarming watching their feelings grow stronger & stronger. I laughed and I cried really hard. Mason's brothers are amazing the way they all support each other and stand by and protect each other. Max is hilarious and kept me laughing throughout the entire story. He sounds like a big kid. They're all so close and loving. Poor Denny and her horny pregnancy hormones. Lol. She should've just came out and told Mason that a womans sex drive sky rockets when she's pregnant and showed him what she wanted, no needed. Lol. Since the baby was born, the brothers all fight over her especially Max and Myles. Lol. It was adorable the way in a house full of big strong men a tiny little girl had them wrapped around her finger instantly. I HIGHLY recommend this series to everyone. It did get kind of annoying how the author kept using British slang that I didn't know what it meant. What is grasser? What does pinch mean and I know it wasn't what pinch is in America? I figured out nappie is a diaper and chippies are french fries. I can't wait for Myles and Kayla's story.
Another sweet hit from Lisa Helen Gray!!! 1. I love seeing Mason work so hard to show Denny how he really does truly love/care for her! I can't imagine how hard it is to com pate believing that your biological DNA is bad and you can't be a good husband/father etc. Seeing Mason and the other Carter brothers try to move past their bad life to hope for a future full of good! 2. Denny is AMAZING!!! Super strong heroine who not only is working through having her heart broken, learning she is pregnant, being kicked out of her home and now having to testify against someone who is evil and having others who are threatening her. Man she fights back hard and its awesome! 3. Her Nan (and Harlow's Nan) are Kick a** - I want to be like them when I grow up! 4. The book is super intense and always keeps you guessing and interested in the story line! 5. Great read and this series is definitely on its way to becoming one of my favorite new series!!!!
